Yandex Browser - is it really as good as people say it is? Test if I know Yandex browser well. New Yandex browser - pros and cons

Greetings to all, dear readers of the blog site! Among all the variety of browsers, the undoubted leader is Google Chrome. This fact is confirmed by the statistics of its use in comparison with other products, both around the world and here in Russia. The share of this browser in Russia is 55%, followed by Yandex Browser - 21%.

What is better Yandex browser or google chrome? It would seem that the answer is obvious, but do not rush to conclusions. I suppose that the statistics are somewhat "cheated" due to the fact that Chrome is the standard browser on all android devices, and this is the majority of smartphones in the world. But the browser from Yandex, just like the other popular Opera browser - is not installed on any device by default, this must be done manually.

To be honest, at first I was ironic about the browser from Yandex, but after a detailed study I realized that this is a very convenient browser. And whether this is really so, you can decide for yourself by reading this article to the end.

The first stable version of the American browser Google Chrome appeared at the end of 2008. It was a real alternative to the two most popular browsers at that time - Mozilla Firefox and Opera. I clearly remember this time, just that year the Internet was connected at my house. The newfangled browser used a fundamentally different "engine" for processing Internet pages, due to which the loading of sites took less time. Chrome quickly gained popularity among users.

Here is such a variety of browsers using one "WebKit" engine

After the apparent success of Google, other large companies decided that they would have their own browsers with blackjack and all that it implies, which will be based on the same engine as Chrome. And already in 2012, Yandex, the search engine of which is used by the most users in Russia, released a stable version of the so-called “Yandex Browser”. As of March 2018, the Yandex browser is devoid of any bugs and shortcomings that users pointed out at the very beginning, as soon as it was released.

When you write an article (as it is now), you have to keep open several dozen different tabs with information, and with this mode of operation, not every browser will remain as "nimble" as when working with one or two tabs. Before switching to Yandex browser, I used Firefox as my main browser for a long time. And also Opera on the Chrome engine and Iron Browser (consider the same Chrome, only with tracking protection).

And, although the latest versions of Firefox have completely redesigned the engine and included support for multiprocessing (for each open tab - its own process in the system), when using it, you still feel a kind of "slowdown", especially if you install a dozen extensions. In addition, after switching to an improved engine, Mozilla stopped working with old extensions, which have no modern analogues. I can say that Mazila is a good browser, but for me personally, Yandex Browser is better.

Appearance

Outwardly, Yandex Browser looks simple, like Google Chrome, however, there are fundamental differences. By default, the browser interface is displayed in standard light gray colors. But, as soon as you scroll the page to the beginning of any picture or video, the browser color changes as if you are looking at them through glass with a blur effect. It looks very cool live. The interface does not get bored over time, which is probably why there are no other themes provided here.

And this is what the browser will look like if you scroll down a bit:

The main page of the browser greets the user with an original scoreboard that contains visual bookmarks with a message counter. For example, you can place the VKontakte site there and you no longer need to go to the site itself to see the number of unread messages. You can do the same with mailboxes. This makes browsing the Internet more convenient.... The new Opera has something similar, but I don't like the pale interface, which makes the tabs difficult to read.

The Yandex browser start page is easy to diversify with the help of an extensive background gallery, and you can upload your own images. There are also animated backgrounds (video), their number is not so large (23), there you will find: sea, mountains, forests, meadows, waterfalls and even a city. Each of these landscapes is unique and pleasing to the eye. And as for static backgrounds, I generally keep quiet, their number just rolls over. You can set up auto changing backgrounds every day.

Work speed

Yandex browser starts no faster than Google Chrome - in a little over 1 second. The loading speed of the sites is also the same. However, in favor of Yandex browser is the fact that it provides a "turbo" mode. This mode allows you to work comfortably with a slow Internet connection, thanks to the compression of pictures and videos. Presumably, this "feature" is borrowed from the old versions of the Opera browser.

RAM consumption

When choosing a browser for many, this parameter is key. This is especially true for those who have an old or not too powerful PC. This also applies to me, because my computer uses an outdated type of memory: DDR2, in addition, the motherboard also supports only 4 GB of RAM in total. Here Yandex browser shows itself from the good side, with 12 open tabs and 3 installed extensions - the consumption of RAM is 880 MB. Google Chrome eats 902 MB.

Turbo mode

As already mentioned, turbo mode allows you to compress traffic to speed up page loading. This mode will be mega useful for those who access the Internet from a smartphone, because in addition to the desktop version of the browser, there is also a mobile version. Thus, you will save mobile traffic, and therefore money. Turning on this mode is simple: just click on the lock-shaped icon and select the appropriate item. You do not need to restart your browser.

It works like this: traffic passes through Yandex servers and is compressed at the same time. Websites using the HTTPS protocol are ignored in this case, they will be immediately displayed in the browser without going through the Yandex servers. I think this is for safety. In Google Chrome and Opera, there are no such modes initially, so the Yandex browser turned out to be better in this regard. Also, turbo mode will automatically turn on when the speed drops below 128 Kbps.

Privacy and security

Let's start with security. Google and Yandex browsers have their own unique protection tools. Each company has its own database of dangerous sites, when you go to which a warning appears in the browser window. Also, all downloaded files are checked for safety. In general, it is clear that Yandex took the issue of security very seriously.

There is something here that is not in Google Chrome. We are talking about a unique tool called "Protect", which includes a whole arsenal of active protection functions. This is literally the first of its kind integrated security system built into the browser. It includes:

  • Internet connection protection;
  • Online payment protection;
  • Protection from infected sites and programs;
  • Protection from shocking ads;
  • Wi-Fi connection protection.

When making online payments, the browser automatically switches to enhanced security mode: the interface turns dark, and the inscription “secure mode” appears in the upper right corner. Also, the browser will warn you if you go to any dangerous site and try to enter your bank card number.

But that's not all. It happens - you put some kind of add-on, seemingly verified, from the official repository. Then from this add-on problems begin: incomprehensible redirects (redirects) to dangerous sites, annoying advertising. Yandex browser in this case simply will not let you install it. This warning will pop up if the extension threatens security:

There is no way to get around this limitation. We'll have to look for another add-on, but that's for the best. Here "refresh" is just a page reload.

But with privacy, not everything is so smooth. Privacy is how sensitive different large companies are to your personal information.... First of all, these are the companies that make these browsers. It has long been known that Google Chrome is a "vacuum cleaner" that collects a lot of data about the user: location, interests and much more. This data "big brother" sells including advertising companies, so that they bombed you with targeted (selected for you) advertising.

So Yandex in this regard is unlikely to be much better. You don't think such large corporations make browsers out of pure enthusiasm, do you? Although, if we take into account the late appearance of the Yandex browser, perhaps the main idea of its creation was not spying on the user, but an attempt to catch up and overtake the closest competitor. Maybe so. In any case, if you want no one to follow you for sure, I can recommend the Iron browser or the Tor browser. In the latter, privacy is elevated to an absolute, but this also creates inconveniences.

My settings

Yandex browser or the more popular Google chrome - the difference is minimal when it comes to settings. This is not surprising, because the engine is the same. But, as for me, in the first browser, the settings are easier to read: here the font and background are better matched. I played around a bit with the settings, while disabling all the functions that were useless to me: zen feed, background applications, sending browser usage statistics, mouse gestures, reading mode. I did not touch the "security" tab ().

About add-ons

Unlike Google chrome, Yandex browser does not have its own extension directory. Instead, it uses the Opera browser repository. The peculiarity of the Russian browser is that it is "omnivorous" in terms of extensions. You can easily install add-ons from the Google chrome store, but other browsers cannot do this. The same Opera refuses to install extensions from the Google catalog. And the domestic browser will also check these extensions for viruses, and for free. All this makes Yandex one of the best browsers.

5 reasons for my switch to Yandex browser

I will try to summarize everything that was said earlier, along the way highlighting some additional features of the program, which I did not talk about. There are at least 5 key points due to which I switched to the constant use of a domestic browser:

  1. More convenient work with text.
  2. Beautiful and minimalistic design that does not irritate the eyes, while the information is easy to read. The effect of transparency, as in some Windows 10 applications.
  3. Excellent security. Files that you download are scanned using Yandex's own anti-virus algorithms.
  4. Quick. Compared to Google chrome, the difference in speed is minimal (almost none). But Yandex is still faster than the new Firefox. There is a "turbo" mode.
  5. Support for extensions from 2 largest directories: Opera and Google. Extensions are scanned for viruses.

For users who often work with text, there is one small but useful feature to their liking: an auxiliary panel when selecting text. This works like this: you select any text on the page, after which two buttons "pop up" - "find in Yandex" and "copy to clipboard".

If you highlight a word in a foreign language, its translation will be offered. No more right-clicking and choosing copy. If the page is in a foreign language, the translation of the entire page will be offered with the help of a Yandex translator (analogous to "google translate").

And there is also a well-organized search by words, which is invoked using the key combination "Ctrl + F". The text will highlight all words that include a set of characters that you entered in the line. If you check the box, only exact matches of the typed word will be highlighted.

After a detailed study of all these facts, I no longer had to choose between browsers from Yandex and Google for a long time to answer the question - which browser is better. Good luck to you!

I was asked this question many times, and I finally decided to write an answer, which then you can poke everyone. Usually, I throw all these people a link to the gorgeous yabrowser.com (from which, by the way, I took the background image). But, as practice shows, no one is interested in what is written there, but you need to hear the answer from me.

I use Yandex Browser every day. For some reason, this evokes a lot of emotions in everyone: "How is it, tyzhpogromist, how can you use some kind of hand-made article from Yandex ?!" ... And all of these immediately look sideways at you, as if you tucked your jeans. But the law is not prohibited, I use the browser I want (and also put it to everyone). And that's why.

Gestures

One of the most important features of J. Browser for me is support for gestures with a mouse, or, in my case, a touchpad. With gestures, you can walk back and forth through history, reload, open, reopen and close tabs. All this is an ordinary programmer (and sometimes an unusual user) makes all known combinations of the Alt button with arrows or the Control button with letters. However, when you scroll the page, then in order to close it or reload it, or go back, you do not really want to reach for some buttons there.

Macos users probably find it funny to read this, but Windows support for gestures on the touchpad is extremely bad, and the fact that this is implemented specifically in the browser (which means you don't need to fuck with the drivers for the touchpad, etc.) is insanely cool and convenient. In general, this was the reason for my transition to this browser.

"Back"

Unlike everyone else, the guys at Yandex use their own browser, and they know that the "Back" button is an important thing that should always go back. Therefore, if someone throws something to me in Skype, or I open a link from the mail, then I do not need to look for the window in which I was before. I just need to press the "Back" button (or use a gesture!), And it will open itself.

Moreover. There is another important feature that others lack. If I open a link in a new tab (Control + click), then she knows where it was opened from, and therefore you can click on "Back" in it and get access to the page from which I opened it. If you actively use Google, then you understand why this is useful.

Add-ons

The browser comes with a bundle of add-ons that really make sense. This is not just a set of advertising pieces that the company obliges you to use because they were brought in. For example, here is a list of the default add-ons that I use:

  • FriGate- smart proxy for all sorts of rutrackers and other lurks;
  • Turbo- automatic compression of traffic, if the speed is very low (from the mobile Internet, for example);
  • Synchronization and backup- everything is clear here;
  • Pocket- to postpone articles for later;
  • Yandex.Market Advisor- an extension that saved me a hundred times when some M.Video wanted to sell me a product 15-20% more expensive than it is in other stores;
  • Music control panel- the coolest add-on that controls all musical activity (even more about it below);
  • Anti-shock, Blocking flash banners and videos- in addition to my μBlock and Ghostery.

In addition, I have a dozen more, however, when I set up someone's browser, all I have to do is download μBlock, because the rest is already in the browser.

Music control panel

A mega-cool addition from Yandex, which they, apparently, initially sawed only for their service Ya.Muzyka, and then expanded in general to everything they could get to. Thus, it can be used to control the most famous sound sources in your browser. For example, for me it now looks like this:

As you can see, I can turn on Ya Radio from here, and the music from VK will be automatically paused. Moreover, I can go back and forth through the playlist in all of these services. And, most importantly to me, I can do this at the level of global keyboard shortcuts. Yes, when I play KSS once every hundred years, this is how I manage music :)

Naturally, the app is smart, and if you open a YouTube video, it pauses the current audio source and all. In general, for this, just a giant respect to Yandexoids. It's even cooler than gestures. Switch, stop / start, like a track without switching the code editor - you can kill for that. The extension is rumored to be found in the Chrome app store :)

Files

It's very short here: I use the browser as an electronic reader (epub and fb2) and don't regret it. And at the same time, I can open documents, spreadsheet files, presentations and all this here. It's often faster than opening Microsoft office products, especially when you just need to take a look.

Other nishtyaks

Too many goodies, so just a list about the rest:

  • built-in translator that can translate part of the page, and not all at once;
  • if necessary, page search takes into account the morphology, that is, by entering "window", you can find both "at the window" and "in front of the window";
  • on popular sites, links to important sections appear in the search bar (for example, "Payment and delivery" in stores - the same fire);
  • warnings about the use of open WiFi and automatic activation of encryption for it (useful for your relatives, you are smart, I remember);
  • warnings about fraudulent sites, about pages that will subscribe you to some sms-mailings, meticulous (in a good way) safe mode for online banking (and this is for relatives, of course).

The most important thing is all Chromium. That is, in Ya Browser I have all the same development tools that are in Chrome. I have never come across bugs specifically in J. Browser, because this, in principle, cannot be. Although I have heard legends about them, and not a little. But so far none have been confirmed.

Honesty

This is perhaps what most IT companies in Russia lack. Honesty with the user. Yandex has it. If you are not in the know, then on any page of Yandex search results, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Google" link, for example. And that will open up the Google SERP for you for your request.

The same is here. Yandex is not Mail. Their browser is honestly installed, honestly configured, honestly uninstalled (burn in hell, Amigo!). And, which may seem surprising to someone, it is not necessary to use Yandex in it. In general, no one at the sight of my browser understands what it is, because the "Me" button is disabled in the settings, and the default search is in Google.

Responsiveness

I love Yandex support. They are cool. For all the time of my use of their services, I have sent more than a hundred letters to it for a long time. And they answer each of them, remind about each of them. With my participation, 3-4 small bugs in the browser were closed, I was one of those who asked to finish the music control so that it would work in the new VK interface, I sent them an uncountable number of emails about bugs in Ya. Mail. And all my problems were always solved. This is really cool.

Interface

The only thing I don't like is the new Yandex Browser interface. Here he did not take root with me and that's it. It doesn't look very good on my screen, but fortunately, you can still use the classic version. I firmly believe that they will not take it away from me, because sometimes it even seems to me that it works faster, and speed is what is especially important in work.

Other than that, I'm not sure your browser is as cool as mine.

Yandex.Browser, released in 2012, took the second place in the Russian Internet in just a few years, if we consider only desktop users, and is second only to Google Chrome. If we take into account the users of mobile devices, the success of Yandex's browser will not be so impressive: it is bypassed by Mobile Safari and Android Browser, but still more than 9% of Runet users prefer it. How did the browser, which appeared relatively recently on the market, conquer the hearts of Russians and residents of the neighboring countries? And does it have any disadvantages?

You can start surfing the web on your computer, continue on your tablet, then switch to your smartphone.

Integration with Yandex services

The highlight of Yandex Browser is integration with Yandex services, which are extremely popular in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet. Search engine, mail, storage of files on Yandex.Disk, online translation - everything is connected into a single system, and this is very convenient for those who use yandex.ru services. All services are located on the dashboard, and one click is enough to access the desired service. If necessary, you can use add-ons such as "Yandex.Traffic" or "Yandex.Weather".

Synchronization with other devices

Scoreboard

When you open a new tab in Yandex.Browser, a board appears on it - a list of the most frequently visited pages presented in the form of tiles. The list can be edited, but the number of tiles cannot be more than twenty. The scoreboard will certainly interest people who need to visit certain sites on a regular basis, especially since some web pages can play additional information: in mail, this is the number of unread letters, in Yandex.Traffic jams, it is the level of traffic jams.

In each new tab, the browser offers a list of the most frequently visited pages.

"Smart line"

The developers of Yandex Browser called the address bar "Smart Line", because it can do a lot that is not available to other similar programs. So, if you confused the keyboard layout and typed the site address in the wrong alphabet, the browser will correct you. For popular sites, the display of the address when typing the name works: type the word "Wikipedia", and the browser will immediately display "ru.wikipedia.org".

Speed

Experts often pay attention to the fact that in virtual tests Yandex.Browser is inferior in speed to competitors: Google Chrome, Firefox and other programs for accessing the Internet. He does not search so quickly, does not open sites so quickly, not so fast ... Stop! The vast majority of users will not notice this difference anyway; only high-precision software tools track differences in speed. Therefore, in reality, there is no reason to consider the solution from "Yandex" as some kind of inhibitory browser.

More speed

By the way, if you have a slow Internet connection, you can increase the speed of work, for this, the "Turbo" mode is provided. In this mode, videos, images and other media content are processed and compressed so that the site on which they are located opens faster and traffic is spent more economically.

Turbo mode speeds up the loading of pages, pictures and videos.

Advanced security

Yandex Browser is concerned about user safety. Each page is checked for malicious code, and if any problems are identified, access is blocked. But what if you still need to visit a blocked web page? It is enough to select the "Safe copy" option, and the browser will open the page without dangerous elements.

Yandex Browser checks each downloaded file for viruses, protects against phishing, warning the user that he is entering a password on an unknown page, informs about paid mobile subscriptions and does not allow subscribing to a paid service without confirmation, blocks pages suspected of SMS fraud.

The browser warns users about dangerous sites.

Thanks to all of the above, even for an inexperienced and inattentive user, the risk of infecting his computer with a virus or transferring money to fraudsters is significantly reduced.

Does Yandex Browser have any drawbacks?

There are no ideal programs, and Yandex Browser, of course, has its drawbacks.

Firstly, if you do not use Yandex services, the program will be just another good browser for you.

Secondly, you can often hear complaints about the work of an online translator. However, no one has yet come up with an ideal online translator, and Google Translate also sometimes makes mistakes.

In 2015, Yandex browser was installed by 6.29% of Runet users, and in 2017 this share was 15.41%. (OpenStat)

At the same time, the famous Google Chrome has also been increasing its share all this time (now 56% in Runet), but at the expense of other browsers, not Yandex.

Why do people choose Yandex browser and sometimes even think that it is better than Google Chrome? Or is Yandex just "forcing" users to switch to it?

In this article, we will look at the reviews and opinions, technical characteristics, and I will express my personal opinion about this "browser".

Yandex browser initially used the Blink engine, on the basis of which many other browsers work, including Chrome and Opera after version 15.

So, in fact, Yandex Browser is not that much different from others in terms of functionality, when you install it, you in many ways do not even feel that something has changed, everything will be immediately intuitive in terms of the interface.

However, some things will be new to you, so today I first installed Yandex Browser (I have been using Google Chrome for many years, after Opera) and decided to look at it as a new user. Well, I also read a lot of reviews and comparisons of it with Google Chrome, which we will also talk about.

There is one more reason to install a browser from Yandex, any webmaster must sometimes check how his site looks and works on other devices, as well as how it works and looks on other browsers. If there is a share of Janedx Browser, then some people may see some other site in general in case of some errors and sometimes it is worth correcting something taking into account other systems.

Therefore, for a webmaster, it is worth installing a Yandex browser at least to see how their website works in it.

Search engine battle

We'll start with the obvious. Search engines (Google / Yandex) impose their products on users, including browsers. This is so obvious that I think it is useless to try to avoid this moment and keep it quiet.

Both search engines do this in an extremely disgusting way.

When you are in Chrome and if you go to Yandex, they will constantly tell you to make Yandex the main search, as well as offer to install the Yandex browser. But Google does the same, for example, when you go to the Google translator (translate.google), the same habits begin there too - install our products.

Few of the users will like it, but no one has canceled the war between the search engines of Yandex and Google for Runet, browsers in this war are the most important weapon. Whoever has a browser has a user in the search engine.

January 2010, Yandex's share of 47.6% in search. Google - 39.74% ()

January 2017, Yandex's share of 47.75% in search. Google - 46.71%

Yandex holds positions, but Google is winning confidently by squeezing out a share, although more due to other little-known search engines (Mail.ru, Rambler, Bing).

Google wins almost all over the world, and in general, national search engines are far from everywhere, but only in a few countries, but Google wins even there.

Perhaps this is due to the invariable ease of Google and the minimalist design, perhaps Yandex went somewhere in the wrong place, having placed many of its services and other elements in the search, but my personal opinion, in terms of the quality of search in Russian, Yandex is at least as good as Google. and sometimes even surpasses.

Yandex also plays an important role for a webmaster or copywriter.

Most people check the frequency of queries by wordstat.yandex.ru, as a result, the top is checked by Yandex.

If you make an article well for Yandex, you can be sure that it will fit well under Google, it's just that links are more important in Google, and PF in Yandex.

Yandex Browser or Google Chrome: which one is better?

There is quite good comparison of Yandex and Google browsers, you can read the link, there is exactly what the technical points were compared.

Here I will give only some excerpts and theses:

  • Browser launch speed is almost the same;
  • Chrome's page loading speed is slightly faster;
  • The use of RAM is practically the same;
  • Browser settings are similar, but Yandex has even a little more;
  • Customization - Yandex Browser is slightly stronger;
  • Support for add-ons, Chrome has a little better, but Yandex has built-in ones and some more from Opera;
  • Privacy - both browsers are likely collecting your personal data;
  • User protection - Yandex Browser is slightly better;
  • Browser Design - Yandex Browser is more customizable.

As you can see, Yandex Browser is not so bad in many ways, but in general, browsers are very similar to each other.

Personal impressions

Today I first installed Yandex Browser after many years in Chrome and will tell you about my personal impressions. In general, they are positively neutral.

In general, almost everything in the browser is customizable and it's nice.

But immediately and a jamb, I can not find my blog in the feed, although I was added there and it would seem, well, who needs to recommend a blog site through Zen in the first place, if not me? But no, for some reason he is not there, although before I noticed him in the tape.

This is not quite the topic, but everything is exactly strange and bad. Although there were 160 visitors from there in a month, the quality of traffic is low, but it will go.

Visually, Yandex Browser is quite itself

I don’t like the Yandex home page, just as I don’t like the fact that they embed the news feed everywhere, but this is how Mail.Ru does it. and google on the phone. Now I have some kind of constant spam on my phone with news from Google / Android.

The ad block for Yandex browser is built-in and is already there, but Google is only planning to build it into its browser.

Site view in Yandex Browser

Compare with Google Chrome:

Site view in Google Chrome

The button "go to Yandex search" is disabled if you want.

Well, it is clear that if you search through the address bar, different browsers will search in their search, this is kind of obvious.

Also, plus one more thing, Yandex Browser will not annoy people if there is no HTTPS on the site, but Chrome can annoy. Google is forcing everyone to replace SSL.

All browsers are now free, the paid version of Yandex Browser does not exist, but there is only a free version.

What else? Yandex smart search works pretty cool, which complements the query for you. Yes, even sometimes better than Google, according to my feelings. This is if you type into Yandex Browser through the address bar.

Personally, I have had a serious problem with Chrome for a long time, namely, the consumption of RAM. The computer is not the newest and even several browser tabs are already eating memory like hippos. Unfortunately, Yandex Browser is waiting the same way, as this is the same engine.

Now, if Yandex Browser had somehow solved this problem, it would have been a serious competitive advantage, but with the same engine as for Chrome, this cannot be done, and if they write on their own, it will probably work slower.

Here are some of my general impressions, in general, I did not notice the key and root differences, all the different ones are small in my opinion. A curious thing is mouse control, you can hold down the right button and do some actions, it is convenient.

Here are a few more arguments purely for Yandex Browser, here I will copy the answer of one person who understands this:

  • Protection from wap-click. These are paid services that are connected simply by clicking on the "Watch" or "Download" button https://habrahabr.ru/company/yandex/blog/273385/
  • Built-in DNScrypt technology. Encrypts requests to the DNS server, and you can choose a third-party server for this, and not your provider. https://habrahabr.ru/company/yandex/blog/280380/
  • Yandex Browser is the only browser for Android that supports Chrome extensions. Not all, of course, but many work. https://habrahabr.ru/company/yandex/blog/309014/
  • When connected to open Wi-Fi points, it encrypts HTTP traffic. Useful from shkolota with sniffers, bad admins and fake points. https://habrahabr.ru/company/yandex/blog/267013/
  • The page search takes into account the morphology of the Russian language. Useful when you know what you want to find, but don't remember the exact form of a word. https://habrahabr.ru/company/yandex/blog/198866/
  • Omnibox normally understands the wrong layout and is generally very different from its counterpart in Chromium. Comparison: https://yandex.ru/blog/company/80546
  • Much more settings for tabs than in Chromium: https://browser.yandex.ru/blog/vkladki-v-yandeks-brauzere
  • The Android version is able to transfer its cache to an SD card.
  • Extensions: Simultaneous support for both Chrome Web Store and Opera Addons. Convenient if the extension is removed from one directory.
  • Oh yes, I also use mouse gestures.

When I saw the new Yandex Browser for the first time, I decided that finally a normal good browser came to my review. But after working with him for a while, I identified several drawbacks.

In general, I would like to praise the developers. The browser is good. Previously, Yandex offered everyone its copy of Chrome, which, apart from widgets from Yandex, contained nothing else. But then they took up their minds and made a normal browser, but they still took Chromium as a basis.

Pros of the browser:

It is as minimalistic as any other Chromium-based browser.
- It has advanced functionality and settings that are not available in Chrome from Google.
- It's simple. Those. really simple. Even the settings and options are arranged so that a beginner can figure them out.
- Turbo mode. Shrinks pages, allowing them to load faster.
- Convenient bookmarks.
- Smart line. The address bar gives hints. If you do not remember the exact domain of the site or its name, then a smart line will help you find the site.
- Quick links. But this function is not really needed.
- Built-in protection, thanks to the Kaspersky Lab. In fact, the built-in antivirus protection of the browser allows you to avoid viruses. Those. the principle is the same as that of Comodo Dragon.
- Translation of the page into any of the 9 built-in languages.
- There is a version for MacOS.
- All extensions from Chrome are suitable for the browser.

Thus, Yandex.Browser combines the speed of Chrome, and additional features make Yandex's browser quite functional and useful. This browser can be safely used instead of Internet Explorer or Chrome. The browser is really good and stable. What else can you expect from a large corporation :)

But there are also disadvantages:
- It is installed via the Internet. Those. you only download the client. This is not always convenient.
- Yandex Browser, like Chrome, likes to send anonymous data. This is more necessary for statistics, but still unpleasant.
- The settings are still too simplified. Some users like fine-tuning, but this will not work with Yandex Browser.
- If you close the browser and then start it, it will restore all open tabs and sites in the previous session. Sometimes it pisses me off, but you can turn it off in the settings.
- I don't know why, but each tab creates a new process in the task manager! This is terribly unnerving, clogs up the task manager and loads the system.

Actually, there are not so many minuses. Plus, all browsers have downsides. And you can put up with the minuses of Yandex Browser, since these are rather shortcomings than minuses.

After the next update of the browser in February 2014, additional functions appeared in it:

Now the browser has a pop-up blocker, screen dimming while watching a video, product search and other very useful functions,

The new browser now warns of fraudulent sites with hard-to-miss big letters.

All these add-ons are already built-in, they do not need to be found and additionally installed. But there is a function to turn add-ons on and off.

conclusions

The browser is very good. But still, I would like more opportunities in more fine tuning. Plus, sending data anonymously develops schizophrenia in some :)

The browser is simple, stable, has a laconic and beautiful interface. Actually, there is nothing more to say. It's boring to talk about good browsers :) After all, everyone loves to scold bad browsers, there are even whole forums of hatred for browsers.

Yandex Browser is a good browser. If you are still a fan of using Yandex services, then this browser is for you! Especially suitable for beginners and just people who do not want to dig into the settings.
