Files, drivers and libraries

Before you start looking for your problem, you need to update your video card driver to the latest version:

A prerequisite for the successful functioning of any game is the availability of the latest drivers for all devices in the system. Download the utility Driver Updater to easily and quickly download the latest drivers and install them with one click:

  • download Driver Updater and run the program;
  • scan the system (usually it takes no more than five minutes);
  • Update outdated drivers with one click.
It is possible that you will need to update supporting software such as DirectX, Microsoft .NET Framework, and Microsoft Visual C++: Helper DLLs:

If you have done all this and the problem remains, you can look for it in the list below.

ELEX slows down, lags, freezes, low FPS? Solution

Since the game is quite large in terms of the open world, it requires a lot of free resources on your computer. Close all external programs to make it easier for the system to process game data. Try changing graphics settings. Be sure to update your graphics card driver, as on average this can add about 20% to performance.

ELEX crashes to desktop? Solution

Typically, crashes can happen in areas of the game where there is a lot of action going on. This happens due to insufficient RAM. Disable everything that may be taking up RAM: antivirus, browser, downloads, players, etc. Try lowering your graphics settings. Also be sure to turn on automatic updates on Steam. Usually developers release new patches that solve such problems.

ELEX won't start? Solution

If after installation you double-click on the game shortcut, but nothing happens, first try running the game from the root folder as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the shortcut and select the appropriate menu. If the game window appears in the taskbar, but the product still does not open, wait a while. Sometimes the game may take about 1-2 minutes to start. If nothing happens, check to see if your antivirus deleted one of the game files during installation. Also check the integrity of the cache on Steam. If one of the game files has been deleted, checking the cache will restore it. Don't forget to close your antivirus first or add the game to the exclusion list.

ELEX has a black screen? Solution

In 90% of cases, the black screen occurs due to the old version of the drivers, so be sure to update them. How to do this is indicated at the beginning of the article. After installing the driver, restart your computer and re-launch the game. If you only see a black screen again, minimize the game to windowed mode using the Alt+Enter keys, and then return everything as it was. If nothing happens, check that your video card is working using other games as an example. In addition, a black screen often occurs on older dual-core processors without multi-threading. In this case, only replacing the hardware can solve the problem.

ELEX not installing? Solution

To reduce the risk of problems with the game, completely close your antivirus before installing. Prepare the required amount of free memory on your hard drive (more than 35 GB). Specify an installation path that does not contain Cyrillic. After that, feel free to start the installation. If the scale freezes, don't panic, sometimes the game can take more than one hour to install. In addition, check your Internet connection; perhaps due to a poor connection, the game files are loading too slowly, or have stopped loading altogether.

Is there a DLL error in ELEX? Solution

A very common problem is a DLL error that points us to a missing file to run the game. Fortunately, the problem is easy to solve. Download, then open the program and start searching for the missing file. When the program finishes searching, it will automatically download the DLL file and install it in the correct location. After this, you can safely launch the game after restarting your computer.

Is there no Russian language in ELEX? Solution

If you want to enjoy Russian voice acting in ELEX, we hasten to disappoint you; only the text in the game is localized: the interface and subtitles. However, if your text is not translated into Russian, first try going through the game settings. If it’s not there either, go to the Steam library and try changing the language through this service. Otherwise, reinstall the game.

Does ELEX have sound problems? Solution

Sometimes you can hear various stutters in the game. Don't worry, this is a bug that can be resolved by simply restarting the game. If the problem persists, update your video card and audio card drivers. If this does not help, and in other games the sound is fine, make sure that everything is set correctly in the game settings. If the sound was normal before and the problems started after a certain point, load your earlier save (when there was no problem). The bug should disappear.

Unfortunately, like the previous creations of the Piranha Bytes studio, the Elex role-playing project suffers from many software problems that often do not allow players to easily complete this RPG. These include flickering textures and missing characters. The worst thing about this bug is that it does not disappear either when you reboot or when you start a new game, so many people simply give up. However, even to this misfortune there was a solution, and it was quite simple and you will learn about it below.

Textures are flashing and the hero model is missing in Elex - how to fix it

So, if you experience the bug shown in the screenshots above, we advise you to do the following:

  1. Go to the game menu and look at the graphics settings.
  2. Next, set the default options.
  3. You can continue playing, meaning you don't even have to restart Elex.

How to fix flashing water error

In some cases, only water begins to flash, and with a very unpleasant acidic color. So far, players have found only a temporary fix for this bug, associated with the complete removal of water textures. To do this you need to do the following:

  1. Open the game folder.
  2. Next, find the ini folder located in data.
  3. Then open the ConfigDefault.xml and ConfigDefaultNew.xml files using Notepad.
  4. Find the inscription “OceanMaterial=” (without quotes) using the Crtl+F combination.
  5. Remove [WT_Ocean_1._xmat] from the line.
  6. As a result, the line will look like this: [OceanMaterial="" ].
  7. Launch the game and enjoy the blinking disappearing.

However, playing without water is still not very pleasant, so we advise you to wait for patches.

Gaming publications did not like ELEX too much: the new game Piranha Bytes was criticized for problems with optimization, poor-quality animation, unsympathetic dialogues and a slowly unraveling story. Could these problems scare away loyal Piranha fans from ELEX? Let's go to Steam.

No, fans won't be embarrassed by such things. Previous games by Piranha Bytes were also far from ideal, and yet they had a magical “something” that created a special atmosphere and drew you into any world - be it Gothic or Risen. Is there something similar in ELEX? It seems so.

Plot: it exists (but that’s not the main thing)

ELEX is designed to take many hours to complete, and it’s still difficult to say anything really specific about the plot. In any case, the beginning of the game is trivial and in some ways reminiscent of the very first Gothic: the hero, against his will, ends up in some unpleasant place, gets hit on the head and loses the contents of his pockets.

Ahead of the protagonist is a search for new friends and meetings with old acquaintances, climbing the social ladder and joining one of the factions. Doesn't remind you of anything?

The game is worth the money. The graphics may not be very good, but the world around us is magnificent. The interface is not the best, it could have been better. Very reminiscent of Gothic 2, especially the paladin Lothar who says You’re not even a citizen, and in Elex they say you’re not even a farmer))). typical fan review

Graphics: slightly outdated (but that's not the main thing)

The journalists were not lying: ELEX really has problems with animation. The faces of some characters resemble the faces of plastic dolls (and are animated in approximately the same way), combat animations are made in the traditional Piranha Bytes “wooden” style.

The game world looks good overall, but you shouldn’t expect a breakthrough picture from ELEX. The signs of a small budget are obvious: a couple of tens of meters from high-quality textures a player can expect a soapy something that somehow got past the quality control department.

I jumped into the Pit from the Berserker camp, I exit the Pit normally through the door, there is a guard at the entrance (exit), I talk to him, and he says to me: “The passage is closed. You can’t go into the Pit,” and basically kicks me out from where I was already. Noire doesn't take the easy way out

Optimization: there are questions (but this is not the main thing)

GameStar's editors promised that the PC version of ELEX would "run on a toaster," but not all toasters are created equal. For some players, ELEX feels great on not the latest configurations, while others complain about drawdowns on the PC, which coped well with the third Witcher.
Already after launching the game, you are taken aback by the insanity of what is happening: from the banal plot of the plot, from bad textures, from the artificial world, from the cheap pseudo-futuristic concept, from wooden characters who speak like carbon copies, from mobs that look like a love union of hashish with the fantasy of a mental patient , from the monotonous voice acting and text that do not express any emotions or characters behind the speakers, from the controls as if you were a Haribo gummy bear and the list goes on... a universal negative review

Bugs: there are questions (but this is not the main thing)

The authors of some negative reviews write about “tons of bugs.” We’re not sure about tons, but ELEX definitely can’t be called problem-free. Sometimes a hero can

ELEX is a new project from Piranha Bytes, the studio responsible for such legendary series of games as Gothic. Fans of this studio and their games are completely satisfied with ELEX, judging by the reviews on Steam. Although the game was released in 2017, it is still filled with painfully familiar mechanics that have practically disappeared from modern RPGs. ELEX will provide players with a rather unusual setting, which is a combination of post-apocalypse and fantasy.

However, do not forget that ELEX, in addition to PS4 and Xbox One consoles, was also released on computers. And we all know what the consequences of this are: errors, crashes, bugs, as well as problems with mouse smoothing and non-working saves. It is these problems that we will consider today in this article, which, we hope, will help resolve them with minimal effort.

Despite the fact that ELEX can safely be considered a budget project (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that), the game has quite high requirements for itself. This is especially true for RAM requirements. It feels like all the developers over the last month suddenly decided to double it, but that’s not the point. We recommend that you (highly!) check the system requirements for ELEX, as many problems can be caused by inappropriate hardware for the game.

Minimum System Requirements

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3570, AMD FX-6350
  • RAM: 8 GB RAM
  • Video card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB, AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
  • DirectX: Versions 11
  • Disk space: 35 GB
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790, AMD FX-8350
  • RAM: 16 GB RAM
  • Video card: NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB, AMD RX 480 4GB
  • DirectX: Versions 11
  • Disk space: 35 GB
  • Sound card: DirectX compatible

If you understand that your machine fully meets the ELEX system requirements, then let's move on to solving the problems that have arisen with this game.

Solutions for various ELEX problems

ELEX - crashes/crashes with errors

This is one of the most common problems among all ELEX PC players. Sometimes, a crash can occur during gameplay, and sometimes when starting the game. It is not yet certain what exactly is causing these crashes, but a temporary solution has already been provided on the forums that helps the majority of players. It's quite strange, but it seems to work. So, to fix crashes in ELEX, you need to do the following:

  • install DirectX libraries for June 2010;
  • download the DirectX web installer from the official Microsoft website and automatically update the DirectX libraries;
  • update the driver for your graphics accelerator;
  • add the ELEX executable file to AMD Catalyst and set the 3D graphics options to default settings.

Once you complete all of the above, ELEX will no longer crash constantly, whether during gameplay or at startup.

ELEX - won't start

Some players were completely unlucky, as they were simply unable to launch ELEX. Moreover, they did not receive any error: ELEX refuses to start, no matter what measures were applied. Steam users have put forward a number of steps that may help you still run ELEX on your computer.

  • Run the ELEX executive file as Administrator;
  • go to the game settings on Steam and disable the overlay function in the game;
  • install DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ from the Redist folder in the ELEX folder;
  • disconnect all controllers from your computer;
  • remove ELEX from Steam and install it again;
  • update the Steam client;
  • update the driver for your graphics accelerator;
  • close the Logitech Profiler software;
  • restart your computer.

Some players on Steam noted that these steps were able to help them finally run ELEX on their computer. Accordingly, we recommend that you try all of them.

ELEX - how to disable mouse smoothing

Almost no one likes mouse smoothing. This functionality, of course, can be useful in other areas, but not in gaming. However, it all comes down to personal preference. However, in ELEX, mouse antialiasing seems to be tied to Vsync.

To get rid of anti-aliasing, you need to go to the ELEX graphics settings and simply turn off Vertical Sync. Yes, not the best solution, but at the moment it is the only solution. If you don't want to disable Vsync, you'll have to wait for a patch from ELEX developers, Piranha Bytes.

ELEX - saving does not work

Even if players manage to launch ELEX normally, they may encounter another, no less alarming problem - broken saves. Yes, a rather serious bug that will not allow you to enjoy the gameplay in peace.

However, fortunately, players on Steam have already been able to find a solution to this problem, and it is as follows:

  • Open the file mount_packed.xml using Notepad;
  • change the line Change PhysicalPath=»$(savedgames)/ELEX/SaveGames» on PhysicalPath="save=SaveGames".

Save your changes to this file and try running ELEX. This time the saves should be fully working.

Release Elex took place a couple of days ago, and almost immediately after the release, players encountered an optimization problem. Elex won't start? Is it buggy? Black screen? Does it slow down? No Russian language? Low FPS? Gives an error message? In this article we will tell you how to solve problems starting Elex.

Some of the errors in Elex can be fixed with simple manipulations, but some cannot be fixed on their own and you will have to wait for the official patch. But first, let's check if your computer meets the system requirements of the game:

Minimum Requirements

  • OS:Windows 7, 8, Windows 10 (64 bit)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3570, AMD FX-6350
  • Video card: NVIDIA GTX 660, AMD Radeon 7850 with 2 GB memory
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Disk space: 35 GB
  • OS: Windows 7, 8, Windows 10 (64 bit)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790, AMD FX-8350
  • Video card: NVIDIA GTX 1060, AMD RX 480 with 3 GB memory
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Disk space: 35 GB

Elex is slow. Low FPS. Frisit. Lags

If your Elex slows down or shows a low FPS level, then first of all we advise you to reinstall the video card drivers; this can cause the FPS in Elex to increase significantly. Also, if necessary, install the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010, DirectX and Microsoft Net framework.

If all of the above did not help in any way, and you still experience low FPS and slowdown in the game, then change the graphics settings when you first start it. First of all, turn off anti-aliasing and lower the detail and draw distance settings in Elex. You can also disable post-processing settings, most often they require a lot of PC resources, and disabling them will significantly increase the performance of the game and will not greatly affect the quality of the picture.

It is also worth downloading the first day patch after installing the game and updating the game before launching. Perhaps this will help you avoid most of the problems.

How to enable Russian language in Elex

To enable the Russian language in Elex: Senua’s Sacrifice, go to

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\ElexGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\

And open the Engine.ini file using notepad. Find the line Culture=en_US in it and change en_US to ru_RU

Elex won't start. Takes off

Most often, problems with launching the game arise due to incorrect or incorrect installation. Make sure there are no errors during installation. If errors occur during the Elex installation, cancel it and start the installation again, first disabling the antivirus. You also need to remember that you should not have Cyrillic characters in the path to the game installation folder. Use only Latin letters and numbers.

After installation, run the game as Administrator.

Black screen in Elex

If you see a black screen after launching Elex, try switching the game to windowed mode by pressing the Alt+Enter key combination. Then go back to full screen mode by pressing these key combinations again.

Black screens in games are most often caused by GPU issues. Make sure that your video card meets the minimum requirements for the game that we described above, and also update your video card driver.

There is no Russian language in Elex

Officially, Elex has been completely translated into Russian. So it is not recommended to download a third-party cracker. If you don't have Russian in the game, try changing the language in the game settings menu. If there is no option to select the Russian language, then reinstall the game with the antivirus disabled.

Elex crashes to desktop

Elex saves don't work

If your game saves do not work, or the game does not save, make sure that you have enough disk space where the game save folder is located, most often this is drive “C” - the drive with the installed OC. Also make sure that the path to the save folder has only Latin letters.

Elex no sound

Before starting Elex, make sure the other program has sound. After that, look to see if the sound is turned off in the game settings and whether the correct device for sound playback is selected there. Next, you should open the mixer while the game is running and check if the sound there is turned off.

Saves are not compatible with the latest Elex update

Some players noticed that this message appeared after they installed 4K textures. False alarm. If you ignore the message and continue playing, there will be no problems with loading.

No sound in Elex

If you have this problem, you can try setting the audio quality in the Realtek HD toolbar to default (16bit, 48kHz). Some built-in sound cards may cause problems at higher quality, as most cannot actually reproduce it.

Steam Family Sharing does not work for Elex

Unfortunately, Elex cannot be shared with other Steam users via the Family Sharing option.

Elex won't download

Some gamers have encountered an issue where Steam stops downloading Elex. Once you're sure you have enough hard drive space, try restarting Steam. If this doesn't work, restart your computer and then change your download region in Steam. If this doesn't work, then it may be a server-side problem.

Elex detects monitor incorrectly

If you have multiple monitors connected and multiple outputs, disable additional monitors or play in windowed mode.

Frame rate in Elex is locked at 42 FPS

This problem most often occurs among owners of Nvidia GPUs. Sorry, but this is a hardware glitch, so you'll probably have to wait for a patch.

Video card does not support DirectX 11

A number of players have reported receiving the error message “your device does not support DirectX 11.” None of the usual troubleshooting methods (new drivers, old drivers, disabling integrated graphics) work.

Elex takes a long time to load

If you feel like Elex is taking too long to load, you can try setting the game's priority to “high” in the Windows Task Manager.

The Microsoft Store version of Elex is not working - error 0x80070005

Many players who purchased the game from the Microsoft Store are unable to launch it. This seems like a problem on Microsoft's part, but you can try the following: turn off your firewall, update your store app, update your OS, and make sure your time and date are correct.

Direct3D 11.1 API not available

Players still using Windows 7 as their primary operating system may encounter the “Direct3D 11.1 API is not available” error. To solve this problem, you can update the operating system and install all updates.
