File iso than open So what's this. This question may arise for every computer user. In this article I will tell you what the iso format is and how you need to handle it: how to create an iso image and which program to open.
The iso file extension is an archived image of a cd or dvd disk that is used by programs to create an exact copy of the disks and then burn them. It is very often used to store backup exact copies of disks on a medium. In fact, this file is just a container-archive in which the file system of the ISO 9660 standard is assembled, which describes the standard for CD-ROM disks. The purpose of creating such a format was to ensure full compatibility of the storage medium on different operating systems (such as Unix, Windows, Mac OS).
How to open an iso file with the free 7-zip archiver.
If you have an iso image and need to burn it to a disc, you can use the free CDBurnerXP disc burning program. You can read how to write it down.
If you do not need to write an image to disk and you just want to open an iso file to, for example, see a list of files or open some of them, you can use the free 7-zip archiver. I will show how this is done using one of the files as an example, and at the end of the article I recorded a video with step-by-step instructions. The 7-zip archiver must be installed on your computer.
So open the folder with the disk image file (iso) and click on the file with the right mouse button. In the menu list we find 7-zip, click and in the menu that opens, select "Open archive". This operation will open our file to work with the files that are inside. In this case, we can, for example, select only some of all the files present and unzip them to a computer for reading or viewing. If you select the "Unpack" menu, a window will open with a choice of where to unpack the entire iso file. When you select the "Unpack here" menu, the program will unzip the entire contents of the archive into a folder containing the iso archive itself. And when you select "Unpack to ..." - the program will expand all the files contained in the archive into a folder that will be named the same as the name of the iso file. In our case, we select "Open archive" because this is the most versatile method of working with it.
After that, the archiver will start with a list of files that contains the iso image. Just like in regular explorer, you can select files and open folders. To unzip the necessary files, we select a file, folder or several files and folders and click the "Extract" button. A window will open where you need to specify the folder into which the file will be extracted. In my case, I selected 1 file and extracted it into the same folder as the image itself. Click Ok.
As a result, the files that we extracted should appear in the selected folder. There is nothing super complicated in the iso file and you can work with it in the same way as with a regular archive.
How to open an iso file using the winrar archiver
In principle, you can open an iso with any unzip program that allows you to work with this iso format. As for the most common winrar program, I'll show you how to work with it.
If you already have winrar installed, you can extract all files from the iso image directly from the context menu. But as you can see in the image below, you cannot open the file by pressing the right button. You will need to first launch winrar and select the required file in the program itself to open and then extract the necessary files. If you need to frequently open these types of files, it will be more convenient to add the ability to open with the archiver using the context menu.
To do this, run winrar and open the options menu and then settings. Go to the Integration tab, mark the ISO checkbox and click OK.
After that, the right-click context menu on the ISO file will look like this. Also notice the file icon. It has acquired the form of a winrar archive, i.e. when such a file is launched, the archiver will automatically start with the contents of the file.
Now you can select the files or folders you need to view the contents or extract to your computer. All operations are the same as in the case of the 7-zip archiver.
How to open an iso file with a disk mount program
In the previous examples, we looked at options for how to open and extract the contents of a file. However, in most cases, you will be faced with the task of watching a video or installing a program or game on your computer. And in this case, you need a special program that creates a virtual disk drive on your computer and mounts the iso file, which allows you to use it as an ordinary CD or DVD disk. This is necessary if the installer program needs to work not with the files in the folder, but with a full-fledged drive to install the programs.
The most common and also free software for mounting images is DAEMON Tools Lite. You can download it at daemon-tools.cc. Please note that you need to click on the following link to download:
After downloading, run the installation file and install the program on your computer. At the end of the installation, all ISO files will change their icon to daemon tools and when opened or double-clicked with the left button, they will be automatically mounted as a virtual disk and opened as a disk. To do this, the program will create an additional virtual drive during mounting, and when the image is unmounted, this drive will be removed as unnecessary.
After opening the iso file in this way, you can perform all operations with it as well as those available for files on a regular disk. To unmount the image and hide the virtual drive, right-click on the virtual drive and select eject from the context menu.

We watch a useful video to add information:
You can unpack an ISO file on your computer using the usual WinRAR or 7-Zip archivers, which will just as easily cope with this task, as well as special programs that open ISO files. One of these archivers, as a rule, is already installed on the computer, and further options for unpacking the ISO file with each of them will be discussed in detail.
You can unpack an ISO disk image in many ways and even without additional programs, you can learn more about this in the article at the link http://chajnikam.ru/computer/39-kak-otkryt-fayl-iso.html. Archivers allow you to work with an ISO disk image as with a regular archive, and the whole task will be reduced only to selecting the image file through the explorer and searching for the "Extract" menu item.
How to unzip an ISO file using WinRAR?
WinRAR is one of the most popular paid data archivers, capable of unpacking many archive formats. Despite the license required for the work, it works great and for free without any restrictions in functionality, periodically giving a message about the need to purchase the product.
Its menu is integrated into the Windows shell, which allows you to work with archives directly in Explorer without first launching the archiver application itself. The fastest way to unpack an ISO to a hard drive using WinRAR is to right-click on the file in Explorer and select the appropriate extraction item from the context menu.
When you open an ISO file directly through the WinRAR program, you can immediately view the contents of this disk image and extract either any individual file or all files through the standard program menu.
How to unzip an ISO file using 7-Zip?
7-Zip is a freeware open source archiver with high compression ratio, support for many archive formats and has its own file compression format.
This archiver also integrates into the Windows shell, and allows you to unpack the archive through the context menu of the operating system, without going into the program itself. Unlike WinRAR, 7-Zip does not offer Windows shell integration options during installation and has a nested menu structure. To unpack an ISO disk image using 7-Zip, you need to right-click on this file in Explorer, select "7-Zip" and then select the desired item in the menu that appears.
