How to install a network adapter without internet. How to find out the settings of a network card - IP-address, MAC-address and IP-address of the provider's gateway and change them

In this article, we will deal with such an important point as installing a driver for a network adapter. The network adapter is an Ethernet controller and from installing the correct driver for it, the correct and reliable operation of your Internet connection will depend.

Let's consider where to look at the controller model, whether it works or not. Next, let's move on to the drivers: where to download them and how to install them.

Briefly what a driver is.

A driver is a program (software) that is needed to connect the operating system (OS) with the devices connected to the computer and "explain" the OS how to use them correctly. Almost every device that accesses the OS has its own driver: external devices (peripherals) - mice, printers, monitors, keyboards, etc. , internal (components) - video card, network adapter, motherboard, processor.

Drivers for most devices are already integrated into the OS, but it may turn out that for complex and specific devices, to which the network adapter belongs, you will need to install the current driver.

The default drivers are supplied with the equipment, so when purchasing devices and accessories, check for the presence of the driver - CD

Network adapter diagnostics

In order to check if the network card is working, you need to go to "Device Manager".

Algorithm for transition to "Network adapters":

If the network adapter is OK, then there are no icons like this next to it and it has a name. If it does not work, it will be in the "Other devices" tab and most likely have a name - "Ethernet controller"

Tab "Other devices" >>> "Ethernet controller"

or "Network controller"

Tab "Other devices" >>> "Network controller"

If there is a problem with the controller described above, then you need to install driver for network card - (Ethernet controller), or reinstall it if you have a driver disk or it is saved on your computer. I hope the importance of correct driver installation has been conveyed to you.

Save the drivers to a hard disk, flash drive or other media, as well as save a CD with drivers. Example: after reinstalling the OS, you will not have access to the Internet until the correct one is installed. driver for network card, question: how can you download something from the net?

Identification of network equipment

If you have a personal computer, then in order to find out what driver is needed for the network adapter, you first need to find out the model of the motherboard and on official website manufacturer download the required driver and then install it.

Network Card built into the motherboard. How do I know the model of the motherboard?

If you have a box, check, warranty card, then this information is on them. If there is no box, then through the "Command Line".

On the websites of other manufacturers, the algorithm is similar: go to the "Support" section, etc.

Definition of LAN - driver by hardware ID (Vendor ID and Device ID)

The manufacturer of the device and the device identifier - ID, as well as the driver, can be identified by VEN and DEV.

Vendor ID- device manufacturer identifier (every device manufacturer in the world has one or more such unique identifiers). These numbers are issued by the PCI SIG international organization;
Device ID- unique device identifier (unique for the given Vendor ID). Their numbering is determined by the manufacturer himself.

Installing the network adapter driver

There is nothing difficult in installing the driver: you need to unpack the archive (or you can not unpack it, but just open it and run the file setup.exe).

You can try the method through the "Device Manager", for this, create a folder so that you can quickly find it (you can on the "Desktop"), and unpack the contents of the archive there. Further (the procedure is described above in great detail) >>> "Other devices" >>> "Ethernet controller" >>> PCM >>> "Update drivers" >>> "Browse" (path to the file) >>> "Ok ">>>" Next "

One of the problems that a user may face after reinstalling Windows is the lack of a driver for a network adapter (network driver) for wired or.

And if you don't have a disk with drivers at hand, you will have to look for a driver and download it using another device that has an Internet connection.

In this article, we will look at an algorithm that will allow you to avoid the troubles that may arise after installing the OS.

What is a driver?

This is a program through which the computer's operating system interacts with the hardware of the device (motherboard, video card, network card, printer, scanner, MFP, etc.).

Drivers are developed by companies that produce computer components and peripherals that interact with a PC (for example, office equipment).

Often, modern operating systems (including and) already have a certain set of drivers that allow you to work with the main components of a computer, we will consider the case when such programs are not available.

The peculiarity of the situation when the network driver is not installed is that it is not possible to use programs to automatically install the drivers, since they all use the Internet connection for their work, and since the network driver is not installed, there is no Internet access.

The user usually encounters the installation of network adapter drivers in the following cases:

1. After purchasing a new computer and no OS installed on it.

3. After a failure of the network adapter drivers.

To solve the problems that arise in the first case, you need to look for the disks that come with your computer.

In the past few years, a clear trend has emerged that involves the abandonment of optical disc drives not only among laptop manufacturers, but also among desktop PCs.

Users who independently choose the components from which their computer will be assembled also refuse to install a DVD drive.

Advice! We recommend downloading all the necessary drivers (not just the network driver) to a separate directory on your hard disk and / or flash drive. This will avoid situations when, after installing the operating system, you will need to look for a drive or a PC (tablet, phone) to download drivers from a disk or the Internet.

Installing the network driver

After downloading the required program, you can start installing it.

Similar actions will take place in the case of updating the network driver.

To install / update the network adapter driver, you need to go to the "Device Manager" as it was described earlier.

Select the required item and in the context menu, which is available by clicking the right mouse button, select the item "Update drivers ...".

Select "Search for drivers on this computer."

Go to the directory into which we recently downloaded everything we need, using the "Browse" button, click "Next" and wait for the end of the driver installation process.

There is also an opinion that if you update (reinstall) the network driver, you must first uninstall the old one, and then install the new one.

Important! To remove an already installed driver, go to the "Device Manager", select the network adapter, right-click and select "Remove" from the context menu. After that, the system will warn you that the device driver will be removed, we agree by clicking "OK".

Driver Updater by Carambis

If you have a need to search for universal programs that can function on different OS: I mean utilities for creating group policies, programs for cleaning the system from viruses and, of course, software for working with OS drivers - the best solution would be to use the Carambis program Driver Updater.

With Driver Updater, you can not only get the software you need, but also save a lot of money.

After all, one purchase of a subscription allows you to connect two computers at once.

As for the work process, the utility does an excellent job with the tasks.

Now there is no need to fix errors of connected hardware components on each computer.

Configuring automatic search and installation of updates now automatically updates all devices.

But, if you need to speed up your computer, we recommend using another utility from the same manufacturer -.

Its capabilities:

  • Comprehensive optimization of the operating system;
  • The ability to remove components and temporary files that are no longer used and are not needed for the OS;
  • Removal of all OS error reports;
  • Fast registry cleaning;
  • The ability to delete files that the user chooses;
  • Removing installed programs in the main program window with a few clicks.

Remember, files that have been deleted by the program can no longer be recovered (unlike the usual deletion procedure using built-in OS functions).

Run diagnostics on your computer several times a month to keep your system running smoothly.

How to Install a Network Adapter Driver Without Internet Access

Driver for network adapter - detailed installation instructions

If you have already encountered reinstalling the Windows operating system, then for sure you could have observed a situation when, after installing it, there are no drivers for the network adapter. That is, you cannot go to the Internet, and, accordingly, neither download the required driver. There may be a different situation: after an unsuccessful driver update to the network card, they simply did not go, and the backup was not created. Again, there is no Internet access, therefore, you will not be able to download the drivers. What to do in such cases? Today I will tell you how you can solve this problem.

Unfortunately, we will need the Internet anyway. However, imagine either downloading a 10-12 GB volume of the complete collection of drivers from Driver Pack Solution, or downloading a small very useful utility even via the mobile Internet, which takes up little memory and is able to help out in such a situation. I think the second option is preferable.

So, we will talk about the 3DP Net program. In general, it is able to solve the current problem when there is no driver for the network card. Although it takes up little space, it has a large database of drivers for network adapters (100-160 MB, such a volume can be downloaded using even the mobile Internet). The authors specially created this software for such cases when there is no network when reinstalling the operating system. The program is completely in Russian and works perfectly on all popular Windows operating systems.

I advise you to download this utility from the official source at this link
To go to download, just click on "Latest 3DP Net Download"

After starting the 3DP Net program, your network adapter will be automatically detected using a huge database of drivers. By the way, if the driver is not found on your card, the utility will offer to install a universal driver for the adapter model. In this case, most likely, the Internet should appear, but some functions may not work correctly (for example, the speed of the network adapter will be limited).

As you can see in the screenshot, the utility easily identified my network card and now you can easily install the driver on the problematic device. After the program has carried out all the necessary actions, you can see a similar window,

In addition to installing the driver on the network adapter, the 3DP Net utility has a very useful feature - creating a backup copy of already installed drivers. This is useful, for example, during the reinstallation of the operating system. First, the drivers are backed up, after the OS is installed, and only then all the previously saved drivers are restored. These actions will significantly save time and hassle.

So, to create a backup copy of the required drivers, open the program window, select "Driver" and click on the "Backup" item.

Let's wait a bit while the utility scans the entire computer for drivers. After that, a list of devices on which the drivers are installed will appear. Here we need to tick off the necessary drivers for redundancy (if you don't want to rack your brains, select all devices).

As you can see, everything is very easy and simple. I think the article turned out to be useful to you and helped you solve the problem with restoring the system's network performance. To prevent such situations, I recommend that you: make backups of drivers when reinstalling the system or when updating the driver to any device; copy the verified set of drivers (3DP Net, Driver Pack Solution or the like) to external media.

That's all, friends! Until next time!

Installing a network adapter in a computer

A network adapter is a device responsible for sending and receiving packets, that is, it is a "window" through which a computer interacts with other computers and devices on the network.

As you already know, there are external and internal network adapters integrated into the motherboard.

External network cards are made in the form of expansion cards that plug into a slot on the motherboard (the most common), or devices that connect to a USB port.

PCI slot is the main slot used to connect devices of this kind. It can operate at 33 and 66 MHz and, according to specifications, in a wide range of speeds from 132 MB / s to 528 MB / s, which is quite enough to work on any network, be it 10 Mbit / s or 1000 Mbit / s.

Recently, almost all motherboards have an integrated network adapter, which is quite convenient and also saves a little money. However, most of the built-in network cards are of a low level, which does not allow them to be used to organize the operation of servers and other functional computers. Therefore, many system administrators prefer to install an additional network card. In addition, an additional network card is simply necessary in all kinds of servers.

The speed of the adapter depends on the network equipment used to organize the network. If it operates at a speed of 100 Mbit / s, then there is no point in purchasing network cards that operate at a speed of 10 Mbit / s. As a last resort, you can use an adapter that operates at both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps.

The choice of wireless network adapters should be taken very carefully - otherwise, you may end up with a network in which half of the computers will not be able to communicate with the other half.

If a coaxial cable is used, then you must also take into account that network cards must have a BNC connector. As a rule, in this case, they purchase combined network cards with two connectors: BNC and RJ-45. These cards usually operate at 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps.

For a wired twisted pair network, it is best to purchase network adapters that are designed to operate on a 100Base-TX network or even Gigabit Ethernet.

To avoid unpleasant moments when working on the network, it is better to use wireless network adapters of the same standard, for example, IEEE 802.11b. Better yet, purchase IEEE 802.11g or IEEE 802.11n equipment that is compatible with all previous wireless standards.

To install the network adapter into a computer, you need to remove the shaped cover (or left side) covering it from the system unit by unscrewing several screws on the back of the case.

Having chosen the PCI slot in which you plan to install the network card, you should unscrew or break off the corresponding bracket in the rear wall of the case (Fig. 13.2).

Rice. 13.2. Unscrew the plug

Attention!

Before unscrewing and even more so breaking the bar, place the network card to the PCI slot to determine which of the slots on the back of the case needs to be cleared. Network cards can be either in the left version, when the card itself is to the left of the slot, or in the right one. It depends on which of the planks you need to remove.

After that, take the network card in your hands so that the metal bar is turned to the side opposite to the computer, and with slight but persistent pressing on the card from both sides, insert it into the slot (Fig. 13.3).

Rice. 13.3. We insert the network adapter

After wiggling the board in different directions, check the tightness of the contacts and, if necessary, press again on both sides so that the metal bar to which the network board is screwed snuggles against the chassis chassis. Then screw the metal bar to the chassis with the screw.

Now you can replace the housing cover and connect the cable to the output of the network card (Fig. 13.4) or (when using a wireless network card) screw the antenna.

Rice. 13.4. Installation is complete, fasten the antenna

After installing the network adapter, you can turn on the computer and start installing and configuring the drivers.

Installing the network adapter driver

After installing the network card into the slot of the motherboard, you need to load its driver. Operating systems such as Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003 have a large database of drivers for various devices, so the network card will most likely be detected automatically and the system will install the network drivers itself. If the system does not recognize the type of network card, you will have to install the driver yourself.

After connecting a new device to the computer and loading the operating system, after a few seconds, a message will appear in the notification area stating that new hardware has been found (Fig. 13.5). After a few more seconds, if the required driver is found in the driver database, a message will be displayed that the device is installed and ready to work.

Rice. 13.5. New device found message

A situation is possible when some kind of failure occurs during installation and the system cannot correctly install the network card, which will also be mentioned in the corresponding message.

In any case, you can check the status of the network card using Device Manager. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties from the context menu that appears - the System Properties window will open, containing several tabs with various reference information. Some of them can also be used to invoke certain system utilities. In particular, you can run automatic updates of operating system components over the Internet or System Restore and Monitor Disks.

Let's go to the Equipment tab (Fig. 13.6), which contains commands designed to work with the existing equipment. It allows you not only to view information about installed devices and drivers, but also to install new hardware and configure profiles for different system configurations.

Rice. 13.6. Hardware tab

We are interested in information about installed devices, so click the Device Manager button. In the window that opens, you can see information about any device installed in the system by selecting the appropriate item and double-clicking on the name of the desired device (Fig. 13.7).

Rice. 13.7. Device Manager window. Network card installed

If the system could not find the network card after turning on the computer or, having found it, did not install the correct driver, then you will have to do it manually.

To add a new device to the system, it is convenient to use the Add New Hardware Wizard, for what should you run the Start command? Control panel and in the window that opens, double-click on the Add Hardware button - the Add Hardware Wizard window will open (Figure 13.8).

Rice. 13.8. Add Hardware Wizard

The principle of operation is the same as in previous versions of the operating system. After reading the useful information about what the wizard can do and what it is intended for, click the Next button - the wizard will analyze the system and collect information about the connected devices. This will take some time, so you will have to wait a bit, after which the wizard will ask you at what stage of connection the device is (Fig. 13.9).

Rice. 13.9. Choosing the stage of connecting the device

Two answer options are offered, but you must select the first - Yes, the device is already connected - and click the Next button - a window will open (Fig. 13.10) containing a list of detected devices, in which your device should be located under the question mark. If it is not there, then you should go to the very end of the list, mark the Add a new device box and click the Next button.

Rice. 13.10. We are looking for a device in the list

Note

If you select No, the device is not connected yet (see Fig. 13.9), then in the next window the wizard will offer to turn off the computer, install the device and start the Add Device Wizard again.

As usual, the wizard will offer two options for further actions:

Search and automatic installation of equipment (recommended) - this mechanism starts immediately after the operating system boots, so if the initial installation of the network card did not give any results, then a second search, most likely, will not help;

Installing hardware selected from the list manually - it is assumed that the user knows where the device driver is located and will indicate its location himself (Fig. 13.11).

Rice. 13.11. Selecting an installation option

If you nevertheless decided to use the first option, then set the switch to the required position and click Next. Do not forget to install the disk that comes with the network card into the drive.

The wizard will start looking for the device, which may take a long time. If the search did not return any results, a corresponding window will appear with a proposal to search for the device driver manually. If the search is successful, a window will appear with a message that the network card driver is installed.

To start searching for a driver manually, first of all, you need to indicate in the window that appears (Fig. 13.12) that the network card will be installed by selecting the Network adapters item and clicking the Next button.

Rice. 13.12. Choosing the right type of equipment - a network card

By default, the wizard offers to select a driver from its own database of drivers, indicating the manufacturer of the network card and its name. Since this option has no effect (unsuccessful search), using the Have Disk button (Fig. 13.13), specify the path to the location of the driver on the disk installed in the drive or in another location known to you.

Rice. 13.13. Specify the manufacturer and name of the network card or use the Have Disk button

After confirming the selection, the wizard, having found a suitable driver, will start copying the necessary files. At the same time, he will check the digital signature of the network card driver in order to ensure maximum protection of the operating system from unverified (previously untested) software, in our case, the network card driver.

If the driver does not have a signature, that is, the network card driver may in some way disrupt the system's performance, the installation wizard will inform you about this and offer to choose the option for further actions: continue installing the driver or install another. If you are sure that the driver is functional, then continue with the installation, otherwise you will have to look for a new driver.

Upon completion of the installation, the wizard will display a resulting window with a message about this (Fig. 13.14).

Rice. 13.14. Driver installation complete

To make sure the network card is already installed, check it by launching Device Manager as described earlier.

It should be noted that wireless equipment is rarely installed automatically. Therefore, you will have to perform similar steps for each wireless device. The only thing that can make the task easier is a more or less intelligent installer, which should be on the CD that comes with the device.
