Why did the touch buttons on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge stop working?

Possible causes of failure:

  • Wrong firmware version. Sometimes, after a software update, some gadget functions stop working.
  • Breakage of the cable that connected the display and the sensor.
  • Software failure. Reinstall or update the firmware.
  • mechanical impact. Often, after a blow or pressure on the gadget, the buttons fail.
  • Smartphone circuit board failure.
  • Water ingress into the hull. This leads to oxidation of the metal elements of the phone.

Despite the 4-year age of the Samsung S6, to this day it is very popular and in demand among buyers. It easily competes with modern gadgets. The phone is quite functional and powerful for comfortable use. But it also has vulnerabilities. Often, owners are faced with the fact that the Samsung S6 buttons do not work or they malfunction. At the same time, the cause of the breakdown is not always hidden “on the surface”.

Main causes of malfunctions

Some of the most common causes of touchpad problems include:

  • Failure of internal microcircuits. Caused by the oxidation process (when moisture enters the case) or cracks through which dust and dirt enter the device.
  • Disconnection or complete break of the loop. Occurs due to mechanical damage to the phone.
  • Software failures. Occur mainly due to incorrect firmware of the gadget or installation of programs incompatible with the phone.

The most common reason why the touch buttons stopped working on the Samsung Galaxy S6 is careless handling of the device. Shocks and drops cause not only external aesthetically unattractive scratches, which are provocateurs of damage in the touchscreen layers or in the internal elements of the gadget, but also cable breaks, as well as cracks on the screen surface that are invisible during visual inspection.

What to do when touch buttons stop working on Samsung Galaxy S6

Before taking the smartphone to a service center, you should eliminate the error in the software. This is done by resetting the gadget to factory settings. To do this, follow the following algorithm:

  • Hold down two buttons at once: "Volume" (+) and "Power".
  • The menu will open. In it, you must select the Wipe item.
  • Confirm the action.
  • Reboot (“Reboot system…”).

Switching is carried out using the volume buttons. Confirm the action with the "Power" button. Remember, such a reboot will delete all data from the device, and it would be wise to backup important data before carrying out the procedure.

Repair of mechanical breakdowns

If the problem does not disappear after a reboot, then the reason lies in mechanical damage. The first thing to do is to carry out a complete diagnosis of the device. Such a procedure will allow you to identify a failed part: a cable or a touchscreen. After determining the damaged element, it is necessary to replace it (you can carry out repairs both independently and with the help of a service center wizard). As a rule, after such a repair, the touch panel begins to function normally again.

Quality replacement parts

For effective repairs, it is necessary to purchase only high-quality spare parts. Only such elements can become a guarantee of long-term proper operation of the gadget. You can buy a cable or a touchscreen for Samsung s6 repair in our online store. We sell only high-quality goods at attractive prices, and we provide a guarantee for it.

Does your Galaxy S6 automatically choose a back button that closes apps? This issue appears sporadically on the Galaxy S6, but it's not always a physical glitch. You can try to fix this software.

Pressing the back button on the back is certainly not optimistic. In this situation, the first thing that comes to mind is the possibility of damage to the device. In fact, often such a problem occurs, for example, after flooding the phone, but it is worth knowing that this is not always the case. Many people have had a similar issue with auto back pressing and the software has proven to be the source of the problem.

Before you decide to visit a website, there are two things worth trying on your own. First, we reload the system overlay settings, and if that doesn't help, we will reset the phone settings to default. Many people report that this is enough to reduce or even completely eliminate this problem.

1. Reset TouchWiz

The first way is to reset the TouchWiz overlay. You can do this using the Android settings. Switch to Android on Android "Settings > Application Manager". A list of all your applications installed on the system will be displayed.

Use the filter to customize the list to show all apps, including system apps. Then search for the element touchwiz and go into its details.

Stop the TouchWiz application with the button "Power Stop"(Force stop). Then select "Clear Data"(clear data) and "Clear cache"(Clear Cache).

This will likely reset your home screen and icons, but in many cases it also fixes the back button issue.

2. Perform a so-called hard reset

If the above solution does not help, then there is one more thing worth doing before you decide to service and repair. You can do a so-called hard reset, i.e. just reboot your phone to factory settings. This option will delete all data from your phone, including your personal files, and restore the device to its default settings.

To do this, first turn off the device completely using the power button. Wait a minute, then turn your phone back on using the following button combination:

Home Button (Home) + Power Button (Power) + Volume Up Button (Volume Up)

Press the buttons until Recovery (Android System Recovery) appears on the screen. Using the volume buttons, you can move up and down the menu and alternately select an option by pressing the power button.

Choose an option "Wipe data/factory reset" and confirm deletion of all data. Wait for the operation to complete and return to the main recovery mode screen. Choose in it "Reboot system now", to restart your phone in normal mode.

The device will restart with the cleaned software. The first time you start, you need to set up the device, the same as when you first turn on the phone after removing it from the window (language selection, Wi-Fi connection, Google account sign-in, etc.).

The problem with automatic reverse should be fixed. However, if this does not happen, it may cause physical damage to the device, and you may need to put the phone into service.

3. Remove the foil / tempered glass from the screen

Another source of the problem is often a screen protector or tempered glass that sticks all over the front of the screen. It is true that there is no guarantee that a photo of the screen will help (and will be thrown away once the foil/glass is removed), however, many people have also reported that it helps in some cases.

You can try to remove the protective layer from the screen and see if it solves the problem with the automatic pressing of the back button.

On my Samsung Galaxy S6 (Android 6.0.1), sometimes the back button starts working by itself, closing the current app or returning to a page. Sometimes this happens in bursts, rendering the device unusable.

I faced the same issue. I tried everything, but nothing completely solved the problem. Finally visited the service center and fixed it. They said that some kind of malfunction in the digitizer under the back button started, as if the back button was pressed when the device reaches a certain temperature.

One thing you can try: (If you have user permissions) Enable on-screen navigation buttons and disable normal touch buttons and see if the problem persists. Mine was only a month old so I went to a service center.

Good luck, Hope this helps.

Had the same problem. I did a factory reset that didn't solve anything, I tried a code that resets the touchscreen sensitivity. No joy It's hardware. If your phone is under warranty, take it back. My camera was wrong, the local repair shop took it too. They replaced the strip that runs around the perimeter of my cell. This strip contains sensors on the bottom of the cell and on the side, as well as a charger port.

Problem solved. Hope this helps

I wouldn't think of it as a software issue because if you did a factory reset it should iron out most of the kinks in the OS. And it's not limited to S6 only, as it was reported back in S4. This was probably due to a hardware problem caused either during packaging / transport / mechanical damage, such as during a fall, read

If your device is fairly new, return it for repair or a Samsung Authorized Service Center. When opening the phone, they are likely to release pressure on the plate that makes contact between the back button and the mechanical piece of hardware.

All touch gadgets have a drawback: the touch screen is very sensitive to various kinds of damage and negative impacts. If the touch buttons stopped working on the Galaxy S6, then the problem most often lies precisely in the damage to the glass.

Why the touch buttons do not work on the Galaxy S6

To provoke a situation in which the touch buttons do not work on the Galaxy S6 can be a sloppy attitude with the gadget. Negative influences that can affect the sensitivity of the sensor include:

  • mechanical impacts - shocks, falls, squeezing;
  • ingress of moisture, including condensate;
  • temperature fluctuations - a sharp change in heat / cold.

If the touch buttons do not work on the Galaxy S6, then most likely the malfunctions occurred due to:

  1. microcracks that are invisible during visual inspection;
  2. breakage of the cable connecting the buttons to the board;
  3. oxidation of contacts or microcircuit parts;
  4. software failure.

Repair touch buttons Galaxy S6

You can independently check the performance of the touch buttons by resetting the user settings and returning to the factory settings. If such manipulation did not bring a positive result, then it is necessary to test the smartphone for internal malfunctions.
