Why doesn't the webcam work on my laptop or PC? Detailed guide to setting up from scratch. What to do if the camera on your laptop doesn't work? Webcam won't load

When choosing a smartphone, each person is guided by the relevant parameters. For some, the battery is important, for others the sound, for others the camera. And some simply choose an ultra-budget phone with low specifications.

Very often, certain problems appear in such smartphones over time. One of these problems is that the camera on an Android smartphone does not work. True, even flagships are not immune from such troubles. Therefore, in this article we will analyze the reasons for this problem, and also figure out what to do if the camera on Android does not work.

Causes

  • Firmware

Sometimes it happens that after updating the firmware, the phone does not work better, but quite the opposite. The phone began to glitch, freeze, and some applications began to crash. This also applies to the camera.

  • Viruses

A virus is a malicious program that affects not only the operation of the system itself, but also the launch of the applications themselves. Perhaps your camera is not working precisely because a virus has entered your phone.

You may like:

  • Mechanical damage

If you dropped or hit your smartphone, this could be the main problem with a camera not working. Most likely the camera eye itself was damaged, or the cable fell off.

  • Clogged cache

When a module's cache becomes clogged, the application begins to malfunction. In this case, cameras. The camera may start every other time, or not start at all.

  • Pollution

The camera is dusty or dirty. This is, so to speak, a mistake by the manufacturer, since he did not provide adequate protection for the camera from dust. Because of this, the camera may not work correctly.

  • Conflict with another application

In some cases, the camera stops working when you install an application that conflicts with the camera application. That is, you must choose which program you will use: the one that was installed by the manufacturer, or the one that you downloaded. But sometimes both programs may not work.

This often happens when you have downloaded several cameras or photo editors.

  • Incorrect firmware

Firmware for a smartphone is not a complicated matter, but it is delicate. When updating the firmware, all parameters, modules, etc. are updated. Therefore, it is very important to choose normal firmware, without bugs, and only for your smartphone. Even if it is a custom ported firmware, carefully read the description for it. Perhaps it is in this firmware that the camera does not work.

  • Low memory

As you use your phone, you may not notice how the memory is becoming less and less. And it is precisely because of a lack of memory that the camera may not work. Perhaps the program will launch, but you obviously won’t be able to take a photo or shoot a video.

  • Incorrect setting

Perhaps there was a settings failure, or you manually set the settings incorrectly. In any case, this may cause the camera to not work properly.

  • Memory card damage

Since most phones work with memory cards, we set the default memory to an SD card. But the card is a short-lived device, so if your camera often displays errors or malfunctions (especially when saving a video or photo), the problem may be hidden in the flash drive.

Remedies

Now let's talk about ways to fix this problem.

The very first thing you need to do is turn off the phone, remove and insert the battery back, and then turn on the smartphone. Perhaps there was just a small system failure that can be easily resolved by rebooting. And if something is more serious, then here are the methods for solving this problem.

  • If the issue is with the firmware, then several options can help you:
    • System rollback
    • Reset
    • Firmware update to a more recent version

If the camera stops working after an over-the-air update, you need to roll back to the old version. Rollback is done differently in each phone.

You can also try resetting to factory settings. True, everything will be deleted from your phone’s memory, but then your camera will work.

If rolling back the system did not help and resetting the settings did not help either, you need to manually flash the phone to a more recent firmware or to an older version. The main thing is that the firmware is stable and without bugs.

  • One of the most common problems is viruses.

To clean your phone from viruses, you need to download an antivirus and scan the system. If the cause of the camera malfunction is indeed a virus, then the antivirus program will find it, and you will only have to delete the malicious files found.

The best antivirus today is Dr. Web. It can be downloaded for free from the Play Store.

  • Mechanical damage can only be resolved at a service center

Anything can happen when you hit your phone. If the camera does not work after the phone is hit, then all that remains is to take it to the service center. If you decide to disassemble the phone and fix the camera yourself, this may result in damage to the board, cables and other components.

Therefore, if you are not confident in your abilities, then it is better not to engage in amateur activities. You may have to replace the camera module, but you won't be able to do that at home.

  • Clear cache

The simplest and most harmless reason is a clogged cache. What is cache?

Consequently, if the cache is clogged, the access speed will be very low, and as a result the application will throw an access error. Therefore, we go to settings, then go to applications, and look for the camera. Click on it and look for the line “Clear cache”. After this, your camera will work again.

  • Removing dust

This is unlikely to affect the camera, but the picture will be greatly distorted. Therefore, an inexperienced user will immediately think that something serious has happened to the camera, since he does not get the desired photo quality.

To remove dust, you need to contact a phone repair or service center. The master will carefully remove the glass, clean everything, and you will again admire the clear image.

  • Remove the conflicting application

Finding the culprit in this situation is difficult. If you installed a specific application, after which you noticed problems with the camera, then you need to remove it. If such a problem did not appear immediately, then you need to search at random.

Or just do a factory reset. The system is formatted and the camera comes back to life.

  • Bug in the firmware

You need to install another firmware. If you installed the official firmware and the camera stops working, then this is a manufacturer’s error, which will be fixed soon. But this happens extremely rarely. Mainly in ultra-budget Chinese smartphones.

If we are talking about custom firmware, then you need to contact the creator of the firmware. Perhaps the creator will make a fix or patch that will fix this problem, or maybe not. You alone are responsible for installing the firmware! Therefore, carefully study the firmware description and consider all possible bugs in order to avoid such problems in the future.

  • Change default memory

Lack of memory is one of the reasons. Therefore, you need to switch the default memory to the SD card in the memory settings. If you don't have an SD card, then you need to delete unnecessary files so that there is free space for saving new pictures.

If there is no default memory selection option in your camera settings, then look for this feature in your phone settings.

  • Restore camera settings to default

If you like to tinker with the camera settings to achieve the best picture quality, then in the future the camera may stop working precisely because of such actions. To restore the default settings, go to your phone's settings, go to applications and find the camera. In the list of operations that appears, select “Restore default settings.”

  • Check your memory card

Sooner or later, your memory card will start to fail. To restore it, you need to format it and test it with special programs. It is advisable to do this on a computer. The program will clean the flash drive, fix errors, etc. Then insert the flash drive into the phone again.

This method will only help if your photos from the camera are saved on an SD card.

Conclusion

If the problem - the camera on Android does not work - is related to the software, then it can be easily solved at home. If this is a hardware failure or mechanical damage, then you cannot do without a specialist.

All modern smartphones are equipped with cameras. Depending on the characteristics, they can be used for video calls and low-quality pictures, or give a head start to full-fledged cameras.

At the same time, the user of any device may wonder why the camera on the phone does not work?

What is the cause of the problem and is it possible to fix it yourself: the answer to such questions can be found in this article.

Possible causes of the malfunction

Of all the possible breakdowns, the camera most often suffers due to:

  • infection of the device with viruses;
  • installing or updating with incompatible firmware;
  • lack of free space;
  • mechanical damage;
  • Cache memory clogged;
  • settings failure;
  • module contamination;
  • conflict with other programs;
  • problems with the memory card.

Most problems can be easily fixed on your own. To do this, you just need to determine exactly why the camera does not work on Android, and you can begin to solve the problem.

Software glitch

You can often fix the problem by simply rebooting the phone. A malfunction may affect the functionality of the camera by completely failing it or displaying a black screen when turned on.

If the camera still doesn't work after this, you may need to reset it to factory settings. At the same time, all programs manually installed on the phone will be deleted.

They can be restored after the process is completed from the cloud storage. The camera will return to its original software state and work again, but it's worth considering other options first.

Application incompatibility

Not all applications on a smartphone can coexist in harmony. If the camera on your phone stops working after installing a new program, you will have to remove it to restore the functionality of the module. Often the problem arises when deciding to use a non-standard camera application.

It is difficult to find a specific program if several versions of it were installed at once in a short period. In this case, you will have to delete them all or use the reset function

Check your device for viruses and Trojans

The functionality of all applications can be disrupted by malware. They are installed when downloading files to your phone from unverified sources. Viruses can also enter the device when installing known applications from third-party sources. The main, front, or both cameras may suffer.

An antivirus will help solve problems, but you should download it only from the official Android application store. There, useful programs are available for free and are already checked for viruses.

Firmware update and installation of new firmware

The camera on your phone stopped working after updating the software or installing a new one? This means that the problem is precisely the compatibility of the device with the new firmware. The following will help you troubleshoot the problem:

  • return to the old version;
  • reset to factory settings;
  • flash the phone again.

How to return your phone to its previous state depends on its manufacturer and model.

The camera module failed when installing custom software on the device - there are bugs in the firmware and you need to wait for them to be fixed by the manufacturer, or return to the previous version of Android. Stock software is more reliable and there is minimal risk of problems when installing it.

If the camera does not work after updating the official software, the error will soon be corrected by the manufacturer. You need to wait a little or return to the previous version. This, most often, only happens with unpopular models of Chinese smartphones.

When the camera turns on but does not allow you to take pictures, clearing the Cache is required. At the same time, only the rear camera may not work, but the front camera may shoot as before. The reason is that the front camera is usually of poorer quality and less memory is required to run the module.

Cache is a high-speed device memory needed to speed up applications.

Clearing it keeps all installed data on the phone unchanged.

The process is carried out in the smartphone settings, in the “Camera” section. Clearing the general cache will also help. To do this, go to the “Memory” or “Storage” section.

Incorrect photo saving settings

Most devices have a slot for installing a flash card. When expanding the phone's memory, the user chooses where to save downloaded files, music, videos and photos.

Insufficient memory in the default file storage location is the main cause of camera failure. In this case, the module will turn on, but will not remove. Clearing the memory or changing the storage location will help.

The mobile phone camera may stop working if the storage location is a memory card and it is removed. Usually, the phone changes the settings automatically, but this may not happen on some models.

Also, the installed flash drive may fail. Memory failures prevent the camera from working on your phone, and to solve the problem you need to fix the memory card errors or format it. It's better to use a computer for this.

Reset

If the camera on a mobile device does not work after changing some of its modes and effects, then you need to return the module to its previous settings. Resetting to factory settings is carried out in the phone settings and the “Applications” section.

You need to select a camera from the list and activate the desired operation in the window that opens. The process does not affect other applications and is absolutely safe.

If this action does not help, you will need to reset the general settings of the phone.

Wipe the camera's peephole

When the camera turns on and takes pictures, but there is a lot of noise or blur in the image, an inexperienced user may think that the module is faulty. Often in such cases, all you need to do is wipe the camera eye, which, due to contamination, produces an unclear picture.

If after the appropriate procedures the situation does not change, dust has gotten under the lens. This happens due to a manufacturing defect or on low-quality Chinese devices. Experienced technicians at the service center can remove dust from the module. In some cases, a complete camera replacement will be required.

Mechanical damage to the module

This problem cannot be solved on our own. If the phone has been dropped, gotten wet, or received any other damage, the camera failure can only be repaired by a qualified technician. Repairing your device yourself can lead to even bigger problems.

Modern models of computers and peripheral devices are so diverse that not always even an experienced user can figure out how to configure a webcam.

This article describes in detail, how to check the operation and set up a webcam on a computer and laptop.

Before use, you must check whether the equipment operates correctly.

Important! Windows 7 lacks the necessary tools and requires you to download and install additional programs.

Windows 8, unlike the previous version, is already equipped with the necessary utility. To launch this program, you need to type “Camera” in the search and click on the camera icon that appears.

In the case of Windows 7, for testing you can use: an application that will work with the device and online services. Programs designed to work with a webcam and microphone include Skype and Media Player Classic.

However, it is not always convenient to install an application, so it is often much easier to use sites designed for these purposes. For example, webcamtest.ru or webcamtoy.com.

Why the webcam does not work: possible problems

What should you do if the webcam on your laptop does not work and if the test shows unsatisfactory results?

Listed below are the most common causes, due to which the device may not work correctly or not work at all. Please note that the camera may not work in or on your device.

  • incorrect connection;
  • error in the application using the camera;
  • breaking;
  • lack of necessary software;
  • Incorrect Windows settings.

To solve the first problem need to check the connector to which the camera is connected. Another physical problem could be a manufacturing defect or the camera's lifespan being too long.

Reference! In this case, you should either contact the warranty store or replace the device. If everything is connected correctly, the problem is most likely in the software part.

To check the camera in Windows, you should go to Device Manager and find out the camera status. If there is an exclamation mark next to the device name, you should download drivers from the Internet or install them from disk.

Usually the disk comes with the device. The downward-pointing arrow sign indicates that you need to turn on the device.

Microphone problems

In addition to the above problems, a situation may arise when There is video, but no sound, that is, the microphone does not work.

There could be several explanations for this:

  • choice wrong connector in the case when the camera microphone is connected separately;
  • problems with applications or drivers;
  • breaking;
  • incorrect settings.

As in the previous case, the microphone status can be found by opening Device Manager. You may need to install additional software.

For applications, their documentation usually tells you how to properly configure the required devices. We should not forget that the microphone may simply break- in this case, you should contact for repairs or buy a new one.

Some cameras have additional buttons that turn the device and its components, such as the light and microphone, on or off. Should carefully read the instructions for this model.

Perhaps the manufacturer provides a hardware shutdown and manual configuration is required for correct operation.

Setting up a webcam in Windows from scratch

Built-in camera

Cameras can be either external or built-in. In the case of laptops, the second option is more likely. First of all, when you turn on the laptop, you should check Allowed or use of webcam in BIOS menu.

To do this, in the BIOS menu you need to select the System Configuration tab and the Built-in Device Option item. A list of devices will appear, including the webcam. For it to work, you need to select the Enabled option.

Attention! You should be careful with BIOS settings. You also need to remember that in laptops the camera and microphone are separate elements; the Enabled option must be set for each of them.

Setting up on Windows

In Windows OS, the camera can be configured through Device Manager. To do this you need to go to My Computer - Properties - Device Manager - Imaging Devices.

When you press right click on the camera name, a context menu will appear.

The Enable item (second from the top) in the list indicates that the camera is disabled and needs to be turned on, and the Disable item, on the contrary, indicates that the camera is turned on.

In addition, there is a Properties item in the menu - it is located at the very bottom - when clicked, the properties window opens. In the Driver tab you can enable or disable the device, and also check the software status.

In order to change camera settings, you need to act as an Administrator (root) and know the password (if the Administrator account is protected).

Useful video

In the video you will see a guide on how to set up a webcam:

This is just a brief overview of how to check the operation and set up a webcam on a computer and laptop. For more detailed information, you can contact Microsoft technical support or the camera manufacturer's website.

Let's look at the most common reasons why the webcam does not work in your Windows 10 operating system. The new version of the OS has a system-wide option that completely disables your webcam.

The Settings app has several switches that disable the webcam in all applications, individually and for the entire device. If the switches are in the inactive position, even desktop applications will not be able to use it.

In general, permission settings affect not only new Windows 10 apps from the official Store (UWP), but also some desktop ones. If your camera is not working, first go to System Settings.

This can be done from the Start button menu or by pressing a specific key combination. These are the Win + I keys, press them.

WHY THE WEB CAM DOESN'T WORK

At the top left of the window, make sure the “Allow access to the camera on this device” option is enabled. If not, click the “Change” button and set the value to enabled.

In the next step, make sure that the “Allow applications to access the camera” option is turned on. Without this, no applications on the system, including desktop ones, will be able to see or use your webcam. This option has changed since the April 2018 OS update. Previously, it only affected UWP apps and did not affect traditional desktop programs.

In the “Select apps that can access your camera” section, make sure that all the apps you need can access and are not disabled. Otherwise, set to “On”.

If all the above parameters are set correctly, the operating system should not interfere with anything. These are all the traditional steps to find and eliminate the reasons why your webcam is not working.

WHY DOES THE WEBCAM NOT WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER

In addition to simply unplugging, you or anyone else with access can disable/enable webcam or UEFI on some PCs or laptops. This option is most often found on enterprise laptops because it gives you the ability to safely disable access to them.

You can also disable it in the OS Device Manager. If you previously completed this step, you will need to go back and turn your device back on.

The Windows 10 operating system tries to update device drivers whenever you connect them automatically. But this doesn't always work as expected. In some cases, you may need to download the device driver installation package from the manufacturer's official website and install it yourself.

If no applications can see the webcam, it is worth checking again that it is connected correctly. This applies to the cable. This also happens. For USB, make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your PC. Unplug it and plug it back in to make sure it's secure.

Some webcams have indicators. Please note whether the indicator is active after connection. It's also worth trying a different USB port if available.

OTHER REASONS

If nothing helps, all settings are activated, installed, the connection is correct, then there are two more options for solving the problem.

The first is that you may need to dig into the settings of the specific application you are trying to use. This is especially true if several video capture devices are connected to the computer. The wrong one may be automatically selected.

For example, in Skype, go to the “Settings” menu, then to “Sound and Video” and select your preferred camera from the drop-down list.

Attention! In Windows 10, the downloadable desktop version of Skype and the pre-installed version are almost the same, but the downloadable version can see more types of webcams. This is because it is a classic desktop app and comes pre-installed with UWP.

And the last second option - if you were unable to find out why the webcam is not working using the methods described above, it may simply be faulty. Try connecting it to other computers and see the result. Thank you for your attention!

Video surveillance systems, like other technical equipment, can fail. In this article we will reveal the possible reasons for the incorrect operation of the equipment.

The main causes of malfunctions in the video surveillance system include:

Typical video surveillance design

Problems with connector installation

On the one hand, there is nothing complicated in installing connectors for video surveillance systems, and anyone can cope with this task. The tools you need are a screwdriver, a knife and pliers. On the other hand, poor-quality installation of connectors is the most common cause of incorrect operation of a video surveillance system. The consequences of this phenomenon manifest themselves in the form of signal loss or the appearance of noise in the image. If, when moving the BNC connector (signal), ripples appear or intensify, or the signal either disappears or appears, it is necessary to make repairs - re-crimp the old connector or replace it with a new one. You should do the same with the power connector.

Interference from electrical equipment and power networks

The proximity of an existing cable route (220 and 380 V) can cause signal distortion, interference and other low-quality images. Finding the source of this phenomenon and eliminating it is not easy. That is why it is recommended to initially lay the video surveillance cable at a distance of at least 30 cm from existing power lines, and also install the recorder and cameras away from powerful electrical equipment. A high-quality cable from a reliable manufacturer with a large cross-section of cores and shielded braid will also help to minimize the possible risk of interference.

Weak power supply

Each camera, depending on the type and additional options, consumes from 200 to 500 mA. All cameras are usually connected to one power supply via a splitter or special terminal connections, but when choosing equipment yourself, you do not always choose the right model. And, for example, as a result of insufficient power of the power supply, the image may disappear (primarily for the most distant cameras). Also, in the dark, as is known, the cameras switch to night mode and the IR illumination turns on. If the power supply is insufficient, the image will be dark and it is unlikely that you will be able to discern anything on it. In this case, there are two solutions - replacing the power supply with a more powerful one, or using several power supplies. It is also important to note that ready-made video surveillance kits are initially free from this problem, since all the components in them are selected by professionals.

Rejection of new equipment

Our company, due to the fact that it ships goods throughout Russia, checks all equipment before sending it to the end consumer. This is simply cheaper than paying for its return transportation from Vladivostok to Moscow. But most companies do not do this, which means there is a risk of receiving new equipment with a factory defect. Also, despite even the best packaging, there is a risk of damage to the camera or recorder during transportation.

For example, the most common problems in a video camera are a malfunction of the matrix (manufacturing defect or breakage upon impact) and IR illumination (manufacturing defect or damage during transportation of the connector/cable connecting to the main board).

What do you need to remember?

After purchasing a technical product, you should make sure it works, if possible, testing all the functionality it contains. If the equipment does not function properly, you should contact the seller and arrange for a return or replacement of the product. You will find all the necessary information about the procedure for return, replacement and their deadlines in Articles 18-22 of the Law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights”.

Broken connection cord (signal or power)

If the power cable or video cable breaks, the image disappears. In order not to confuse a break with a camera failure, it is important to know that if any of the cables are damaged, the screen will display the message “Signal Loss” (or something similar), and if the camcorder malfunctions, the screen will simply be black without any inscriptions .

What needs to be done?

It is enough to connect a known working camera and thus determine the cause of the failure. If the equipment works, the camera is broken; if not, the problem is in the cable or video input of the recorder. You can check the operation of the latter by connecting a camera from an adjacent channel to the problematic video input.

In addition, you can “ring” the cable to determine a break or short circuit (short circuit). To check for a short circuit, use a tester to check the contact between the cable winding and the central core (for a video cable), plus and minus (for a power cable). If there is contact, then we can confidently talk about a short circuit. In this case, a complete cable replacement will be required. To diagnose a break, the braid and the central core (or “plus” and “minus”) are closed on one side, and a tester is connected on the other. If K3 does not show, it means the cable is broken and should be replaced.

Use of outdated equipment that is incompatible with the technical means used

There are situations when new equipment may not work with existing equipment. For example, a new camera may not work with the recorder. Unfortunately, recently, due to a significant increase in the number of types of equipment (AHD, CVI, TVI, HD-SDI, IP, etc.), this situation is not uncommon. There is only one way out in this situation - to return or replace the product in the store, and then study in detail the capabilities of the existing equipment and the parameters of the new equipment, or contact its seller/manufacturer for advice.

Incorrect camera settings

Another reason for malfunctions in the video surveillance system is a broken focus setting. For PTZ cameras with optical zoom and varifocal cameras, its adjustment is quite simple. For cameras with a fixed lens (in other words, when the camera has a fixed viewing angle), to adjust the focus you need to disassemble the camera, loosen the lens fixing screw and do the necessary manipulations. After this, the camera will produce a clear picture. It is not recommended to disassemble the camera body during the warranty period, so it is better to carry out such manipulations at the service center of the seller/manufacturer.

Adverse weather conditions, lens contamination

Over time, precipitation can cause the camera lens to become dirty. This can also be done by insects and spiders, which are attracted by the camera’s IR illumination and the heat emanating from it. All this is inevitable, so the only solution to the problem is to periodically clean the camera lens.

CCTV camera lens fogging

This problem most often plagues inexpensive CCTV cameras several years after the start of use. The explanation for this is quite simple - over time, the tightness is broken and during periods of high humidity or when there is a sharp change in temperature, outdoor video cameras can fog up.

What needs to be done?

To solve the problem, you should use a sealant, isolating all potential places where moisture can enter (precisely recognizing a leaky place can be problematic, since the hole may be of a minimal size). Another great moisture absorbent is silica gel. The sachets of this product must be placed inside the chamber.

Problems with the monitor

The monitor stopping working is a fairly common occurrence.

To understand the issue, you should try connecting a different monitor or using a different video output of the recorder (for example, HDMI instead of VGA). If another monitor works, then the original version requires replacement. Same with video output.

In addition, you should take simple, but, as practice shows, very effective steps:

  • Check whether the monitor is turned on at all by pressing the POWER button.
  • Check whether the power cable is connected on both sides. It will not be superfluous to check the video signal cable. For example, with a VGA cable, the reason for the lack of signal is often bent pins on the plug. Due to the fact that they break easily, they should be unbent with extreme caution.
  • Make sure there is no problem with the resolution on the video output of the recorder. If messages such as “OUT OF RANGE”, “Out of range”, etc. pop up on the monitor, this may indicate that the resolution in the video recorder menu was set higher than what the monitor supports. You can solve the problem by using a special button for changing the resolution or a combination of buttons on the front panel of the recorder (information about this is usually in the instructions), or by connecting to the recorder via the Internet, change the resolution to a lower one in its menu, or connect a monitor that supports a higher resolution .
  • Check the functionality of the monitor, if possible by connecting it to another video source, for example, a laptop or system unit.

If you can’t determine the cause yourself or it’s not possible, it’s better to contact a specialist.

Malfunction or incorrect operation of the recorder

Most breakdowns in the operation of the recorder can only be repaired by specialists. But in some cases you can do this yourself. For example, constant reboots may indicate a hard drive failure. To check this, you need to disconnect it from the recorder's motherboard and turn on the system. If the reboots stop, you should replace the hard drive.

Sometimes the cause of incorrect operation of the recorder may be a malfunction of the internal battery (usually CR2032, CR2016 or CR1220), as a result of which the settings made are reset or the date and time are periodically reset. Just replace the battery and everything will be fine.

After a power surge, situations occur when the recorder freezes when loading or emits a continuous beep. In most cases, this indicates a malfunction in its firmware. Most manufacturers have special recovery files for this case (you need to request them from the manufacturer or seller), which must be loaded onto a flash drive, connected to the recorder, and then powered up. If successful, the recorder will boot from the flash drive and then restore its operation. If the problem persists, it will only be possible to solve it in a service center using special equipment and software.

In some cases, a continuous beep at startup or, conversely, a complete absence of any signals indicates a malfunction of the power supply. It is worth trying to connect a power supply to the recorder, for example, from cameras, making sure that its output current-voltage characteristics correspond to the required values. If the recorder starts up successfully with the new power supply, then the old one must be replaced.

Hard drive problems

Hard drive problems do not happen very often, usually once every 2-5 years. You can determine if your hard drive has failed on your own. The recorder will not recognize it at startup or will display a message indicating that it is missing.

Other facts indicate problems with the hard drive, for example:

  • periodic recorder reboots;
  • lack of an archive of records (full or partial);
  • presence of extraneous sounds from the disk (knocks, clicks).

What needs to be done to solve the problem?

If there is important information on the disk, and it stops working, technicians from service centers specializing in data recovery can try to help solve the problem. If the hard drive operates intermittently, you should replace it without waiting for complete failure.

Problems with Internet settings, poor connection

Assistance in setting up an Internet connection is usually provided by the installation organization (if you used their installation services) or technical support specialists from the equipment manufacturer (this assistance option is usually provided free of charge).

If the remote connection to the video surveillance system was stable, and at some point stopped working, then you should first make sure that you have access to the Internet. Temporary technical work by the provider and late payment are the most popular reasons for its absence. To check, you can, for example, connect a device via wire or Wi-Fi to the same router that the recorder is connected to. If you have Internet access, the next step is to check that the network settings on the recorder and the network equipment you are using are correct. If everything is in order here, then you should check the reliability of the connection, the integrity of the network cable and, if necessary, re-crimp the 8P8C (RJ45) connectors.

Sometimes it happens

In addition to those already listed, there are unexplained reasons for malfunctions of cameras and recorders. These include problems with the picture that suddenly arise and also suddenly disappear. To avoid such unpleasant moments, you should limit the circle of people allowed to work with the video surveillance system, update the necessary components and software over time, and not use equipment from unknown manufacturers.

By purchasing, you can be sure of the uninterrupted operation of the equipment and forget about many of the problems listed above. If any malfunction does occur, our specialists are always ready to help you figure it out and fix the problem. UControl technical support is provided free of charge throughout the entire period of use of the equipment.
