Apple introduced three new devices - the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, the Apple Watch () smart watch, and the Apple Pay payment function. The presentation took place at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts, where Steve Jobs showed off the first Mac 30 years ago.
Both next-generation iPhones have seen substantial gains in screen size, size, and weight. If the iPhone 5S had a display diagonal of 4 inches and a weight of 112 grams, then the iPhone 6 is equipped with a 4.7-inch display, and the iPhone 6 Plus and even more - a diagonal of 5.5 "(devices like the 6 Plus are often called "phablets", from the addition two words Phone + Tablet (phone + tablet) Smartphones have become heavier to 129 and 172 grams, respectively, although the thickness of the case has been reduced to 6.9 and 7.1 mm (the thickness of the iPhone 5S is 7.6 mm).
Both "sixes" use Retina HD screens. They have higher contrast and wider viewing angles than the iPhone 5S. The display resolution of the iPhone 6 is 1334x750 pixels (326 dpi density), the iPhone 6 Plus is 1920x1080 pixels (401 dpi). The first has 38% more pixels than the 5S, the second has as much as 185%, that is, almost three times more. Horizontally, the home screen of smartphones accommodates, as before, 4 icons, and vertically - one row more.
The power button has moved to the right edge, the volume keys have an oblong shape. The PV module protrudes slightly from the housing.
To make it more convenient to operate with one hand with a large iPhone 6 Plus model, the developers went for some tricks.
First, there's a new gesture called reachability. By double-clicking the Home button, the screen slides down, allowing you to easily reach the top buttons with your thumb.
Secondly, in landscape orientation, the 6 Plus phablet switches to “tablet” mode, rearranging the layout of interface elements in accordance with the configuration of free space.
Thirdly, the keyboard has several additional buttons, which, in particular, allow you to copy-paste text fragments.
The sixth iPhones are based on the second-generation Apple A8 64-bit processor. It is 13% smaller than the A7, manufactured in a 20nm process and has 2 billion transistors. Overall, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the A8's performance is 20% faster and graphics up to 50% faster than the previous model.
The M8's "motion co-processor" has also been updated to distinguish between sports activities. That is, now the processor feels the difference between running and cycling. In addition, a new sensor has appeared - a barometer, which perceives changes in pressure and thus determines when a person is going uphill or going down stairs.
Battery life hasn't changed drastically. It is promised that the iPhone 6 will withstand 14 hours of talk time within the 3G network, and the iPhone 6 Plus - up to 24 hours. When playing a video, the first should work without recharging for 11 hours, the second - 14 hours.
Both models received a new chipset that increases the data transfer rate within LTE networks up to 150 Mbps (against 100 Mbps for the iPhone 5/5S). There is also support for VoLTE technology (Voice over LTE, voice over LTE), on which the company "collaborates with many operators around the world" (including SK Telecom, T-Mobile, AT & T, Verizon, etc.). Wi-Fi data transfer speed has tripled (802.11ac standard). You can start a wireless call and continue your 3G conversation without dropping the connection.
Let's move on to what is directly related to the subject of our site - the photomodule. Apple developers did not pursue the number of megapixels of the main iSight camera, leaving it the same - 8 megapixels. It promises to improve the quality of shooting due to a new generation sensor (sensor elements 1.5 microns) with backlight and Focus Pixels technology, in which autofocus is twice as fast. The lens has five lenses and f / 2.2 aperture. The iPhone 6 Plus has Optical Image Stabilization (a first for iPhones), a key photographic difference between the two 6s.
Video shooting can go in Full HD format 1080p (at 30 or 60 frames per second), slow motion is also implemented (at 120 or 240 fps). Panorama shooting mode allows you to take pictures with a resolution of 43 megapixels. Improved recognition of faces, smiles and blinks.
The secondary FaceTime camera is still 1.2MP and can shoot HD video (720p).
The Touch ID fingerprint sensor has remained unchanged, although third-party applications have now gained access to it. According to Tip Cook, there are over 1.3 million apps in the App Store today. Last summer, at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, the company announced 1.2 million. Applications that were originally built for a 4-inch screen continue to work, scaling to larger displays. At the same time, if desired, developers can optimize them for Retina HD and for "tablet" mode in the iPhone 6 Plus.
Until the end of the year, new items will be sold in 115 countries. In some of them, pre-orders open this Friday, September 12, and shipments begin next week, on the 19th. In the US, the cost of the iPhone 5S has dropped to $99, and the 8-gigabyte model 5C in a plastic case is now being distributed free of charge when concluding a two-year contract with the operator.
In the Russian online Apple store, orders for new iPhones will begin on September 26. Both models will be available in three colors: silver, gold and space grey.
The cost of the iPhone 6 with 16 GB of memory will be 31,990 rubles, with 64 GB - 36,990 rubles, with a 128 GB drive - 41,990 rubles.
Phablet iPhone 6 Plus will be sold for 36,990 rubles (16 GB), 41,990 rubles (64 GB) and 46,990 rubles (128 GB).
iOS 8 operating system will be installed on the new iPhones. It will be available for download to other i-devices in a week - on September 17th. The eight can be installed on the iPhone (from 4S), on all iPad models (except the first one) and on the first generation iPod touch player.
After all, there is a secret department at Apple that adds a little magic to the box with every new product. It would seem that the design is a year old, plastic strips of antennas, a bulging camera, a low screen resolution and a whole bunch of dubious software and hardware limitations ... But here is a pink color, a high-tech screen, improved cameras - and you are holding a new smartphone in your hands and thinking: “Wow! »
As is usually the case in the second year, the iPhone with the prefix "es" has not changed much. The box and delivery set are ordinary, except that now a spectacular “live” picture with a fish flaunts on the screen of a hand-drawn smartphone. Inside, the traditionally mediocre EarPods, Lightning cable, charger and a small stack of carefully folded waste paper are nothing new. It would be completely boring if we had a gray, golden or silver smartphone. Fortunately, six es is pink.
In terms of color, pink metal looks great. As well as with the golden model, suspicions about the dubious appearance of the device turned out to be unfounded. The noble pig shade will surely appeal to girls more, however, in male hands, the “sixth esca” will look appropriate. However, not in everyone. The owner of a pink iPhone should be confident enough in himself and pay attention to his appearance so as not to look like he took the smartphone from his girlfriend and is very shy about this event in his life.
The main change in the new iPhones is the 3D Touch screen technology. At the presentation, Apple said that with the advent of pressure recognition, the importance can be put on a par with multitouch in the first generation iPhone. Now the usual screen touches and slightly stronger pressing are responsible for different actions, both in standard applications and in third-party programs.
Context menu when clicking on the application icon. For example, before launching the Camera app, you can select a selfie, photo, or video, and you can launch Instagram from the upload picture, view activity feed, search, or private messages screen.
- Content preview. For example, in the Photos, Instagram, Safari applications, you can view the content in a pop-up window with a strong press, and if you press even harder, open it in full screen.
- Content recognition. For example, you can save phone numbers from messages or quickly add appointments to your Calendar.
3D Touch allows you to save a little time when performing familiar actions, but it takes some getting used to. It's important to note that even for Apple Watch owners with Force Touch technology, pressure detection on the iPhone 6s will take practice. If the watch has only one degree of pressing force, then there are more of them in the smartphone. In addition, there is always a chance, instead of launching the context menu on the icon, to activate the home screen editing mode or press too hard to preview the content and expand the pop-up to full screen. By the way, I want to throw a small stone in Apple's garden for the location of the 3D Touch settings. They are located in the Accessibility section and allow you to change the sensitivity of pressure recognition. But who would guess to look for settings in this section?
Since we are talking about iOS 9, it is worth saying that the operating system for iPhone 6s is practically the same as the version for iPhone 6. All changes are related only to 3D Touch technology: “live” wallpapers, “live” photos in the Camera application, context menus with a strong press and the ability to strongly press on the left side of the screen to switch between running applications. As for the performance of the device, as always, there are no complaints about this. The new A9 processor and 2 GB of RAM provide smooth operation of the interface, excellent performance in heavy applications and games. However, the power of mobile devices has now reached a level where the increase is practically not felt compared to the previous generation - the times when there was a huge difference between smartphones are in the past. But the battery life, as always, leaves much to be desired. The iPhone 6s has a slightly smaller battery, but due to the optimization of hardware and software, owners can count on the same time without recharging. I wish it was longer though.
As for the camera, on the front side of the device there is now a 5 megapixel module without autofocus, on the back - 12 megapixel with a dual-tone flash, as well as optical photo and video stabilization in the iPhone 6s Plus. Since such a fashion for selfies has gone, I'll start with the first. Now, finally, owners of Apple smartphones will not be so ashamed to publish self-portraits on Instagram. The sharpness, contrast and detailing of photos taken with the front camera has noticeably increased. Even if this module does not reach some competitors in terms of technical characteristics, the pictures are good. Separately, it is worth mentioning a kind of flash for the front camera - in low light at the time of shooting, the screen becomes white, yellowish or flesh-colored, slightly illuminating the face and helping to more accurately select the white balance. The main camera has also become better during the day, but in low light conditions it still loses ground to competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy S6. Let's just say, not the best camera on the market, but the easiest to use and versatile.
