The MTS set-top box is a compact device for watching digital TV from a service provider in HD quality. All that is required from the user is to correctly connect the receiver to the TV and configure the TV set-top box and TV channels.

The user can independently install and configure the MTS set-top box using the instructions for connecting equipment.
The first thing to do is to connect the receiver to the TV set. Both devices must be turned off. We recommend using an HDMI cable for the best picture quality. If there is no such connector, you should inspect the equipment, find the same port and purchase the appropriate cable.

It can be SCARD, RCA (aka "tulip"), etc. On the TV set-top box, the wire must be connected to the connector marked "OUT", on the TV set - "IN".

After the cable is connected, you need to turn on the equipment, go to the list of signal sources on the TV panel and go to the input with the connected TV set-top box. An image from the TV receiver will appear on the screen. If this does not happen, you need to double-check how the cable is connected, and also make sure that the required connector is correctly installed on the TV.
Next, you need to configure. First, the display will show the choice of language, the default is Russian. You need to click "OK". If this window does not appear, the receiver needs to be reset to factory defaults.

To do this, go to "Menu" - "System settings" - "Factory settings" and perform a reset. If asked for a pin code, the default is "0000".

After installing the language, the system will prompt you to select the screen format. The default is “4: 3”, you can assign “16: 9”.
The next step is to search for cable channels. It will be launched automatically, the user needs to click "OK" and wait for the process to complete. The receiver should find more than 150 TV channels.

If there are fewer of them, this may be for a number of reasons: the filter is working (you need to contact the provider to remove it), the MTS digital television works in the house only partially, or the antenna cable is damaged or a splitter is used.

Problems with the cable or the installed splitter are also reported as noise or interference, and sometimes the image freezes.
To sort the TV channels on the MTS TV set-top box, you need to “ Menu" go to " Channel settings", select " Sorting", and then - " Sorting MTS».
Now you need to update the software. It is necessary to sequentially select "Menu" - "System settings" - "Software update". Then enter the pin code "0000" and wait for the update of the TV receiver.

After the update is completed, the MTS set-top box will be rebooted. You need to install a smart card. The slot is located on the right side, the smart card is carefully removed from the fixing frame beforehand. It should be placed with the "contact area" down, and with a beveled corner outward and closer to the back of the TV receiver.
Next, you should check how the smart card is recognized by the device. To do this, in the "Menu" you need to sequentially press " System settings» – « Conditional access system» – « Smart card status».

If it is defined correctly, its status will be D04-4. If a message with the code E06-4 appears in the status (Smartcard failure), this means an error. This could be due to improper installation (incomplete or wrong side) or a broken smart card. To eliminate the error, you need to pull out and reinstall the card without leaving the menu until the status D04-4 is displayed.
The receiver is considered configured after the smart card is correctly inserted into the seat.

Setting up a universal remote

The remote control from the MTS TV set-top box is universal, i.e. it can be configured to control the TV so that you can use one remote control to work with all the equipment, and not several.

This requires:

    1. Place both remote controls with infrared sensors opposite each other at a distance of about three centimeters.
    2. The remote control from the MTS TV set-top box has programmable buttons that can be taught commands for working with the TV (adjusting the sound, switching channels, etc.). To start the training mode, you need to press the button with the gear emblem on the remote control and hold it until the LED on the side of it lights up continuously.
    3. The remote control is in learning mode for up to 15 seconds. At this time, one of the buttons to be taught should be pressed. The LED will flash. Now on the remote control from the TV receiver, you must press and hold the button, the functions of which will have to be performed by the learning key. If the command is transmitted and received successfully, the indicator will blink three times, after which it will turn solid again. You can go to the next button, the sequence of actions is the same.
    4. To complete the tutorial, you need to press the gear key again. The indicator will go out.
    5. Now it is important to check how the universal remote control controls the TV receiver. If any button does not work correctly, the training process must be repeated.

Channel setup

To configure the channels, press "Menu", then "Channel editor" - "Channel list".

  • to block: select a channel from the list, press the yellow key, enter the pin-code, the image of the lock will appear next to the name. To start this TV channel, you will need to enter a pin code;
  • to add to favorites: select a channel, press the red key, a heart icon will be displayed next to the name, and the TV channel itself will appear in the “Favorites” list.
  • to edit, use the blue button.

To remove a channel from the list, you need to select it, press the red key, confirm execution.
To move a TV channel in the list, use the green (up) or yellow (down) buttons.
To rename a channel, you need to press the blue button, and then select letters on the keyboard that appears. To delete a character entered by mistake, use the yellow key, to change the input language - red, to save changes - green.

Is it possible to replace the remote

The MTS universal TV decoder remote control cannot completely replace the TV remote control, because only the main buttons can be transferred to it - volume control, channel switching, etc. The rest will be available only from the main remote control from the TV receiver.
If the remote control from the TV set-top box fails, it will be possible to purchase it only through the service center. Another solution is to contact a specialized store, where you can pick up a similar remote control that matches the original one for most of the famous TV receivers, including MTS.

Error codes for MTS consoles

For MTS TV set-top boxes, a system of codes with errors is provided, which makes it possible to determine what happened to the device and quickly fix the problem.

  • E06-4. Smart card error. The reason may be improper installation, dirty contacts. You need to reinstall it or clear the track with contacts;
  • E16-4. There is no money on the subscriber's account or a channel for which a subscription was not purchased is turned on. You should replenish your account or switch to a paid channel package;
  • E33-4. Outdated software. To update, you need to open the "Menu", go to "System settings" and select the software update. Then restart the receiver;
  • E120-4, E30-4, E19-4. The set-top box did not work for a long time or rebooted, after which it did not have time to receive data for decrypting TV channels. It is necessary to let the TV set-top box stand on for half an hour, while the antenna cable must be connected.

Conclusion
It is very easy to connect and configure the MTS TV receiver to watch digital channels if you know the correct procedure. In addition to the receiver itself, the user can program its remote control to control the TV, and change the list of TV channels in accordance with their preferences.

These operations are performed similarly on different TV set-top boxes, more information can be found in the instruction manual.

In our country, there are several providers providing satellite television services. MTS has recently entered the demanded market niche. Due to attractive conditions for the purchase and installation of equipment, the company manages to connect new subscribers every day in the regions within the satellite coverage area.

The equipment is offered by the operator himself, it is possible to purchase it in specialized stores. New subscribers need to install a satellite dish with a converter, as well as connect and configure an MTS set-top box.

Before puzzling about connecting satellite TV from MTS, you need to make sure that the place of residence is within the coverage area of the provider's satellites. You can use the map, where different shades of red indicate signal levels. An antenna of a certain diameter should be selected for the appropriate coverage level according to the principle: low level (light red color on the map) - larger dish diameter.

Another important technical aspect to consider is - choosing a place to install a satellite dish so that the digital signal is not obstructed in its path to the receiving antenna. It also determines the direction in which the antenna must be rotated in order to "see" the satellite signals directly.

As for the choice of equipment for satellite TV, in addition to an antenna of a suitable diameter with a converter, depending on the TV receiver, the subscriber needs to purchase an appropriate device.

  1. CAM module- this option can be used only for some models of modern TVs equipped with a DVB-S tuner.
  2. Interactive set-top box operating in full range of options for viewing interactive television in the coverage area with 3G MTS signals.
  3. Universal equipment - satellite box MTS... This linear HD - equipment is compatible with the majority of TVs used by Russians.

Overview of applications for setting up a satellite dish

Master-tuners of satellite TV equipment use a special device for the correct installation of antennas, which costs a lot of money. If you are able and willing to install and configure the cymbal on your own, you can use:

  • mobile application, which, by means of GPS and a camera, determines and indicates the direction to the satellite relative to the proposed installation site;
  • GPS mode - programs, which calculates the angles of rotation of the plate and converter according to a certain algorithm;
  • setup wizard on the map on the website ru.

Several special applications have been created to assist in the correct setup of the satellite dish. Some of them are distributed free of charge through official app stores, some require a certain payment. The most commonly used GPS programs are:

  • SatFinder, Satellite Director is free to install and use;

  • Multifid, Dishpointer Pro - paid mobile software.

DishPointer Pro v 2.2.2, Android

Each program has its own advantages and disadvantages, but they cope with the main task - help in choosing the direction of the antenna to the satellite. The detailed instructions for finding the location of a satellite and turning the dish toward it may vary.

The MTS company on its official website in the "Satellite TV" tab offered the opportunity to calculate the necessary settings for the map. The subscriber is required to go to the "Settings" menu item and enter the address of the location. The system will display the calculated indicators and on the map will show with a beam the direction to the satellite relative to the specified address.

Communication of antenna, receiver and TV receiver

The next step after installing the antenna is the communication of devices with each other using cables. The cable coming from the satellite dish is connected to the receiver's antenna jack. To connect an MTS set-top box to a TV, an HDMI cable is most often used: most modern TVs are equipped with a corresponding input. If there is no HDMI output on the TV, then, alternatively, depending on the availability of connectors, you can use:

  • TV SCART output and corresponding SCART-RC cable;

  • RCA outputs and RCA cable (tulips);

  • coaxial TV cable 75 Ohm.

For example, to connect the s2 3900 set-top box offered by MTS to a Samsung TV, you can use an HDMI or RCA cable. This attachment is equipped with corresponding sockets. Which cable to use depends on the TV model.

If the subscriber has two TVs, and there is no technical possibility of installing an additional satellite dish, you can use the following communication options for TV receivers with one antenna:

    • by using a cable signal splitter (crab, splitter);
  • by installing a converter with two outputs on a plate;
  • through a multiswitch that transmits a signal to one or more receivers.

Important! For all variants, a receiver is assumed for each TV.

In the first connection option, you will need to purchase digital cable splitter with one input and two outputs with a bandwidth of 5-2400 mNz, as well as a connection method corresponding to the thickness of the cable: screw clamp, thread, coaxial socket, by soldering.

Advice! When choosing a splitter, you should pay attention to the signal attenuation rate: the lower the better.

You should also take a responsible attitude towards determining the location of the tee, trying to minimize the distance from the place of dividing the cable signal to TVs in order to avoid signal attenuation.

When choosing the second option, you need to purchase converter equipped with 2 outputs(there are more complex modifications with 4 and 8 outputs) and the required number of meters of cable. Installation with this method is more complicated: two cables are brought into the room from the antenna. Also, this option is more expensive, but eliminates the effect of signal attenuation.

In the third case, you need to purchase a connection multiswitch. This is a device that allows you to receive a signal from one or more satellites and transmit it to several independent set-top boxes. The method is relevant for large country houses and mini-hotels to connect more than 8 TVs.

Set-top box activation and channel setup

After the physical connection of satellite equipment to the TV, you need to complete the service activation process. It is assumed that an MTS smart or SIM card is inserted into the slot of the set-top box. Upon activation, the provider connects the contract of a specific subscriber with the ID - the number of his equipment, and the decryption key of the encrypted channels is sent to the card. After activation, the set-top box decodes the specified channel package provided for under the contract for a certain period of time, and then controls the payment.

There are several activation options: through a dealer network (the equipment was purchased from a dealer), a call to the MTS contact service, sending an SMS message from any operator number to 9909 indicating the card number and set-top box ID.

When you turn on the activated satellite equipment for the first time, you need to configure the MTS TV set-top box. After turning on the set-top box, you should wait for a while until the system boots up and the reception of signals is established. Next, you need to turn on the TV and translate it to AV or HDM signal reception mode(depending on the cable connection used between the receiver and the receiver).

The system will offer the Initial Installation menu. Here you need to select the image parameters, the menu language, and, if necessary, you can reconfigure other default parameters. To search for channels, you need to use the STB remote control or the MTS STB control buttons without a remote control to move to the "Start Search" menu item and initiate its execution (press the corresponding button on the remote control or the STB panel). In the process of searching a list of found channels is formed. In the list generated by the system, the user can configure the channels so that they follow in the sequence he needs. For this, the corresponding functionality of the TV set-top box ("Program Editor") and the remote control are used.

In the "Settings" menu there is a function "Basic settings", with which you can set the clock and time zones, as well as set the time to turn off the STB. There is also other functionality with regards to the choice of the type and order of sorting channels, and so on.

Installation, activation and configuration of satellite equipment is a laborious process that requires certain knowledge and skills, in case of insufficiency of which it is better to resort to the help of specialists.

Cheap with current promotion. Everything you need is included. Receiver s9-3900.

Minuses

It is installed more difficult than the well-known tricolor competitor. Expensive tariff offered by the operator. The receiver does not have Pan & Scan mode. There is no way to watch free channels from the same satellite, just what the provider provided.

Review

I specially took kit # 190, since it offers the s9-3900 receiver - one of the two most modern for MTS. Yes, it turns on longer (about 20-30 seconds from pressing the button to the start of viewing), I read that there are a lot of glitches, although, to be honest, in fact, I have not encountered any problems so far. But on this receiver, all the channels offered by MTS are available (except for UHD, although this may be a weak signal), including Disney, without which I would not buy a satellite at all. The bundled package has a tariff and includes channels from three packages: basic, children and adult. In the contact center I was told that you can change the tariff to just "basic" only by writing a statement in the MTS salon. And given that the "adult" package is simply ridiculous (someone really pays extra for general tariffs), you will have to take a walk and change the tariff. The installation is not very difficult - I calculated on the MTS website (in advance) which side the plate would be, hung it outside the window, but then the help of my family was required - along the line built by the application in the smartphone to the satellite I oriented, but I got "0". So I had to tell my family, and I turned and tilted the antenna. Tricolors are much easier to catch, I must say. I replaced the complete converter with a multiport one, extended the second cable to the kitchen, installed a cheap receiver and got free channels in the kitchen :) In total, about 20 unique ones, about 40, taking into account the "hour" and HD versions. It is a pity, but there is no First, Russia and NTV for free, but there is TNT, Friday, 2x2, Zvezda, etc. So, by paying extra, you can get a kind of multiroom without additional subscription fees.
