Review and testing of the Acer Iconia W700 tablet. Hybrid Tablet - Acer Iconia Tab W700 Video Review and Unboxing

    Quite long battery life, performance, form factor.

    2 years ago

    Nice box and the equipment itself deserves respect; - small and lightweight power supply; - long battery life; - the speed of their sleep (namely sleep, like a normal computer) and the system boot time; - build quality - no backlash, no creaks - monolith; - I consider the optimally selected parameters (stone / memory); - the quality of the screen itself - the viewing angles and the quality of the picture itself (dirt is easily removed; - this is Windows - unless you need another android; - an excellent cover (analogous to apple ones), with a choice of three stand positions.

    2 years ago

    Excellent screen, super color rendering, large viewing angles. Good sound Functionality (vin8, intel Ay3) Convenient keyboard cover.

    2 years ago

    An excellent device in all respects and the merit of this is in a full-fledged Win on which you can install AutoCAD, 1C, Bank and Microsoft office (including Outlook, OneNote) to which, unfortunately, there is still no alternative. I have been using it for work for the third year already.

    In general, there are many advantages. For example, it replaces my ordinary PC. The processor is just right, excellent quality, easy to use outdoors. The permission is right. I was pleased with the presence of Bluetooth. The eighth Windows turned out to be very convenient (as it was not littered on the Internet), probably more convenient than the Seven. Pulls all the games, but with brakes. Three USB ports in the docking station are no less pleasing than the presence of Bluetooth. The keyboard is of high quality (it's a pity that there are no buttons f1, f2, f3 ... f12 and other functional buttons, you have to hold fn down).

    Very smart and quite reliable. Very pleasant to the eye and to the touch. Excellent screen resolution. Perfectly catches wi-fi, without disconnections from its side. The presence of HDMI - perfectly connects to the TV.

    There are really a lot of pluses, speed, windows 8, equipment, quality. All the disadvantages listed by me and other users are compensated by the speed of work. It is quite suitable for work, I personally use Sony vegans 11 on it without problems.

    2 years ago

    Super gadget! 1. Windows 8 is the best solution among mobile and desktop systems. Works great, very fast and smooth, plus all the features of a regular laptop. As an excellent tablet, IE amazes with the speed of work, in general, the system is very well adapted for ordinary surfing the Internet, watching movies-toys, good applications, perfectly integrated with the system. As a workstation, it is excellent, the i3-3217U is an excellent processor, the Touch-mode of Office 2013 is quite suitable, all software from previous versions of Windows works well. 2. Extensibility. One port on the tablet, three on the station (I also have a replicator). As a result, at home, my tablet is connected to a powerful external sound system, hard drive, keyboard, printer and external monitor. How many USB ports are there on the iPad? :-) 3. Screen. IPS-matrix, ex.

    The location of the power button and volume rocker is often confused, you just have to grope.
    with active cooling (even on i3).
    - there is no way to increase the amount of memory;
    - as already mentioned - raw firewood for Wi-Fi from the box;
    - often because of one flush, the cooler starts to warm up and the cooler turns on (in the future it may clog up and be more noisy);
    - no gprs modem (sim card) on the road would be very helpful.

    2 years ago

    Both cameras are budget ... the quality is appropriate ... the back is quite frail, the front one for Skype will do ... taking into account the weight, configuration and the fact that there is no modem and navigator, this is more a laptop with a cool screen and a small hard disk drive, rather than a tablet like a stub )))
    After the update, Windows began to dull ...
    Because of the high resolution, everything is very small on the screen, farsightedness and a bluetooth mouse saves me, which saves the rest, I have no idea ... I suppose a magnifying glass)))

    2 years ago

    A few months ago, the screen began to peel off, bubbles formed under the touch glass, fortunately along the edges. Acer has not commented on this in any way.

    2 years ago

    Heavy (but what did I want from a tablet pc?). The cameras are not very good (for Scoop it will do). Small memory (saved by portable hard drive). Because of the purchase of this tablet, I am considered to have gone. That's all the disadvantages.

    2 years ago

    Only 1 USB 3.0
    - battery
    - heavy
    - no memory expansion slot

    2 years ago

    Perhaps the only drawback is the weight of the tablet in the case - the keyboard. But for me it is insignificant.

    2 years ago

    A couple of months after the purchase (it was in November 2013), bubbles began to appear at the edges of the screen. And today (May 2015) there are only a lot more of them. In addition, it has been non-working since the beginning of the year - Windows has flown with all the data after official updates.
    Very heavy - you can't take it with you for a walk or in a cafe.
    The keyboard cover that came with the kit was unreliable and suffered very quickly from cat claws. In addition, he does not fully dress - the feeling that he is 3 mm small, and with him it is inconvenient to press the lock and sound buttons.
    Weak speaker.
    It discharges heavily, so you can only actively use it when charging.

    2 years ago

    The weight, with the cover is really heavy, but what a power, and it can still be seen eating 20 gigs from the screw.

    2 years ago

    1. The pre-installed version of the system from Acer is terrible. Installed clean Win 8 Pro x64.
    2. Screen resolution is good, but in desktop mode it is difficult to do anything with your fingers.
    3. Very cropped keyboard. The F-row is missing, for many actions Fn is needed, for some reason Windows 8 buttons are duplicated with Fn + a number, although they can be called with the usual Win + C, Win + I, etc.
    4. The idea of a docking station is not as cool as it seemed to me before the purchase, plus the ports are hidden far behind. It also does not allow the use of wide microHDMI adapters.

ICONIA devices have been buzzing with users since 2010, when a 14-inch tablet-laptop with two touch screens was released. And at CES 2011, this original device received the title of "Best New Product of the Year". Of course, for the next two years, Acer did not sit idly by. So, in the spring of 2012 at the Computex 2012 exhibition, two tablets were presented: the first ICONIA W510, the second - ICONIA W700. Both are based on the Windows 8 operating system and offer some pretty impressive performance. Unlike the W510, the Acer ICONIA W700 has an 11.6-inch Full HD display and can be equipped with a Bluetooth keyboard rather than a keyboard dock. The set of essential accessories is complemented by a docking station with three USB ports and a leather case.

Design

The case of Acer ICONIA W700, as for a tablet, is somewhat bulky. Perhaps it seems so because of the wide silver frame under the display and the bezels on the sides. The back of the tablet is made entirely of aluminum, except for a thin strip of plastic; both materials are slightly rough to prevent the tablet from slipping out of your hands. The top of the ICONIA W700 is durable Gorilla Glass. Above the display is the lens of the built-in webcam, and below it is the Windows button.

The rest of the tablet's design is pretty straightforward. The only thing that makes the model so attractive is the Acer logo and the name of the ICONIA line. The first one can be seen under the display and behind, and the ICONIA inscription is on the right side. The tablet has dimensions of 295x191x11.9 mm and a relatively heavy weight of 900 grams. It is he who, first of all, will cause inconvenience if you hold the tablet in your hands for a long time. But the build quality, on the contrary, pleased.

Display, sound, webcam

The ICONIA W700 uses an 11.6-inch CineCrystal Full HD display. Perhaps the advantage of the screen is not only the high resolution, but also the IPS technology, thanks to which the image on the display is perfectly visible even from the side without loss of clarity and color rendition. The viewing angles are 178 degrees. However, there are pitfalls in the resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Thus, the icons in the classic Windows 7 mode will be relatively small, which will cause difficulties with navigation, the text may also seem not very large.

The relatively high brightness level of the screen will allow you to work comfortably outdoors and indoors. Moreover, using the built-in light sensor, the backlight brightness will be adjusted automatically. By the way, despite the glossy display, there will be not so many reflections and glare.

To the above, we add that the tablet display supports 10-point multitouch, and the sensor itself is very sensitive. With a good screen responsiveness, you can quickly complete any task.

The acoustics of the tablet are two built-in speakers. They are located on the bottom of the tablet. The volume of the Acer W700 is enough for a small room, but the overall impression of the sound remains ambiguous. When playing tracks with pronounced bass, wheezing and distortion were heard, but when choosing more pop songs, the sound seemed slightly voluminous and cleaner. By the way, the tablet has Dolby Home Theater v4 software, which allows you to choose one of the preset profiles: video, music, games, or create your own.

The tablet has two HD cameras on the front and back. The first, with a resolution of 2 megapixels, is ideal for video calls, while the main 5-megapixel Acer CrystalEye with autofocus will allow you to take pictures or shoot videos. By the way, the pictures taken with the rear camera were not very high quality (blurry and a little grainy).

Keyboard

The touch keyboard of this tablet is absolutely typical. It has a standard layout, and switching from Russian to English is also simple.

Much more interesting is the external keyboard, which easily connects to the tablet via Bluetooth and works with it regardless of whether the ICONIA W700 is connected to the docking station or not.

The keys on the island keyboard are easy to press with good tactile feedback; You won't have to get used to the layout, it is standard. Above the key block is the keyboard power button.

Performance

The device runs on 64-bit operating system Windows 8. The Acer ICONIA W700-323b4G06as tablet is equipped with a dual-core low-voltage Intel Core i3-2365M processor with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz and a 3MB L3 cache. Due to the lack of Turbo Boost technology, the operating frequency of the processor always remains the same. However, there is support for Hyper-Threading, thanks to which the Core i3-2365M can simultaneously process multiple data streams. In general, the power of this processor is enough for the smooth operation of several running programs, for example, web surfing, video playback, photo editing and others.

There is also a package with a third generation Intel Core i5-3317U processor with a frequency of 1.7 GHz and an integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card. In our configuration, the Core i3-2365M processor is complemented by an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 with support for DirectX 10.1. It copes well with tasks typical for graphics accelerators. For example, it decodes video, allows you to play with undemanding toys.

The filling is complemented by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal flash memory. The RAM is DDR3 and the SSD is connected via SATA / 300 providing bandwidth up to 3Gb / s. Unfortunately, the tablet lacks a card reader, so you won't be able to increase the amount of internal memory. Perhaps replacing the SSD with a more capacious one. However, there is a complete set ICONIA W700-53314G12as with 128 GB, so you can consider this option as well.

Ports and communications

There are no ports on the right side of the Acer ICONIA W700 tablet. Here you can see the audio jack, as well as two buttons: power on and volume control.

On the left there is Micro-HDMI, which allows you to connect the tablet to an external display and show, for example, a presentation (the kit includes a Micro-HDMI-VGA adapter). The left side also has a charging jack and a full-size USB 3.0.

In principle, one USB port should be sufficient, however, if you are going to connect a docking station, then it should be free. The docking station adds three high-speed USB 3.0 standards - enough for a flash drive, mouse or external hard drive. Although, if we analyze it as a whole, there are no significant additions here, but it would be nice to see a keyboard, network port or built-in battery (as in the W510).

By the way, the dock stand itself looks like a bracket. The tablet is inserted into it from the right side in such a way that the docking station covers the gadget on the right and bottom.

Unfortunately, the tilt angle cannot be changed, but the detachable dock stand can be inserted so that the tablet is in portrait or landscape (70 or 20 degree tilt) orientation.

As for the top edge of the tablet, there are ventilation grilles and a slider that blocks the automatic rotation of the display. Air enters the tablet through the left hole, and exits through the right hole.

But below you can see the speakers of the speaker system. Interestingly, there are special holes for them in the docking station so that nothing interferes with the sound output. By the way, a space for the Windows key has been cut out in the dock, which makes it easier to work with the device.

As you noticed, there is no card reader on any of the edges, this excludes the increase in the amount of built-in memory using a microSD card.

Among the communications of the Acer W700 tablet there is not only Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n, but also Bluetooth, but there is no 3G module. The sensors include an accelerometer and a gyroscope.

Battery

The tablet has a 3-segment 4850 mAh lithium polymer battery. The non-removable battery is charged with a 65-watt power supply in 4 hours. I was pleasantly surprised by the duration of the video playback, in which the battery charge lasted more than 7 hours (at 60% brightness and Wi-Fi on). The tablet also showed good autonomy under load - about 2 hours 30 minutes. If the ICONIA W700 is left in idle mode, the battery will last more than 9 hours.

Conclusion

The Acer ICONIA W700 tablet is quite an interesting model that attracts with its functionality and the presence of additional accessories. Also, the device can be proud of a high-quality IPS-display with high resolution and good battery life. Perhaps what the tablet really lacks is a memory card reader. The lack of a card reader is especially felt even against the background of other shortcomings, such as insufficiently good quality of photos taken with the main camera, or a bulky body,

In general, despite the official-business appearance of the tablet, it will not be left without attention either. Although it is not a fact that many will be ready to easily part with $ 1000 to buy this device.

The tablet came to us in a huge, dense package of light gray color, the dimensions of which (440x235x125 mm) would envy many shoe boxes from under boots. But before I tell you what is included in the complete kit, it is necessary to explain what options and specifications there are.

On the front panel there is a peephole of the front camera and a small indicator of its operation, at the bottom there is a mechanical button (dimensions 20x6x1mm) "Start". It's pretty tight, so you have to press hard. Designed to return to the start screen or launch a previous application.

On the lower edge there are two speakers hidden under six holes on each side and covered with a red metal grill. In the center is the hardware reset button of the device.

Standard 3.5 mm audio output for headphones, volume rocker and power button with indicator. They rise slightly above the body, are easily felt with your fingers, the stroke is small.

On the upper edge there are two grilles for the outlet of warm air (active cooling system) and a non-fixed (removed to the side and returned to its original position) mechanical screen orientation lock.

A power jack, a full-size USB port, microHDMI and a second microphone are on the left side.

On the back side, on the left, there is a camera peephole and a small LED that signals its operation.

In general, Acer W700 has a very pleasant ergonomic design, presentable appearance and cool body materials.

Display

The diagonal of the display of the tablet Acer Tab W700 is 11.6 inches. Its physical size is 256x144 mm, the aspect ratio is 16x9, the resolution is quite high for a similar diagonal - 1920x1080 pixels, while the density is 189 pixels per inch. It uses a high quality CineCrystal IPS matrix. The sensitivity and calibration accuracy are at a high level, the touch layer works out up to 10 simultaneous touches.

The viewing angles are maximum, the picture is not distorted at all, the brightness remains practically unchanged even under significant tilts of the screen. Brightness is adjustable in a wide range: from about 30 cd / m2 to 340 cd / m2. Naturally, there is a light sensor that adjusts the brightness quite smoothly and quickly. The contrast is approximately 950: 1.

All screen settings are familiar to Windows.

Battery

The tablet has a 3-cell 4850 mAh lithium polymer (Li-Pol) battery. The maximum power supply is 65 W. The developer does not provide any data on autonomy. I used the tablet in different modes with different screen brightness. On average, the tablet “lived” for about 10 hours: the brightness was 50%, the synchronization of mail and twitter was turned on, every hour for 20-30 minutes I browsed the sites, used the menu, launched office documents. In the Internet surfing mode, the device worked for about 8 hours - this is about 40% of the screen brightness, and all synchronization is turned on. If you want to watch a movie (HD 720p, sound output to headphones), then count on 5 hours at maximum brightness and about two hours if you “hack” into not the most resource-intensive toys. However, I tested the W700 on Need For Speed Most Wanted. With NFS, the "battery" sat down after 1.5 hours (maximum brightness, sound output to the speakers).

The most interesting thing is that the W700 lay in "sleep" mode for about two weeks and was not discharged by one percent.

I can't say that the numbers are amazing, but almost all tablets do not often have a shorter runtime. I would compare the autonomy of the Acer Iconia Tab W700 with, of course, if you do not "strain" the first one by 100%.

Communication capabilities

The device is equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n (2.4 / 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technologies. Both controllers operate on a Qualcomm Atheros (AR5BMD222) chip with a PCIe x1 interface.

During testing, no failures were observed: the Internet via Wi-Fi stably “reached” the tablet, and the keyboard via Bluetooth functioned without problems.

Memory

Unfortunately, the Acer W700 was not equipped with a card reader, and there is only one USB input. Those. having connected a "flash drive" to USB, you will have to wait with the rest of the devices.

The drive is a high-speed 128 GB SSD from the company. The model is called THNSNS128GMCP. Used 24-nanometer flash memory, SATA-III 6 Gb / s interface, consumption - 3.9 W. Brief technical characteristics:

  • ATA standard: ATA8-ACS
  • LBA size: 48-bit
  • Heads: 16
  • Cylinders: 16 383
  • Capabilities: SMART, APM, NCQ, TRIM, SSD
  • Maximum read speed: just over 400MB / s
  • Maximum write speed: just over 230MB / s

RAM in the device 4 GB (dual channel DDR3 SDRAM, 665 MHz).

Camera

The device was equipped with two camera modules: the main one for 5 MP, the front one for 0.9 MP. Maximum photo resolution - 2592x1944 pixels, video - 1920x1080 pixels at 10 frames per second.

The quality of the photos is mediocre, it can be compared to budget phones. There is automatic focusing and manual focusing. The minimum distance to the object is 30 mm. Video W700 writes no better: it increases a lot, the number of frames is only 10, the sound is gurgling and like from a barrel.

But I liked the front camera. For communication in Skype it is quite suitable.

There are few camera settings:

Performance

This tablet uses the Intel Core i5 (3317U) processor, which is already familiar in almost all laptops and desktop PCs:

Chipset - html "target =" _blank "> Intel HM77.

The performance index exposes the device to 5.4 points, the minimum value, which of course, is gaining a graphics accelerator. The processor is rated at 6.9 points, the memory is 5.9, the graphics in games are 6.3, and the hard drive is 8.1.

CPU-Z data

The graphics accelerator is also the usual integrated graphics of the Ivy Bridge line of processors - Intel HD Graphics 4000. Compared to Intel HD Graphics 3000, HD4000 has been redesigned and offers DirectX 11 capabilities. In theory, it can show performance up to 60% higher than HD3000.

I think that neither the processor nor the video card really needs a broad introduction. For those who are interested - the following data: Mass Effect 3 (low quality) at 1366x768 produces 23 - 33 frames per second, Dirt 3 (low quality) - 22 - 28 frames per second, Deus EX HR - 19 - 31 fps , Battlefield 3 - about 25 fps. In general, you can play, in principle, but at the minimum settings and at a low resolution.

When decoding FullHD video, there are no problems: videos are played smoothly without the slightest lags.

As for the noise, frankly speaking, even in the most difficult applications, the coolers did not overclock so much that they could be heard. Well, a lukewarm breeze - yes, it came out.

Performance Test CPU

I would rate the volume of the built-in loudspeakers at 4 out of 5: at a distance of two meters you can hear it well, you don't have to strain your hearing. The quality is adequate, considering that we have a tablet in front of us.

Conclusion

Conventional bulky notebooks are gradually being replaced by lightweight ultrabooks with the same hardware, and over time they will be replaced by even lighter tablets. I love the current trend of making mobile devices easier to use, and the use of touch screens has played a big role in this. However, now is the turning point, when we already have powerful tablet computers, but they are still relatively large for comfortable use in all situations. Therefore, I believe that such devices are difficult to classify and clearly define the circle of consumers.

I liked the Acer Iconia Tab W700 gadget, first of all, by its appearance, body materials and a high-quality screen. There are probably no negative points. If you think otherwise, please unsubscribe in the comments, I will read it with pleasure.

Tablets have recently been developing faster than old ones are covered with dust. Until recently, the ultrabook seemed to be the last word, but here on you - tablets have caught up with ultrabooks in performance and work on the same OS. It may sound strange, but I do not fully understand why they are needed. The result is thick and heavy devices with large enough dimensions for a tablet, and they are not as convenient to use as their less powerful counterparts. Often these under-ultrabooks are well equipped with docks with a keyboard and trackpad (thanks a lot if there is also an additional battery). But what we have on review today is a different story.

The tablet we're going to talk about today is well-built, has extra goodies in the box, runs on Windows 8, and boasts a third-generation Core i5 processor. He has everything to rightfully be called cool. And it's really good, today we'll be discussing the Acer Iconia Tab W700.

First impressions

When such a tablet falls into the hands, there is a feeling of confusion. He is big. When you think about a tablet, you definitely do not count on such dimensions of the device. The first thought that comes to mind is that someone ripped off the laptop display. And why is the laptop so heavy? The tablet should be more convenient and more compact. And after examining the complete accessories, it immediately becomes clear that this is not such a mobile device. Further study of the physiology of the device more and more discourages the desire to carry it with you.

First impressions from working with the device are positive. But there is one nuance that left an unpleasant aftertaste. It's hard to explain this, but sometimes you had to reboot to enter the password for the Wi-Fi network or to login to the Store. The thing is that the operating system completely refused to enter the second character in the field and threw it to another menu. How to overcome this, I still did not understand, fortunately, one password entry is enough. Otherwise, first impressions are pleasant. But not in relation to mobility.

Design, buttons, display ...

I've always liked the design of Acer devices. They have their own style, and it is difficult to confuse their device with another. At the same time, you can look at their devices without tears. On the contrary, they are pleasing to the eye. The Iconia Tab W700 is doing fine too, albeit subjectively. There are no associations with other manufacturers, which is good news. The monolithic body, pleasant to the touch, is made of unpainted aluminum; scratches (from rings, for example) on it are a matter of time. Dropping it, like all other aluminum devices, is highly discouraged. If you do drop, then take care of your feet - you can be abruptly damaged by such a tablet.

The shape of the Acer Iconia Tab W700 differs from other tablets only in thickness, which is equal to the thickness of the bottom of the MacBook Pro. The rest is the same rectangle with smoothed corners. The only plastic element on the case is located at the back. This is the white insert, under which the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas are located. Although no, there are still plastic buttons. The stickers with technical information around the perimeter of the case do not look quite aesthetically pleasing. Fortunately, you can get rid of them. And the Intel Core i5 inside sticker on the back of the tablet causes a temporary break in the template.

So, if you twist the tablet, the following situation emerges. On the back, in addition to the plastic panel, there is a main camera with a microphone slot and a polished Acer logo. On the upper edge there is a slider for locking the display orientation that automatically returns to one position and two large cooling slots. The bottom edge is filled with "information" stickers, a slot for another microphone and holes for two stereo speakers. On the right side of the case is the power button, volume rocker, headphone jack and another sticker with a serial number next to the Iconia logo. Speaking of buttons. They are poor, pressed tight and do not always respond to pressing. It is possible that this is just an option for journalists who told a lot on their way, but not the point. On the left is a third microphone, Micro HDMI, full-size USB 3.0, and a power connector. The location of all these elements is convenient, but the speakers are often closed with a table, belly, hand and anything that you want to support the device on.

The front side is traditionally almost completely set aside for the 11.6 '' display. The protective glass is surrounded by a thin frame, which becomes wider only at the bottom. There, under the display, there is a Win button and an imprint of the Acer logo. A rubber gasket protrudes slightly between the frame and the glass. To protect the screen, GorillaGlass 2 is used. The glass is very easily soiled, it is difficult to remove the remnants of work and the consequences of a runny nose from it. The picture on the display looks beautiful and pleasing to the eye (thanks to the IPS matrix with proprietary CineCrystal technology and LED-backlighting). Viewing angles are maximum, regardless of position, colors do not change. The display resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels with a pixel density of 189 ppi. The 16: 9 aspect ratio goes well with the above. Despite the fact that ultra-high resolution displays are in vogue today, it is very pleasant to work with this and the pixel density is enough with the head. The sensor supports ten simultaneous clicks.

Standard delivery

The standard delivery of Acer Iconia Tab W700 includes a stand with a hub for three USB 3.0 and a wireless keyboard (the design of which is almost completely licked by you you know who). The stand can be installed horizontally or vertically. It also houses the power connector. There are two sound holes and a slot for the Win button. A big disadvantage will be the unregulated incline level, which can make the use uncomfortable. The keyboard has a fairly good stroke and did not cause any complaints from me.

All this together sounds good, if not for the size of the tablet. So, the body pulled at 295 x 191 x 11.9 mm and weighs 950 grams. There is a certain problem with this, since the tablet should ... no, it just should weigh less! It is definitely inconvenient to hold a kilogram device over a canopy. Lying on the couch with such a fat man is also not what I would like from a tablet rested in my stomach. But he compensates for this with a very attractive appearance and accessories.

Cameras, photos and videos

I would very much like to see a person who would be comfortable using the camera of this device. It's not that there are any serious flaws in it, it's just that it's inconvenient to shoot with a tablet, as this one is also heavy. But back to our Iconia Tab. There are two cameras - a webcam and a main one. The front one is up to 2 megapixels, but it is noisy. Although it should be enough for video communication. The main camera with 5 megapixels already sounds good, but it looks so-so. It does not cause much delight and resembles the cameras of cheap smartphones that are not of the first freshness. But do not forget that this is a camera in a tablet that few people use. Personally, I have never used the camera in a tablet yet (self-indulgence in the first couple of days of use does not count). In good light, the photo can turn out to be watchable, but with the video here it is not very strong (although recording in 1080 r, but 10 frames per second spoils everything). So there are cameras for show, there are two of them, and, in principle, under certain conditions they can be useful.

Hardware, software and battery

The strongest point of the Acer Iconia Tab W700 is the filling. In the carcass of the tablet, a very modern ultrabook was used. Actually, that's where active cooling and almost a kilogram of weight come from. The technical specifications are really very good for a tablet: a dual-core Intel Core i5-3317U processor, clocked at 1.7 GHz; 4 GB of RAM; integrated Intel HD 4000 chip; 128GB SSD storage. The benchmarks are not at the highest level, but this is a tablet. The Windows performance index put a mark of 5.3 points out of 9.9 possible, where the video accelerator was expected to be the weakest point. In the PCMark7 test, the Iconia Tab W700 scored 4475 points, which is an excellent result for a tablet or even an ultrabook. I must admit that it doesn't get as hot as I expected. Although it is very unusual to hear the cooler noise in such devices.

"That's where he has to give up, is in autonomy!" - I thought at first. And I was wrong. The rechargeable battery with a capacity of 4850 mAh holds up well with such an iron. Unfortunately, I have no way to compare with the Microsoft Surface Pro, which, by the way, has exactly the same production capacity, but if you believe the specialized forums, the Acer Iconia Tab W700 will live a couple of hours longer. Personally, in a day of using the tablet in Internet browsing mode, watching videos and other undemanding tasks, it turned out to land 65% of the battery charge. And I did not expect at all that he would last so much time without an outlet. In other words, it should be enough for a working day, but if you have loading tasks in your plans, then charging will definitely not hurt.

Equipped with full Windows 8, the Acer Iconia Tab W700 first hit the market in the summer of 2012 and remains popular today for its quality and price. A powerful Intel Core i5 processor and an 11-inch display make the Acer W700 tablet stand out against a compact PC.

Design

Acer Iconia Tab W700 - convertible tablet

Acer knows how to make solid tablets.

Iconia Tab W700 in an aluminum case (against plastic counterparts from other manufacturers) with a large screen protected by special glass looks like a tablet for a business class. Build quality is excellent as always. A rubber gasket between the case and the screen glass prevents dust from getting on the internal parts.

Acer Iconia Tab W700 is rather thick and heavy, its weight is 950 g. It will not take long to hold in one hand. But these shortcomings can be forgiven, given that the tablet is packed with a powerful processor and a battery from a full-fledged laptop.

The two fan vents are a tribute to aesthetics. There is only one fan in the tablet, and it is very noisy. The active cooling system creates some annoying interference, even turning on while reading.

Additional equipment

Acer Iconia Tab W700 is a convertible tablet. With it, the manufacturer supplies a docking station with a built-in USB 3.0 port that only works when the dock is connected to a network. It comes with a wireless keyboard that connects to the tablet via Bluetooth.

The plastic dock serves as a stand for the tablet. Admittedly, Acer didn't spend too much money on the dock. Its appearance contrasts with an expensive and solid tablet. The dock can be used in landscape and portrait orientations without changing the tilt angle.

The keyboard of the Acer Iconia Tab W700 is commendable. It looks stylish and is quite comfortable to use. Standard size buttons are rare on tablets. Alternatively, the manufacturer offers a transformer complete with a cover and built-in keyboard.

Software

Windows 8 is the hit of the season. Consumers were amazed at the full-fledged computer software on mobile devices, but the first version managed to provoke protests and discontent.

The Acer Iconia Tab W700 comes with Windows 8 initially, but the system itself offers to upgrade to Windows 8.1. The tablet starts to slow down after the update. Updating the drivers available on the developer's site fixes the "glitches" of the system.

Windows 8.1 is called "full-fledged" for a reason. It is identical to the PC and laptop versions. Interestingly, Windows 8 was originally designed for touchscreen devices. Windows 8 tablets are faster and more convenient than devices with other operating systems.

Windows Store still offers few interesting applications, and many games and programs for mobile devices are not adapted for Windows 8. But, given that the tablet is equipped with a full version of Windows, you can install all the familiar computer applications. However, most of them cannot be used without a mouse.

Performance

The software developer has provided the ability to evaluate the performance of Windows 8. The built-in performance index version 8.1 stores the results in a system file.

Windows 8 scored 4.9 on the Acer Iconia Tab W700. When the object of consideration is a transforming tablet, it can be considered a good result. The GPU is Acer's weak link.

The tablet showed an excellent result in network performance - 55 Mbps. Store games on Acer W700 start and run smoothly. Still, tablets are not yet adapted for demanding games. Here, any mobile device, even on Windows 8, is inferior to a computer and a laptop.

The converting tablet plays most of the popular video formats. The HDMI port allows you to connect Acer tablets to a large screen or use for conferences.

Autonomy

The Acer Iconia Tab W700 has a decent battery life. The tablet is equipped with a 4850 mAh battery. This is enough for the transformer to play video for 7.5 hours at maximum brightness. In reading mode, the tablet showed 11 hours. Acer will play for three hours at best. I was pleased with the charger from a full-fledged laptop. Thanks to him, the tablet charges very quickly.

Outcome

Improving the portability of computers has been a major challenge for manufacturers since the introduction of the first PC. Tablets have replaced laptops, as the latter replaced stationary computers in their time. Tablets on Windows 8 have become a new stage in the history of the development of computer technology. It is obvious that manufacturers are striving to create a mobile device that will not be inferior to older brothers in performance and power.

The Acer Iconia Tab W700 is a representative of this concept. A tablet equipped with an Intel Core processor pretends to be a desktop computer. Not to mention installing Windows 8 and updating it to version 8.1.

The trade-offs due to the use of powerful hardware filling slightly spoil the overall impression of the device. An active cooling system, a single USB 3.0 port - all these are trifles, but they are sometimes annoying. Thanks to Acer for installing a powerful battery, so they didn't chase the weight advantage for it.

The excellent Full-HD IPS screen is a real pleasure. The performance for a tablet is sufficient, you can't call it a gaming one, but it is enough for everyday needs and not too demanding games.

Windows tablets are the most versatile. They are suitable for office and home use, suitable for work and leisure. Full-featured apps and games are more than you would expect from a mobile device.

Of course, the thickness of the case could have been less, but the Acer Iconia W700 can still outperform the competition in its segment. Acer plans to release an updated version on a more powerful Intel Haswell processor, possibly fixing minor flaws in it.

Tablet equipped with an Intel Core processor - Acer Iconia Tab W700

A more advanced configuration Acer W701 with a built-in 3G module is available on the market. Both models, W700 and W701, are available in variations:

  • Intel Core i3, 64 GB;
  • Intel Core i3 64GB keyboard dock
  • Intel Core i5 128GB keyboard dock.

The main competitors of the Acer Iconia W700 are Microsoft Surface and Samsung ATIV Pro. Acer wins significantly in price. We are looking forward to the Haswell version.

Advantages:

  • IPS Full-HD screen;
  • excellent performance;
  • fast processor;
  • full-fledged operating system with support for standard computer applications;
  • great design and build;
  • support for PC games;
  • the presence of micro-HDMI and USB 3.0.

Flaws:

  • dimensions, heavy weight and thickness;
  • poor quality rear camera;
  • the noise of the cooling system.

Against the background of the advantages of the Iconia Tab W700, its disadvantages look ridiculous. Acer, as always, has released a quality gadget for adults and demanding users.
