Foros is one of the most expensive villages in Crimea. For what vacationers love it and what they are willing to pay money for. Where to stay and what to see in Foros.

The village of Foros practically ends in the west of the southern coast of Crimea. On the part of the coast from to Batiliman, it is perhaps the largest and very popular. The road along the South Coast Highway from Yalta will take you about an hour, although it is only 40 kilometers, but it is better to initially count on an hour. But from Sevastopol it is much closer, and the traffic on the highway is not so dense.

By the way, in the latter case, to get to Foros, you can choose either the South Coast Highway or the road through the Baydarsky Pass.

Beaches in Foros - where to swim

There are a lot of beaches in Foros, but not to say that they are extensive. Free ones are usually overloaded, but some vacationers sit on concrete breakwaters in Lesha's company - this is how they call the stone figurine of a boy on one of the breakwaters. As for the tourists who settled in the living rooms and hotels of Foros, they usually have their own beaches.

Foros differs in that, as a rule, it is always sunny here, and the sea is very clean. The latter is explained by the presence of two currents. And both of these currents move in opposite directions. Therefore, be prepared for the fact that the beaches of Foros can surprise you in the form of icy water at the height of summer.

Passing from the village to the west, beyond Cape Sarych, or east to Cape Chekhov, you will definitely find yourself a place for individual rest.

What to see / what to do in Foros

On the territory of Foros there are several iconic ones that are worth seeing during your stay:

  • The very first and closest thing that requires attention is Foros park belonging to the Kuznetsov estate. The park covers an area of 70 hectares and is laid out in such a way that it is ideal for walking. You don't have to climb steep steps or winding paths - just go and enjoy the amazing plants and marvel at the skill of the gardeners. Sit in the gazebo in which Fyodor Chaliapin loved to relax.

  • Right there in Foros, closer to Cape Sarych, there is also Tesseli manor, where Maxim Gorky rested.

  • Recommended to visit temple of the resurrection... It stands on the road to the Baydar Gate and is perfectly visible from Foros itself. Enthusiasts who dare to walk to the temple will certainly reach it within an hour. Especially energetic ones fit in 45 minutes. We assure you that the Church of the Resurrection is worth a visit. It is picturesquely located - right on the edge of the cliff. One gets the impression that the temple is flying. The observation deck offers wonderful views. By the way, the temple is active, and on Sunday many believers attend the service. However, the entrance is not ordered to atheists either. The Church of the Resurrection in Foros is a work of art and belongs to everyone.

Foros is a small urban-type settlement located just 40 km from Yalta. Despite the centuries-old history, these places were inhabited as early as the 5th century BC. e., now it looks modern and cannot boast of very ancient monuments. But its geographical location is of great interest - it is the southernmost resort in Crimea. It is quiet and not too crowded, so even in high season you can relax in relative seclusion. And if you want a rich cultural program, then you should go to the surroundings and to neighboring cities.

The history of the resort is connected with the name of the tea magnate of the late 19th century A.G. Kuznetsov, it was he who built a mansion here and laid out a park, which still attract tourists.

How to get to Foros

The most convenient way to get to Foros is from Simferopol, because this is where almost all travelers arrive.

There are no direct routes from the airport to the village, you first need to be at the Kurortnaya station. Minibus No. 115 and bus No. 98 go to it, the travel time is a little over half an hour, the ticket price is 9-14 RUB. In addition, buses and trolleybuses "Transexpress" (like the familiar Aeroexpress) run from the airport, they move non-stop and run around the clock. Travel on a trolleybus costs RUB 27, on a bus - RUB 50.

Then, from the Kurortnaya station, you can either go directly to Foros, or get there with a change in Yalta. Direct flights are more convenient, but they only leave a couple of times a day. The bus takes about 3 hours, the trip will cost 207 RUB. Those who travel without luggage can board the passing flights and get off at the turn to Foros, but from there it is about 2 km to go to the city. If there are no direct buses in the next few hours, you should go to Yalta, where transport runs every half hour. The ticket price is 150 RUB, the journey takes about 2 hours. Minibuses from Yalta to the resort also run frequently, they take about 50 minutes and cost only 20 RUB. Since the railway station is located 200 meters from the Kurortnaya bus station, the route for arriving by train is the same.

For those who want to get to the resort with comfort and without transfers, a taxi is suitable. A two-hour trip will cost about 2050-2150 RUB, but it is better to book a car in advance, because at the airport the prices are much higher. Prices on the page are for October 2018.

Transport

Foros is a small village, so most travelers and locals travel around it on foot. There is no internal public transport network here, but some passing minibuses can be reached from one end of the resort to the other. Most often, tourists want to drive to the Foros Church (not far away, but uphill), in this case, you can take any minibus to Yalta and get off at the Foros-Baydarskiy Vorota intersection.

There is a taxi service in Foros. It is better to agree on the price of the trip in advance, but it almost always fits into 150 RUB. Cars run without a meter and are usually paid in cash.

Car and bike rental

A convenient way to get around is a bicycle. It can be rented from special rental points or hotels. It is better to give preference to mountain models, since the village itself and the surrounding area are mountainous. Daily rental costs from 450 RUB, renting for a long period is usually more profitable.

Foros beaches

All the beaches of the resort are rocky, covered with pebbles. You can go into the water barefoot, but especially sensitive ones bathe in special rubber slippers. The main pride of Foros is the cleanest water in the whole Crimea. This is due to two strong currents passing here and constantly renewing the water. True, the low sea temperature is also associated with these currents, which, moreover, can change in just a couple of days.

Despite the compact size of the village, there are several public beaches. The most popular is Green, it is located in the center and is considered the main one. The Pink Beach, which is located near the Foros sanatorium, is very nice. A little to the east, there is a small-pebble section of the coast - Kholodny. And in Tikhaya Bay there is a picturesque but quiet part of the coast just in name. All beaches have been mastered by tourists, the necessary infrastructure is available: toilets and showers, cafes, changing cabins, paid sun loungers and umbrellas (from 150 RUB per day). Some private sanatorium beaches may be subject to a fee, and some are not admitted to outsiders at all.

There is also a wild coast in the resort. For example, a small secluded area near Cape Chekhov or the famous "Derevyashka" among nudists. There is no infrastructure in these territories, but there are few tourists either.

Foros Hotels

The most popular accommodation option in Foros is guest houses. A room for two in them will cost 2,000 RUB per day; indeed, you come across very decent housing. Apartments with a sea view are more expensive: from 4500 RUB, but even a small company or family can settle in them.

There are few expensive hotels in the resort, rooms in them are dismantled quickly, the cost of living is 6000-10000 RUB per day for a double room. But there are no classic hostels in Foros at all. Many travelers prefer to stay not in the very center of the village, but in its vicinity - it is cheaper, and often more secluded and comfortable.

What to bring

As already mentioned, the Russian tea magnate A.G. Kuznetsov made a great contribution to the development of the resort in the 19th century, so the Crimean tea "with history" will become the best souvenir from Foros. As for the rest, the products are traditionally Crimean: crafts made from shells and pebbles, essential oils, products from juniper wood and onyx. Crimean wines and local specialties: honey, sweets, dried fruits, etc. will be a good present.

It is worth remembering that the juniper is under the protection of ecologists, since the number of trees is rapidly decreasing precisely because of the cutting down for souvenirs. Therefore, it is better to refrain from buying such products.

Another nice gift from the trip is collecting herbs, some of which can be used for cooking, and others as aromatizing at home.

Foros cuisine and restaurants

Travelers of any income will not have a question of where to eat in Foros - cafes and restaurants of various price categories work here. Moreover, most of the establishments are located either on the seashore or near the main attractions.

Those who want to relax on a budget will love the budget canteens. Lunch in them costs from 300-400 RUB per person. You can eat in a cafe by the sea for about 700-800 RUB per person, and dinner in expensive restaurants will cost 1000-1500 RUB per person. There is little fast food in the village, but they usually have a snack on the street with local pastries or dishes of the Crimean Tatar cuisine (from chebureks, not very similar to those they sell here, to a juicy pie with mutton "kubete" - in the limit of 100 RUB). The restaurants mainly offer European, Ukrainian and Russian cuisines, and the quality of the dishes will not disappoint tourists. The guests of the peninsula are happy to try Black Sea rapans, red mullet and other dishes prepared from the inhabitants of the coastal waters.

Those who wish to cook on their own will not have any problems either: fresh food can be bought both in stores and in street markets.

Entertainment and attractions

One of the main attractions of the village is Foros Park. Once it was a garden around the mansion of Alexander Kuznetsov, the house was built in the style of Russian classicism, and the green zone appeared even before the arrival of the tea magnate, in 1834. Now more than half of the territory is a forested area, and about 30 hectares are occupied by well-groomed cultural plantings. The "Paradise" or "Paradise" is especially beautiful, where, in addition to the abundance of plants, there are cascading fountains and access to the sea.

Once a tourist liked it so much rest in Foros What he said to a local resident: “All people dream of being in Paradise after death. You, Forosians, are already in Paradise. " Every year more and more people who have rested in this quiet corner of the Black Sea agree with this statement.

The urban-type resort village is located on the southern coast of the Crimea peninsula. It is located just 40 kilometers from Yalta and is the last resort of Big Yalta in this direction. Foros is the southernmost village of Crimea, next to it stretches to Turkey and the southernmost point of the peninsula - Cape Sarych. Since Soviet times, Foros has been known for the fact that members of the party elite came to it for health improvement. The village gained worldwide fame during the August 1991 coup d'état. At this time, the first (who became the last in those days) President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev was here in isolation at his state dacha.

After Ukraine declared its independence, this dacha became the residence of its president.

Today a little more than two thousand inhabitants live in the village. The basis of the region's economy is the tourism industry.

Foros climate

Foros is located 6 km east of Cape Sarych. The climate of the region is subtropical, with long, humid and not too hot summers and warm winters (average January temperature + 5 ° C). In terms of the number of clear days, Foros is the sunniest place in Crimea. At the same time, it is not the hottest: the daytime heat is cooled by breezes saturated with coolness and ions of the sea. Night winds from the north (hair dryers) bring forest scent and freshness. The low level of precipitation makes the rest in Foros really comfortable. Such climatic conditions are used sanatoriums of Foros in the treatment of pulmonary, cardiovascular and nervous diseases.

Foros is famous for its clean sea. But the local is even more famous the park... On an area of 47 hectares, a unique flora reserve was founded 160 years ago, in which plants from all over the world were collected. The park was created on the basis of a natural local forest. On the one hand, it adjoins a steep sea coast, and on the other it abuts against the Foros mountain. The park features over 200 species of shrubs and trees. Located in the central part of the park, six different-level artificial lakes fascinate with their beauty - this place in the park is rightfully called "Paradise corner". Rest in Foros it is considered incomplete if the vacationer has not visited the "Paradise".

Things to do in Foros

On each beach you can have fun not only sunbathing or swimming in the Black Sea. All Attributes beach holiday organically fit into the local "wild" landscape: windsurfing, boats, boat trips on yachts and boats, jet skis, "banana". Foros is one of the few resorts that boasts a golf course.

Colored beaches of Foros

The beaches of Foros are small-pebbled. There are only five of them - one sanatorium and four city ones. If rest on the Black Sea has long become your good habit, and you have already traveled all over Crimea, then foros beaches will surprise you. They are not crowded and clean. A symbolic fee is charged only at the entrance to the sanatorium beach, the rest of the beaches are free. With their local names, the beaches remind of Dunno and its Sunny city - "Green", "Pink", "Cold" and "Quiet Bay". The road to each beach is marked with arrows, so it is not difficult to find them.

Foros sanatoriums

You can combine rest on the Black Sea with recovery in Foros in several places:

  • Sanatorium "Foros". Located at the edge of the village, 100 m from the beach. It is on the territory of this sanatorium that the Foros park described above is located. The 14-storey building of the sanatorium was built in 1986. On the territory there is a gym, sports grounds, sauna, library, dance hall, solarium, cinema.
  • Sanatorium "Yuzhny". Located near Foros. Built in 1979. It was assumed that the sanatorium will provide high-quality rest in Foros leaders of foreign communist parties of the highest echelon. Therefore, in three buildings of the sanatorium there are 34 suites, designed for 120 people. All rooms have sea views. Vacationers can use the banquet hall, swimming pool, gym, sauna, volleyball court, therapeutic gymnastics hall, barbecue.
  • Recreational complex "Tavria". Located near Foros, in the village of Oliva, not far from the Black Sea. 28 rooms of different comfort levels are located in three buildings of the sanatorium. There is a children's room, library, conference room, restaurant.

About food in Foros

When planning a vacation in Foros, one should take into account the fact that food prices in the village are higher than in other resort places on the southern coast of Crimea. This is due to the remoteness of Foros from "civilization". In addition, currency exchange here takes place at a rate that is unfavorable for you, so it is better to come with “your own” hryvnia.

Foros bars and cafes are located in the Foros sanatorium and on the embankment:

  • cafe "Fundu"; open around the clock in summer;
  • bar "Caprice";
  • Fleur cafe; works only in summer.
  • Armenian cafe.

Foros hotels and prices

The price increase associated with Foros's "privacy" was not limited to products. Cost of living in the village is also disadvantageously different from the cost of living in other resorts of the Black Sea. And although problems with hotels, sanatoriums or rent private housing not here, but you will have to lay out the "round pretty penny":

  • a night stay in a furnished two-room apartment will cost 600-800 hryvnia. Renting a house for a family of 4 costs 250-500 hryvnia, a one-room apartment - from 350 hryvnia;
  • hotels offer rooms for two at a price of 480 hryvnia;
  • a standard room for two in the Foros sanatorium with treatment and meals costs 1400-1800 hryvnia.

Most of those who spent their holidays in Foros return here again and again. Why is Foros so attractive to them? How has this southern corner bewitched? The answers can be found in tourist reviews. Describing their days in the village, they celebrate:

  • unique properties of healing air, saturated with juniper-pine phytoncides and sea ions;
  • breathtaking and beautiful nature of Crimea;
  • free beaches and clean sea water on them;
  • a picturesque park;
  • the feeling of "prestige" while vacationing in Foros, the former health resort of the party elite.
