Acer Aspire R7 laptop review: upside down. Acer Aspire R7 software

A cer Aspire R3-131T is a compact budget device, it is a hybrid version of a laptop, turning into a tablet if necessary. Due to its dimensions, it is ideal for carrying with you, but the filling assumes the solution of extremely light tasks, work with office applications and text editors. To purchase this laptop, about $ 430 is enough, which is not so much by today's standards. True, use Acer aspire R3-131T is unlikely to work as a home laptop, since it is equipped with only an 11.6-inch screen, but in the form of a companion on travel, business trips, breaks between classes at the institute or school - it is very convenient.

Design

Such a laptop can easily fit into a bag, because its dimensions are only 298x211x20.9 mm. However, the weight is quite large, as for the 11-inch model - 1.58 kg. The Acer Aspire R3-131T's case is cleanly contoured with rounded corners and uniform thickness, which makes it look a bit bulky. The device is made of textured plastic in blue; a modification in white is also on sale. The matte finish prevents the appearance of fingerprints, the laptop is comfortable to use and does not slip in your hands.

The main feature of the Acer Aspire R3-131T is its conversion capability. Quite tight hinges offer 360-degree screen rotation, providing several installation options: in the form of a stand, presentation, as well as a tablet. It is almost impossible to open the lid with one hand, since the laptop is small and relatively light. There is nothing remarkable about the build quality - in some places the plastic bends, in the position of the closed laptop you can see the cracks.

The bottom is not overloaded functional elements- support legs and grids of two speakers. The panel is secured with numerous screws arranged in three rows.

Display, sound, webcam

The Acer Aspire R3-131T has an 11.6-inch screen with touch control and a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It is quite contrasting and bright, but has extremely limited viewing angles, due to which, when changing the position of the display, you can observe a sharp inversion of colors. The low resolution allows you to see individual pixels, which also does not add to the comfort of the work. At the same time, the screen is protected by durable Corning Gorilla Glass, demonstrates good sensitivity and reduced glare, despite the glossy finish.

Both stereo speakers have an outlet on the bottom of the case. The sound quality is below average - the absolute absence of bass and overkill of high frequencies make it completely unnatural. However, you can always use headphones, they partially solve the problem. The maximum volume is poor. By the way, I would like to note the very inconvenient location of the speakers, because in laptop mode they will be covered by the surface of the table, and in the form of a tablet - by the body of the device itself.

The 1-megapixel webcam lens is located in the usual place for laptops - on the top frame of the display. At work, it is mediocre and is only suitable for providing video communication.

Keyboard and touchpad

If the body of the device is a pleasant blue color, then from the inside the entire working surface is made in black in contrast. This creates a certain special charm, despite the obviously inexpensive look of the device. And the keyboard with bright white markings fits into this image very harmoniously. It is of the island type, with traditionally reduced function and cursor buttons. The keys clack loudly when typing, have a relatively short stroke and a pleasant to the touch surface. In the process of converting the laptop to other positions, the keyboard is automatically deactivated, so there is no need to worry about accidental clicks... In general, it is comfortable enough and is sunk into the case just enough so as not to scratch the display and not contact the table surface in stand mode.

The touchpad is slightly shifted to the left, it has a fairly large size and is made in a clearly rectangular shape. The rough surface provides excellent grip, there are no physical mouse keys, and the sensitivity is good.

Performance

Acer Aspire R3-131T-P24A runs an operating Windows systems 10 Home with Intel Pentium N3710 quad-core processor. Its clock speeds of 1.6-2.56 GHz, as well as the capabilities of the Braswell platform, allow it to work slightly faster than the Pentium N3700, providing a good level of performance in office tasks. However, in a passively cooled laptop, with a TDP of 6W, the processor quickly reaches its limit with slightly more demanding software. The cache of the second level is 2 MB, there is no support for hyper-threading technology.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 405 (Braswell) received 16 units and is a renamed version of Intel HD Graphics (Broadwell). Its operating frequencies are quite low - 320-700 MHz, so the gaming performance is extremely limited. For example, Counter-Strike: GO 2012 on medium at 1366x768 pixels will go at 32 fps, while Sims 4 2014 with similar settings will be almost unplayable at 19 fps.

DDR3L-1600 MHz RAM is 4 GB, expandable up to 8 GB. There is also a 500 GB hard drive with a spindle speed of 5400 rpm.

Ports and communications

The main part of the connectors is concentrated on the left side of the case: RJ-45, HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and a combined audio jack.

On the right are the power and volume buttons, LED indicators for operation hard disk and power supply, as well as a charger socket. The SD card reader is located on the back of the case.

The laptop has support for wireless technologies: Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n and Bluetooth.

Battery

Capacity of the built-in 4-section lithium polymer battery is 3270 mAh. This is not much, but in combination with a low-power processor, good autonomy is achieved. For example, you can play games at maximum brightness for three hours, watch movies at medium brightness for about five hours, and work at text editor- about ten hours.

Conclusion

Despite the fact that the manufacturer stubbornly positions the Acer Aspire R3-131T as a laptop, it can be safely associated with a half-forgotten netbook. It is compact, inexpensive, and has mediocre performance. There are features - touch screen and the ability to convert to different devices, including a tablet. In principle, this is a convenient option for variety, when you can work not only with a laptop, but also watch films in stand or presentation mode. We recommend the Acer Aspire R3-131T as a starting point for communication with the world of technology or as a mobile travel companion.

Intel and Microsoft have made tremendous contributions to touch control in notebook computers in recent years. The first strongly encourages manufacturers to use touch screens in their ultrabooks, and the second is pushing its new Windows 8.1 OS with a rethinking interface adapted to "sensitive" displays. Touch screens are gradually appearing not only in miniature ultrabooks - they can often be found in monoblocks, and even in medium-format laptops they have begun to come across quite often.

You can not even mention the various "transformers" - they have a touch layer on the display is considered perhaps the most important component. One of these devices that came to us for testing is the Acer Aspire R7. The laptop (let's call it that after all) lacks an optical drive - it is too thin, so at first glance it can be confused with another member of the ultrabook family, although in fact it is considered a transforming laptop.

One of the highlights of the laptop is the touchscreen display, equipped with an Ezel hinge, which makes it easy to transform a medium-format laptop into a large “almost tablet”. In terms of the transformation mechanism, the R7 is a bit like Sony VAIO Fit 15 multi-flip - well, let's see how comfortable and reliable it is for our test subject. The second highlight is the location of the touchpad and keyboard. For some reason, Acer decided to swap them.

⇡ Appearance

As mentioned above, the Acer R7 is quite thin by the standards of a mid-format laptop, and yet it can be transformed into a tablet. However, do not forget that the optical drive has become a victim of this ergonomics altar.

For some, this may be a significant drawback, but in the era of inexpensive and capacious flash drives, such a drawback can be easily forgiven. According to the manufacturer, the case of the laptop is all-metal, with a soft soft-touch coating on the bottom.

Due to the design of the Acer Aspire R7, there is a large notch on the lid, where a retention foot is located, which holds the laptop display. You shouldn't worry about the integrity of the cover at the point of contact with the leg - there is a rubber insert that protects the case from scratches during transformation.

In tablet mode, the display does not completely adhere to the body, but at a slight angle. Alas, this disadvantage is inherent in many transformers. The Acer Aspire R7 is the middle link between a laptop and a tablet, weighing 2.4 kg. Therefore, in tablet mode it is more convenient to use it not in hands, but on a horizontal surface, where for comfortable work with a large touchscreen, a slight tilt will come in handy. The manufacturer claims that the user can select the desired screen position with a slight movement of the hand. However, one hand, and even more so with a light movement, is not enough.

The hinges turned out to be quite tight, so when transforming the laptop with the other hand, you have to hold its base so that the laptop does not budge. However, the transformation mechanism has a more significant drawback than sliding on the mounting surface. Acer R7 came to us for tests after the exhibition, where everyone could try the Ezel loop in action and, of course, play with the mechanism a lot. Of course, no one was particularly careful, but, to the credit of the laptop, nothing loosened, and the cunning patented Taiwanese design did not fall apart after such executions. Only small and long scratches appeared on the working area, closer to the back side - the fault is not in the well-thought-out design of the display or its legs. During the transformation of the device into a tablet and back, the monitor body touches the working area: scratches from such "interaction" are clearly visible in the next photo.

Scratches from the monitor case are especially noticeable

There are a pair of status indicators in the front, as well as a pair of microphones, and there are two large ventilation grilles in the back. On the left, there is a proprietary Acer connector that looks like a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt, but in fact is neither one nor the other. This is the port for connection VGA adapter... Next to it is an HDMI port, as well as a pair of USB 3.0 connectors, a universal audio jack for connecting a headset (or headphones / microphone). On the right is a memory card reader, USB port 2.0, dual volume button, power key and charger connector.

The bottom of the laptop is made of plastic with a soft-touch coating - usually no one does that, but in the case of the Aspire R7, such a coating on the back of the laptop is justified. In tablet mode, holding on to such plastic is much more pleasant than usual. The bottom is flat, and small ventilation grills are provided only in the area of the rear legs. By the way, the transformer has as many as 6 rubber legs, and all of them are very large. But, as already noted, not particularly tenacious. Therefore, the laptop will slide both on a lacquered or glass tabletop, as well as on a regular office desk made of coated chipboard. Also on the bottom, closer to the user, a pair of speakers is installed.

The working area of the laptop looks extremely unusual, because the manufacturer decided to completely rely on the touchscreen and swapped the touchpad and keyboard. From a subjective point of view, this castling is disastrously inconvenient, but it forces you to use the touch screen more often. None of the touchscreen ultrabooks that came to us for testing could convince the author of the advantage of the touchscreen. But after a couple of days of communication with the hero of this review, when working with a stationary PC, the hands themselves reached for the usual display in order to press something on the screen. Why? It's simple: you quickly get used to good things. Indeed, unlike most ultrabooks, the Acer Aspire R7 display does not wobble with every light touch.

The touch panel is huge, its size is 106x77 mm, but due to the non-standard placement, this does not give any advantages. The bottom corners of the touchpad are, as usual, the left and right keys of the pointing device. Their move was unexpectedly soft, but at the same time noisy. In addition, the moment of pressing is not felt at all, and you have to navigate exclusively by clicks.

The keyboard has only one drawback: there is no additional numeric block, which, if desired, is not so difficult to place in a medium-format laptop. Otherwise, this is one big plus - it is perfectly secured, so even with very strong pressure, the base does not bend, the stroke of the keys is of medium hardness, and the moment of actuation is perfectly felt, in addition to everything, the keys are practically silent. In general, working with such a keyboard is a pleasure. There are not many pressed keys - traditionally it is the long-suffering "tilde" ("ё" in the Russian layout), as well as arrow keys. We should also mention the white keyboard backlighting. It is very uniform, besides, there are two levels of luminescence. Of course, there is no smooth adjustment, but even a couple of levels allows you to choose a more or less comfortable level of brightness in any light.

Today we got a rather interesting laptop on our table. It is curious from all sides - both in price, and in functionality, and in build quality, it surpasses many competitors in its class of multimedia laptops with a rotary touchscreen display. Yes, that's right, the laurels of the Lenovo Yoga line do not give rest to many, which led to the fact that many devices with a similar design appeared on the market, and - just from this series.

The perspective and convenience of this design can hardly be overestimated. Unattractive at first glance option to flip the display and turn a not quite thin laptop into not the most thin tablet in fact, it becomes convenient when free space around is important, for example, in transport, or in a cafe. Yes, of course, there are also more compact options, but they are more expensive, as a rule, and their display is smaller, and here we have quite a solid 14 inches. As usual, you can use the laptop in console mode, but its usefulness is still questionable, maybe you will use it a couple of times.

The laptop has a 14-inch touchscreen display, a practical and unassuming body, not a gaming level, but powerful, features and a nice price tag, which is around 34,000 rubles. It can be described as "no complaints", but in good plan... Not easily soiled, not "consumer-grade" type, with a set of necessary ports, this laptop will appeal to a large number of users. This attractive unattractiveness favorably distinguishes it from competitors who, in pursuit of reducing the thickness of the case and using expensive components and materials, are transferring their devices from the affordable middle class to the category of more luxurious and expensive multimedia devices. Well, let's start with the bundle.

Equipment

The laptop box is the most common, "proletarian", with a folding top. Inside, the expectedly modest equipment: a laptop in a bag, and behind the separator is an HDMI to VGA adapter and Charger... The laptop battery is located inside the case, and in order to disconnect it or replace it, you need to spin the device. This design is used mainly in modern ultrabooks.

Such a device will definitely need a bag for comfortable use, because it will not fit into a handbag, and it is not very convenient to carry it in your hands because of its weight and size. , as well as, and much more you can find in the section of our website.

Design

The Acer Aspire R3-471TG-52YZ looks, as we have already mentioned, modest and stylish. The gray plastic cover is not particularly easily soiled, but traces of exploitation still remain on it. The bottom is black, not in color, but made of soft-touch plastic, very pleasant to the touch.

Inside, a gray monolithic work surface awaits us, functional hinges next to the display immediately catch our eye, allowing the laptop to take various outlandish "poses" (the same mode of a tablet, console, etc.). These hinges are strong, they are large, the construction is reliable, the laptop fits well in both tablet and console modes, in contrast to the rather fragile hinges of many ultrabooks.

Display - mirrored, framed by a gray matte frame and covered protective glass, scratch resistant. In its upper part there is a camera peephole.

The keyboard in this laptop is the most common, without backlighting and any additional chips. The travel of the buttons is small and soft, to dial a large number of the text is not very convenient, but you can get used to it. The highlighted number block is missing due to its small size, the symbol markings are white and easy to read, with blue icons for the functional options. In general, we understand why such small flat buttons were installed, this was done so that the keyboard did not interfere too much and protrude in tablet mode, and we saw a convenient function when the buttons "slide" into the case when switching to tablet mode, and it was in another model.

Under the keyboard there is a decent-sized clickpad, its stroke is comfortable, it is convenient to use it, and in work it is quite possible to do without an external mouse.

On the sides of the device, as usual, there are various ports. Now let's see which ones. On the left side we have a Kensington lock, an RJ-45 network port, an HDMI video output (an adapter to VGA, as you remember, is included) and a USB 3.0 connector. On the right side there is a charging socket, a laptop power button (it is placed on the side, as in many laptops and ultrabooks of this type), a pair of USB 2.0, a card reader, a headset jack. There is no DVD drive, there is only one USB 3.0 port, and the USB 2.0 ports on the right side are very close to each other. These are all obvious drawbacks, unfortunately, the rest is quite a standard set.

Specifications

  • Display - 14 inches, resolution - 1366 x 768 pixels, multi-touch capacitive, swivel, with LED-backlit, mirrored

  • Body - gray / black plastic, dimensions - 34.2 x 24.5 x 2.4 cm, weight - 2.2 kg
  • Manufacturer's warranty - 1 year

We see decent characteristics: the processor of the current Intel Core i5 (Haswell) line, albeit a low-voltage one, has an average amount of RAM (4 GB), which means that - if desired - with the help of this laptop you can work both in quite demanding programs, as well as and entertain yourself with games, of course, at low settings, as far as the built-in video card will allow, and the games will not be the newest.

The volume of the hard disk pleases - 1000 GB, there is enough space for documents, and for projects of a working nature, and for personal files, for example, a selection of vacation photos in high resolution.

Screen

The laptop has a 14-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels and a glossy finish. The image of this display is excellent. The viewing angles are large, everything is clearly visible both from the "frontal" position and from the "interlocutor" position. The colors are vivid and juicy, the image will appeal to both moviegoers and workaholics. Those who like to edit photos will also be satisfied.

Of course, all this - taking into account the resolution and display size, this laptop does not reach Full HD, which is logical. And when active use"That-very" hinge, the screen can be installed as conveniently as possible, which will make watching movies, surfing the Internet and working as comfortable as possible. The display has support for Multi-touch up to 10 simultaneous touches, it is responsive, the sensor responds without delay, everything is fine here.

Sound and battery life

The sound system was not surprising. Yes, the sound is not bad, quite clear and crisp, but the volume limit is not up to par, and in general, in this regard, the laptop in question "is not remembered." The bass is practically absent, so fans of listening to music "with maximum immersion" will be disappointed.

A non-removable 3560 mAh battery does not work wonders either, but overall it gives a good result. The laptop is compact enough, and it is assumed that you will often carry it with you, without recharging at medium loads ( office applications, Internet and the like), it will work in the region of 4-5 hours, and up to 7.5-8 hours in power saving / reading mode. As you can see, the results are not fantastic, but quite normal.

Rarely, but it happens that some devices do not lose their relevance after years and a vivid example of this is the Acer Aspire with the R7 index - a hybrid laptop in its "own" form factor, which differs not only appearance, but also a productive filling.

Acer Aspire R7 photo

The main feature of the device is the unusual fastening of the screen to the laptop keyboard. The bridge between them is a long and wide loop - Ezel Hinge. Thus, three modes of operation are available: laptop mode, tablet mode and hybrid mode. The latter option is unusual, since it assumes a "rear" placement of the screen and is most optimal for presentations, or maybe something completely new, implemented on the go. Indeed, the "lid" of the laptop can be twisted as you like, and it will be better demonstrated by images than words. If there is any doubt about the start of such a rotary design, then a few years later not a single complaint was received about the Ezel Hinge, and the release of the device took place almost four years ago.

The hybrid case is metal with plastic inserts. It can be opened with one hand, for which a special ledge is provided, and it is not necessary to use two limbs. And in general, ergonomics are at their best, for example, the keyboard here has a soft and short key travel, which, in turn, do not go as a candy bar, but are spaced apart, but the digital block does not. At the same time, the thickness of the case is 28 mm, but visually it is not noticeable, of course, the gadget cannot be called airy, but still there is a feeling of compactness despite the average screen diagonal of 15.6 inches. If we talk about the mass, then it does not exceed 2.4 kg. A productive laptop weighs the same weight for an average hand, so a pocket, as they say, will not pull on a business trip.

It is also worth noting the location of the cooling system radiators, there are two of them, and they are located at the back. The layout excludes that you accidentally plug the holes, because this will lead to overheating of the iron. Pity that modern devices this solution is rarely used. All the necessary interfaces are located on the left, which is convenient. There's no optical drive, but that's not too frustrating.

Separately, I would like to note the touchpad, which is quite large here and is located not under, but above the keyboard. At first, the decision will seem strange, but doubts about the ease of management will disappear after you begin to transform this comrade. Laptop dimensions - 376x254.5x28.5 mm.

Display Acer Aspire R7

The R7 features a 15.6-inch Full-HD IPS display and touch control... There is no protective coating, but it itself is glossy, therefore, despite the wide viewing angles, glare in the sun cannot be avoided. However, in the 13th year, "gloss" was in trend, and only then even the flagships became matte, which was done for the sake of practicality, and not a beautiful appearance.

Needless to say, the laptop's response to tapas is excellent, there is LED-backlighting, the picture looks juicy and at the same time real. To be honest, 1920 x 1080 pixels do their job. In addition, now 17.3 inches is not always with such a resolution, but here is a compact compact.

Filling Acer Aspire R7

In Russia, a modification with the Intel Core i7-3537U was mainly sold - this is a stripped-down SoC of the flagship processor with two cores divided into four threads. Thus, a frequency of 3.1 GHz is achieved, and RAM works in 2-channel mode. The last few options:
  • DDR3-bar, 1600 MHz, 2 GB;
  • DDR3-bar, 1600 MHz, 4 GB;
  • DDR3 bar, 1600 MHz, 8 GB.
Naturally, performance directly depends on the size of the RAM. It is for this reason that the 8GB laptop model has been and remains the most popular. At the same time, it can be expanded, since there is a second slot for the bar. By the way, R7 with Intel Core i5 was offered abroad, but you can rarely see it on Russian shelves, if at all.

The graphic component is unchanged. The laptop has both an integrated and an integrated graphics card. The first is represented by the Intel HD 4000 video core and is part of the crystal. At the current moment in time, the graphics accelerator has lost its relevance, but it is more than enough to display the OS interface. Discrete graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2 GB GDDR5 memory. All in all, gaming laptop it cannot be called, but it was not positioned as a gaming station, but for presentations and working with graphics without fanaticism, there will be enough power. In addition, the mobile solution has been tested by time and has served faithfully for a long time to this day. And here Intel chipset HM77 Express is hopelessly outdated, although not devoid of USB support third generation.

Several types of Western Digital and Toshiba disks are responsible for data storage:

  • 512 GB HDD (WD);
  • 750 GB HDD (WD);
  • terabyte hard drive (Toshiba).
Abroad, there was a modification with a 128 and 256 GB SSD, but what is it for modern laptop... In general, the drive is the weakest point here, since it not only takes up a lot of space and makes the weight heavier, but also has a rather low spindle speed - 5400 rpm.

Acer Aspire R7 software

The laptop comes out of the box with 64-bit Windows 8 preinstalled. Needless to say, it won't be difficult to upgrade to the top ten. Moreover, the full version, which will feel comfortable on this hardware. We also recommend updating the drivers and flashing the BIOS to latest version what is it for special utility... Acer has not forgotten its brainchild and still supports it, albeit occasionally.

Acer Aspire R7 test

Modern synthetic tests do not give the highest rating to the device, however, it is impossible to completely exclude the possibility of launching games, for example, Battlefield 3 with a low FPS, but at high settings it will go like crazy. Even Mafia II can be swung, but here only low quality. Otherwise, it is a good workhorse for everything, which is distinguished by its low energy consumption, which means that you cannot call it a “brazier”.

Multimedia Acer Aspire R7

The device has as many as four 8-watt speakers to simulate surround sound, so do not neglect the installation of a proprietary audio driver, which will fully reveal the sound potential. Be that as it may, you shouldn't expect Hi-End miracles, but the average ears will be pleased with acoustics.

Not without a 720p webcam in splendid isolation. It is enough for video conferencing and Skype calls.

Acer Aspire R7 interfaces

R7 offers two USB 3.0, one USB of the second generation, HDMI, RG-45 / D-Sub, but through adapters, as well as a mini-jack, so you have to look for headphones. There is also an SD card reader. From wireless interfaces - Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0. Yes, the device does not differ with a rich set of ports, but for most users this will be quite enough. So, you can connect a projector and a printer at the same time, as well as external storage... A 90-watt power supply will work.

Autonomy Acer Aspire R7

Since we're talking about autonomy, a 53 Wh battery is implemented here - about 3000 mAh. Yes, not enough, but the processor and video card are energy efficient and, if not played, it will be enough for 6-8 hours of productive work without a constantly active wireless Internet connection.

Price and video review of Acer Aspire R7

Despite the years, the Acer Aspire R7 remains a relevant and interesting device, but more for geeks than for the average user.
