Cleaning the glass and matrix of iMac. Cleaning the iMac matrix or iMac display Most often, dust accumulates under the protective glass

Repair and maintenance of a monoblock from Apple requires the participation of real professionals with extensive experience. Our service offers its services on favorable terms for the client in Moscow. Recently, there have been many requests where device users are concerned about the appearance of dust under the aimak glass. Customers turn to the service center for a solution to the problem and do not engage in amateur activities.

Independent attempts to open a monoblock and try to remove dust end up in damage to its case and costly repairs. Dust enters through the ventilation holes. Do not take risks in vain and rush. It is much safer and cheaper to seek help from our specialists. Remove accumulated dust quickly and efficiently. On an Apple imac from 2012-2014, dust accumulated between protective glass and LCD-matrix, which made it difficult to remove. We use special equipment and tools to clean the monoblock. At the request of the client, the masters go to the house or office to provide services.

Order dust cleaning under the glass and on the imac matrix from professionals

Accumulations of dust that appear in the corners must be removed, otherwise the spots will penetrate into the upper layers of the matrix and backlight forever. Matrix cleaning is possible only on thick iMacs of 2008-2011. There, dust accumulates inside the screen itself, between the layers.

Our experts recommend that the monoblock be serviced at regular intervals. It is necessary to call the master at least once a year. Be sure to wipe the surfaces of the display and the protective glass from the inside. It will help to avoid the accumulation of dust.

In which we talk about how to fix certain problems with Apple computers. McFix is frequently contacted by desktop users. Apple computers iMac from 2009 to 2012 inclusive with screen dust issue.

In this article, we will tell and show you how to clean the matrices in iMac 21.5 or 27 by yourself.

For the experiment, let's take the iMac 27 ″ 2010 release. iMac (by appearance) was in a dusty room, even in the off state, gray stains are visible under the glass. And, as it turned out later, in this room they also regularly smoked, and obviously not thin cigarettes.

Before proceeding with the analysis of the screen, you need to carefully prepare the work surface. The surface should be horizontally flat, clean, free of debris and even more so without any crumbs. On the table, you can put a clean, dry and soft towel of a suitable size (larger than the size of the screen - at least 10 cm on each side).

There should be enough space on the desktop so that during disassembly all the parts of the matrix in the disassembled state can be freely placed on it. The screen bezels can also be removed under the table, if it is convenient. Let's get started.

The photo clearly shows (without removing the glass) that a wide strip of dirt and dust runs along the top of the screen.

Carefully remove the protective glass, hooking on the middle of the screen with a suction cup.

With the help of visual inspection, we carefully study the condition of the matrix and glass. The conclusion is unequivocal - wiping the glass and matrix with a cloth will not lead to anything. It is possible that only stains will remain from brushing off the top layer of dust.

We set aside the glass, remove the matrix and proceed to its analysis.

First of all, carefully remove all the loops.

We carefully remember the position of the fastening frames fastened on the short sides (the magnets on top and on the vertical sides of the matrix are directed outward). We unscrew all the screws that secure the frames to the base of the screen. Of all the screws, only two are short (remember the side on which they were installed).

The frames in some places are glued to the foil along the base of the matrix, therefore, to remove them, we use thin but strong tools (for example, a construction spatula and a specially sharpened spatula).

Along the upper border of the screen along the edge there are thin loops bent to the base of the decoder. They are attached to the decoder very unreliably. Therefore, any contact with them must be extremely careful. Even if you apply a slight effort, the cable or even one contact on the cable may move away from the contact pad of the decoder, or a kink crack may appear at the base of the cable. In this case, the repair of the matrix can be considered complete. A new matrix for 27″ iMac costs from 20,000 rubles.

We remove the aluminum adhesive tape around the perimeter of the entire matrix frame. This must be done slowly and very carefully! We will also have to remove the adhesive tape covering the decoder cover (along the top border of the screen). We remind you that a new matrix for 27″ iMac costs from 20,000 rubles.

We unscrew the screws securing the decoder cover. Remove the cover and carefully disconnect the two adapter cables from the main matrix board. Carefully peel off the matrix boards from the matrix body. Again, it would not be superfluous to recall that a new matrix on a 27″ iMac is expensive.

Along the perimeter of the screen (again, very carefully) we take out the fasteners from the latches, slightly bending the edges of the frame. This operation is more convenient to do together, placing the matrix on a short edge on a flat hard surface. Everyone has already understood about the cost of the new matrix.

Next, we very carefully remove the LCD glass of the matrix (we don’t remind you about the new matrix). You will have to carefully and as easily as possible throw the decoders in order to raise the LCD glass, holding them strictly by the middle of the long side, without twisting or pulling.

We raise the LCD glass of the matrix and put it aside so that the cables from the LCD glass to the decoders do not bend anywhere and lie freely.

Under the LCD matrix we see reflective layers, the closest to us along the upper side is covered with a wide strip of gray-brown soot.

We can remove this type of dirt only with active chemistry. AT this case we took Mr. Muscle Professional (without ammonia). White paper towels (without a color pattern) are ideal for us to control the removal of dirt and remove residual washing liquid. Textile products are not suitable here - just smear dirt on the LCD glass.

We do all the operations of washing and wiping the reflective layers and the matrix carefully and quickly enough, since the detergent, dissolving the dirt in itself, begins to dry out. We installed next to the desktop bright lamp to see that there are no streaks left on the reflective layer and on the matrix.

We clean all surfaces, starting with the reflective layer that remained in the screen module mount.

Now it's time to clean the LCD glass. We very carefully shift the glass onto a clean surface so that the decoders lie freely on the table surface without any kinks. In this case, the glass itself should lie tightly on a strictly horizontal surface of the table. This operation is best done by two people so that the LCD glass does not move on the surface of the table when actively wiping it with a paper towel.

We see the result of cleaning the reflective layer and the matrix in the photographs.

Starting in 2011, users of the (previous generation) iMac began to observe a very unpleasant picture on their displays: the image was covered with a light “haze” around the perimeter, messages began to appear on forums and social networks about “dust and soot” under iMac glass. But the most offensive for the owners of apple monoblocks was, having come to the service center, to find out that the dust did not get under the protective glass and not on the surface of the matrix, but inside: between the active layers of the display, standard cleaning in this case was not enough, many centers offered to change the display to a new one, which, however, did not save from the reappearance of the problem after a few months or a year ...

The trouble became typical, and soon experienced engineers with hands growing in the right direction mastered the technology complete disassembly and cleaning iMac matrices, which was much cheaper and (subject to additional sealing of the cleaned matrix) more profitable than replacement.

With the release of the new line of iMacs in 2012 in a thin body, everyone was blown away by the unique design and performance of devices, and advanced users looked at these monoblocks with hope also because now iMac was equipped with a new generation display module, it does not have a removable protective glass, it is glued to the matrix, like in your iPhone.

For a long time, the matrix was considered absolutely non-separable and impervious to dust, but since about the middle of 2013, the nightmare of all old iMacs has returned: the lower part of the display (especially along the edges) gets a large number of dust that spoils all the fun of using one of best displays in the world.

After another “dusty” iMac, our friends from the MacPlus center decided to invite us to visit them, told us in detail and showed that Apple repair is not only a modular replacement, even an officially maintenance-free 2012 iMac display can be disassembled, removed all dust and prevent her reappearance on screen. Our colleagues shared with readers detailed instruction about how to get rid of such problems.

First, of course, you need to remove the display module. It is attached to the case with double-sided tape. The factory uses professional tape produced by 3M, so we do not recommend to be amateur and use exactly the same when reassembling, because adhesive tape is the only thing that keeps your expensive display in every sense from falling.

Along the perimeter, the display module is glued with a protective fabric tape, which, according to the developers, was just supposed to protect the weak points of the structure from dust penetration.

Mounting screws are hidden under the tape, holding the main part of the case and the light-scattering layers of the backlight system, some of the screws are located under the protective panel of the decoder board ( right part illustrations below). It is worth unscrewing them very carefully, since damage to the film cable or elements on the board itself will require a much more complex repair or replacement of the display.

After dismantling the mounting screws and protective elements, you can carefully separate the active layers of the matrix from the main body of the display module.

Now you can clearly see the dust that has collected between these components.

Please note: dust gets into the iMac matrix (in the vast majority of cases) under the influence of its own cooling system, in the same places: the photo below clearly shows a gap in Apple's defenses: What can we say about the smallest particles of dust.

When cleaning older generation displays, it was very convenient to use a compressor or, in a pinch, a special cleaning roller, similar to a clothes cleaning tool, but with a softer surface. Colleagues did not recommend using widespread compressed air cylinders (sold in “computer supermarkets”), since condensate forms in them much more often than in the capacity of a professional compressor, which can fall in the form of small drops of moisture not only on the active layers, but also on the top of the backlight layers, from where it will be very difficult to remove them without a trace.

Now textiles are more suitable for dust removal. good quality, as you may have guessed, with the use of microfiber (“microfiber”), the main requirement is perfect cleanliness (it is better to take a new napkin directly from the package) and the minimum fiber size. Special wipes from Defender cope with this task very well, but there is no fundamental difference.

The engineer from MacPlus, who cleaned the matrix with us, asked us to take the backlight itself, that is, the light-scattering layers, especially seriously: by default, they are perfectly aligned, but if you accidentally touch them during cleaning, it will hardly be possible to achieve such accuracy again, therefore before starting the cleaning itself, we additionally secured the layers with the usual technical clamps (they can be found in Household Goods, on radio markets or in the same Chip-and-Dip).

After making sure that not a single speck of dust is left, we reassemble the display module and put it in place. Beforehand (even before you have tightened all the screws into the display case), it is recommended to turn on the screen and check if there are any small specks or dust left on it, since it is much more difficult to replace defects in the off state.

After making sure that everything is in order with the display, we finish its assembly.

A few more minutes - and we got a "new" thin iMac with a perfectly clean matrix, without any traces of opening. As you can see, I didn't have to change it. And is it worth it every 1-1.5 years to buy a new, far from cheap display, on which, most likely, the problem will reappear? minimize the possibility of the problem reoccurring. Extra sealing is never superfluous, right?

Of course, it is better to perform such work with experience, in a pre-prepared place, observing the maximum possible cleanliness, otherwise dust particles flying in the air will nullify all your efforts. To open thin iMacs, you may need a special tool (reminiscent of a pizza cutter), which is sold by our foreign colleagues from iFixit, but you can do without it if you wish.

By the way, during the execution of the “procedure”, we spied a few more interesting cases: MacPlus not only cleans matrices - colleagues have enough experience to fix problems with power, backlight, clean and repair flooded or burnt motherboards, in a word - they can perform absolutely any Apple repair. Let's hope that we will return here soon, because the guys definitely have something to talk about.
