Laptop startup error “… cooling fan is not operating correctly. … System Fan (90b) ”

# Systemfan90B # hpdv6 # hpdv7. Unfortunately, some well-known manufacturers of digital technology (not only laptops) from time to time come out with truly "folk models". Those. equipment, which is affordable for most of the population, has no competitors in its category in terms of quality and functionality.

Conversely, there are clearly unsuccessful product lines with a specific factory defect or "weak point".

For laptops HP Pavilion DV6 6000 series and HP pavilion DV7 6000 series and g6 the weak point is the cooling system. From this point on - a little more detail.

Also this problem described in this blog.

Problem number 1 - the fan is faulty

Fan, aka cooler- from the English. coolig fan-cooling fan.

This is not the first time clients have come to us with a problem when their Pavilion DV6,Pavilion DV7-6xxx or HP g6 does not turn on, and an error message with a code appears on the screen System Fan (90B).

The message itself looks like this:

“The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.

Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shutdown in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now.

System Fan (908)

ENTER - Continue startup

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/teachcenter/startup "

This message and error code indicate that the cooling fan did not start and in order not to overheat the laptop, it is recommended not to turn on the device, then the laptop will automatically turn off after 15 seconds. However, you can ignore the message and continue turning on by pressing the Enter key.

True, in this case, the laptop will still shut down without booting to the desktop from overheating.

Fans on HP Notebook Series DV6-6000, G6 and DV7-6000 are weak and, after a short period of operation, become faulty. And if you consider that the users themselves do not clean them from dust, this increases the chances of a malfunction.

Solution to the problem: in 90% of cases - replacing the fan (cooler).

Replace cooler(fan) on HP DV6, DV7, HP pavilion g6 can be in any service center your city. Our service center is no exception. Replacing the fan, along with work, usually costs about 2 thousand rubles (in your city, the cost may differ)

You can replace the fan yourself. On the one hand, you do everything at your own peril and risk, and on the other, you save 800 rubles, or even more. All that remains is to buy a cooler for the HP DV6-6000 (DV7-6000) G6 and find the disassembly instructions (links below).

Disassembly instructions for hp pavilion dv6 are on youtube, here it is:

In the same place, on youtube, you can find the same instructions for disassembling dv7 and G6

Here is a video tutorial for g6:

Buy fan for Dv6-6000 (also fits DV7-6000) in our online store: original fan MF60120V1-C180-S9A or compatible fan KSB0505HB.

You can buy a fan for HP G42, G56, G62, CQ42, CQ56, CQ62, CQ72, G72, Pavilion G4, G6, G7 laptop in the same place: MF75120V1-C050-S9A.

The fan for G6 is different from dv6 and dv7. Pay attention to this. If you need a fan on the HP G6, you can buy this:

This cooler is suitable for laptops: HP G42, G56, G62, CQ42, CQ56, CQ62, CQ72, G72, Pavilion G4-1000, G4-1100, G4-1200, G6-1000, G6-1100, G6-1200, G7- 1000, G7-1100, G7-1200, G7-1300

Problem # 2 - HP pavilion dv6-6000, dv7-6000, and HP G6 laptops get very hot

And they do not just heat up - they overheat, right up to shutdown.

This problem can have one of three reasons:

  1. The fan has already started to work unstable (short stops, uneven speed) and soon you will encounter error 90B, which inevitably entails replacement of the fan.
  2. The fan rotates at the same speed and at low revs, and when the load on the processor increases, the revs will not increase. In this case, you do not hear the usual roar of blades when you start a game or video, and the laptop turns off 2-10 minutes after starting a "heavy" application.
  3. The cooling system radiator is clogged with dust. And no matter how fast the fan rotates, there is nowhere for hot air to escape (the radiator grille is clogged) and it remains in the laptop case near the processor and video chip. In addition, by the time the radiator is clogged with dust and wool, the factory heat-conducting paste is already drying up, which also worsens cooling.

To be fair, it should be noted that problem number 3 is inherent for 90% of laptops and can be solved by cleaning the HP laptop in a service center or on your own.

When starting the laptop, it appears error message: System Fan (90b)

The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.

Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now.

System Fan (90b)

Translation of error text

The system has detected that the cooling fan is not working properly.

Continuing operation is not recommended and may lead to unpredictable results and may result in accidental shutdown, data loss, or system damage. The system will turn off after 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue working, press the Enter key now.

System fan (90b)

System Fan Cooler Error (90b)

In addition to the System Fan error (90b), the system fan may spin faster and louder.

System Fan (90b) error means that the problem is related to the heat dissipation system. There are 2 options here:

  1. The system fan does not spin correctly.
  2. The temperature inside the case is too high and the fan cannot dissipate heat quickly enough.

The System Fan error message (90b) appears to help prevent costly damage to your computer.

To fix this error, follow these steps:

If you notice that the system cooler hums and blows warm air out of the laptop, then you need to clean the radiator grill through the external vents using compressed air. This should be done very carefully and with the laptop turned off. Dust can accumulate in the vents and around internal cooling components, preventing heat dissipation. After the dust has been removed, try turning on the laptop and look for an error.

Performance hard reset... Performing a hard reset can reset the recorded thermal values in memory and allow the computer to be used again - even if only for a short time to access and save all important files before servicing.

Laptop repair and maintenance to clean internal components and replace the fan if necessary. Note maintenance algorithm:

  • dust from all internal cooling components
  • the wires from the fan are connected to the motherboard securely
  • the cooler blades are intact. If problem persists, replace system fan
  • remove old thermal grease from integrated circuits and heat sinks, and replace with new thermal grease

HP pavilion DV6, DV7, G6, G7 notebooks- one of the most common models in the Russian Federation. For the same reason, these laptops are more likely than others to carry for repair to our service center.

For notebooks of these series, the weak point is the cooling system. Here we will dwell in a little more detail.

Fan, aka cooler- from the English. coolig fan-cooling fan. It is located inside the laptop case and its task is to cool copper tubes that remove heat from laptop processors (CPU, GPU).

The cooler is the most wearing part in a laptop, and if not properly maintained, it often breaks down. In addition to everything at HP these fans (by the way, the manufacturer is Sunnon) are rather weak.

This is not the first time they have addressed us with a problem when Pavilion DV6,Pavilion DV7-6xxx or HP g6 turns on, and an error message with a code appears on the screen System Fan (90B).

But even with a working fan - HP dv6, dv7, g6 and 7 get hot, and they don't just get warm - they overheat, right up to shutdown.

In light of the above:

  • HP pavilion notebook PCs need to be cleaned once a year and thermal paste replaced
  • On game models with video cards from ATi and AMD, for the summer it is better to buy a cooling pad
  • Do not use the HP pavilion in dusty environments or in the sun.

When turning on the laptop, the error “The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly. … System Fan (90b). ”

HP Pavilion Notebook g6-2211sr. Its weak point is the cooling system.

If you continue to turn on or reset the BIOS and then continue, it will turn on, but then turn off. The next time it is turned on, the error “Thermal shutdown occurred” will be added, as if the previous shutdown was due to overheating.

The laptop is very hot to the touch. We check the temperature: a couple of minutes after turning it on, it reaches 75 degrees on the motherboard, 119 on the processor.

Cleaning from dust is required, replacement of thermal paste

These errors mean either that the system fan does not rotate correctly or does not start, or the temperature inside the case is too high and the fan cannot dissipate heat quickly enough.

119 degrees on the processor, in which case the laptop had to turn itself off.

Google the working temperature on AMD processor A4-4300M - no more than 60 degrees in idle, no more than 80-90 under load.

We disassemble and look. The old thermal paste has dried up, there is not much dust, we clean everything and apply a new thermal paste.

We collect the laptop, check it. After cleaning 90 degrees, idle. Not felt at all to the touch. Cleaning helped a little. The message disappeared when turning on the laptop, but another problem appeared.

Sensor buggy? BIOS update

We see that the temperature on the motherboard and video card dropped to 40 degrees. Probably the sensor is buggy.

In Intel microprocessors, the temperature sensor is a thermal diode or transistor with a closed collector and a base as a thermal diode, in AMD microprocessors - a thermistor.

Or the sensor itself is buggy, which is built into motherboard, or BIOS incorrectly displays, takes readings from the sensor. This usually happens with new models of processors, when the BIOS cannot really recognize it and at the same time is mistaken with the temperature readings.

To solve the problem in case of an erroneous reading, you can update the BIOS. So we will do it. On the Hp website on our laptop model, download latest firmware... Everything is updated very simply, we run the downloaded file from under the system.

From 2015 F12 I upgraded to 2016 F2A. Reset the BIOS and set Disabled in the CPU Warning Temperature line (on some models). The update helped. The temperature shows 56 degrees.

Please note that the program for checking the temperature may also show an incorrect result, it is better to look at it in several, I look with the help of AIDA64 and HWMonitor.

Fan needs replacement

Most often, in HP laptops, the solution to the problem with the error, the cooling fan is not operating problem, is correctly solved by replacing the fan or its lubrication (if it is difficult to rotate).

We didn't get to that, but it could be. On aliexpress, this costs 300-450 rubles, we have an average of 450.

Many HP, Lenovo, ASUS and Compaq laptops may get an error when turning on System Fan (90B)... In this case, if you press the "Enter" button, then further will begin Windows boot... If you do not press the key, the laptop will automatically shut down itself after 15 seconds.

What does this mean? That there is a problem with the cooling and heat removal system mobile computer... There are two immediate reasons: either the fan on the processor is covered, or the radiator is so clogged with dust that the cooling system simply cannot cope with the situation.

How to fix System Fan Error 90B ?!

If the reason is a strong clogging of the fan or radiator with dust, then usually it is enough just to unscrew the cover of the technical hole above the processor and thoroughly blow out the entire cooling system. A can of compressed air is best suited for this. In the absence of this, a simple rubber bulb will come down. The fan is best cleaned with a damp cotton swab.

But if it emits sounds and bounces during operation, then the situation is much worse. You can try to disassemble it and lubricate it with machine oil or WD-40. But usually this is not enough for a long time and one cannot do without replacing it with a new one.

Sometimes, although very rarely, the reason for the message "System Fan (90B)" when booting the laptop may be a failure of the BIOS or or the cooling sensor. It is easy to check it - just look at whether the cooler is spinning visually and observe the temperature of the device using specialized monitoring programs such as SpeedFan. If the temperature is normal, then, most likely, the BIOS is buggy.

Then you can try to simply disable the system fan check. The parameter "CPU FAN Check" in the section "Hardware Monitor" or "PC Health" is responsible for this. But do not forget to monitor the temperature of the computer yourself.
