Installing windows 7 on mac without bootcamp. Apple educational program: how to install Windows on MacBook Air

The easiest and most affordable way to install Windows on a Mac is to use Boot Camp. Boot Camp is a special application from Apple for installing WindowsXP / Windows7 or 8 by dividing the hard drive into 2 partitions, one for each system. The transition from one system to another is possible only by restarting the computer.

In order to install Windows on your Mac, you will need:

1 MacBook Rro / MacBook Air / IMac with Mac OS installed;

2 USB media (flash drive (at least 4 Gb) or external hard drive) / DVD disk (transfer all information from USB media (flash drive or external hard drive), since in the future everything on the media will be deleted after formatting);

3 Disk with Windows 7 operating system or its ISO image (can be downloaded from the Internet);

4 This article and about an hour of free time.

Attention!!! If you are going to install Windows using a USB flash drive on a Mac late 2013 and newer (they use all USB 3.0 ports) you will need to use a USB 3.0 flash drive. Otherwise, when installing Windows, your USB ports and wireless keyboard will not be active.

Turn on your Mac and install the latest updates. To do this, click on the apple (left, top corner) and select "Software Update".

After you have installed all the updates, proceed to the next step, launch Boot Camp. To do this, click on search (the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner) and enter there "Boot Camp", among the found click on "Boot Camp Assistant".

In the opened window Boot Camp Assistant, read, information and click "Proceed".

In the next window, you need to select the settings for installing Windows7, more precisely, how you will install.

Installing on Mac Windows7 using a disc

Installing on Mac Windows7 using a USB stick / external hard drive

If you have a DWD disk with the Windows7 operating system, you must select the last two items, namely - Download the latest Windows Support Software from Apple(loads drivers for Windows7) and Install Windows7(allows you to determine the size of the volume where Windows7 will be installed and when you reboot, it boots from DWD).

Leave the default folder name WindowsSupport all drivers will be saved in it and select the medium on which all files will be saved (in this example, this is a USB flash drive).

Then enter your computer administrator credentials and click "Add Helper".

After that, the process of downloading drivers will be launched.

If you have an ISO image on your computer, in this case you must leave all the checkboxes. Particularly for MacBook Air, this method is very convenient, since it does not have a DWD drive and installation from a USB flash drive / USB hard drive would be more reasonable.

Button "Choose" specify the path to the ISO image of Windows7.

Then a warning window will appear, stating that your disk / USB device will be formatted and all information will be deleted from it.

After that, the USB drive will be formatted and the installation files and drivers will be copied to it.

The next step is to specify the amount of disk space for Windows 7, for this it is enough to move the slider and determine the size of the partition for the Windows operating system and click "Install".

After that, the computer / laptop will reboot and the Windows 7 installation process will begin at boot (it is no different from installing on any other computer).

The only thing I would like to add is that when choosing a volume on which the operating system will be installed, be extremely careful not to delete the existing partitions. Just format the BOOTCAMP partition and start the Windows 7 installation.

After installing Windows 7, go to the USB drive, in it you will see the folder WindowSupport(it contains drivers for Windows), run the file setup.exe.

In the next window, read the License Agreement, accept it and click "Further".

After that, you will be prompted to additionally install Apple Software Update, you can leave a check mark and click "Install".

After that, the process of installing all the drivers will begin, it does not require your participation, just at the end a window will appear about the completion of the installation. Push the button "To complete".

Then there will be a window about the need to restart the computer, click "Yes".

After rebooting, you will have Windows7 completely ready to work.

Let me remind you that Mac OS, in this installation option, remains (your device has two systems Mac OS and Windows 7). By default, you will always boot Windows 7, but if you decide to boot under Mac OS, for this you need to restart your computer / laptop and hold down the button while loading "Alt"... After that, you will be asked under which operating system to boot your computer / laptop.

Then on Windows download your tutorial, open the archive and follow the instructions.

Microsoft and Apple operating systems are the leading distribution systems in the world. At the same time, the share of Windows is 82.5%, and macOS - 12.5%. Given this ratio, there is nothing surprising in the fact that corporate software is developed mainly for Microsoft products. As an example, we can take the 1C Enterprise platform, which does not have a desktop version for macOS. Installing Windows on Mac as a second OS helps to solve this problem.

The tasks requiring the use of a second operating system on a MacBook are different. Depending on which programs you intend to use, you can choose one of the available options:

  • OS installation on a dedicated hard disk partition using the built-in Bootcamp utility. In this case, the user, having booted into Windows, can fully use all the hardware resources of the laptop. Suitable for working with resource-intensive applications;
  • use of virtualization technologies. The most convenient option is offered by Parallels Desktop. With Coherence mode, Windows programs can be used without rebooting right in the macOS environment. In full screen mode, the user can switch between the two operating systems as between different desktops. In this case, hardware resources are limited by the user himself.

Let's take a look at how to install and use Windows in both options.

Boot Camp Assistant

Users who have had to install two operating systems know that Windows does not tolerate "competitors", overwriting their boot sector. Even two different operating systems from Microsoft do not get along well with each other, fighting for boot priority. Apple solved this problem in an original way by introducing the Boot Camp utility into the system. It comes standard on both iMac and MacBook Air, Rro, and Retina 12-inch editions.

  1. Before we start installing Windows, let's check that our Mac meets the hardware requirements. Click on the apple logo in the menu bar and open the computer information. We look at the model and year of manufacture indicated in the screenshot.
  1. We go to the technical support page. For example, let's check the ability to install Windows 10.
  1. We open the list and check for compliance. Our model falls into the group marked in the screenshot as "later", released in 2016.
  1. Launch Finder, find the Utilities folder in the programs and open it. The Boot Camp Assistant we need is marked with a frame. Before running it, make sure that the system is updated to the latest High Sierra build and that the latest versions of other Apple software are installed. This is a prerequisite for the utility to work properly.
  1. The first window is informational. Make sure your MacBook is connected to an electrical outlet as recommended.
  1. Specify the location of the ISO file with the Windows distribution obtained from the Microsoft website Clicking on the point indicated by the arrow between the hard disk partitions, set the required size. After completing the preparation, press the "Install" button.
  1. The system automatically loads the required hardware drivers. Some MacBooks may require a USB flash drive to store support software. For older Pro models equipped with a DVD drive, the ISO file of the distribution must be burned onto a disc. Installing Windows on them from a clean image is not supported and you cannot do without external media.
  1. After completing the preparatory operations, macOS will ask for confirmation to partition the hard drive.
  1. The computer will reboot and launch the standard Windows installer. Further steps are no different from installing this OS on a regular PC. The last step activates the Boot Camp Wizard. All the drivers necessary for the operation of the second system are contained in one package, which was loaded before partitioning the disk. As a result of the operations performed on the MacBook, a BootCamp section was created, on which Windows will "live".

Switching between the two operating systems is performed by rebooting with the Option key pressed. At startup, the computer will display a selection menu. By moving the arrow-shaped pointer, we select the system that we will use.

If you've gotten used to gesture control in macOS, it's time to think about the mouse. It is impossible to work without it on a MacBook in Windows. For all Microsoft's tweaks, the system doesn't support even a fifth of the trackpad's capabilities.

Deleting a BootCamp Partition

When you no longer need to use a second operating system, you can delete the BootCamp partition along with Windows. The operation is fast and does not require a reboot.

Mac OS Extended

The file system used by Apple prior to macOS High Sierra is called HFS + or Mac OS Extended. If your Mac uses a regular hard drive, it remains unchanged after the upgrade.

  1. Launch Boot Camp Assistant and skip the first information window. At the stage of choosing actions, we check that the checkmark is only in the place indicated by the arrow. Click "Continue".
  1. The system shows a new disk partitioning scheme. As you can see, the BootCamp section is no longer on it. Click on the "Restore" button.
  1. Confirm your desire to change the partition scheme by entering the password.
  1. The operation is accompanied by the appearance of a bar with a progress indicator. After a few minutes, you will see the following window.

The disk again consists of a single partition and there are no traces of Windows presence on it.

APFS

After upgrading to macOS High Sierra on Macs using SSDs, the file system changes to AFPS. This file system is better optimized for solid state drives and is the default on all new Apple computers. However, when trying to delete the Windows partition using the method described above, the user will receive an error. The system will refer to the impossibility of performing the operation, since the boot volume is formatted in a FS other than HFS +.

  1. Open the Boot Camp neighbor in the Utilities folder.
  1. In the navigation area, select the volume that hosts Windows. Press the "Erase" button marked with an arrow.
  1. We confirm the choice made.
  1. After successful completion of the operation, close the informational message.
  1. Press the checkmarked button. Use the “-” sign indicated by the arrow to delete the extra BootCamp and “*” partitions.
  1. The disk layout should look like this. Click the "Apply" button.
  1. As you can see in the screenshot, the operation was successful. We were able to delete the Windows partition and return the SSD to its original state.

Parallels Desktop is the premier virtualization solution for macOS. With its help, you can install any version of Windows or Linux and use the necessary software that works only in these operating systems.

  1. Since we have already downloaded the ISO image for installation on Boot Camp, we select the checked item in the wizard.
  1. We specify the location of the distribution kit manually or let the program find it automatically.
  1. Enter the existing Windows digital license key.
  1. Here we can configure the allocation of disk space, memory, use of network resources and peripherals. The specified parameters should not be lower than the minimum requirements for a PC by Microsoft. For example, for RAM, this value is 2 GB. After the pre-configuration is completed, the Windows installer will start.
  1. After completing the required installation steps, you get a second operating system on your Mac as a virtual machine. The buttons marked in the left corner of the window are responsible for the operation mode. Green expands Windows to full screen mode and externally it will look like a regular desktop, occupying a separate workspace. Blue activates full compatibility mode. It allows you to open Windows applications directly on the Mac desktop.
    1. You can keep the files for later use or completely delete them in the trash.

    Using the built-in snapshot function, you can test any software on a VM without worrying about the integrity of the system. You can return it to its original state in several movements.

    Finally

    As you can see, installing Windows on a MacBook as a second system is an easy task. The choice of use case depends only on the hardware resource requirements of the software [.

    Video instruction

    The videos below will give you a better understanding of the intricacies of installing and using Windows OC on Mac computers.

Installing Windows on Mac OS is possible and quite simple if you are prepared for this matter. In this article we will tell you how to install Windows on Mac OS - possible methods and options, as well as additional information and subtleties of the process.

MacOS users may have a need to use the Windows operating system, for several reasons, ranging from the habit of using Microsoft's OS, to the need to use special software that is intended only for working in Windows. In order not to buy a new device, but to take advantage of the excellent characteristics of the hardware and the use of the desired system, in macOS it is possible to use several systems on one device.

What should you do before installing another OS?

  • Find out about the compatibility of hardware and OS versions (compatibility with Windows 10 and compatibility with the 7th version of the system).
  • Check for macOS updates and utilities and update if found.

Boot Camp

You can install Windows 10 on Mac OS Sierra through the special BootCamp utility.

Utility Boot Camp Assistant- Software from Apple, which allows you to create an additional partition on the disk for installing an additional OS and further use.

Before installing, you must download the image of the desired Windows system. You can do this on the official Microsoft website.

  • Go to the download page of the Windows 10 image (or 7th version, but you will need a key here).
  • Select the desired system and language, and then start downloading the image.

To start Boot Camp, open Programs - Utilities and select Boot Camp Assistant.

In the Boot Camp window, you will need to select the amount of free space that will be allocated for Windows. When choosing, we recommend starting from your needs - whether you will play games and install "heavy" applications, or rarely use the system.

It is worth noting that if you allocate 100 GB of free space in Boot Camp, after installing the system, about 75 Gb will be available to you.

In the line ISO-disk image, specify the path to the downloaded system image. Click the "Install" button and the software download will begin for further configuration.

After rebooting the device, the standard Windows installation process will begin. On the example of the "ten", let's look at the main points.

  • Initially, agree to the terms of the persons agreement.
  • Select the version and bitness of the OS.
  • At the stage of choosing a partition where files will be copied, you need to select a partition called BootCamp.

  • The process of copying files and preparing the main components of the system will begin.

  • At the end of all reboots, you will be greeted by the system presetting window, where you will need to specify the Microsoft account to log in to the system, if there is none, create a local profile. You will also need to specify the privacy settings, which are recommended to be disabled - this will speed up the device a little and Microsoft will receive less of your data.
  • When finished, you will be greeted by the Windows desktop and a small BootCamp application window. You will need to allow the application to configure the system drivers so that the screen resolution becomes correct and all components, such as network connection, Bluetooth and others.

Installing Windows 7 on a Mac via BootCamp is done in the same way, with the only difference being the welcome screen and the initial screen.
It is also worth knowing a few additional facts about Boot Camp if you want to know how to install Windows on a Mac using BootCamp:

  • Updating all device drivers necessary for correct operation is also performed through Boot Camp.
  • It is recommended that you initially download the required driver package from the Apple website.
  • The system will be fast and responsive, making the most of the device's resources. It is also unlikely that there will be problems from the drivers, since Apple is very important and attentive to this. But no one canceled bugs and problems on the part of "Windows", although on the 10th version, there are fewer and fewer problems (until the release of a major update).
  • Using macOS and Windows at the same time is impossible, since the device can work and use resources with only one running system. And here virtualization tools come to the rescue, which will be discussed below.

Important! Occasionally, when installing Windows on Mac, the no Bootable device error may appear. To fix this problem, use the following tips:

  • Using a legal image (no pirated assemblies).
  • Try changing the boot priority on MacOS and retry the installation.
  • Try using USB drives or ISO files when using Boot Camp.

Parallels Desktop

There are situations where you might need to install Windows 7 or 10 on a Mac without using BootCamp. For example, when you need to use both MacOS and Windows at the same time, but having 2 devices is too expensive and inconvenient. Virtualization tools will come to the rescue, one of which is Parallels Desktop for Mac.

Parallels Desktop is a software solution for creating a virtual machine and then installing Windows, Linux and other operating systems. Allows you to use a different operating system without rebooting the device and enjoy the functionality of different OS at the same time.

At the moment, the latest version of Parallels Desktop 14 is available at a price of 4,990 rubles.

The application has truly outstanding functionality:

  • Common desktop for Windows and MacOS.
  • Using Win-applications in the MacOS interface without the need to launch a virtual machine.
  • Backup, shared clipboard, Drag-n-Drop, a huge toolkit for working with a "window" OS, and much more.

Together with Parallels Desktop, you will learn how to quickly put Windows 10 on a Mac with a second system with just the click of a button. What do I need to do:

  • Download and install the trial version of Parallels Desktop from the official website.
  • And click Install to start

  • And at the end of all procedures, there will be a notification about the successful completion of the installation

The developers have made sure that the process is as simple and fast as possible for Mac users. We will also analyze how you can perform a clean installation of Windows 7 or 10 on Mac OS high sierra or later using Parallels, using the example of version 11:

  • Launch Parallels Desktop and choose Install.

  • Specify the path to the installation disk, USB stick or system image.

  • You can choose an express installation of the system, which will require from you only the system key and a minimum of steps. Or you can uncheck the express installation and set up the process yourself.

  • You can choose not only the number of active cores, RAM or storage memory, but also video memory, system usage, boot priority and much more.

  • After that, the standard installation procedure will begin. You will need to select a language and select an installation location.

  • After that, Windows 7 will be successfully installed. You only need to give a name to the profile and PC, create a password (if required), enter the activation key, configure the time and settings for connecting to the Internet.
  • The system is ready to use

The application is really very functional and we solve many problems at once. But if you do not have 5 thousand rubles to buy a license, we will show you another way how to install Windows 7.10 on Mac OS using VMware virtualization.

Oracle Virtualbox

VM VirtualBox is a virtualization tool from Oracle. A free app that lets you run Windows 7 or 10 without a separate installation on Mac or BootCamp. The functionality is not as rich as that of Parallels Desktop, but this solution is free and will allow you to use 2 systems at the same time. What is needed for this:

  • Download and install VM VirtualBox for OS X hosts from the official website.
  • Download the image of the desired system, for example "Ten"
  • Create a new virtual machine. Enter the name, type and version of the OS

  • Set the amount of RAM

  • Set the amount of storage for the virtual machine and specify the disk type as VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)

  • After the virtual machine is created, click on the "Settings" settings.

  • In the "Storage" tab, specify the path to the loaded OS image, and then start the virtual machine.

  • The standard system installation procedure will begin. The order can be found in the paragraph about Boot Camp.

As you can see from this article, instead of Mac OS, it is quite easy to install Windows 7, 8 or 10, you just need to choose the option that is convenient for you. Using all the power of the device, but put up with only one active OS, or the full use of all the advantages of Windows and MacOS, but with insignificant performance losses.

Have a great day!

For a long time, experts in the field of computer technology have noted the priority of Apple in the field of personal computer development.

From the mid-70s of the last century to the present day, Apple competes with IBM in the field of computer technology. In the old fashioned way, their computers are called "Macs", despite the fact that the real Macintosh is already of museum value.

Their technical solutions are shamelessly copied by eminent manufacturers. Macs are reliable and functional. At the same time, the Windows operating system is more familiar, so a number of users need to install Windows 7 on MAC OS.

The popularity of Apple computers

The main differences between Apple's developments:

  • "Closed" architecture;
  • high reliability and ease of use;
  • ease of working with graphics and printing;
  • the leader of innovations in the computer industry.

MacBook belongs to the family of popular notebooks developed by Apple. The latest MacBook is functional, compact and quiet. The dimensions are striking: the thickness is about 13 mm, the weight is up to 1 kg. The developers were able to abandon the use of fans in the design, create a new motherboard with a high density of elements.

The keyboard has a high stability of the press release mechanism, the keys are individually backlit. The 13 ”Retina display is exceptionally thin and reproduces high-resolution images. The touchpad panel is very sensitive to touch, able to distinguish the degree of pressure when touched. The battery capacity has been increased by optimizing the case design.

Aluminum parts create a strong and reliable fastening mechanism for the rotary housing part. The use of the new USB-C connector for charging, video and sound playback, data transfer also allows ensuring the declared geometric parameters of the product.

Two ways to install

There are two installation methods: using Apple's own Boot Camp software and using the Virtualbox virtual machine.

Boot Camp offers the user the following sequence of operations for installing the Windows operating environment:

The virtualbox machine emulates the work:

  • BIOS;
  • random access memory;
  • hard drive;
  • peripheral devices.

For computers developed for the Windows platform, used to install a system other than MAC OSX. The program is distributed free of charge.

Installing Windows 7 on MAC OS X via Boot Camp

Installation requirements:

  • the hardware platform must be connected to the Internet;
  • an OS X administrator account is used to access Boot Camp Assistant;
  • have a working keyboard, mouse, trackpad;
  • 2 GB or more of RAM and 30 GB or more of disk space must be available for the initial installation of Windows; 40 GB or more are required to update earlier versions of Windows;
  • an installation disc for Microsoft Windows is required when installing via a built-in or external DVD drive;
  • you may need a USB drive with a capacity of 8 GB or more to install drivers.

What is necessary?

Installation requires:

System update

Installing Windows 7 typically requires Boot Camp Assistant (BCA) version 4 for a 32-bit platform and version 5 for a 64-bit platform. Update Boot Camp software to install the latest Windows drivers on your Mac.

This can be done in two ways:

Logging into the BCA program may require knowledge of an account with administrator rights.

In the "AutoPlay" pop-up window, click "VBoxWindows Additions.exe" and follow the program settings.

You can exit the VM by performing the following sequence of operations:

  • select the "Machine" item in the virtual machine menu;
  • then go to the item "Close";
  • go to off.

The start of the already installed Windows 7 is carried out by the "Start" button of the main program window. There are two ways to install the Windows 7 operating system on mac os: the Boot Camp tool, which is Apple's development, and through the VirtualBox virtual machine. A more transparent installation is done by Boot Camp.

Computers of the well-known Apple company are very multifunctional and have a wide selection of specially developed software. But sometimes it happens that a Mac or iMac user wants to install the already so familiar Windows operating system. Sometimes OS Windows may be needed to install some programs so that you can play your favorite games, but there is no suitable alternative for Mac.

You can install the OS yourself. This can be done in several ways, for example, through a utility or using a flash drive. Let's take an example of applications from Apple called Bootcamp, Parallels Desktop and Virtual Box.

Preparing and installing Bootcamp

This option allows you to install an additional OS on Mac and iMac in a separately created partition on the hard disk. You can choose which system to boot into during startup. The advantage of this utility is that by installing the program through it, all the resources of your PC will be available for Windows, this will allow you to use the Mac's performance to the maximum. The computer will easily play the most modern games and perform complex tasks.

Before installing an additional OS, keep in mind that it will take up a lot of hard disk space. Make sure it has the correct gigabytes on it. On average, you may need about 30 Gb.

Before you start installing the operating system on your iMac or Mac, check and prepare the Boot camp. First, make sure that all updates from Apple are installed on it. To do this, you need to do the following:

During the launch of the utility, you will be able to select the location where the Windows OS will be installed. Before starting the software, you should close all open applications and programs.

After the utility and flash drives for copying information are ready, you can proceed to the first steps:

After copying all the files, your iMac will automatically restart. Next, to display the boot manager, press and hold the Alt key. A disk menu will open on the Mac, designate the partition with the name of the operating system. This will be followed by OS startup and setting parameters.

To install Windows 8, you need to proceed in the same way. Only in the window « Choice of actions"Check the boxes next to the items" Download the latest software" and " Create disk for installing Windows 7 or new».

Installing Windows on a Mac, or rather, setting up a program, begins with choosing a language. Choose the correct language right away, otherwise you will have to do all the actions again. Having selected all the parameters in this window, click the Next button, which is located in the lower right corner.

Follow these instructions carefully to install the Windows operating system on your Mac. During the process, do not restart or shut down your computer. You cannot interrupt the procedure in any way.

After your iMac restarts a second time, you can begin installing the drivers you want. To do this, download them back from the USB flash drive, install and run the installation program.

Installing Windows via Bootcamp using a USB flash drive

Installation can be carried out either using the operating system disk or via a USB drive. To download a program from a USB flash drive to a Mac, you must first download it. If we are talking about Windows 8, then the version of this system must be in iso format.

This installation option on Mac and iMac is no different from the previous one. Before starting the action, you should also check the bootcamp for updates and save all the necessary data. The following instruction will help you complete the task:

But it happens that when the installation media is a USB flash drive, the utility requires you to insert a disc with the program and refuses to continue the steps of downloading the software to the iMac. In this case, you can download the Daemon Tools Lite iMac driver. With its help we mount the iso-image of Windows, it will serve as a virtual drive and then Bootcamp will complete the installation process of our OS without any problems.

Installing Windows on Mac and iMac via Parallels Desktop

In addition to Boot Camp, there are several more options for installing an additional operating system. For example, you can use the program Parallels Desktop which is the virtual machine for installing Windows. You will be able to run Windows programs without restarting your PC.

Install Windows using VirtualBox

VirtualBox is one of the popular virtualization programs. With its help, two operating systems will easily work on your PC at once. Installing an additional OS via VirtualBox is fairly straightforward.

To get started, enter the VirtualBox query into the search system, go to the official website and download the program. Upon completion of the installation, click on the program icon and select "Create". After that, you can start installing Windows.

Sometimes it happens that after installing an additional operating system, the iMac has problems with sound or video playback. To solve this problem, you need to install on the Mac all the drivers that were previously saved to an additional storage device (disk or flash drive).

After all the steps taken, the installation of Windows on the Mac is completely finished. Restart the program and everything will definitely work.
