The continuous development of the mobile phone market leads to the fact that new models of smartphones are constantly coming out. The rapidly growing company MEIZU also constantly offers users more advanced lines of its devices. However, earlier MEIZU models are still in demand and attractive, which is achieved thanks to the support of the relevance of software in the company's products. In particular, the company regularly releases updates for its proprietary Flyme shell.

For example, Meizu M2 Mini is very popular among users, the firmware of which can be updated regularly, due to which the phone does not lose its relevance, although it was released in 2015. This review will be devoted to the theme of the firmware of the aforementioned phone. There are many firmware modifications for it, in particular:

  1. Firmware International is multilingual, including support for the Russian language. It is focused on the European market.
  2. Universal Public- this is a universal firmware provided for various phone models, and is also suitable for Meise M2 Mini. The only thing worth noting is that it lacks support for the Russian language.
  3. Unicom imprisoned for the original Chinese firmware and also devoid of the Russian language.

In addition to official firmware, there are a large number of custom ones that are developed by users themselves. It is worth warning that the installation of custom ones must be approached very consciously, since the installation of low-quality software can lead to phone malfunctions.

Before starting the installation, it is necessary to carry out a preparatory stage, which is no less important than the installation itself. First you need to make a backup of the data from the phone, as they will be completely lost. In order to do this, you need:

  1. Go to " Settings”, then go to the section “ Personal» and select « Memory and backups» .
  2. Go to section " Other» and select the function « Copy and restore» .
  3. Next, you need to select the storage where the data will be transferred by selecting " Choose a storage location". After that, you need to select the marks opposite the type of data that you want to copy. After checking all files, you need to click " Start copying» .

It will be easy to transfer all deleted data from the phone back to it after the update, acting on the above points, only in the last paragraph instead of " Start copying» you will need to select « Restore» .

The firmware process itself can be divided into the following stages:

  1. Download the firmware from the official site.
  2. Check the file name and extension.
  3. Launch smartphone in recovery mode ».
  4. Restart your Meizu smartphone.

Let's consider each item separately.

Download firmware from the official site

Before downloading the installer file, you need to prepare the phone, in particular, you need to make sure that the phone has a full battery charge. To download the official version, you need to go to the manufacturer's website and select the latest firmware version. The downloaded file must be saved in the root of the device's memory.

After the file has been downloaded, it is essential to make sure that the file has the correct name and extension, otherwise the installation may fail or not start at all. To check the name, you need to go to the root of memory and find a file called "update.zip". If the installation file has a different name, the error " Firmware not found» .

We start the smartphone in Recovery mode

In order to start the phone in the " recovery mode", you need to turn it off completely, and then press and hold two keys at once -" Turning on"and the top of the rocker" Volume” - until the name of the phone or the inscription “ System Upgrade". After that, a field with firmware settings will open. In the field that appears, select " System UpgradeStart”, after which the firmware will begin to install.

The installation process is quite lengthy and may take a certain amount of time. During the installation phase, you can not use the phone on your own without the need to turn it on or off. At the end of the installation, the smartphone will reboot automatically, after which you will need to make some settings: select a language, connect to the network and other actions.

Using a computer

Installation using a computer is in many ways similar to the above method and consists of the same steps. A computer is also needed in the case when the firmware using the phone is fraught with any difficulties. Special utilities that help you install the firmware correctly will help optimize this process.

Download firmware

Before download setup file you need to configure the synchronization of the smartphone with the computer. The following steps should be taken:

  1. You need to turn on the " USB Debugging» . To do this, you need to go to Settings» and select « About phone” at the bottom of the list.
  2. Next, tap five times on the item " Firmware version: Flyme until the notification appears You are now in developer mode».
  3. After that, you need to return to the item " Settings» and enter the section « System", in which you need to select " Specialist. opportunities» .
  4. Next, go to the function For developers", where you need to put the switch in active mode" USB Debugging» .

Next, you need to download the file with the firmware to your computer (the download process from the official website of the manufacturer is described above). If it is not possible to save the firmware to the phone, then save it to the root of the memory card and insert it into the phone.

Checking the file name and extension

When downloading a file from the official website of Meizu, it will have the name and extension " update.zip» . And your downloaded file must have the same name and extension.

Connecting the phone in Recovery mode

To enable the " Recovery”, it is necessary to perform the same steps as for flashing using the phone, namely: simultaneously hold down and hold the buttons “ Turning on"and " Volume» (up). After that, the screen will display " Meizu” and the menu “ recovery mode". Putting the phone into this mode is an integral part of the process.

Firmware

In the field that appears, select " System Upgrade". Next, you need to click on the item " Start”, after which the firmware will begin to install. During the installation of the firmware, repeated reboots of the phone may occur. They can be either automatic or require user intervention. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully monitor the ongoing process. You can understand that the Meizu M2 Mini has been completely updated when the phone reboots itself and turns on in the usual form for the user. Before full-fledged work with the phone, some settings may be required that the device offers to implement.

The rapid spread of smartphones, which has already become a famous company MEIZU, continues today. But the models of previous years do not lose their attractiveness, which is facilitated by maintaining the relevance of the software part of the manufacturer's devices by releasing regular updates to the proprietary Flyme Android shell. And the developers of custom OS options are not sitting idly by. Consider the possibilities for interacting with the system software of a balanced and very popular Meizu M2 Mini model - device firmware.

By keeping the Flyme operating system of the phone in question up to date, you don’t have to worry about the performance of all modern Android applications - the proprietary shell from MEIZU demonstrates stability and wide functionality, and also has a number of advantages over other solutions. In addition, the M2 Mini smartphone is one of the latest variants released by Meizu, which can unlock the bootloader, which makes it possible to install custom firmware.

Whatever result, that is, the version of Android installed in the device after the manipulations described below, is not the goal, you should consider:

All operations described in this material are performed by the user at his own risk. The author of the article and the site resource administration are not responsible for the possible negative consequences of following the instructions and the lack of the desired result!

Before flashing any Android device, you should take some time to prepare for the operation - install the necessary components and applications on your PC, and also get all the necessary files. Properly carried out preparatory stage predetermines the success of the procedure, and also ensures the smooth flow of all processes and their effectiveness.

Drivers and operating modes

Even if Meizu M2 Mini will not be used for manipulations Personal Computer(methodology individual ways reinstalling Android allows this), before interfering with the software part of the smartphone, you should check the fact of installing the drivers for the device in the existing PC. In case of unforeseen situations during operations or later, this will allow you to quickly correct errors and restore the model to working capacity.

There are usually no problems with installing components for pairing Meizu M2 Mini and a PC - a set of drivers is integrated into any official smartphone firmware, but just in case, a package with the necessary files is available for download at the link:

To install all the necessary components, the most correct way would be the following:

  1. Turn on the mode on the device "USB Debugging". Its activation may be required, for example, when obtaining root rights.
  2. Connect your smartphone to PC and open "Device Manager".

Install the driver for the device if it is not available "Android Composite ADB Interface" manually from the catalog obtained from the link above, or from the CD-ROM built into the device.

To activate the virtual CD, move the notification curtain on the phone screen down, select the item "Connected as...." and then check the option "Built-in CD-ROM",

which will eventually open access to all the necessary files from the PC.

  3. After doing the above, turn off the device and start it in recovery mode. To do this, hold down the keys at the same time. "Volume+" and "Nutrition" until the logo appears on the screen MEIZU, after which the button "Turning on" should be released.

After loading the recovery environment, the device screen will look like in the photo above (2). Connect M2 Mini to PC. As a result of the correct detection of the device in recovery mode by the computer, in "Explorer" Windows drive should appear Recovery.

  4. Exit recovery and start the device in normal mode performed by tap on the button "Restart".

Meizu M2 Mini versions, firmware download

MEIZU usually divides its own devices into several versions, depending on which market - Chinese or international - they are intended for, there is also a gradation for Chinese telecom operators. As for the M2 Mini model, there are as many as seven (!) Possible options - the devices are characterized by different hardware identifiers and, accordingly, are equipped with different firmware with indexes I/G, A, U, C, Q, M, O.

Without delving into the differences between the system software for the M2 Mini, we note that for Russian-speaking users, the most preferred shells are with the index "G" and it is the installation of such firmware that in most cases is the goal of manipulating the device.

Let's conditionally divide all M2 Mini into "Chinese" and "international". The easiest way to find out which version fell into the hands of the user is to start the smartphone in recovery mode. If the recovery environment items are written in English (1) - the device is "international", if hieroglyphs are observed (2) - "Chinese".

In the first case, there should be no problems with installing G-versions of the OS into the device, but if there is a "Chinese" M2 Mini, you may need to change the device ID before installing a system with Russian and other advantages. Smartphone firmware with any index for the "international" version of the system is described in "Method 2" below in the article.

Downloading the software for the device in question is best done from the official website. Links leading to pages containing software packages:

All files used in the process of carrying out the procedures from the examples below in the article can be downloaded from the links located in the description of the manipulation methods.

Superuser Privileges

In general, root-rights are not required for firmware and further trouble-free operation of the Meizu M2 Mini. But when changing the identifier, creating a full-fledged backup and other manipulations, you cannot do without special privileges. Obtaining Superuser rights on the device in question does not cause difficulties and can be done in two ways.

The official method of obtaining root rights

Meizu provides users of its smartphones with the ability to root without resorting to third-party tools, i.e. officially. The only thing you need to do in advance is to register a Flyme account and log in to your account from your phone.

The method works only on Flyme 4 and Flyme 6, for the 5th version of the proprietary MEIZU OS, the following is not applicable!

Obtaining root rights through KingRoot

The second effective way to equip Meise M2 Mini with root rights is to use the tool. The tool successfully allows you to root the model on any firmware and does not require a Meizu account.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

Information backup

Since deleting all data from the phone’s memory during the firmware process is practically prerequisite for the successful functioning of the system in the future, before interfering with the software part, it is necessary to save all the information that may be needed later in a backup copy. Creating a backup can be done by one of several methods.

It should be noted that the developers of the proprietary Flyme Android shell, under which all Meizu devices operate, have provided in their system ample opportunities for creating full-fledged backup copies of user information. The tool is available to all owners of the M2 Mini and works quite effectively, so its use can be recommended in the first place.

Ideally, you should use a microSD card installed in your smartphone to save the backup.

Subsequently, it is easy to restore everything deleted, acting in the same way as creating a backup, but choosing after starting the tool backup and pressing "Restore".

Firmware

After preparation, you can proceed to the firmware of the device. Like almost any Android device, the Meizu M2 Mini system software can be reinstalled in several ways. The first method of manipulations presented below is suitable for almost all users of the device, the second is useful for owners of copies intended for sale in China, and the third should be addressed if there is a desire to change the official Flyme OS to a third-party solution - custom.

Method 1: Factory Recovery Environment

The simplest and most acceptable way to reinstall, update and rollback the FlymeOS version for owners of the "international" Meizu M2 Mini is to use the "native" recovery preinstalled by the manufacturer in each device. The example below installs the official Flyme OS Android shell version 6.2.0.0G, - the latest at the time of the creation of the material.

  1. Be sure to charge the M2 Mini battery to at least 80%. Download the file "update.zip", containing system software for installation and, NOT RENAMED it, put the package in the root of the internal storage. If the device does not boot into Android, proceed to the next step without copying the package.
  2. Launch Meiza M2 Mini in recovery mode. How to get into recovery is described above in the article. If the firmware file has not been copied to the phone's memory before, connect the device to the USB port of the PC and transfer "update.zip" to removable disk Recovery, defined in "Explorer".
  3. As you can see, there are only two options on the Meizu factory recovery screen - check the box next to system upgrade. Concerning "Clear Data"- functions for clearing memory from all data before installing the system, it is also recommended to check this box.

When you roll back the Flyme version to an earlier one than the one installed in the smartphone, partition cleaning is required! When updating, it is done at the request of the user, but, again, it is recommended!

  4. Click the button Start, which will cause the procedure to first check the file with the software, and then install it. Processes are accompanied by the completion of progress bars and do not require user intervention.
  5. After the transfer of files to the desired partitions is completed, the phone will reboot into the recovery environment. Click the button "Restart".
  6. The first system startup after installing the system software takes longer than usual. The initialization procedure is characterized by the longest duration, accompanied by an inscription on the screen with a percentage counter - "Application Optimization".
  7. The completion of the Flyme installation process can be considered the appearance of a shell screen with a choice of interface language. Determine the main parameters of the system.
  8. Reinstalled and/or updated system can be used!

Additionally. Google Services in FlymeOS

The policy of the developers of the proprietary FlymeOS Android shell, under which Meizu smartphones operate, does not imply initial integration into the firmware. In other words, by reinstalling the official Android on the Meizu M2 Mini “clean”, the user will find the absence of the usual features after the system starts. However, correcting the situation is not difficult. Do the following.

Method 2: Installing G-firmware on "Chinese" devices

As mentioned above, the abundance of M2 Mini versions can serve as some obstacle in the process of installing international firmware containing the Russian language. If the need to reinstall the OS arose on a device with a pre-installed system characterized by an index other than "G", most likely, a preliminary change of the hardware identifier will be required.

This manipulation in the example below is performed on a device running firmware 4.5.4.2A, on other assemblies, the performance of the method is not guaranteed!

  1. Install FlymeOS 4.5.4.2A acting in accordance with the recommendations of "Method 1" above in the article. The fact that there are hieroglyphs in the description of the recovery options should not be embarrassing - the meaning of the actions performed as a result of calling the functions is the same as in the example above!
  2. Download the archive containing everything you need to change the device ID - specialized script, Android Apps kinguser, BETA-SuperSU-v2.49, BusyBox and Terminal.

After receiving the package, unpack it, and place the resulting catalog into the internal memory of the Meizu M2 Mini. File "chid.sh" copy to the root of the internal file storage.

  3. Get root rights. You can do this in one of the ways described at the beginning of the article, but the easiest way is to go the following way:
  4. Install the app BusyBox Installer and run it.

Grant Superuser privileges when requested, wait for the component to load "Smart Install", then press "Installation" and wait for the completion of equipping the machine with console utilities.

  5. The last tool on the list that you need to change the MEIZU M2 Mini ID is "Terminal Emulator". Run the file "Terminal_1.0.70.apk", wait for the installation of the tool to finish and run it.
  6. Type the su command in the terminal and then press "Enter" on the virtual keyboard. Give the program Superuser rights by clicking "Allow" in the request window that appears.
  7. Run the command with the following syntax: sh /sdcard/chid.sh in the Terminal. Get the result almost instantly - in the process of executing the script commands, the console responses confirming the success of the operation appear: "now you have intl phone id = 57851402", "now you have intl model id = M81H", "now you have intl id string = international_of".
  8. Restart your smartphone. This completes the Meizu M2 Mini hardware ID change.

After the manipulations to change the ID of the Meizu M2 Mini, carried out by performing the above steps, it “turns” into the international model M81H on which you can install firmware with indexes G and I any versions. OS installation is carried out by following the instructions "Method 1: Factory Recovery Environment" described above in this paper.

Method 3: Custom Firmware

In the case when the proprietary Flyme shell does not satisfy the user according to any criteria, modified unofficial versions of the OS come to the rescue, of which a fairly large number have been released for the device in question. These solutions completely transform the software look of the smartphone, and also allow you to get the 6th and 7th Android on the Meise M2 Mini.

To install custom, you will need to follow a few steps and a fairly extensive set of tools. All manipulations according to the instructions below are performed on Meizu M2 Mini with FlymeOS installed 4.5.4.2A. Download the software of this version from the link available in the description "Method 2" and install "Method 1" of this material, and then proceed to the implementation of the following, having previously studied the instructions from beginning to end and weighing your own strengths and capabilities, and fully understanding what you have to do!

All tools and files used in the example below are taken from the folder resulting from unzipping the package "UNLOCK_BOOT.rar", we will not return to this issue!

Step 1Unlock Bootloader

Before you can install a modified recovery, and then a firmware other than the official one, you need to unlock the bootloader (bootloader) of the device. To perform the procedure on Meizu M2 Mini, follow the following instructions step by step.

Attention! In the process of unlocking the bootloader, all data contained in the internal memory of the device will be destroyed! A preliminary backup is required!

  1. Make sure you have ADB drivers on your system. For this:

  2. Install the Android ADB Key app by running the file adb+key.exe

and following the instructions of the installer.

  3. Follow steps 2-5 of the instructions "Method 2: Installing G-Firmware on "Chinese" devices" described above in this paper. That is, get root rights, install "SuperSU", Busybox and "Terminal".
  4. Place file "unlock_bootloader.sh" to the root of the internal memory of MEIZU M2 Mini.
  5. Run on smartphone terminal emulator and run the su command. Give the tool root rights.
  6. Enter the command sh /sdcard/unlock_bootloader.sh into the console and press "Enter" on the virtual keyboard. The result of the command execution should be the terminal response as in the screenshot below (2). If the picture matches, the operation completed successfully.
  7. Return to Windows and copy the directory "adb_fastboot" to the root of the disk C:, then open the resulting folder.
  8. Holding down a key "shift" on the keyboard, right-click on an empty area of the directory "adb_fastboot". In the context menu that appears, select the option "Open command window".
  9. The execution of the previous paragraph will bring up the Windows console. Connect the M2 Mini to the USB port, if disconnected, and write the adb reboot bootloader command in the console. Confirm execution with the key "Input" on keyboard.

The device will start to reboot fastboot, as a result of which its screen will turn black, and an inscription will appear at the bottom in small print FASTBOOT Mode….

IMPORTANT! Do not disconnect the phone from the PC on this and subsequent steps of unlocking and do not close the command line!

  10. In the console, write the command fastboot oem unlock and press "Input".
  11. After executing the command, a warning about the risks of unlocking the bootloader will appear on the device screen. Confirmation of the intention to unlock the bootloader is the impact on the key "Volume+" smartphone. Refusal to perform manipulation "Volume-".
  12. Press the volume up button and wait 5-10 seconds until the mode selection menu appears on the screen.
