Equipped with a special S.M.A.R.T. (self-monitoring, analysis and reporting technology). This technology allows you to monitor the state of the HDD, analyze its operation and predict failure. "SMART" monitors over 40 parameters, the result for each of which is entered into a special table. Analysis of S.M.A.R.T. statistics allows you to detect vulnerabilities and predict hard drive failure.

This article will tell you how to view the SMART of a hard drive, decipher its readings, and which parameters should be given special attention. It is worth noting that the information is presented in a structured manner, but special software is required to extract data from it.

How to watch S.M.A.R.T. hard drive. Decryption of parameters.

To check the "SMART" parameters, this function must be enabled in the system. This is true for computers manufactured before 2010. They have the option HDD S.M.A.R.T. in the BIOS. Capability, the inclusion of which allows you to fully track "SMART". In new PCs, the question “how to enable S.M.A.R.T. on your hard drive? " irrelevant - everything is on by default.

To view the HDD status parameters, you need a special utility for working with hard drives (Victoria, HD Tune, HDD Scan) or complex diagnostic programs (Everest or its "successor" Aida64). They allow you to display the table in an easy-to-understand form.

Let's analyze the parameters using the example of "Victoria". As you can see from the image, the hard drive (in this case, it is a 200 GB Seagate with an outdated IDE interface) does not support all SMART commands and fixes some of the parameters.

In the title of the table, you can see the parameter ID, its name, VAL, Wrst, Tresh and Raw values, as well as the estimated Health column.

  • ID - parameter number in the general list of analyzed criteria.
  • VAL - its current value in abstract units (usually a percentage of the ideal indicator).
  • Wrst is the worst value the hard drive has ever reached.
  • Tresh is a conditional threshold for the VAL value, upon reaching which the system notifies about the impending "death" of the HDD.
  • RAW is an expression of the VAL parameter in numerical format (the number of hours of operation / failures / errors / bugs).

The Health parameter allows people who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of computer hardware or English to assess the state of the HDD. He assigns a habitual grade of 1 to 5 points to each of them.

When analyzing the state of a hard disk, you should pay attention to VAL (comparing with the Tresh column) and RAW (for an objective assessment). In the given example, it can be seen that the hard disk drive has experienced many read errors (for Seagate, Fujitsu and Samsung, you don't have to look at this column - all errors are recorded here) and has a long operating time (parameter 9). The table shows that the number of hardware error corrections (parameter 195) is quite high. The rest of the "SMART" values are normal, or close to it. It is important that parameter 5 (Reallocated Sectors Count) is normal. This means that the number of bad sectors is small (11 in this case) and so far nothing threatens the disk itself.

If parameter 5 has alarming values, the health of the HDD is at risk. In the screenshot above, the Reallocated Sectors Count indicates that the hard drive is close to failure. In this case, this is a system failure (a mismatch between a zero RAW value and a critical VAL value indicates this), and a SMART hard drive recovery is required to bring it back to normal. But usually such information indicates that the HDD is about to break, and it can no longer be used normally.

How to reset or restore S.M.A.R.T. hard disk

We cannot tell you in detail how to reset the SMART hard drive. Although this action is not criminal (unlike the same change of the IMEI of a smartphone), it can help unscrupulous dealers sell faulty railways under the guise of new ones. But for users who need to know how to recover a SMART hard drive in order to get it back in service after a software failure, let's explain the situation in general terms.

  • To reset S.M.A.R.T. (just like other service tasks), a hard disk drive connection is required via the COM interface. To do this, manufacturers equip the HDD with a special connector of 4 or 5 pins. It is located next to the data and power outlets. New computers often do not have a COM socket on the rear panel, so a special USB-COM board performs this function.

Surely many owners of LG Smart TVs have faced such a problem as: “Not enough memory. Reload the page or go to another site. " This notification pops up on the TV screen at the moment when the user tries to open any multimedia file for viewing, and it doesn't matter if the Internet connection is carried out via cable or wireless connection. The thing is that the TV does not have enough memory to load multimedia content. Moreover, this problem does not always arise, and not immediately. If there is insufficient memory, a corresponding notification pops up.

It is clear that this problem occurs only when your TV is connected to the Internet (during normal viewing of channels, everything is fine), while you use the built-in TV browser in order to view any online video. When playing music, launching games, this error may also occur.

The problem is in no way tied to a specific site, i.e. an error message can pop up on any site. Moreover, this message about the problem does not always appear and not immediately. Suppose you have watched multimedia content for 10 minutes and suddenly, everything is interrupted and a notification about insufficient memory appears on the display. Reloading the page can correct this situation, but most likely not for long - for a few minutes.

Memory features

It turns out that there is no way to expand the device's memory. A memory card or rather an external hard drive will not help here. Samsung TVs also have this problem. This situation occurs when trying to download streaming video. TV memory is full because the image loads slower than online video and the memory in the required amount simply does not always have time to free up. It is recommended to open those sites in which the video in a common file is saved in blocks - then memory overflow does not occur.

There are not many options, tk. it is impossible to expand the memory of the TV, as is the case with a computer. The only way out of this situation is to install special applications on the TV that will get rid of this problem and watch movies, various videos, listen to music from the Internet through them.

You can try updating your TV software. There is a hope that in later versions there will be no such "jambs" and memory will be spent and distributed more correctly, more economically. After all, technologies do not stand still, this also applies to the development of the TV market. How can you clean the memory of your LG Smart TV easily and without problems?

Algorithm of actions:

  • Connect the TV set to the Internet, no matter what method. You can use Wi-fi, modem or cable.
  • Switch to Smart TV mode using the button on the remote control.
  • A browser window will open, you need to select a tab in the upper right corner, which will contain several lines.
  • Select the line "Clear cache". We click on the line and confirm this action and wait for the completion of cleaning.

TV capabilities

With the help of LG Smart TV, the user can open pages on the Internet, like on a smartphone, laptop or stationary PC, using the browser built into the TV. Surfing the Internet using the remote control is not very convenient, although for this purpose it is possible to purchase a keyboard. But it is very convenient to manage the built-in Internet services using the remote control, because they open instantly.

The set of these services available in smart TV depends on the country of residence of the owner and on the firmware version. Usually it is skype, twitter, facebook, youtube, various TV channels. There is also access to multimedia resources.

Winchesters Seagate Barracuda very popular among personal computer users. Many discs work for 5-10 years and have excellent "health" at that age. By the word "health" I mean both the functioning of the hard disk itself, its speed and stability, and the indicators of its self-diagnosis and recovery system S.M.A.R.T.... Often, over many years of work, the indicators of the self-diagnosis system S.M.A.R.T. are changed from the moment the hard drive was first used. In these indicators, the hard disk itself memorizes such parameters as: the maximum temperature of the hard disk, the operating time of the hard disk (operating hours), the number of on and off times, the number of head parks, etc. However, the most undesirable indicators that may appear after many years of hard disk operation are number of bad sectors.

Reasons for the appearance bad sectors are different. The main reason is time. Over time, on a disc, even a very high-quality one, areas with unstable reading of the recorded information may appear, especially if this information was recorded a long time ago, and the disc has not been used for a long time. Among the reasons may be the low quality of the hard disk platters themselves, poor assembly or the use of cheap materials in the manufacture of the HDD by the manufacturer.

However, there are times when bad sectors appear not because of the hard drive itself. I mean the cases when the power is turned off at the time of writing information to the disk, or a defect in the SATA cable, or errors in the SATA controller on the computer motherboard, or unstable operation of the PC power supply (voltage surges along the 5V and 12V lines). In these cases, the self-diagnostic system can find on the surface of the hard disk from several pieces to several thousand so-called "soft bad", i.e. areas where information cannot be read, because checksums do not match with the information itself that is written in these blocks. The diagnostic system often identifies them as unstable or poor and changes the performance of the system S.M.A.R.T. not for the better. System S.M.A.R.T. can even replace these blocks with good ones and display them as Realocated in their performance, although the blocks themselves can be very good. This happens quite often, but not always.

The photo below shows a screenshot of the Victoria program with indicators S.M.A.R.T. of the problem disk. More than a thousand of already displaced sectors can be seen and hundreds of those preparing to be displaced.

So what can we do to try to get S.M.A.R.T. back to normal? We can reset S.M.A.R.T. or move bad sectors to a hidden area of the self-diagnostic system, the so-called P (Slip) -list. This operation does not guarantee that after resetting the indicators, these indicators will not appear again in a few days or weeks. If the disk really has bad sectors, then the self-diagnostic system will identify them and mark them after some time of using the disk. So you most likely will not be able to make a "candy" from a really "killed" hard disk.

This guide explains how to reset S.M.A.R.T. for hard drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.11, Seagate Barracuda 7200.12, Seagate Barracuda ES, Seagate Barracuda ES.2... On other hard drives Seagate Barracuda I have not checked, perhaps the procedure is similar.

First, we need to get an RS232-to-TTL adapter. You can assemble an adapter based on the MAX232 microcircuit as shown in the diagram:

Note to the diagram: If it is possible to connect to a stabilized voltage of + 5V, then the circuit can be simplified by throwing out the 7805 stabilizer with two strapping capacitors from it.

Alternative circuit of the RS232-to-TTL adapter.

The built-in browser of the TV is able to store all your actions, and when you use various services, the TV memory overflows.

As a result, the owner of the TV cannot use it for its intended purpose. To avoid such inconveniences, you need to figure out how to clear the memory on LG Smart TV so that the TV functions are restored as a result.

The owner of the device during its operation can perform many different functions that are available thanks to the capabilities of the TV, for example:

  • watch movies and listen to music;
  • use Smart TV through a browser;
  • viewing various files and photos;
  • use a keyboard for the convenience of using Internet content;
  • manage TV apps.

All this leads to the accumulation of information in the internal storage of information technology, and as a result leads to the fact that there is not enough memory for further normal playback of various films and music on TV.

In this regard, periodic updating of the system is simply necessary to avoid overloading.

Important: it should be remembered that this error occurs only if the Internet is connected to the TV, in the case when you watch channels in normal mode, such failures are excluded.

Also, failures can occur when connecting to a computer, using a flash drive, listening to music. At the same time, the occurrence of an error with an overload of information is not tied to any particular page. The corresponding message may appear when watching a movie or listening to music on any site completely unexpectedly for the user.

You can reload the page, but this option will help for a few minutes, then the problem will again make itself felt.

At the same time, it is necessary to understand that it will not work out to solve the current situation by increasing the memory, as it can be done in the case of a computer.
Nowadays, a lot of smart technology is faced with such problems, since there is still no single constructive solution that would save the user from problems at the initial stages and would solve the situation when it occurs in one click.

For example, Samsung TV also faces a similar problem when it comes to downloading streaming video. It has a memory overflow due to the slower loading of the image, in contrast to the online broadcast.

I had to clean it. Therefore, in order to avoid the problem, it is recommended to use other applications only in those versions where the video is placed in blocks.

How to clear memory on LG Smart TV

The appearance of an error message indicates that the memory of the smart TV is congested, in order to cope with the temporary problem, it is necessary to clear the cache of the lg smart TV browser.

This process is performed in 2 ways:

  1. Clear the cache of all applications:
    to do this, press Smart on the remote control to open the main menu;
    in one of the upper corners, depending on the sewing of the TVs, use the "Change" button;
    select one of the online services that is not used and in the window that opens, click "Delete".
  2. Browser only cleaning:
    by pressing the same “Smart” button, switch to Smart TV mode;
    launch the browser and open its settings in the upper right corner;
    select "Clear cache" in the drop-down list and confirm the action.

After a while, memory clearing will be completed completely, and the image playback speed will be restored, and the memory will be freed of unnecessary content along with an overflow message.

If this does not happen, you need to reload the page or go to reboot the TV.
In addition, you can prevent the problem without cleaning by wisely using the functionality of the TV and connecting to Windows using special applications that will prevent memory from overloading and ensure comfortable viewing and listening of any content.

At the same time, you can connect to the Internet at any time, via Wi-fi, by setting up the router.
The problem is not solved in another way, even the LG service specialists cannot give a detailed answer to the question of how to clear the memory, since all the options that are applicable to the computer are excluded here, only the use of special applications that block the memory overload with information is available.

You can, of course, try to update the software on TV and hope that after the update the situation will be resolved in a favorable direction, but this option does not always work for a long time.

Conclusion
TV memory overflow occurs due to the use of online content or listening to music, it is quite easy to solve this problem, while there are several options - cleaning the browser or applications and the third option is a clever use of the TV's resources so that there is no memory overload.

Unfortunately, at a constructive level, this problem has not been solved by the developers at the moment, but it is hoped that new versions of technology will still be spared from it, since progress is in constant development.

Receiving a diagnostic error message from the system does not mean that the disk is already out of order. But in the case of S.M.A.R.T. errors, you need to understand that the disk is already in the process of failure. A complete refusal can occur within a few minutes, or in a month or a year. But in any case, this means that you can no longer entrust your data to such a disk.

You need to worry about the safety of your data, create a backup copy or transfer files to another storage medium. Along with the safety of your data, you need to take steps to replace the hard drive. The hard drive on which S.M.A.R.T. was identified. errors cannot be used - even if it does not completely fail, it can partially damage your data.

Of course, the hard drive can fail without S.M.A.R.T. But this technology gives you the advantage of warning you about imminent disk failure.

Step 2: Recover Deleted Disk Data

In the event of a SMART error, data recovery from disk is not always required. In the event of an error, it is recommended to immediately create a copy of important data, as the disk may fail at any time. But there are errors in which it is no longer possible to copy the data. In this case, you can use the program to recover hard disk data - Hetman Partition Recovery.

For this:

  1. Download the program, install and run it.
  2. By default, the user will be prompted to use File Recovery Wizard... By pressing the button "Further", the program will prompt you to select the drive from which you want to recover files.
  3. Double click on the failed disk and select the required analysis type. We choose "Complete analysis" and wait for the disk scanning process to complete.
  4. After the scanning process is finished, you will be presented with files for recovery. Highlight the required files and press the button "Restore".
  5. Choose one of the suggested ways to save files. Do not save recovered files to disk with error.

Step 3: Scan the disk for bad sectors

Run a scan of all hard disk partitions and try to fix the errors found.

To do this, open the folder "This computer" and right-click on the disk with the SMART error. Please select Properties / Service / Check In chapter Checking the disk for errors.

As a result of scanning, errors found on the disk can be corrected.

Step 4: Reduce disk temperature

Sometimes, the reason for the "S M A R T" error may be exceeding the maximum allowable temperature of the disk. This error can be eliminated by improving the ventilation of the computer. First, check if your computer has adequate ventilation and if all fans are working properly.

If you find and fix a ventilation problem, after which the temperature of the disk has dropped to a normal level, then the SMART error may no longer occur.

Step 5:

Open the folder "This computer" and right-click on the error disk. Please select Properties / Service / Optimize In chapter Disk optimization and defragmentation.

Select the disk to be optimized and click Optimize.

Note... In Windows 10, Disk Defragmentation and Optimization can be configured to be performed automatically.

Step 6: Get a new hard drive

If you are faced with a SMART hard drive error, then purchasing a new drive is only a matter of time. What kind of hard drive you need depends on your style of work at the computer, as well as the purpose for which it is used.

What to look for when purchasing a new disc:

  1. Disk type: HDD, SSD or SSHD... Each type has its own pros and cons, which are not decisive for some users and are very important for others. The main ones are the speed of reading and writing information, volume and resistance to multiple rewriting.
  2. The size... The two main drive form factors are 3.5 "and 2.5". The size of the disk is determined in accordance with the installation location of a particular computer or laptop.
  3. Interface... Main hard drive interfaces:
    • SATA;
    • IDE, ATAPI, ATA;
    • SCSI;
    • External drive (USB, FireWire, etc.).
  4. Specifications and performance:
    • Capacity;
    • Reading and writing speed;
    • The size of the memory or cache buffer;
    • Response time;
    • Fault tolerance.
  5. S.M.A.R.T... The presence of this technology in the disk will help determine possible errors in its operation and prevent data loss in time.
  6. Equipment... This item includes the possible presence of interface or power cables, as well as warranty and service.

How do I reset a SMART error?

SMART errors can be easily reset in BIOS (or UEFI). But the developers of all operating systems categorically do not recommend doing this. If the data on the hard disk is of no value to you, then the output of SMART errors can be disabled.

To do this, you need to do the following:

  1. Reboot your computer, and by pressing the key combination indicated on the boot screen (they are different for different manufacturers, usually "F2" or "Del") go to BIOS (or UEFI).
  2. Go to: Advanced > SMART settings > SMART self test... Set the value Disabled.

Note: the location where the function is disabled is indicated approximately, since depending on the BIOS or UEFI version, the location of such a setting may slightly differ.

Is HDD repair advisable?

It is important to understand that any of the ways to eliminate SMART errors is self-deception. It is impossible to completely eliminate the cause of the error, since the main cause of its occurrence is often the physical deterioration of the hard disk mechanism.

To eliminate or replace incorrectly working components of the hard drive, you can contact the service center with a special laboratory for working with hard drives.

But the cost of work in this case will be higher than the cost of a new device. Therefore, it makes sense to do repairs only if you need to recover data from an already inoperative disk.

SMART error for SSD drive

Even if you have no complaints about the performance of an SSD drive, its performance is gradually decreasing. The reason for this is the fact that the memory cells of an SSD drive have a limited number of rewriting cycles. The wear resistance function minimizes this effect, but does not completely eliminate it.

SSD disks have their own specific SMART attributes that signal the state of the disk memory cells. For example, “209 Remaining Drive Life”, “231 SSD life left”, etc. These errors can occur in the event of a decrease in the performance of the cells, and this means that the information stored in them can be damaged or lost.

In the event of a failure, the cells of an SSD disk cannot be restored and cannot be replaced.
