Making a leather case for a tablet

This version of the cover is similar to a book: the tablet itself is fixed to one part of the "cover" with special fasteners, the other part serves to protect the sensitive display from unnecessary mechanical stress... Making a book cover is not at all difficult, and the time that will have to be spent will not be in vain. Use your imagination and you have an accessory that no one else has. Now let's move on to the technical side of the issue.

Necessary materials:

  1. Fragments of felt of your favorite color, cut to fit the dimensions of the device, taking into account allowances - two pieces. Usually felt is used, but if for some reason you do not like felt, you can use another material: for example, a leather substitute or natural leather.
  2. Cardboard parts that are also sized to match tablet computer, - two pieces.
  3. A multipurpose adhesive that can glue fabric and cardboard together.
  4. Contact tape (Velcro tape).
  5. An elastic band for fixing - two pieces.

Operating procedure:

- We lay out the felt parts on the table and use glue to attach cardboard elements to them. Pay attention to the allowances. Areas not covered with cardboard will be used for opening and closing the cover. In fact, we are making a cover for a tablet.

Fragments of cardboard are glued to felt or leather parts

- The free edges are folded inward and also fixed to the cardboard parts.

- Cut out two strips from the material being used, each 15 cm long and 1 cm wide. These parts are cut lengthwise and glued at the corners of one part of the cover, as seen in the photo:

Base material strips to secure the device in the case

At this stage, it is very important to fit in and put the computer in a case. If the size of the case matches the dimensions of the tablet, two rubber bands are glued into the case to better hold the device in the way you think is convenient.

- We cover the cardboard parts with a layer of felt or leather of the same color or combined with the main one. We cut out the details and glue them to the cardboard.

- All the resulting structure is sewn on a sewing machine for reliability.

- To prevent the cover from opening when it is not required, you can sew a lock with a contact tape to it. To do this, on the part into which the tablet is inserted, a piece of the main material (of arbitrary shape and width) is sewn with one part of the Velcro tape. The second part of the contact tape is fixed on the opposite part of the cover.

Velcro tape is used as a lock

So, our cover is ready! If you wish, you can decorate it with an original author's drawing made with special paints, or felt applique, or glued rhinestones, or embroidery.

The female version of the tablet case. Especially lovers of all sorts of ruffles-tweezers will like it.

Tablet case is an essential accessory for your electronic assistant! Our model is fastened with Velcro and additionally reinforced with plastic inserts. This case is suitable not only for a tablet, but also for an e-book.

Tablet case: choose material

How to sew a tablet case with your own hands? Our cover is made of thick genuine leather lined with bright cotton. Choose thick, abrasion-resistant materials such as denim, corduroy, faux leather or suede. In order for a case for a tablet or a book to hold its shape well and can be used as a stand, it must be strengthened.

We used thin plastic from a folder for papers, the choice of which in stationery stores is huge. The plastic should be quite dense, about 0.7-0.8 mm thick. It can be cut with scissors and stitched with a machine needle (number 80-90). You can also use thick and stiff cardboard.

In order to connect the layers of fabric and plastic, you need an adhesive material. It can be an adhesive spider web, double-sided tape or transparent glue (fabric or leather should be indicated in the annotation). You can use either one of these materials or all three. It is convenient to glue large fragments with an adhesive spider web, bend the edges with tape and glue over small parts, and fix the threads with glue.

You will also need an elastic band and Velcro for fastening.

As an example, we sewed an e-book case, so it has a vertical format. The tablet is more commonly used in horizontal position, therefore, the cover for it should open, and also be able to be installed on the table, along the long side. Pay special attention to the connectors and buttons located on the sides on some models - these places should be left open.

So, let's sew a case for a tablet or e-book with our own hands!

Cut open

Detail B- corresponds to the size of a tablet or a book, maybe 3-5 mm more

Detail A- the same width as part B. The length is twice the length of part A plus the thickness of the tablet or book and plus 1 cm.

Detail C- the same width as part B. The length is slightly more than 1/3 of the length of part B.

Detail F- fasteners. May be triangular if the device has a wide bezel. Each side of the part must be at least 1/3 of the length of the side of part B to which it will be attached.

Detail H- fastener of any shape. The length of the part should be 5-7 cm longer than the thickness of the tablet in order to close freely.

Leather

  • Detail A 1 piece
  • Detail C 1 piece
  • Detail H 1 piece

From fabric

  • Detail A 1 piece, may be shorter by 5-7cm
  • Item B 1 piece
  • Detail F 4 pieces, 2 to one side, two to the other
  • Detail H 1 piece

Made of plastic

  • Detail A 1 pc. Reduce in length by 5-7 cm and cut into 5 pieces. In order to put the cover at different angles, you need 3 parts, 2 x 2 cm wide and 1 - 4 cm wide. It is better to determine the length of the other two parts already during sewing.
  • Item B 1 piece
  • Detail C 1 piece
  • Detail F 4 pcs
  • Detail H 1 piece

Cut out fabric and leather parts with an allowance of 1 cm. Leather parts F can be cut out without allowances, depending on the thickness of the leather and its cut. Cut out plastic parts without allowances.

Progress

  • parts made of leather, fabric and plastic
  • elastic band, Velcro
  • adhesives, threads

Use a spider web, double-sided tape, or glue to glue the fabric to the plastic.

Sew on the pasted Velcro piece. Fold over and glue the edges on the leather clasp.

Try on one pair of bindings by inserting a tablet or book. Pin the elastic to the fabric.

Fold and glue the edges of the leather part A. Sew on the other side of the Velcro strap on one side.

Fold the piece with the pinned pair of fasteners and the leather piece with the fastener sewn on with the wrong sides inward. Sew along the short side, curling slightly around the corners.

Stitch on the bindings on the second side, starting at about 1/3 of the total length of B.

Fold the leather part A and the fabric part A with glued plastic on the inside with the wrong sides. Insert the fastener detail from the free edge as shown in the photo and sew along the edge until it intersects with the stitch near the fasteners.

Tuck and glue the edges along the 3 m sides of the leather on the plastic-reinforced part C.

Tuck the free short edge of the fabric into the cover. Sew by hand the place where all three parts join. Sew horizontally near the attachment point just below the end of the plastic in part C.

For work, you will need the following materials:

colored felt or some other fabric;
cardboard;
thin foam rubber;
button;
glue;
elastic band for securing the tablet in the case;
4 leather strips 7 - 8 cm long and 1 cm wide;
threads.

Felt can be replaced with any fabric of your choice or artificial leather. It is better to take thick threads to make the stitching more beautiful.

Manufacturing instruction

Cut felt or fabric to fit the flatbed, leaving hem allowances. Cut out two rectangles from the cardboard, equal to the size of the tablet, and two pieces of leather slightly smaller in size. Round off their sharp corners.

Cut the foam rubber to the size of the cardboard. Glue each piece of cardboard with a piece of foam rubber. Put the resulting parts on the fabric so that there is a small gap between them and glue them. Wrap the edges of the fabric inward and stick to the cardboard.

Attach the ends of the strips to the corners of one piece of cardboard to make loops. They are needed to secure the tablet. Try on the case on the tablet, and then glue the elastic bands to fix it.

Glue the cut pieces of leather on top of the cardboard to close it. Sew the cover on all sides to secure the connections. Stitch it neatly around the edges.

Make a clasp. To do this, gently sew a piece of leather on one side of the cover, and attach Velcro to the other side.

The tablet case is ready. If everything was done correctly, then it will turn out to be durable and beautiful. If desired, it can be decorated with beads or shiny braid. A hand-made item instills self-confidence and awakens creativity.

Today I want to tell you how you can create a beautiful and convenient tablet case with your own hands. This process seemed to me not very difficult and exciting. To create a cover, we need:

  • the cloth
  • scissors
  • glue, glue stick and moment crystal
  • beer or interlaced cardboard
  • sintepon
  • elastic
  • sewing machine (but not required)
  • breadboard knife or clerical.
  • We measure our tablet and add 1 cm to each edge, then cut out the details from cardboard, as in the photo, with our data. It should look something like this.

    We put our blanks on the fabric, the distance between them is about 0.5 cm, we leave about 2 cm of fabric around the edge and cut off a piece of the size we need, we cut the same piece of fabric onto the inner cover of the cover.

    Now we need to glue a synthetic winterizer for a paperback on our cardboard blanks, in my case, as luck would have it, there was no synthetic winterizer, but it doesn't matter! You can glue it with a backing under the laminate, such a white thing. We glue on a regular glue stick.

    We put our already pasted blanks on the fabric so that the synthetic winterizer is at the bottom and we begin to tighten the blanks, gluing the fabric that remains along the edge, do not forget to leave a gap of 0.5 cm between the parts.

    This is how it should turn out !!

    Now let's move on to the inside of the case. From plain paper, cut out 3 rectangles with dimensions 13 * 21, 13 * 21.4 * 21. We spread them on the fabric, leaving a distance between them equal to the distance between the cardboard parts of the same size, not counting the narrow strips, I got about 2.5 cm.Glue it with glue-pencil to the fabric.

    Now, at the corners of the middle rectangle, we make basting for the elastic, cut holes equal to the width of your elastic with a breadboard knife. Like this.

    Cut directly into the fabric, don't forget to put a rug under the fabric. Then we thread an elastic band into these holes and glue a moment from the seamy side to the glue so that we get such loops on the front side.

    After gluing the elastic, we turn the edges and glue it to the paper, leave it all to dry, you should get these 2 details

    Our cover will be closed with an elastic band; to secure it, we will prepare two squares. The size is at your discretion. I have about 2 * 2 cm. We also glue them with a fabric, I took a contrasting fabric that we will have inside.

    The workpieces are dry and can now be sewn for reinforcement and for aesthetic beauty. You do not need to machine it, the glue will keep everything going.

    Now we attach our elastic band, as shown in the photo, to glue for a moment, then we sew squares. We attach the elastic to the middle part, since it will hold everything with us.

    On the cover, I sew narrow rectangles in a zigzag, large with a straight stitch. This is how it should turn out.

    After stitching, we connect the two parts to each other. In the center I glue double-sided tape, along the edge I coat with a moment for strength.

    On the folds, do not forget to smear and lay the fabric in the folds.

    I got such a wonderful case, the tablet does not fall anywhere, you can put it on the table to watch a movie, securing most of it. We also protect from falling with a soft burn.

    View from the back.

    That's how he lives there!

    I hope my master class will be clear to everyone. It is much more pleasant to have your own exclusive case, created with your own hands, diligence and love !!! Be creative!

    Store-bought tablet case - what could be more boring? Original, such that you will not find anyone else, sewn with your own hands, evoke warm feelings and the joy of possession. If you are overwhelmed with the same emotions, you have come to the right place. Worried that you never made your own tablet cases? Don't worry, it's easy to learn!

    Because mobile devices everyone is different, not only in model, but also in size, so the covers for the tablet will also be different. Use your own hands to measure the length, width and height of your highly intelligent mechanism. Record your findings.

    Find very thick cardboard, such as hard book covers. Particleboard can be used instead. Cut out five parts from the prepared material, as shown in the sample:

    In our case, their size corresponds to the following parameters:

    • 20x15 cm;
    • 20x1 cm;
    • 20x16.5 cm;
    • 20x1 cm;
    • 20x7.5 cm;

    Note that the two largest parts are not the same. One is slightly larger than the other! This is necessary for the case to wrap naturally around the tablet.

    This step step by step instructions How to make a case for a tablet with your own hands is the most exciting. After all, choosing a fabric for a future cover means expressing your “I”, your own individuality, character and preferences.

    So, cut out three rectangles from the material, one of which should correspond to the height of the cardboard blank, and its length will be the width of all solid parts taken together. The second piece should be the same size as the first three cardboard rectangles. The third cut is according to the dimensions of the remaining two cartons. Don't forget to add one to two centimeters at the seams.

    Another important component is the elastic band:

    Sew the elastic tape to the corners of the smallest fabric rectangle:

    Fold the resulting part with a medium-sized rectangle with the right sides inward:

    Sew the details. Here's what you should get:

    Fasten the side of the future cover with pins:

    Place elastic tape between the elements at the level of the corner attachment:

    Sew the future cover on three sides:

    Turn the cover onto your face. On one side of it there should be a "set" of elastic corners:

    ... on the other hand, an elastic band for the entire height of the cover:

    Place the cardboard rectangle inside the case. Fix the part with a machine stitch:

    Insert the rest of the cardboard pieces one at a time, securing each in place with a seam.

    As a result, when all the details take their permanent position, two centimeters of free fabric should remain.
