HTC Butterfly: a phone with a complicated history and destiny. Large butterfly Htc butterfly sizes

After several weeks of using a smartphone HTC Butterfly S decided to combine all the material on it into one. Since I'm not chasing the number of letters in the review, there will be a minimum of "water" and no longer actual screenshots of benchmarks, but only those listed, in my opinion, important points and a lot of videos. It rushed ...

The updated "butterfly" received the filling, as in the Galaxy S4 LTE (SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU: 4 core 1.9GHz Krait 300, 2Gb RAM, Adreno [email protected]) and became slightly faster in performance than HTC One (CPU 4 core 1.7GHz, Adreno [email protected]). Wherein HTC Butterfly S got the same 5 "FullHD Super LCD3 screen as in the previous model, but now covered with glass Gorilla® Glass 3.

HTC Butterfly S is available in several colors and, unfortunately, in a glossy case, but the Butterfly S smartphone received two speakers, as in the HTC One, a microsd card slot and a capacious 3200mah battery.

The main HTC specifications Butterfly S :

  • 5.0-inch FullHD display with PPI 440, Gorilla Glass 3
  • SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 clocked at 1.9 GHz, GPU Adreno 320 (450MHz)

We look at the video below for the first impressions, the screen, the HTC Butterfly S (901e) bundle, and read the impressions of the device after several weeks of use below.

The box from HTC Butterfly S, as well as the complete set, is absolutely the same as that of the HTC One.

Front camera 2.1MP: lens with 88 ° capture angle and HDR.
Supports Full HD 1080p video recording.

On the right is an indicator of missed events, which is slightly larger than in One. I want to note the excellent performance of the auto brightness sensor. The brightness of the screen changes smoothly and correctly adjusts to the ambient light.

Excellent voice quality and signal reception.

3.5mm headphone jack. Power button (also known as infrared port for controlling equipment)
and a second microphone for noise canceling

On the left, under the flap, there is a metal tray for microSIM, and next to it is a slot for a microSD card. The whole thing is slightly recessed into the case, so it is not so easy to replace or get a microSIM or microSD card.

For 2 thousand rubles. we get + 64gb (real 59gb) of space for music, photos, videos and documents, but we would like 32Gb of our internal memory for caches of games and large applications, which simply cannot be transferred to microsd without root. Initially, 10.25Gb is available from the built-in 16Gb.

The location of the power button is also not very good, but it protrudes a little more than the button in HTC One.

Metal volume rocker, also protrudes more
easier to find than HTC One

Micro-USB connector for battery charging (charging time from 1% to 100% - 3 hours 28 minutes),
and also with support for the MHL standard. Main microphone hole.

Thickness 10.6 mm.
Bevelled edges do not look thick and fits well in the hand

Everything is assembled perfectly (there are no creaks or cracks).

I really like the design of the smartphone and even the appearance of the back plastic cover. 160g weight does not cause discomfort, like Nokia 920 with 185g.

HTC UltraPixel Camera (4MP), but no optical stabilizer.
I noticed that the camera peephole is scratching.

A rare occurrence when the bundled headset is paired with the smartphone itself

As always, excellent sound quality due to two speakers on both ends of the screen (at the level of One, or maybe subjectively better). Great sound quality in headphones (tested with Sennheiser IE 60), which is many times better than in HTC One, perhaps the Butterfly S has a different audio chip or the Taiwanese have tuned everything right ... Of all the smartphones that I had the most liked the sound of Butterfly S.

Dual front-facing stereo speakers with powerful amplifiers.

The Butterfly S sits well in the hand due to the rounded back cover... If your hands are greasy or fogged up, then, perhaps, slipping out of the hands of the smartphone due to the glossy back cover, but so far there have been no falls). On the positive side: fingerprints on the back cover are not visible, as well as scratches, but time will tell.

Dimensions:

  • HTC Butterfly S(5") - 144.5 x 70.5 x 10.6 mm, 160 grams
  • HTC Butterfly (5 ") - 143 x 70.5 x 9.08 mm, 140 grams
  • HTC One (4.7 ") - 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm, 143 grams
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 (5 ") - 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, 130 grams
  • OPPO Find 5 (5 ") - 141.8 x 68.8 x 8.9 mm, 165 grams

The screen is superb (5.0 "Super LCD 3 FullHD 440ppi, Gorilla Glass 3.) Excellent color reproduction, contrast and viewing angles.

The screen has an oleophobic coating. It is very pleasant to slide your finger across the screen with minimal friction. The best indicator of all smartphones. Closer to the edges, the glass is slightly rounded, which makes the use of various swipes mega convenient.

As in the case of the HTC One, the Butterfly S also has screens in warm colors (6500k) and cold (> 7000k). Also, the screens may differ in contrast and brightness. In any case, the screens are perfectly readable in the sun and are quite a bit inferior in brightness. iPhone screen 5.

This time, I came across a screen in warm colors, which, in my opinion, is slightly lower than it was on my HTC One.

The distinct advantage of screens with warmer tones is in more real blacks, while colder tones produce blacks with a more noticeable blue tint. In any case, the eyes quickly get used to both cold (the screen goes blue) and warm (yellow) screens.

As for the autonomy of Butterfly S (3200mAh battery) in video playback mode and maximum load, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the test results below.

In the mixed mode of operation (web, twitter, mail, youtube, etc.), Wi-Fi is on, screen brightness is 30-40%, 3G is off, synchronization of mail and twitter is enabled. I was getting before 7:30 - 8 hours of screen operation(in the same mode, HTC One showed about 5 hours of screen life).

On average, I charge HTC Butterfly S every 1.5 - 2 days, while HTC One charged almost every day.

In 3G-enabled mode, the butterfly shows up to 6 hours of screen life(twice as long as my iPhone 5 showed on our Moscow networks with 3G enabled).

Performance (games, lag tests)

In this video, we'll talk about the performance of HTC Butterfly S (901e) in games, benchmarks and run a standard lag test by running various applications.

In everyday use (without games) the device does not heat up. In games, the heating is felt, but not as much as on the SGS4.

There is no problem with performance in most games (MC4, Wild Blood). Everything is playable and comes with maximum graphics. In Real Racing 3, fps can sometimes drop, as on all smartphones with a fullhd screen. An exception may be devices based on Qualcomm 800.

Practice with the HTC One shows that a custom kernel will help to do everything smoothly in Real Racing.

The speed of the operating system itself is not satisfactory. Everything works quickly and smoothly. SGS4 with its tachwiz lags behind in these indicators. Separately, I note that the browser in Sense puts the stock in tachwiz on the blades, both in speed and, if possible, adjusting the text in real time, depending on the zoom. With custom firmware, Butterfly S runs like a Nexus 4 and even launches programs faster.

Sense 5.0 review

Since the HTC Butterfly S has the same shell as the HTC One, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with Sense 5.0 using the HTC One as an example.

[Battery Test # 1] HTC Butterfly S (3200mAh) vs HTC One (2300mAh)

In this video, we are testing the HTC Butterfly S (3200mAh) and HTC One (2300mAh) batteries. We will test using the Stability Test application, which seriously loads all four CPU + RAM cores.

Guide to Unlock Bootloader on HTC Butterfly S.
Installing ClockworkMod recovery and custom firmware

Question: Why do Unlock Bootloader?

Answer: So that you can install a custom firmware, a custom kernel and, accordingly, get root-rights on the device.

Unlocking procedure (bootloader / bootloader) on the HTC smartphone is well described on the site https://www.htcdev.com/, including an illustration for each step. I will not repeat it word for word, but I will highlight the main points.

Attention! Procedure Unlock Bootloader will reset your smartphone to factory settings!

Step 1.

We register on the site https://www.htcdev.com/ Select "Unlock Bootloader" and click "Get Started"

Select the item "All Other Supported Models" from the list and click "Begin Unlock BootLoader"

We agree with all the conditions and go to the instruction page (the "Unlocking Bootloader Instructions" button).

Step 2.

Then we act according to the pictures and text on the website htcdev.com. In short, the first thing we do is simultaneously clamp on the smartphone volume down button + power button and hold until the smartphone reboots and enters Bootloader mode.

HTC Butterfly is the first smartphone from the Taiwanese company to be equipped with a FullHD screen. A preliminary preview of this device has already been posted on our website, in which you could familiarize yourself with the design of the device, and we also published a video in which we conducted a detailed and made comparison with the main competitors that are present on the market in this moment.

But recently the live HTC Butterfly came to our Kiev edition for long tests, and I had the opportunity to get to know him better. As a result, after a close two-week conversation, when I used Butterfly as my main smartphone, I bring to the readers' judgment a full review of this amazing device. We got a version for Russia (Europe) for testing, so, as you understand, I will consider it in the review. It is logical - since this is the most affordable modification that you can freely buy in the CIS (with a small caveat - in some countries, for example, in our Ukraine, this phone will not be officially sold). So, the Butterfly flew to us, welcome!

Materials and assembly, design and layout of elements

HTC Butterfly is a sleek slim smartphone made entirely of glossy piano black plastic. That dull glossy plastic again, you might say. And you will be partially right. Yes, the smartphone easily collects grease, dirt and fingerprints on itself. These stains can be easily removed by wiping, but as soon as you pick up the phone, it becomes "dirty and tattered" again, and the process has to be repeated over and over again. In addition, the back cover is quickly covered with small scratches, although they are noticeable only in very bright electric light. Why the company chose such an uncharacteristic material for the European modification of the smartphone remains a mystery. After all, most HTC devices use a more practical soft-touch. Nevertheless, the only advantage of the glossy design can be noted - the smartphone sticks well to the palm, which reduces the risk of dropping the gadget during use.

Smartphone design concept - red on black. This design principle is applied to almost all surfaces except the top and bottom edges. The sides of the HTC Butterfly are decorated with red metal perforated plates. The loudspeaker mesh, the edging of the camera eye are also red. All this "eloquence" is emphasized by the red touch keys below the display. As a result, the gadget looks very stylish. Everyone whom I showed this smartphone to, first of all noted that the design is very good.

Despite the huge display size, the phone looks rather diminutive due to the small thickness of the structure - only 9 mm at the thickest part - and it fits securely in the hand. A slightly curved back cover and rounded corners of the case contribute to a comfortable grip. Of course, the main highlight of Butterfly is the amazing 5 ”Super LCD3 display. Despite the fact that this is the first smartphone of the company equipped with a display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, we can say that the first pancake did not come out lumpy for sure. To be honest, it is better display that I have seen. Naturally, the pixels here are simply impossible to distinguish with the naked eye due to the fact that the display has just a huge density - 441 ppi.

The display takes up almost the entire front surface of the smartphone. It is bright, contrasting, with natural color rendition and viewing angles of almost 180 degrees. Such a display shows itself perfectly in real use under any lighting conditions and does not fade outside on a sunny day. The display has one serious drawback - if you have a habit of admiring the screen of your smartphone for no reason, then with Butterfly you will "stick" into it even more often, distracting from everyday important affairs.

Above the display, on the left, there is a front 2.1 megapixel camera capable of shooting video in 1080p, in the middle there is a narrow slit of the earpiece covered with a mesh. Below it, on the right, is an LED event indicator, which also serves as a charging indicator. Depending on the mode, the indicator lights up continuously or periodically blinks green or red.

Below the screen are three touch-sensitive buttons - back, home, and a programmable menu / multitasking button. You can reassign the button response to short and long presses in the phone settings menu.

The left side of the smartphone is empty, and on the right is the volume rocker, made of metal (or very similar to metal).

On the top of the smartphone, you can see a noise canceling microphone, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a metal unlock button and a slot for a microSIM card. To remove the tray, you must use the special accessory that is included in the package.

On the bottom edge of the smartphone is the main microphone and the microUSB slot, covered with a flap. There are small complaints about this plug: in addition to the fact that it must be opened every time a cable is connected or charging, it somehow sits loosely in the seat when closed. In addition, I have concerns that over time, the plug will simply break off. The microUSB port is traditionally inverted for HTC, and when connecting a non-native cable, you need to remember this - the indicator on the connector should be at the bottom, not at the top, like in most phones from other manufacturers. However, the native cable is devoid of any indicators at all. This, of course, is most likely nit-picking and a matter of habit.

On the back of the smartphone there is a round peephole of the main camera, framed like a metal frame. To the right is a LED flash / flashlight. On the left is a nice bonus - another LED for the notification system. Thus, no matter how the smartphone is lying, it will be difficult for you to miss the event notification. The HTC logo is in the middle. The Beats Audio badge and perforation for the main speaker are located at the bottom of the rear case.

The body of HTC Butterfly itself has a non-separable design, I have no complaints about the assembly. The case is tight, with barely noticeable crunching, crunching and torsion tests, and even then, this happens when applying forces that have nothing to do with real use. There are practically no gaps between the parts, everything is fitted very precisely. It is pleasant to hold the phone in the hand - it gives the impression of a monolithic construction. In short, in terms of assembly - a solid five.

Features and performance

First, let's just take a look at the technical specifications of the smartphone:

Type of Smartphone
Type of shell monoblock
Standard GSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/2100
High speed data transfer GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSPA
Dimensions (mm) 143x70.5x9.08
Weight (g) 140
Processor (for smartphones) Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 1.5 GHz (4 cores) + GPU Adreno 320
Memory RAM 2 GB + 16 GB internal memory
Expansion slot No
Main screen type - Super LCD 3, diagonal - 5 ", 1920x1080 pixels, pixel density 441 ppi, 16 million colors, touchscreen, capacitive, multi-touch support, Corning Gorilla Glass 2
Keyboard type screen input
Accumulator battery Li-Ion, 2020 mAh
Communications USB 2.0 (micro-USB, MHL), Bluetooth 4.0 (A2DP), Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n (DLNA), NFC

Filming 1920 x 1080 pixels, up to 30 fps, image stabilization
Operating system Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) + HTC Sense 4 interface
MP3 player Yes
FM radio Yes

As we can see, this is a typical flagship of the current year with all the ensuing consequences. In practice, the Butterfly HTC shows excellent performance in any tasks with daily use thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon Krait quad-core 1.5 Ghz processor, an Adreno 320 graphics accelerator and 2 gigabytes of RAM on board. In general, with regard to performance, it seems to me that all current flagships are almost identical in this parameter and there is no point in chasing gigahertz when buying a device, since you will not see a real difference in practical tasks. The only thing is the presence of 2 GB of RAM - probably this optimal size for today, which allows you to get normal multitasking. Although 1 GB is quite enough for the average user. I got the impression that the current android state OS is at a level where the hardware flagship smartphones already exceeds the usual system needs for performance, and this moment is no longer as critical as, for example, a year or even more so two ago, when the smoothness and speed of the interface directly depended on the iron filling. Nevertheless, it's nice to have in your pocket the kind of uncompromising power that HTC Butterfly shows, and so that you don't have any doubts about uncompromising, here are the results of synthetic tests:

And everything would be good in the characteristics, but if you look at the dry numbers, you can see two significant drawbacks: the small size of the internal memory by modern standards, only 16 GB with no microSD slot, and a 2020 mAh battery. It is easy to imagine how these two points show themselves in practice. I will provide real reports in the relevant sections.

Conclusion on this section unequivocal: HTC Butterfly is one of the most productive Android devices at the moment.

Autonomy

The smartphone is powered by a 2020 mAh non-removable battery. Despite the huge display resolution, in most cases the smartphone lives from morning to evening and demonstrates from 3 to 5 hours of screen backlighting in a mixed mode of the WiFi / 3G / EDGE network. In some cases, it is possible to get about 6 hours of clean working time with the backlight on. Due to the incomplete display of information about the battery consumption provided by the shell (there is no information about the operating time of the screen), I will give screenshots of the Gsam Battery Monitor application.

With a sparing use model, the smartphone can last about 2 days on a single battery charge. Naturally, it cannot compete with the leader of autonomy, Galaxy Note 2, but the results are quite decent - at the level of competitors and even slightly better.

Camera

The camera interface is standard for Sense shell... You can quickly start shooting without switching between photo / video modes - there are 2 buttons on the screen at once - this is convenient and reduces the time to start shooting, which is important in today's dynamic reality. The camera software has a lot of settings, you can manually adjust the exposure, ISO, there are options for preset white balance settings, there is a built-in mode for overlaying effects.

In addition, in the camera settings, you can enable automatic upload of all captured images to the Flickr service.

The main camera of the smartphone is based on an 8 megapixel matrix with backlighting. She takes good pictures even in low light levels and just great in bright sunlight and electric light. Photos taken with the HTC Butterfly are often better than those of the Galaxy Note 2, and on the whole there is parity in this regard. This is the first camera from HTC in my memory that shows really decent results on the level of competitors and even surpasses them in some cases. The camera has an HDR mode, fast shooting, but there is no panoramic shot. It is possible to switch between widescreen 16: 9 and conventional classic 4: 3 aspect ratio photos.

Examples of photography:

Play multimedia

Videos:

The smartphone turned out to be quite "omnivorous" when playing video files. I've tried 400MB, 1.6GB, and 4.66GB videos. HTC Butterfly played all the videos that I downloaded to my smartphone without any problems, despite the fact that Windows warned that it may not play on the device. True, with some caveat - a 1080p mkv file did not start in the native player, but it opened without problems in the third-party MX Player, and although the indicator showed that the playback was programmed, no lags were observed when watching the video.

Unfortunately, the built-in player does not allow switching audio tracks, but in the aforementioned MX, this feature is present.

Music:

The audio player also turned out to be quite good. It has a nice design and good basic functionality. During playback, the player widget is displayed in the notification panel and on the unlock screen. There is also a Beats Audio mode switch. Here I must warn you right away: before turning on playback for the first time or just before turning on this mode, manually reduce the playback volume, otherwise you will get a good hit on the eardrums, as the volume will increase dramatically and moreover seriously.

On the other hand, the music player downloaded the album cover in good quality from the Internet and replaced the old one with it. This is quite relevant in the presence of a Full HD screen, because now it becomes unpleasant to look at a blurry picture adapted for a low resolution.

As for the Beats Audio mode, I would not talk about some wonderful improvement in sound, although it is not bad in Butterfly anyway. Most likely this is just an expansion of the range, a similar effect can be achieved on other phones with the help of an equalizer and all sorts of sound enhancers. If we talk about playback through an external speaker, then the sound in the Butterfly NTS is quite loud and of high quality. Beats Audio mode does not work.

Sense shell

In principle, this section may be of interest to those who are not familiar with the HTC Sense shell. If not, pass by :)

As user interface HTC Butterfly uses the standard HTC Sense version 4 skin. I first encountered this shell in real operation, so, of course, there are many impressions, and they are ambiguous in their essence. In this article, I'll give you a quick overview of the features and describe my first impressions. This topic is quite extensive, so a more detailed opinion on Sense will be published next time - I'm going to write a full experience of using it after a while.

If you look from the point of view of a simple user, then, probably, this is a good and user-friendly interface... I have already reviewed the standard player in the previous section, let's take a look at the rest of the applications from the set of pre-installed software.

First Run Wizard

Basically, this is the standard master that meets anyone Android user when the device is started for the first time. Here it is supplemented with some branded "chips" and has an original design. Also, a feature of the wizard is that it can be launched at any time. This can be useful for beginner inexperienced users who are new to the menu. Android settings.

Desktop, basic shell elements and personalization

In the "Personalization" menu, you can customize the themes of the unlock screen. At the same time, you can put some built-in widgets here and control the composition of icons for quick access... In addition, for example, in the music playing mode, the player's widget is brought here automatically, replacing the theme settings.

Working with Android starts from the unlock screen:

Desktop, application menu and multitasking window:

Status bar and curtain with notification area:

There are no switches by default, I had to use the Power Toggles widget for this.

Settings menu:

Basically, it repeats the standard Android settings menu with some changes and additions. Naturally, everything is designed in the HTC corporate style. There are several unique features, for example HTC Media Link allows content to be output to compatible playback and display devices. There is a proprietary power saving mode that can be activated manually, it also turns on automatically when the battery is low.

Personalization of the phone and customization of the appearance:

The "Personalization" menu contains all the settings for changing the appearance of the shell. You can choose one of the preset scenes, customize the lock screen, choose background picture, change lock screen shortcuts and manage desktop content.

Phone and contacts:

The dialer in Sense is good. It has a pleasant ergonomic interface and beautiful design. By default, a quick search for T9 is available using the telephone keyboard in Russian. There is also a convenient function of batch linking contacts with data received from social networks - no need to select them one by one, this greatly speeds up the process initial setup contact list.

Everything is normal here. But nice and comfortable.

Calendar and tasks:

Lovely built-in widget apps that saved me the hassle of using third party solutions... Synchronization of tasks with GTasks is present.

Clock / World Time / Alarm / Stopwatch / Timer:

Automotive Mode:

A simplified desktop with enlarged shortcuts, on which the main elements necessary for driving a car are taken out.

Disadvantages:

  • In my firmware version, the screenshot taken is simply saved to the camera folder and there is no notification with actions in the "shutter"
  • Out of the box there are no switches in the notification panel - you have to use third-party solutions
  • There is no action on a long tap (hold) on the desktop to call options for its customization - for this you need to go to the settings and use the "Personalization" menu item
  • Can't resize the grid of desktop icons
  • If before locking the screen, you worked in any application, then after unlocking, in any case, you get to the desktop - an illogical "improvement" from HTC. Usually, in Android OS, you return to the same place where you were before locking the screen.

An interesting feature of the software is the ability quick turn on and turn off the phone. When you check the corresponding box in the settings menu, the phone starts loading several times faster, or rather, just almost instantly - up to 5 seconds from the moment you press the power button.

conclusions

In general, we can say that I liked the smartphone. It's slim, stylish, with a great display and a good camera. But, of course, it also has drawbacks, which include the glossy design of the back cover and the lack of a memory card slot. The built-in memory is only 16 GB, which is still not enough by modern standards. After installing all the software I need and several games, the actual memory, which will later be used for photo and video shooting, as well as for uploading multimedia content, is only 8 GB. For me, this is not enough, since my music folder, which is now on the external card of the Galaxy Note 2, is about 6 GB in size. If I completely fill it in Butterfly, there will be only a few gigabytes left, which will have to be disposed of with extreme frugality. And with the current size of the photo and video files that the camera produces, the space will run out very quickly. Whether this moment is critical for you, decide for yourself, based on your needs. When you turn on your phone for the first time, you can activate an additional 25GB of storage in the Dropbox cloud service, however, we understand that this is not a complete replacement for local storage. In addition, this offer is limited in time - free space is only allocated for 2 years. On the other hand, this is probably the maximum lifespan of today's smartphones, because the update lineup happens with incredible speed. Some users change their devices one or even several times a year.

As a result, it can be noted that at the moment HTC Butterfly is almost the best option among similar smartphones with FullHD screens. The smartphone is already available for purchase in Russia and Europe. Unfortunately, in Ukraine it will not be sold officially.

Looking into the near future and taking into account the release of the younger brother HTC Butterfly, the new HTC smartphone One, I would not consider these two devices as direct competitors due to the different screen sizes. Also, the issue with the camera in the new smartphone has not been fully clarified, but here already now I can confidently assert that the Butterfly camera is simply excellent.

If you are not embarrassed by the shortcomings that I described in the review, and you choose a large, fast 5-inch smartphone with an excellent screen, then HTC Butterfly can be safely recommended for purchase.

    1. Slim. Really thin. After talking with this phone, the rest seem to be swollen fatties. 2. Battery. When buying, I doubted that 2020 mAh would be sufficient, but after a week of active use, all my doubts were dispelled. The phone quietly keeps a day of very active (calls, sms, player, applications, internet surfing) use, and a couple of days of moderate (calls, sms). 3. Design. It really attracts attention. I have a red glazed back panel, which by the way does not scratch. 4. Screen. Stunning, bright, juicy, very responsive, with a chic scratch-resistant glass. 5. High-speed performance. Games, applications and so on - fly. I did not notice any slowdowns.

Great screen, really big and really bright, very responsive! Excellent vibration, not just good, but excellent. With a new Sense firmware 5 - the device has become a super device for me - everything is convenient and beautiful. The body is plastic gloss - not afraid of scratches and drops, tk. the phone itself is lightweight. Akum. keeps stable for a day - one and a half, and this is with constant work: music, calls, Internet surfing. If it hadn't been so big, I would have bought it for my wife. And so I think to buy her a new one One mini, you just need to touch it in the store =)

Of course, the reference 5 "display is a fairy tale.

Design - looks very cool! Build quality - everything is very clear, no creaks, no groans! The processor and video is a very powerful percent and a video card, I put different 3D games all go with a bang without brakes. Screen - before that there was DesireS (at the time of purchase, also a flagship), after it, the screen is Fantastic, it does not glare, you can see everything in the sun, and 5 inches looks and reads very well! The battery is quite normal. It holds little for all androids. But that's enough for me. If you load it hard, then it's enough for a day. If only to call then it took almost 3 days. But for me, charging is not a problem - in the car, at work, at home, there are wiring everywhere. Those who whine about charging just cling to an extra USB cable. Speaker - yells like a victim :), in headphones, the quality is very good, subject to availability quality headphones!

Excellent screen, decent sound, excellent performance, card slot (x920d), great camera

I own x920d. I broke the touchscreen, so I opened it. The water resistance is really good. There is an elastic band around the entire perimeter and in places it is smeared with sealant. We have written enough about other advantages here, so I will write about the disadvantages.

A large display, good viewing angles, excellent color rendition, the camera shoots just fine (before that I never thought that I would use the phone as a camera). not stupid, after three months of hard operation, it froze once (stopped finding the network), the reboot brought it back to life,

Large screen, does not glare in the sun, very clearly visible even in direct light. The screen is responsive and the plus is covered protective glass Gorilla Glass 2, which is very hard to scratch! The processor is good, it does not buggy even when a lot of applications are running. All games run without glitches and brakes. The phone itself works without brakes, performance and responsiveness. The body of the phone is made of glossy plastic, but I personally have been carrying it for half a year in my pocket without a cover and not a single scratch. Very comfortable to hold in your hand. At first it seemed like a big "shovel", but now I'm used to it and the fact that it is a little bigger than its brothers in the market (HTC One, Sony Xperia Z) is now only in favor of the phone. It is very comfortable to hold in hand due to the rounded edges of the phone. Great camera! Has many functions, filters

Great camera, bright screen, powerful processor, everything works just awesome and in sync, etc.

Perhaps the only drawback, for me personally, is the presence of a micro SIM card. Although everything was resolved relatively quickly. The Internet is full of templates for cutting usually a SIM card to a micro SIM. Yes, it's still quite difficult to find a cover for a book. The one that I found is very fat, which disfigures the phone itself. I carry it without a cover, in my pocket.

The only drawback for me was the lack of a memory card

the bottom plug came off - often "played" with it, well, okay.

Top lock button! Not very convenient even for me with my size (two meters in height).
    No more flaws!

For me personally, none. Someone may be stressed by the lack of newfangles in the form of NFC, LTE, etc. - for me at this stage is not essential.

PC connection protocol MTP. For the user, this means that it will not be possible to play or watch anything directly from the phone. It seems a trifle, but in fact, to view photos or sort videos (which are on average 1 - 3 gigabytes for me) - you need to throw all this junk on a computer. Music also does not play on MTP.
    - S-On, which, however, has already been defeated, but nevertheless. I was wildly surprised to find that the phone I bought was not actually mine. And I can't put an ad blocker on it, or change the DPI because the manufacturer doesn't want to.
    - The fact that the battery is not removable. Probably for the sake of waterproofing.
    - To take out the microSD, you need to have long nails.
Everything that I remembered at a glance.

Rear panel it is very scratched even in a case with a suede backing.

Incomprehensible external speaker on the back. The alarm clock screams like crazy in the morning, and the music is played not so loudly, but still a very good clear sound. The speakers do not hiss, do not wheeze, and do not distort the sound at all.
Battery 2000mA. I'm always on Mobile Internet and the access point is often turned on (I distribute wi-fi to other people! this function is also here!), I constantly surf social networks, I play in my free time. The battery lasts all day, at the end of the day it remains somewhere between 25-20%. If you listen to music, it will last for 5-6 hours. If you play, it's enough for 4-5 hours. I am happy with the battery, but still it is small, although the phone is rather thin thanks to the small battery.

It happens that it gets stupid, and sometimes games crash.

Recently appeared on the Russian market new smartphone Butterfly. This gadget was announced in Japan as HTC J Butterfly, and in the US as HTC DROID DNA. True, there are slight differences - in the Russian version of the device, you cannot expand the built-in memory using cards, since they are not supported. Otherwise, the characteristics are identical. The device became the first smartphone with a 4-core processor and a 5-inch display supporting Full HD resolution.

HTC Butterfly looks very similar to its Japanese cousin HTC J Butterfly. The smartphone looks very good-looking - sporty lines, cool red and of course a huge bright display on the front. The dimensions of the device are 141x70.5x9.08 mm, and the weight is 138 g. Above the screen, you can see the front camera, speaker and sensors, and below it - touch-sensitive control buttons with white backlight.

The build quality of the phone is superb. It is made of soft-touch plastic, and the entire front surface is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

There is nothing on the left side of the device, and on the right there is a lonely paired volume control key. On the top there is a power / lock button, a microSIM card tray, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a second microphone for noise cancellation.

The microUSB port is located at the bottom of the device, it is protected by a small plastic cover.

The main camera with LED flash is located at the top of the back of the device, while below you can see the speaker grill and logos.

Note that the battery in HTC Butterfly is not removable.

The smartphone is very comfortable to work with: it is almost as narrow as the HTC One X, and the soft plastic provides a good grip between the hand and the body.

In addition to the phone, the kit includes a microUSB cable and a small key for removing a microSIM card.

Performance and software

HTC Butterfly has at its disposal a QualcommAPQ8064 4-core processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, an Adreno 320 graphics accelerator and 2 GB of RAM. The device is running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Also, the smartphone has 16 GB of internal memory, of which only 11 GB will be available to users. The Russian version does not provide a slot for microSD / SDHC cards.

We were able to test the device, as it was very curious to see how the four Krait cores and the Adreno 320 video processor cope with the Full HD resolution.

We'll start with the BenchMark Pi benchmark, which displays the performance of a single processor core. As expected, the Krait architecture helped HTC Butterfly outperform its 4-core competitors. I was impressed that they managed to beat the Optimus G, despite the identical processor cores.

The Linpack benchmark supports multithreading and thus helps to get an idea of the processing power of the 4-core processors of this architecture. Here HTC Butterfly lost quite a bit to its competitor Optimus G, but at the same time it outperformed other models significantly.

The Quadrant benchmark tried to estimate the overall power of the chipset - CPU, GPU, and memory. Our test subject performed impressively, despite the fact that the high resolution of the display is a big problem for GPUs.

In the AnTuTu test, the gadget showed rather poor results, beating the Optimus G, but losing out to most 4-core devices.

The 3D graphics are controlled by the Adreno 320 GPU. Here the GLBenchmark test will help us navigate. In it, the smartphone received the highest score.

Thus, we can say that the novelty is a very powerful device, although it does not have the advantages of graphics power to fully compensate for the high display resolution, which of course will not be a problem in most real-life scenarios.

The device supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS / A-GPS, 3G and LTE networks.

From software preinstalled: browser, mail client, programs for integration with, audio and video players, navigation services and some other applications and games.

Full HD movies play quite smoothly, no problems were noticed here. Games like Dead Trigger and Death Dome don't slow down and play great.

Screen

HTC Butterfly uses a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen Super LCD-display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and 16.78 million colors. Thanks to the density of 441 ppi, the gadget bypasses the proposals of the main competitors, since the sharpness goes beyond the limits of human perception.

Contrast and clarity are also pretty good, and the display is comfortable to work even in direct sunlight. The color scheme is very natural. So the screen can be rated "excellent".

Hopefully, most manufacturers will offer high-definition displays on their flagship models this year.

Camera

HTC Butterfly has an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus function. It allows you to take pictures with maximum resolution 3264х2448 pixels and record video with a resolution of 1920х1080 pixels with a frame rate of 30 fps.

The camera control interface is quite ordinary.

The camera has spot focus, geotagging, can detect faces, take photos -, panorama, portrait, group portrait, landscape, boards, macro and low light.

Butterfly is equipped with a camera with f / 2.0 aperture and a special image processing chip, like in the HTC One X, so the photos taken with these gadgets are similar, but it seems that on our subject the color rendition is much better.

Below are examples of shots taken with the HTC Butterfly camera.

Capturing images is very fast. This is facilitated by the installed image processing chip.

Video recording is, in our opinion, one of the advantages of the device. It is of good quality, you can distinguish a large number of small details, colors are reproduced fairly accurately, and noise is not too high.

For video calls, the smartphone has a 2.1-megapixel front camera.

Battery

The smartphone has a non-removable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 2020 mAh, which, according to the manufacturer, should be enough for 353 hours of standby time and 12 hours and 40 minutes of talk time.

In fact, with average use of the device, the battery lasts no more than a day. And when playing high-definition video at full brightness, the display lasted 3 hours 3 minutes on a single charge.

Price

The cost of HTC Butterfly on the Russian market is 29,990 rubles. This is the usual price for a modern flagship device for most companies.

Of the minuses, we note the following: there is no microSD slot, only 11 GB of user-accessible memory, a non-removable battery.

HTC Butterfly video review:

HTC Butterfly features a 5-inch Super LCD 3 LCD with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 2, a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in flash memory with support for microSD cards. The display resolution is 441 ppi.

The world's first FullHD smartphone HTC J Butterfly: first look

Recently, HTC has not so much surprised with something innovative, but pleased with very powerful smartphones. Each subsequent gadget of this vendor (at least this year) seemed to prove to everyone that HTC can jump even higher. The new J Butterfly is no exception to this rule.
