Apple had a special challenge this year. She needed to do something more perfect than the iPad 2, although, due to its popularity and the sluggish development of Android tablets, in general, it did not need an update. Therefore, the Cupertinians decided to focus on the main problem in their second "pill". And, frankly speaking, the efforts expended were not in vain. The new iPad has become even more perfect, overtaking its closest competitors in all respects.
All the best deals on iPads (there are even 10 thousand cheaper than the market). They change something and even give it away for free.
Box new iPad is no different from the packaging of last year's tablet. High quality white cardboard, minimum amount of waste paper, cable, Charger and two miniature apple stickers. The main difference from all other generations is the picture of the iPad itself, on the springboard of which a new blue "wallpaper" is installed.
Frightened by the reviews of the first buyers of iPad 3, I took it out of the box and began to twirl it in my hands. I tried to feel the increased weight and thickness, but, fortunately, I could not notice either one or the other. Finding the Home Power / Lock button, I pressed it and saw it - new screen with a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels!
Finally, after the iPhone 4 / 4S screen, the iPad display can be viewed with the same pleasure! Icons standard applications and the entire interface of the iOS operating system just comes to life before our eyes. I peered at the Facetime and icons for a long time, but I still could not see at least some hint of a pixel. Text in already updated for Retina-screen new iPad ereaders looks just gorgeous, yielding to traditional periodicals only the worst behavior in direct sunlight.
No matter how hard I tried, I did not notice an increase in the speed of the system. Launched various applications, HD videos on Youtube, played in GTA III and Real Racing 2 HD, but did not notice any features of the updated chip Apple A5X with 4-core GPU which is used in the new iPad. We will wait for specialized toys from the developers from Epic Games, and then we will draw some conclusions.

After 15 minutes of testing the third-generation iPad camera, I finally realized for myself that its absence on the back cover of the tablet would not upset me at all. It would be much more interesting to get an improved front camera for Facetime / Skype conversations. It makes no sense to compare the quality of photos of iPad 3 with iPad 2, so I ran the camera of the “third” under the watchful eye of iPhone 4S. Compared to the iPhone 4S, shots on the iPad 3 are less saturated. The optics are the same, but the sensors are different. The iPad 3 is cheaper.
I have little idea of people running along the street and taking pictures on the iPad, but due to the weight of the tablet, there will be less blur in the pictures than on the same iPhone :) The iPad 3 sensor is comparable to the iPhone 4 - it processes information there and there Omnivision OV5650 with an operating temperature range of -30 to 70 ° C and an active cell size of 1.75 microns (versus 1.4 microns for the iPhone 4S).

It is curious that in a car with a running navigator and activated GPS, charging the iPad 3 from the cigarette lighter can take several days.

When you look from iPad 2 to iPad 3, you get deja vu, as in the case of comparing the quality of screens on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Once you fix your gaze on the iPad 3, you no longer want to look at anything else.

The world announcement of the Apple iPad 3 (A1430) took place on March 16, 2012, but even so, the first review was made about a week earlier by Vietnamese reviewers. The impression from Apple iPad 3 is controversial, because it seems that we have already seen something similar somewhere. Indeed, the novelty is very much reminiscent of the previous generation iPad, to the extent that the controls are the same in shape and are located in identical places in the structure.
In general, there is nothing wrong with the direct resemblance of the new item to that, because the old model is considered the "gold standard" among tablets. Nevertheless, the device should be somewhat different and the main emphasis here was on the technical characteristics and on the price). When the Apple iPad 3 (A1430) entered the market, it cost about 40,000 rubles for the 64 GB version, in fact, the question immediately arises: is the device worth such a lot of money? So let's look at this.
The device measures 241x186x9 mm and weighs 650 grams. The weight of the new mobile device made me very happy with its even distribution, which cannot be said about many Android tablets. The camera here is similar to the iPhone 4S with autofocus, in good lighting it shoots quite well for a mobile device, but there is nothing to boast about. The module is capable of recording video in 1080p format.
It is worth noting that the novelty has a less easily soiled rear panel that does not scratch, and the quality of materials will subjectively be a little more interesting. Now let's take a closer look at the technical specifications.
Screen
The main difference between the new Apple iPad 3 (A1430) from its predecessor is its screen, the resolution of which has increased from the traditional 1024x768 pixels to a really impressive 2048x1536. The pixel density on such a screen is 264 ppi. So, if you hold the device at a distance of half a meter from yourself, then you will not notice any pixels.
At the first glance at the app icons and text, you will at least be impressed, because the level of detail is truly amazing. In general, having seen such a screen at least once, you will probably lose the desire to use something else. Viewing angles, as before, are at their best, the color gamut is 99% in RGB (in contrast to its predecessor, where this indicator was equal to 61%).
Performance
Now even tastier - performance specifications. The Apple iPad 3 (A1430) is powered by the 1GHz Apple A5X processor (ARM Cortex-A9 base) and the PowerVR SGX543MP4 quad-core graphics chip. The amount of RAM has increased and is now 1 GB. If we again compare the device with its predecessor, then it is difficult to notice a special difference in the performance gain, because the updated characteristics are corny "gobbled up" by the impressive screen resolution.
But some applications really started to start up a little faster and this is due to the increased amount of RAM. All in all, animations are fast and crisp, apps launch instantly, and a great touch response has long been a standard for Apple. Android devices do not reach this level of their devices, although some of them are even good at it, but against the background of iOS, they still look a little ridiculous and unfinished.
Battery and heating
Apple iPad 3 (A1430) received an LTE module, impressive 4-core graphics, a screen with a huge resolution - this requires significantly more power than was previously required. So what did the company's developers provide us? And they presented a battery for 43 W-hours, which is 70% more than that of its predecessor; that's about 20% more than the 11-inch MacBook Air.
According to the manufacturer, the Apple iPad 3 can last about 10 hours via connected Wi-Fi or 9 hours via LTE. In reality, the Apple iPad 3 really surprised: the device was able to work for more than 12 hours when watching HD video, which is really worthy of applause.
But gaining something, we lose something. The increase in performance and its energy consumption has led to a long charging process. For an 8 hour night, the tablet manages to charge by about 80-85% via USB, which is not very pleasing. Also, do not lose sight of the moment that the device began to get really hot, especially with increased loads in games.
Outcomes
The review turned out to be really short, because we did not discuss operating system Here's why: iOS on the old iPad and the new Apple iPad 3 (A1430) is the same. The difference can only be overlooked in the slightly modified display of icons and fonts. Well, it is worth noting that by acquiring this device, you get a closed operating system, which is nonetheless dominant among mobile devices... IOS also offers a slightly larger range of apps in its company store than Android, although the difference is not particularly noticeable.
Of the truly impressive features of the device, it is worth highlighting its 2048x1536 pixel screen with maximum viewing angles and stunning picture quality. Having looked at such a screen at least once, a person will hardly want to use any other screen, although we do not forget that competitors are not asleep.
At the same time, the price of the device remained about the same, and the time autonomous work really could please. In other words, we have before us the same old iPad, but more advanced. If you compare the Apple iPad 3 with its Android competitors, then the Apple device will cost a little more for the price, but there really is something to pay for.
Reasons to buy Apple iPad 3:
- excellent design and screen, durable aluminum body;
- a screen that has practically no competitors;
- the speed of work is beyond praise;
- a huge range of software;
- long working time.
Reasons not to buy an Apple iPad 3:
- too long charging process;
- strong heating of the case, especially at increased loads.
Here it is, the display of my dreams, without the slightest exaggeration! By the way, the review of the new iPad 3 (The New iPad) can not be done at all, if you just talk about the display, it is really gorgeous. Before that, I owned the coolest display, but now a new, very high bar in display resolution has been set. However, the display is not the only big innovation in the new product.
Appearance and design features
An inexperienced user is unlikely to immediately be able to name ten differences between the designs of the second and third iPad. Because there are only four of them: the new product is slightly thicker (9.4 mm versus 8.8 in the iPad 2), a little heavier (652 g versus 601 in Wi-Fi versions), the camera lenses are slightly different and the sync cable socket inside is now metal. That's all, I can't mention anything else new in design.
Guess where who is!
The 0.6mm thicker is not as striking as the slightly increased weight. Waving two generations of iPad it feels like, but I mentioned this difference so, for the record. In reality, there is not the slightest discomfort.
Probably, most of all I was interested in the compatibility of accessories with the new generation of iPad, including Smart Cover. As it turned out, all the magnets are in place, Smart Cover works great, even the case got dressed without any problems.
Camera
The camera is called iSight and I'll start with it. Why? Because if you look your common sense in the eye, this is the best camera of any device with the "i" prefix. There is a camera from the iPhone 4, on top of which is installed optics from the iPhone 4s. And that means a lot! Now it will be boring infa, do not read. The size of the matrix in the last two generations of the iPhone is the same, but one has 5 million pixels, and the second already has 8 million. This means that the size of each individual pixel in the iPhone 4 is larger, which means it is more sensitive to light. This means that this matrix is better, but why then does the iPhone 4s shoot better? It's all about the optics, which are much faster than their predecessor. But, if you put a 5 MP matrix in the iPhone 4s, guess what! Photos will be much better quality, especially in low light conditions. And we see this picture in iPad 3 (it's easier to write such a name).

Agree, the quality of photos on the highest level, although this comparison is very small to understand which camera shoots better. But if you remember the past generation of iPad, the difference is colossal! Now we are waiting for Instagram for iPad too!

Screen
It was not for nothing that I started my review by mentioning the new display. Whatever one may say, what do not add to the new iPad, namely Retina Display everyone waited the most. But, even though everyone was ready for this, the display quality never ceases to shock the user, especially if you have previously used an iPad or iPad 2. The resolution has increased from 1024x768 to 2048x1536 pixels, with the same diagonal of 9.7 ″ , and the pixel density, respectively, from 132 ppi to 264 ppi. It is noticeable, whatever one may say, even if you do not like to count pixels, as I love to do!

Pictures are clickable and I highly recommend opening the examples in full size to see the scale of the difference. I think it is unnecessary to indicate who is on the right and who is on the left.
The reverse side of "Retina"
No, the display itself has no downsides. But there are consequences of the innovation. For example, so that the tablet does not diminish in autonomy and continues to work for 10 hours under normal load, the battery capacity had to be increased by 70%, respectively, the thickness of the device and the weight increased slightly. But the biggest problem will overtake users of older generations of the tablet, as well as those who buy the 16 GB version. The fact is that developers are updating their applications, adding support for the new resolution. And this is correct, but the size of applications, in this case, increases, often two to three times. For example, the Twitter client TweetBot now weighs 25 MB instead of 9. Standalone iPad 2 apps or original iPad do not leave, even though they do not need the support of the "retina". Naturally, 16 GB will now be consumed at least twice as fast. If you haven’t had an iOS tablet yet and think that 16 GB will be enough - think again, there are a lot of applications for iPad and you will fill up your memory anyway. I recommend looking at least towards the 32GB version. Even the size of the screenshots is impressive! Because of this resolution, sometimes screenshots are up to 4MB.
Performance
IPad 3 features an updated A5x processor with quad-core graphics. In addition, the RAM has doubled in comparison with the previous generation. But I noticed one peculiarity, heavy games and applications run on iPad 3 and on iPad 2 in almost the same way, for example, the game Sky Gamblers, which Namco showed during the tablet announcement. Of course, the huge resolution negates the performance gain a bit. But you can still feel the difference in the browser. Pages iPad 3 loads more than just faster, the difference between loading times is a big chasm. This is especially noticeable on heavy sites like Theverge.com.
Of course, the interface, like all software, runs exceptionally smoothly on the new iPad.
4G
If you are not from the US, don't worry. Why worry about functions that simply don't work for us? But I would buy myself a version with 4G, because 3G has not gone anywhere.
Siri
My aunt is gone, it's a pity. Instead, there is Voice Dictation - typing using voice. But the Russian language is not supported, buy tablets on Android - it is supported there.
Output
iPad 3, or The New iPad - a tablet without compromise. If you are just going to buy a tablet, be sure to pay attention to it, the younger version costs $ 499 in the United States. If you need a cheaper tablet, don't rush to the Nukes and Kindles right away, iPad 2 now starts at $ 399 and that's not enough. I expressed my opinion about the new generation iPad in, in short - Apple left everyone else far behind. Competitors have hardly started to catch up with the iPad 2 in terms of performance, although no one is so fast as Apple released the iPad 3. And in terms of price and quality of software, the rest are still very far from the current leader among tablets. But there are alternatives, if the specificity of iOS does not suit you in one way or another, pay attention to the one already mentioned, or if 10 ″ is a lot for you.
The new iPad was eagerly awaited. Apple in the second version of the device did not please with a super-resolution display, ordering to wait for the third iPad. iPad 2 "just" received a thinner body, a processor with a graphics subsystem and a camera. Fans had to wait until spring 2012 for the new display. And now, when the iPad 3 with a new screen has finally come out, voices are heard again that, they say, it will somehow be a little bit revolutionary. But is it worth asking more? Developers have not yet managed to increase the battery life of devices (perhaps this is the main problem of tablets) or to install there such powerful processors as in stationary PCs. With the resolution of the display, a breakthrough has happened - and this is already a lot.
A display called Retina is the main trump card. Other changes in the parameters are somehow connected with the "maintenance" of the screen (new processor and more capacious battery). The innovativeness of the display with the naked eye is not visible to everyone and not immediately. But many owners of the second iPad have already noticed the obvious difference in image quality and began to sigh with envy. Where and how the advantages of the display are manifested, what benefits the screen promises to the user with a resolution of 2048x1536 that is not available on any other device, we will try to make out in our review.
Complete set and design
The device comes with a power adapter, a cable, a pin for opening the SIM card slot, as well as a brochure and traditional branded stickers with apples.
Outwardly, the third iPad is practically no different from the second. Like the second, the third iPad has no ends, thanks to the strongly rounded back cover. The body has become a little thicker (it was 8.8 mm - it became 9.4 mm), the tablet became heavier, apparently due to a more capacious battery installed to power the powerful screen.
The control buttons also have not changed in comparison with the second version of the device: the Home key, the power button, the mute switch and its regulator. Speakers and a proprietary connector for a cable or docking station are located on the lower end of the case (more precisely, on the smooth surfaces between back cover and front panel). Above is a 3.5 mm headphone output and a power button.
Retina display
If you already own an iPad 2, then the main question for you is whether my old device is worth the new one. The most important thing here is not to accidentally bump into the screen of the new iPad, since what you previously thought was a wonderful display can be completely disappointing in comparison with the new Retina screen.

The display is really great. This is not to say that he is downright fascinating, but there is an explanation for this. There are practically no applications, games and sites designed for such a resolution. Of course, Apple did its best before the presentation of the new product and transferred the corporate website to mega-resolution, but it is difficult to find other content for this display. Of course, over time, games for iPad 3 will definitely appear, but for now we can just note that images, letters and colors on Retina look several orders of magnitude better. By the way, due to the increase in resolution, the number of icons on the display has not increased at all. Everything remains the same - twenty icons.
Of course, we could not resist the temptation to test the various capabilities of the tablet on the new screen. Maps, for example, work exactly the same as on the second iPad. One could expect that they will display a large area, but no - they have not yet been adapted for the new resolution. But the capabilities of the display are revealed when viewing photos in high definition, and also when reading, when the number of pixels allows you to increase text and images without losing quality.
Therefore, we draw the first conclusion - the new iPad will become the choice of users reading from TFT displays or working with graphic files. The screen is great, and it makes the iPad 3 a clear favorite among other tablets on the market.
Browser
The story about the browser, in fact, will be a continuation of the story about the Retina display. The browser is the same - the familiar Safari. The situation is better here than with cards. The branded Apple browser on the iPad can display sites that are laid out in columns on a full screen. But when faced with the "rubber" design of sites, the browser displays their web pages in a peculiar way, violating the author's layout of the site. But in general, the innovations of the new iPad contribute to the fact that the images are well drawn (thanks to the new screen), and page loading - high speed(thanks to the powerful processor).
As in previous versions Safari browser does not support flash. For this reason, videos on some pages may not play.

It is only when you seriously load the processor with such processes as processing graphic files or launching a powerful toy that the heating of the lower left part of the rear surface of the device is detected. Plus, your iPad heats up when it's plugged in and you're running the same high-performance apps. In these situations, the heating is noticeable, although it is still quite tolerable for the hands. This fact can hardly be attributed to serious problems, since ordinary users rarely run programs that seriously load the processor.
Performance
Although the second iPad did not suffer from performance problems, the third managed to surpass it in this area. Applications open at supersonic speed, browser pages load very quickly, and even games with "heavy" graphics run an order of magnitude faster.
Operating time on one battery charge
Contrary to expectations, the presence of a powerful display has practically no effect on the battery life of the device. We make a nod to the powerful battery, the capacity of which has increased to 11560 mAh. The manufacturer initially assured the public that the third iPad would run on battery power no less than the second. And it turned out to be true. The results of the second iPad in the same modes are best for a couple of tens of minutes, which allows us to conclude that the battery life of the old and new models is quite comparable.

This is a more powerful processor and absolutely crazy for a tablet 2048x1536 screen resolution. Plus a new camera that migrated from the iPhone 4s. Of course, there is still support for 4G, but it is not relevant for Russians, since 4G from Yota uses a different frequency in Russia.
Obviously, the iPad 3 is better than the iPad 2, but as we can see, the second version of the device has not been discontinued and both of these modifications are sold in parallel. The second iPad has become a kind of budget version, and the third is a top-end, more expensive and has advantages that Android tablets do not yet have. Thus, you can decide on the purchase based on your budget.
And if Android models are able to successfully compete with the iPad 2, then the hero of our review has no competitors yet. You can even say that there are just tablets and there is a third iPad. Although there are several more than decent devices among the models on Android, in our opinion, they have not been able to compete on equal terms with the iPad 3.
