Slim and comfortable LG G FLEX2 - Review of the updated smartphone. Slim and comfortable LG G FLEX2 - Review of the updated smartphone Lg g flex 2 description

Detailed testing of the first smartphone on the most powerful of the Qualcomm platforms

After the release of their first curved smartphone with an unusual body shape, LG G Flex, which became more a demonstration of the company's new capabilities than a real mass product, the Koreans announced it a year later. updated version... First unveiled at CES 2015 in the American city of Las Vegas, the new LG G Flex 2 smartphone incorporates all the best that was inherent in its predecessor, at the same time correcting all its negative aspects. The size of the display has decreased, while the screen resolution has increased and reached the optimal FHD, which certainly did the new model to the advantage. Most importantly, the LG G Flex 2 is the first mass-produced mobile product in the world to run on the latest and most advanced Snapdragon 810 hardware platform from market leader Qualcomm.

The smartphone is not only very powerful and productive, but also makes full use of all the other advantages of the new platform: the new 20 nm manufacturing process, lower power consumption, and the most advanced network capabilities, and the Qiuck Charge 2.0 fast charging function. In terms of the number of new technologies collected in one device, the LG G Flex 2 smartphone turned out to be so advanced that it attracted the closest attention of all market participants and managed to receive many awards, including from the organizers of the CES 2015 exhibition in Las Vegas.

At one time, we introduced readers to the main characteristics of the novelty in a report from the exhibition, but now it's time to conduct the most detailed testing of all the capabilities of this largely extraordinary mobile device.

Contents of delivery

LG G Flex 2 goes on sale in a very small, almost the size of a smartphone itself, a cardboard box with thin jumpers for internal compartments to accommodate a poor set of accessories. The minimum of inscriptions and the absence of color make the packaging quite strict and stylish.

The accessory kit consists of a compact charger with fast charging (1.8A output current), a Micro-USB connection cable, branded LE530 headphones and paper documentation. The package bundle is modest, but we can only thank the manufacturer for the high-quality headphones. However, it remains to be seen whether the headphones will be present in the box for the copies supplied to the Russian market.

Here it is worth mentioning the gratifying fact that even despite the unusually curved shape of the case, an additional accessory has been created for the LG G Flex 2 - a QuickCircle case with a round window. The cover, of course, is sold separately, it is not included in the standard package.

Appearance and usability

The design of the new smartphone has hardly changed in relation to the previous curved G Flex. The LG G Flex 2 still has the same curved display along the short end, the bend of which follows the entire body, and the bend of the body of the G Flex 2 is steeper than that of its predecessor: its radius is 650 mm from the front and 700 mm from the rear. This ergonomic design is believed to bring the microphone closer to the mouth for better speech transmission and less ambient noise. Also, the increased bending radius allows you to comfortably hold the smartphone in your hand and carry it in your pocket. Perhaps even in the back, since the body is sufficiently resistant to slight deformations.

As for the materials of manufacture, it is mainly plastic, of course: hard and glossy, and this is perhaps one of the most serious shortcomings of the LG G Flex series. Like the first model, the plastic here has an unusual "self-tightening" coating, which is able to independently remove minor scratches on the case. However, if the case did not have this shiny lacquer coating, then there would be much less scratches on it. It is much easier to use a practical rough textured plastic that would not get dirty, not covered with scratches and was firmly held in the hand - but no, you must first make a soiled gloss, and then "heal" it. The developers promise that the time for tightening scratches on the coating of the new smartphone has significantly decreased compared to the previous one, but real tests prove that just as scratches a little deeper than from pressing with a fingernail did not heal, they do not tighten. With a couple of scratches that we carefully made on our test unit, the device survived for more than two weeks, and they never lasted. So that's all, rather marketing gimmicks rather than functionality useful in real life.

The smartphone turned out to be quite large, although for its display size the case has the smallest possible dimensions with very narrow frames around the screen. Due to the bending of the rear wall, the device fits well in the hand, but the glossy and slippery coating does not allow us to speak of a reliable grip on the palm. The back wall is slightly sloping, the side edges are narrowed, due to this, the device fits comfortably in a pocket. True, sharp corners are completely superfluous here, they could be given a much greater rounding. Sharp corners make the body wider, which makes the smartphone take up much more space in your pocket and at times is unpleasantly pressed into the skin.

The back cover is entirely plastic, with a fairly thick profile, unusually firm and inflexible, it is securely attached to the case due to several latches. The cover can be removed easily enough, for this there is a small ledge for engaging with a fingernail. The side frame is made of metal, but it is also painted in the general color of the case, and even varnished, which is why it has become the same slippery mark. In general, the assembly raises no objections, all parts are tightly fitted, no creaks or cracks are observed.

The cover hides the only dual slot for a SIM card and a memory card, there are no other slots here, the battery is also non-removable. Only one SIM card is supported, the format is for some reason not Nano-, but Micro-SIM, which can be considered a disadvantage, since thanks to Apple and most global brands, all modern flagship novelties are already equipped with Nano-SIM support, here you will have to use an adapter.

On the back of the smartphone is a large square camera window, framed by a thin ring. On the sides of it are an LED flash and a laser rangefinder for measuring the distance to the subject of photography. Like all previous top LG smartphones, the button block is also placed on the back side. The buttons do not have any protective edges - like the LG G3, none of the keys protrude beyond the casing, so accidental presses from contact with the surface are excluded.

The purpose of the buttons remains the same: the central key is used to turn on and lock the smartphone, and the other two, above and below, are responsible for adjusting the volume. The extended capabilities of the block of hardware buttons provide additional functionality in control: a long hold of the upper button launches the Qmemo application, the lower one calls the camera from sleep mode, and a long press of the central button activates taking a photo or video.

Slightly higher, at the top end, you can see the infrared port, which is used to emulate the remote control when controlling household appliances. The program with pre-built operating profiles for various brands of TVs, audio systems and other equipment is already installed in the smartphone.

At the bottom of the rear panel there is a slot for sound output from the speaker, covered with a metal grill. The surface of the table does not cover the speaker hole, since it falls on the bend and does not reach the surface.

The front side is completely covered with a protective Gorilla Glass 3, which has been given a curved shape using special technologies. It is also reported that thanks to the efforts of the LG Chem division, this protective glass, which has undergone additional processing, has become an additional 20% stronger. In the upper part above the screen in the glass you can find a slot for the earpiece grill. Nearby you can see the peephole of the front camera and sensors. There is also a notification LED, which shines in different colors - its functions are regulated in the corresponding section of the settings.

There are no touch buttons below the screen, they have moved to the screen. The block with virtual buttons can be removed and returned back with a gesture, and it is also possible to rearrange the buttons in places in a more user-friendly sequence.

At the bottom end there are both connectors: an audio output for headphones (minijack) and a universal Micro-USB 2.0 that supports connecting devices in OTG mode. The connectors are not covered with covers and plugs, since the smartphone is not protected from water. There is no strap attachment on the case either. For some reason, the device does not support wireless charging, unlike the LG G3.

As for the possibility of choosing the color of the smartphone, then, as you may have already noticed, this time another one was added to the gray, so that the user now has a choice of two different color options: silver (Platinum Silver) and crimson red (Flamenco Red).

Screen

LG G Flex 2 is equipped with a P-OLED (Plastic OLED) sensor matrix, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The screen dimensions are 68 × 121 mm, the diagonal is 5.5 inches, the resolution is 1920 × 1080 pixels. Accordingly, the dot density here is equal to 401 ppi.

The width of the bezels from the edge of the screen to the edge of the case is about 3 mm at the sides, 12 mm at the top, and 16 mm at the bottom. The frames are traditionally extremely narrow for the flagship LG G series, the developers have once again managed to fit a huge display with a diagonal size of 5.5 inches into a fairly acceptable body size.

In the display settings, you can enable automatic brightness control depending on the ambient light, as well as use auto brightness, which can be adjusted by analyzing the color of the image to save battery power. In addition, in the settings of the screen modes, there are several profiles that regulate the color balance. The multitouch technology here allows you to process 10 simultaneous touches. When you bring the smartphone to your ear, the screen is locked using a proximity sensor. By double tapping on the glass, the screen can be awakened, and also put back to sleep.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" sections Alexey Kudryavtsev... Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth (and curved) surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are no worse than those of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the turned off screens (on the left - Nexus 7, on the right - LG G Flex 2, then they can be distinguished by their size):

The screen of the LG G Flex 2 is slightly darker (brightness in the photos is 102 versus 106 for the Nexus 7) and does not have a pronounced shade. The doubling of reflected objects on the LG G Flex 2 screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen. Due to the smaller number of boundaries (such as glass / air) with greatly different refractive indices, screens without an air gap look better in conditions of strong ambient light, but their repair in case of cracked outer glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. The outer surface of the LG G Flex 2 screen has a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (very effective, noticeably better than the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are much easier to remove and appear at a slower rate than in the case of regular glass.

When the white field was displayed in full screen and with manual brightness control, its maximum value was 330 cd / m², the minimum - 49 cd / m². You also need to take into account the fact that in this case the smaller the white area on the screen, the lighter it is, that is, the actual maximum brightness of the white areas will almost always be higher than the specified value. For example, when outputting white on half of the screen and black on the other, the maximum brightness with manual adjustment increases to 340 cd / m². As a result, the readability in the daytime in the sun should be at a fairly good level (we did not have the opportunity to check the possibilities). For conditions of complete darkness, the minimum brightness is too high - the eyes are too bright and the energy is wasted in vain. Automatic brightness control works according to the light sensor (it is located to the right of the slot of the front speaker). You can make adjustments to how this function works by moving the setting slider. Further, for three conditions, we give the screen brightness values for three values of this setting - for 0, 50 and 100. In complete darkness in automatic mode, the brightness in any case decreases to 49 cd / m2 (bright), in an office illuminated with artificial light (about 400 lx), the brightness is set to 53, 72 and 125 cd / m2 (darkish - darkish - just right), in a brightly lit environment (corresponds to a bright day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or slightly more) - rises to 330 cd / m² regardless of the position of the slider. This value is equal to the maximum with manual adjustment. In general, the result of the automatic brightness control function is as expected. There is no significant modulation at any brightness level. The figure below shows the dependence of brightness (vertical axis) on time (horizontal axis) for several values of brightness adjustment:

It can be seen that the modulation amplitude is minimal (its frequency is 58 Hz, which is equal to the screen refresh rate), as a result, there is no visible flicker. However, we note a high level of minimum brightness, noticeable unevenness of the color tone of the white field at the minimum brightness, and visible unevenness of the color tone at the level of individual pixels in the case of dark gray shades. Perhaps, without modulation, it is not possible to obtain a sufficiently wide dynamic range of brightness. But the screen does not flicker.

This screen uses a P-OLED matrix, an active matrix organic light-emitting diode (OLED). A full color image is created using subpixels of three colors - red (R), green (G) and blue (B), but there are half the green and red subpixels, which can be referred to as RGBB. This is confirmed by a fragment of a micrograph:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

In the fragment above, you can count 4 blue subpixels, 2 red (4 halves) and 2 green (1 whole and 4 quarters), while repeating these fragments, you can lay out the entire screen without gaps and overlaps. Most likely, the manufacturer calculates the screen resolution by blue subpixels, by the other two it will be two times lower (we will check this later).

Updated. Consider a photomicrograph of a screen with a superimposed scale:

The distance between strokes 4 and 5 is 1 mm. This gap fits approximately 8 green (or red) subpixel spacing and approximately 15.5 blue subpixel spacing. In the first case, we get approximately 203 dpi (8 * 25.4), in the second 394 dpi (15.5 * 25.4). That is, the "401 ppi" specified in the specifications refers only to the blue subpixel resolution.

The screen is characterized by excellent viewing angles, although the white color, even at small angles, acquires a slight blue-green tint, but the black color is just black at any angle (if nothing is reflected in the screen). It is so black that the contrast setting is not applicable in this case. When viewed from a perpendicular view, the white field uniformity is excellent (at least at high and medium brightness). For comparison, here are the photos on which the screens of the LG G Flex 2 (profile Standard) and the second comparison participant, identical images were displayed, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m2, and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K. White field:

Note the excellent uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field. And the test picture (profile Standard):

Color reproduction is good, however, the color balance of the screens is slightly different and the colors of the LG G Flex 2 are clearly more saturated. The photo above was taken after selecting a profile Standard in the screen settings, there are three of them.

What happens when you select the two remaining profiles is shown below.

Bright:

Saturation and color contrast are noticeably increased.

Natural:

Saturation is lower in places (bananas), in places higher (tomatoes) than in the case of the profile Standard, the color contrast is still a bit overestimated. Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen (profile Standard). White box:

The brightness at an angle on both screens has noticeably decreased (to avoid severe darkening, the shutter speed is increased compared to previous photos), but in the case of the LG G Flex 2, the drop in brightness is much less pronounced. As a result, with formally the same brightness (measured strictly perpendicular to the plane of the screen), the LG G Flex 2 screen visually looks much brighter (in comparison with LCD screens), since you often have to look at the screen of a mobile device at least from a slight angle. And the test picture:

It can be seen that the colors have not changed much on both screens and the brightness and contrast of the LG G Flex 2 are noticeably higher at an angle. The switching of the state of the matrix elements is carried out almost instantly, but a small step with a width of about 17 ms (which corresponds to a screen refresh rate of 58 Hz) can be present on the switching front. For example, this is how the dependence of brightness on time looks like when switching from black to white and vice versa (blue graph - with adaptive adjustment off, red - with on):

In some conditions, the presence of such a step can lead to trails trailing behind moving objects, but in this case we did not see them, apparently, the step always remains so not pronounced. Note that in any case, dynamic scenes in films on OLED screens are distinguished by high definition and even some "jerky" movements.

For all three profiles, the gamma curve plotted using 32 points with equal intervals in terms of the numerical value of the shade of gray revealed a small blockage in the shadows - the first point of gray (shade 255, 255, 255) is indistinguishable from black in brightness. However, in highlights, all shades are different with a given pitch. Depending on the profile, the indicator of the approximating power function is from 2.08 to 2.24, which is close to the standard value of 2.2, while only for the profile Bright the real gamma curve significantly deviates from the power-law dependence (in the captions in parentheses, the exponent of the approximating power-law function and the coefficient of determination are given):

Recall that in the case of OLED screens, the brightness of image fragments dynamically changes in accordance with the nature of the displayed image - it decreases for generally light images. As a result, the obtained dependence of brightness on the hue (gamma curve), most likely, does not correspond a little to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential output of shades of gray on almost the entire screen. This dynamic picture is enhanced when the option is selected. Automatically adjust brightness... In this case, on the graph of the dependence of brightness (vertical axis) on time (horizontal axis), when switching from black to white and back almost immediately after switching to white, a falling section appears, that is, the brightness of the white field begins to decrease, and then stabilizes at a certain level ( see graph above).

Color gamut in case of profile Bright very wide:

When choosing a profile Standard the coverage slightly decreases, but for some reason only in the red and yellow areas:

When choosing a profile Natural the coverage is compressed even more, almost to the sRGB borders:

Without correction, the spectra of the components are very well separated:

In case of a profile Natural with maximum correction, the color components are already noticeably mixed with each other:

Note that normal sRGB-optimized images appear unnaturally saturated on screens with wide color gamut without proper color correction. In this case, there is no correction to the sRGB borders in any of the profiles, which is further aggravated by a significant increase in color contrast.

The grayscale balance is imperfect, but generally acceptable. The color temperature is above 6500 K, but still, this parameter does not change very much in a significant section of the gray scale. The deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) for most of the gray scale remains below 10 units, which is considered a good indicator for a consumer device, but changes quite noticeably:

(In most cases, the darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there does not really matter, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

Let's summarize. The screen has a fairly high maximum brightness and has very good anti-reflective properties, so the device, most likely, can be used outdoors without any problems, even on a sunny summer day. Unfortunately, when using the device in complete darkness, even the minimum brightness is slightly higher than the comfortable level. The mode with automatic brightness adjustment works more or less adequately, but it also does not reduce the brightness in the dark to an acceptable value. The advantages of the screen include a very good oleophobic coating, as well as an acceptable color balance. At the same time, let's recall the general advantages of OLED screens: true black color (if nothing is reflected in the screen), excellent uniformity of the white field, noticeably less than that of LCDs, a drop in image brightness when viewed from an angle. The disadvantages include increased color gamut and increased color contrast. However, the overall quality of the screen is good.

Sound

In sound terms, the LG G Flex 2 is no different from the LG G3: there is only one main speaker in the smartphone, it sounds quite clean and relatively loud, but without a noticeable presence low frequencies, and the maximum volume level is not prohibitive. The sound in the headphones is also decent, but nothing more - the smartphone is far from the real market leaders in terms of sound, such as NTS or Oppo solutions. This is not a musical decision. In the conversational dynamics, the voice of a familiar interlocutor, timbre and intonation remain recognizable, no distortions are noticed. In the settings of the standard audio player, it is possible to influence the sound quality using the preset equalizer values. There is no radio in the device, but the smartphone can record telephone conversations from the line: it is enough to press the corresponding button during the call, and the sound will be recorded from the side of both interlocutors. In the future, you can listen to the recordings of your telephone conversations from the my_sounds folder in the smartphone's memory.

Camera

The front camera in the LG G Flex 2 is equipped with only a 2-megapixel module with an aperture of f / 2.1, it takes pictures in 1920 × 1080, with the same resolution it also shoots video (1080p). Accordingly, the quality of taking selfies is not bad, but modern top-level Chinese smartphones are already often equipped with 5-megapixel modules with a much more advanced shooting quality. However, there are also traditional and popular in Asia means for decorating their own self-portraits. For this there is a slider, by moving which, you can make yourself a "porcelain" skin. There is a possibility of obtaining a double shot - shooting is carried out simultaneously with both cameras. As in the case of the LG G3, a strange feature of the front camera was noticed: with all standard settings, the image gives off a greenish tint, and nothing can be done about it. You can use gestures and voice commands so you don't need to touch the screen. In addition, the shutter can be released with a button on the rear panel.

The main 13MP camera is physically equipped with the same module as the LG G3. The software, perhaps, was even more optimized, but in the case of the LG G3, the camera shot excellently, here this is also in full order. In addition to Advanced Optical Image Stabilization (OIS +), the camera also features laser focusing. As with the LG G3, this technology is used here to measure the distance between the camera and the subject with a laser beam. The settings menu is very simple and concise: there are only two stripes with icons, which are drawn very small and not very well distinguishable in the bright sun.

The camera can shoot video in maximum 4K resolution, as well as shoot videos at 120 fps in 720p resolution. Examples of test videos are presented below.

The sharpness is generally good. In the center you can see the noises entangled in the branches.

The camera works well with shadows.

To the distant shots, the sharpness drops slightly.

The color of the sky is fairly even.

Good sharpness in the distant shots. The shadows are worked out well, although the noise on the asphalt is very smeared.

The numbers of the nearest cars, if desired, can be disassembled, although they are strongly overexposed.

The branches are a little soapy, but overall the sharpness is good.

There is no sharpening on the wires, but the noise reduction artifacts are visible.

In HDR mode, the clarity is slightly improved, but there have been better examples.

The dynamic range does not expand very much.

Auto mode HDR mode

We also tested the camera on a laboratory bench using our method.

Before us is another "flagship", but unremarkable camera. However, that is why we will not call it flagship.

At first glance, everything is fine, but upon closer examination, a fly in the ointment is still found, and quite large. Despite the good optics, the details in the images are washed out in places, and in the tight branches of trees you can see either chromatic aberrations or confused noises. The camera does not work very accurately with noise, although it is generally acceptable. The dynamic range of the camera is narrow even in HDR mode, and it does not always select the exposure well. But this is all nit-picking, and the real problems start when the lighting deteriorates. If you look at the shadows, you will notice that the noise reduction eats up a lot of detail. In poor lighting conditions, details are lost even more. The reason is, perhaps, a weak sensor, which sometimes does not cope even where the cameras of ordinary smartphones are quite capable of working out acceptable. So, in room lighting, the camera can not even really work out the text.

In terms of resolution in the center of the frame, the camera is slightly inferior even to last year's flagships, although on average everything is not so bad. But the dependence of the resolution at the edge of the frame is very unpleasant. In addition to the low average value, the operation of the flash is also upsetting. And she's not that weak, it's just that the camera does not know how to control it. Many shots of the stand with flash turned out to be overexposed. The graph shows the values of pictures with a more or less even exposure. In this case, the edge of the frame still remains "inoperative".

In this form, the camera is suitable for documentary and, possibly, even artistic shooting, but only in good lighting conditions.

Telephone part and communications

The most powerful hardware platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, on which the LG G Flex 2 is based, boasts all the most advanced network and communication capabilities: here and support for 4G LTE Advanced TD-LTE / FDD-LTE Cat6 (up to 300 Mbps) with integrated aggregation technology LTE channels 3 × 20 MHz, and dual-band dual-stream Qualcomm VIVE 2-stream Wi-Fi 802.11n / ac with MU-MIMO, and Bluetooth 4.1, which supports all possible profiles. There is also NFC support. As a standard, you can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. All international standards are supported, including LTE FDD, LTE TDD, WCDMA (DC-HSPA +, DC-HSUPA), CDMA1x, EV-DO Rev. B, TD-SCDMA and GSM / EDGE. With the SIM-card of the domestic operator MTS, the smartphone is confidently registered and works in LTE networks.

The navigation module works not only with GPS (with A-GPS), but also with the domestic Glonass (the Chinese system Beidou (BDS) is not supported in this case). There are no complaints about the operation of the navigation module, the first GPS and Glonass satellites are detected literally in a matter of seconds. Among the sensors of the smartphone there is a magnetic field sensor (Hall sensor), on the basis of which the much-needed digital compass works in navigation programs.

The phone application supports Smart Dial, that is, when a phone number is dialed, a search is immediately carried out by the first letters in contacts, there is also support for continuous input of the Swype type. For those who find it inconvenient to work with such a large screen, there is an opportunity to reduce the virtual keyboard in size. By the way, within the framework of the proprietary QSlide technology, any of the standard applications, be it a video player or a file manager, can be reduced in size and moved closer to the edge of the screen.

OS and software

The device uses the latest version of the Google Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software platform as a system. Accordingly, a convenient function for displaying alerts in the form of pop-up interactive tiles has also appeared here. A proprietary Optimus UI shell is installed on top of the system. Its interface looks and functions exactly the same as in LG G3. Design of all elements user interface minimalistic, drawing icons flat, no shadows.

It is possible to work in a two-window mode, reduce in size and move windows with applications in QSlide mode on the working screen, the infrared port is supplemented with a special program for remote control of household appliances. The proprietary Knock Code blocking modes and the guest mode have not disappeared anywhere. Using the Kill Switch function, you can remotely lock your smartphone in the event of theft. Performance

The LG G Flex 2 hardware platform is built on the latest and most powerful of Qualcomm's SoC family, the Snapdragon 810. This 64-bit 20nm platform was officially unveiled early this year at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. simultaneously with LG G Flex 2, and it was on the example of this smartphone that the new platform was demonstrated at presentations by representatives of Qualcomm itself.

The new generation of 64-bit processors for flagship devices is designed to deliver increased performance, energy efficiency, multimedia and connectivity.

The new SoC includes four powerful 64-bit ARM Cortex-A57 cores, which are complemented by four simpler 64-bit Cortex-A53 cores, providing high power efficiency or performance depending on specific tasks. The powerful modern video accelerator Adreno 430 is responsible for processing graphics in the SoC. The volume of the smartphone's RAM is, contrary to expectations, only 2 GB, in this matter, many modern flagships with 3 GB of RAM are ahead of the hero of the review. For the needs of the user, about 23 GB of flash memory out of 32 nominal are available in the device (there is also a version of the smartphone with 16 GB). The memory can be expanded by installing microSD cards, the volume of which can reach 2 TB, which does not sound quite familiar, and even such cards will not be found on sale for a long time. The device also supports connecting external flash drives, keyboards and mice to the Micro-USB port in OTG mode. That is, the owner of the new smartphone LG G Flex 2 should certainly not feel the lack of memory.

According to the results of testing in complex tests, the owner of the latest Qualcomm platform did not prove to be the undisputed leader - the SoC of the Samsung Exynos family (7420 and 5430) installed in the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and Meizu MX4 smartphones turned out to be more productive, and the previous Samsung model Galaxy Note 4 was also able to defend its position on the top step of the pedestal.

Thus, all three top smartphones on the platforms of the Samsung Exynos family turned out to be higher in the results than the hero of the review. But this only applies to complex tests, and in tests where the graphics subsystem is involved, the Snapdragon 810 with its Adreno 430 GPU is unmatched. In graphic benchmarks, as well as in all browser tests, the novelty on the top Qualcomm platform confidently outstripped all opponents with Android OS, including the new record holder Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, and came close to Apple A8 (iPhone 6 Plus).

In any case, the LG G Flex 2 smartphone is one of the most powerful and productive smartphones of our time. He can easily cope with any tasks assigned to him, including the most demanding games - in this matter, the GPU Adreno 430 has no equal (in smartphones). The hardware capabilities of the LG G Flex 2 will be relevant for a long time, the power reserve is huge, especially considering that the platform on which the device is based is completely new and its time is just approaching.

Testing with the latest AnTuTu and GeekBench 3 Benchmarks:

All the results obtained by us when testing the smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks, we have summarized for convenience in tables. Several other devices from various segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain "behind the scenes" - due to the fact that they once passed the "obstacle course" on previous versions of test programs.

Testing the graphics subsystem in 3DMark gaming tests,GFXBenchmark, and Bonsai Benchmark:

When testing in 3DMark for the most productive smartphones, it is now possible to run the application in Unlimited mode, where the rendering resolution is fixed at 720p and VSync is disabled (which can cause the speed to rise above 60 fps). As for the GFXBenchmark, the table below the Offscreen tests are rendering images at 1080p regardless of the actual screen resolution. And tests without Offscreen are rendering images exactly for the screen resolution of the device. That is, the Offscreen tests are indicative from the point of view of the abstract performance of the SoC, and real tests - from the point of view of the comfort of the game on a specific device.

Browser cross-platform tests:

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them significantly depend on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can be truly correct only on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.

Video playback

To test the "omnivorous" video playback (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats that make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is often impossible to process modern options at the expense of processor cores alone. Also, do not expect a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are tabulated.

LG once again pleases with full support for codecs in mobile products: LG G Flex 2 is equipped with all the decoders that are necessary for full playback of most of the most common multimedia files on the network. To play them successfully, you can get by with the capabilities of a standard video player, and any third-party player, for example MX Player, will also play all formats, including the AC3 audio format.

Testing of video output features was carried out Alexey Kudryavtsev.

This smartphone has support for SlimPort (or Mobility DisplayPort) adapters that connect to the Micro-USB connector and provide video (and sound) transmission to external display devices. To test it, we used a monitor ViewSonic VX2363Smhl... When using this monitor and our existing SlimPort adapter, the output was carried out at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 fps. With the landscape orientation of the smartphone, the display of the image on the screens of the smartphone and the monitor is carried out, if possible, in landscape orientation, while the image on the monitor is inscribed in the boundaries of the screen and represents exact copy smartphone screen.

When the smartphone is in portrait orientation, the image is displayed on the monitor screen in portrait orientation, while the image on the monitor is inscribed in height, and wide black fields are displayed on the left and right of the monitor screen. HDMI audio is output and is of good quality. At the same time, multimedia sounds are not output through the loudspeaker of the smartphone itself, and the volume is controlled by buttons on the smartphone body. The smartphone connected to the SlimPort adapter is being charged, and the adapter must be connected to a power source via its micro-USB connector.

The video output deserves a special description. To begin with, using a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Testing methods for video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"), we checked how the video is displayed on the screen of the smartphone itself. Screenshots with an exposure of 1 s helped to determine the nature of the frame output of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p), 1920 by 1080 (1080p) and 3840 by 2160 (4K) pixels) and the frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps). In this test, we used the MX Player video player in Hardware mode. The results of this (block entitled "Smartphone Screen") and the following test are tabulated:

File Uniformity Skips

720 / 60p OK few
720 / 50p OK few

720 / 60p OK few
720 / 50p OK few
720 / 30p OK No
720 / 25p OK No
720 / 24p OK No

Note: If both columns Uniformity and Skips green ratings are set, this means that, most likely, when watching movies, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and skipping of frames will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect the viewing comfort. Red marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the respective files.

According to the criterion for outputting frames, the quality of video playback on the screen of the smartphone itself is good, since frames (or groups of frames) can (but are not required) to be displayed with a more or less uniform alternation of intervals and without frame drops. Except for files with 50 and 60 fps, in which case a couple of frames are dropped due to non-standard refresh rate (58 Hz). When playing video files with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 (1080p) on a smartphone screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly along the edge of the screen, one to one pixel by pixel, that is, in the original resolution, but for some reason the picture is cropped from above by a couple of pixels. On the test worlds, the peculiarities of the alternation and the number of subpixels appear - the vertical and horizontal world looks through the pixel into a grid. The brightness range displayed on the screen is close to the standard range of 16-235 - in the shadows several shades do not differ in brightness from black, but all the shades are displayed in the highlights. In general, you need to think carefully to use the screen of this device for watching a movie - the colors are too saturated, blockage in the shadows, jerky movements.

With a monitor connected via SlimPort, during video playback with a standard player, the video file image is displayed only in landscape orientation, while only the video file image is displayed on the monitor (the translucent navigation bar is removed after a few seconds), and only information elements and virtual controls are displayed on the smartphone screen:

When playing video files with a resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) on the monitor screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly on the edge of the screen, maintaining the true proportions, and the resolution corresponds to the Full HD resolution. The brightness range displayed on the monitor is equal to the standard range of 16-235, that is, in the shadows and highlights, all gradations of shades are displayed. The results of the monitor output tests are shown in the table above in the "SlimPort (monitor output)" block. The output quality is no better than on the screen of the smartphone itself.

It turns out that the connection to external monitors, TVs and projectors, carried out using the SlimPort adapter, can be used for games, watching movies (including in Full HD resolution), displaying web pages and other activities that benefit from multiple size increases. screen.

Battery life

LG G Flex 2 received a 3000 mAh battery, quite worthy for a modern flagship, but the device is equipped not only with a large high-resolution display, but also with a very powerful and demanding hardware platform - the most energy-intensive elements of any smartphone. In addition, the platform is still completely new and, perhaps, not fully optimized, since it still demonstrates completely non-standard results in our standard tests. So, the reading time in FB Reader and the playing time of videos through Wi-Fi network unexpectedly it turned out to be almost the same - we double-checked it several times. This is not typical: usually, all mobile devices stay in reading mode much longer than when watching a video. Testing in game mode also ended unusually: in the presence of the most powerful video subsystem and the hardware platform as a whole, the smartphone, in spite of everything, demonstrated a record long battery life. Probably, with the release of more optimized software and new firmware, something will change, but so far the situation is like this. As for the heating of the case, it takes place, especially during games, and once the test benchmark even refused to work due to overheating.

As a result, according to the test results, the subject demonstrated a very tolerable, but far from a record level of autonomy. A highly economical novelty cannot be called for sure, but the battery charge should be enough for one daylight hours. Testing, as usual, was carried out in the maximum productive mode of operation without any restrictions, although the settings also have the ability to enable the power-saving mode.

Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (the brightness was set to 100 cd / m2) lasted only about 11 hours until the battery was completely discharged, and with continuous video viewing in high quality (720p), the same brightness level through home network The Wi-Fi device lasted about 10 hours. In 3D games mode, the smartphone showed just a record result, lasting as much as 5.5 hours. At the same time, the capacious battery is charged very quickly, the full charge time is only about 1.5 hours, and 50% of the total volume is charged in 40 minutes. The device supports the proprietary technology Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, but for fast charging you need to use the included charger.

Outcome

In conclusion, it can be noted that the LG G Flex 2 is, in terms of its main characteristics, a truly top-end flagship smartphone with maximum performance, a high-quality large screen, an excellent camera and the most advanced networking capabilities to date, powered by Qualcomm technologies, which are implemented in the latest SoC from this developer. The sound and autonomy are at the usual level, in this regard, the smartphone did not turn out to be outstanding (not counting the longevity in games). But, of course, it is not these characteristics that make the hero of the review unique. First of all, it should be noted its curved shape - there is simply no alternative to the new LG smartphone. The only competitor can be called the Samsung Galaxy Round smartphone, but it is curved in a different plane and is poorly represented in retail. However, we will discuss this issue later, when an update will be released for the Samsung series. Among the other features of the LG G Flex 2, it is necessary to highlight the fact that it is the discoverer of the newest and most powerful of all Qualcomm SoCs, which means that it has gazes riveted on it. From an extraordinary exhibit piece to showcase the latest technologies, which for the most part was the first product of the series, G Flex smartphones by the second generation turned into completely serial products, suitable and even recommended for daily use. The price of the new product, of course, bites, but the smartphone has not yet been announced for the Russian market, and whether it will be officially sold here at all is still unknown, so it's too early to talk about the price.

Last year around this time, an unusual smartphone LG G Flex was presented with a curved body and the same curved OLED screen. So it's not in vain that we return to this topic, because LG is likely to show the updated smartphone LG G Flex 2. This is confirmed by several leaks, which we will talk about and, in the end, we will definitely already know the characteristics of the device, the approximate release date and price.

There are already quite a few rumors that LG will continue to work on the G Flex line, and @evleaks also confirms this: "The LG G Flex 2 will arrive in Q1 2015 and will have more unique features than self-healing plastic."

If you are interested in this news, then soon you yourself will see new smartphones with curved screens. Yes, smartphones, as the race is still going on between LG and Samsung. Note that Samsung is also working on a curved phone, and this has nothing to do with the Galaxy Note Edge.

LG G Flex 2 Release Date:

Judging by the information that leaked to the network thanks to evleaks, LG will present the G Flex 2 in the near future at the beginning of 2015, and with several other smartphones at once. So we are waiting for some high-profile announcements.

Specifications LG G Flex 2:

As we have said more than once, the LG G Flex 2 will also be a smartphone with a curved screen, but we are already talking about a 90-degree angle. Such data even baffles us, since it is difficult to imagine a screen curved at right angles. It will be an OLED display with 720p resolution and 245ppi pixel density. The diagonal of such a screen can be 6 inches, which is why the design may surprise you.

Other features of the LG G Flex 2 are already related to the hardware specs: a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with a frequency of 2.26GHz and 32GB of internal memory, which will be enough to install any applications.

Speaking of the camera, the LG G Flex 2 will have a 13MP main camera, but not a word has been said about the front camera, and it may not even be. There is no specific information on this.

Most surprisingly, the smartphone will also receive a curved 3500 mAh lithium polymer battery.

Now we need to say about those characteristics that are obtained from another source, and this time we are talking about completely new specifications. Again, Evleaks suggests LG will install a Qualcomm MSM8994 processor and this will be the first Android Silver smartphone. This is a Snapdragon 810 processor and it is already 64-bit, so we will definitely not see it before the first quarter. But the screen is already positive data - LG will modify it to Full HD resolution at least. The smartphone will still support 4G LTE.

Price LG G Flex 2:

It is unlikely that even a preliminary cost of this smartphone will appear in the near future, but if we talk about its predecessor, then the price may be authentic. On the other hand, due to the difficulties in production (design, curved screen), the price will be very high.

The focal length indicates the distance in millimeters from the sensor to the optical center of the lens. Equivalent focal length (35mm) is the focal length of a mobile device camera, equated to the focal length of a 35mm full-frame sensor, at which the same angle of view will be achieved. It is calculated by multiplying the real focal length of the mobile device camera by the crop factor of its sensor. The crop factor can be defined as the ratio between the diagonals of a 35mm full-size sensor and a mobile device sensor.

Really the best! There are almost no bugs, despite the dullness of the phone (surprisingly, it is not officially supplied to Russia). The speed and smoothness of the work is impressive. In terms of speed, it is only outstripped by the novelties of this year from leading brands. in Antutu he is gaining 56,000 parrots, and some time ago he highlighted this as the best result at that time! There are almost no preinstalled non-removable programs in it. The battery lasts 1.5 days. In memory - a carriage. The operative is doing fine, although it is not enough of it. The display is juicy. The shell is gorgeous, almost everything is customizable - very convenient! And most importantly, the design! The gnusmus have rounded corners, everything is rounded here :) After a week you get used to it and you are no longer able to look at other phones! Really attracts attention.

The appearance is very beautiful! It fits comfortably in the hand, bright screen, android 5.1 out of the box, memory card, everything flies.

    1. Appearance - Against the background of identical smartphones, which differ only in back covers and brand names, this one looks very fresh 2. Screen a. OLED is significantly ahead of LCD in picture quality, especially when it is dark in the dynamics of video, games, etc. - although OLED from SAMSUNG is better than b. Curvature creates the effect of volume, and it is noticeable - (games, videos) 3. Performance a. the smartphone is very smart, everything flies b. in synthetic tests it proved to be one of the best on the market (in some tasks only Exynos 7420 is inferior) 4. Compact - this is the most compact of smartphones with a diagonal of 5.5 6. Convenient a. The buttons on the back are very convenient b. Tapping to lock / unlock 7. Camera a. Very fast focusing (laser) b. Response to gestures and words to take pictures (convenient) 8. LG's interface is comfortable enough

Wow effect. Most people around you pay attention. + Doesn't slow down at all. For 3 weeks of use, it did not slow down either in programs, or when switching in networks, etc. + The camera is great if you need to shoot on the machine and not bother with the settings. Speed of inclusion, focusing and shooting at the level of iPhone 6. + Ergonomic body. There is no feeling of a huge apparatus. Fits in all pockets without problems. + Slot for memory card + Keys on the back. Instantly accustomed. Very convenient to use. Turning on and off (!) The device with a double tap on the screen + Fast charging. I didn't know it was so convenient. + Infrared port. I didn't have it on old devices. It turned out that you can use it quite often. With all modern TVs, it works with a stock program without additional settings. + Loudness

An excellent screen, it fits perfectly in the hand, I compared it with the G3 and eventually took this one. The curved shape is just super, it is very convenient to speak, climb the Internet. Red looks very impressive. I don't know why everyone is talking about heating, everything is pretty good.

The appearance, the unusual format of the case, the fit of the parts is perfect, you can feel some kind of quality factor, or the control keys with a clear stroke and click, their location on back cover, oleophobic coating, anti-glare, decent matrix, ergonomics at a height, firmware 5.1.1, weighty (plus for me), the hardware is very powerful, and the processor itself is not so powerful (there is more productive on the market), but the Adreno 430 video chip is just 1 in the world Probably, according to past experience, there was Optimus G where I bought Adreno 320 as a novelty, and to this day it pulled almost everything that I put for a total of 3 years, not a little by today's standards. From a cold start 54000 in anttuu. I will not say anything about the battery, I have not yet shaken it, I think it is average, it charges quickly enough from the complete charging. PRICE! for 21 thousand, somehow I did not even believe that his

PRICE!! For 20 thousand, you will not find such characteristics even in China, but here is a well-known brand with good support. + Unusual design, curved shape, self-healing lid. Small scratches heal, large ones heal a little. More marketing, but small things are nice. + Gorgeous camera with laser autofocus and optical stabilization + Snapdragon 810 + Support for microsd cards + Support for LTE advanced up to 300 Mbps in theory. + Screen. If you've seen screens from Samsung, you know what it is. Very bright, vivid colors, perfect black and energy saving - unlike IPS matrices the fact that OLED matrices do not illuminate the entire screen, but only the fragment that needs to be displayed. Those. when displaying black, the pixel in this place does not stupidly light up,

Everything works fine antutu gives out 50,000+ points, some games lag terribly, namely Subway Surfers, the rest did not check the battery for the whole day, but no more

The biggest advantage is the most adequate phone for your money. I bought in June 2015 for 21,000 - at that time, analogs for those. characteristics were much more expensive. - Nice screen, you get used to it very quickly - Nimble. I do not play games at all, but all working applications are pulling with a bang. - Not a bad camera - On MTS 4G it really catches almost everywhere, for me it was really important

A bright and juicy screen dims the brightness poorly. It is difficult to read on it at night. Although there is a solution in the form of special programs that apply a darkened mask to the screen.

The minimum brightness is very high, the battery lasts for half a day with heavy use, a poor camera.

    1. Screen
    a. P-OLED is inferior to analogs from samsung in uniformity of shades - this is noticeable in gray and magenta colors, small dots of subpixels are visible here. - it is imperceptible on white
    b. the minimum brightness is high, in the evening you want to turn off the backlight, but this is impossible
    v. when heated, reduces the maximum backlight level - but this is noticeable only in the settings
    d. curvature is unusual at first when reading the text
when video or viewing photos, as well as in the browser and in most games and applications, these disadvantages are insignificant
    2. Camera
    - in the evening shooting, noisy, inferior in this to alternative flagships
    3. Throttling
    a. Significantly noticeable in synthetic tests, where the indicators are presented if the tests are run several times, for example, in AnTuTu when running a test

A controversial battery, but I can easily finish it until the evening. I just would like more
    - No root. But so far, and so I do not see a special need for it. Because even Facebook is not preinstalled.
    - I would like more light indicator about missed events. Even at night it is not striking.
    - Few camera settings. Looks like a marketing limitation. To at least worsen something)))

This phone does not have a radio and films with covers, only order with aliexpress.

The camera honestly did not impress me, BUT, provided there is good daylight, the photo can be obtained very, no not so, VERY good quality for a smart, Iphone 6, 6+, Galaxy S6 and Lg G4 are much stronger in terms of the camera. High level the backlight of the screen, with the slider turned to a minimum, it is not comfortable to read something at night, it is too bright. Well, the gloss and something like that is not solid.

    Controversial points:
+ - There were complaints about the battery in the reviews - the battery is not the best on the market, but it is comparable to other flagships, some even surpasses. Now all modern smartphones do not live more than a day, so I don't consider this a disadvantage.
+ - No custom firmwares. This item is only for those who know what it is.
The stock firmware works perfectly, I haven't found a single bug yet.
+ - Lack of official sales. All phones sold in Russia are gray, eurotest. That is, there is no official guarantee from official service centers for these devices.
But the shops-sellers still provide their own warranty for a year, so I don't consider this a disadvantage.
Plus, most of the calls to the centers are broken phones, which is not a warranty case, therefore,

the body itself is scratched strongly, otherwise only my nit-picking

A very inconvenient proprietary firmware from LG itself. Intuitively incomprehensible, periodically blunts and closes applications. After last update Skype and gmail stopped working in the background, but for me this is extremely important, but as I understand this is an android problem.
In general, after miui, I'm very uncomfortable (

The curved shape of the phone gives the LG G FLEX2 a sleek and attractive look. The smartphone is the second model of LG FLEX, although the first variant did not generate much desire to buy it. The company took into account all the mistakes of the previous version and embodied the wishes of consumers in the new model.

LG G FLEX2 Phone - Reviews

The LG G FLEX2 features a curved screen that gives the phone a touch of originality. It is bent at an angle of 23 degrees, the model is not a direct competitor to the iPhone, of course, but the unusual shape will interest sophisticated, technological innovations of consumers.

In terms of technical specifications, the curved screen makes the smartphone more comfortable than its straight-screen counterparts. The microphone is positioned closer to the mouth, which makes the voice louder and clearer for the interlocutors.

This model will not be a mass item of everyday use, but the phone will arouse the interest of many potential buyers with its individuality. The curved display, at the very least, allows for easier sensor control.

Another feature of the curved screen is the panoramic video viewing process. At this moment, the feeling of truly complete immersion and personal presence on the shooting site is created.

LG G FLEX2 is not as simple as it seems

The smartphone underwent lengthy tests, during which it came into contact with various surfaces and shook in a bag with things. Such actions are familiar to many people, and therefore a modern phone must withstand such loads, while not getting damaged. The phone's screen has a special Gorilla Glass coating, which makes it 20% more durable and more reliable than any other device. The back panel features innovative self-healing scratch-resistant coating technologies.

After two weeks of use, the phone is in perfect condition, like new. There are no scratches on either the front or back. An entertaining feature - the curved shape allows the phone to fit more conveniently in your pocket than flat counterparts.

But the phone can still be damaged. There is a risk of deeper scratching with the keys, which the self-healing panel will not be able to help. Moreover, some of these scratches can "get complicated", the coating on the sides of the damaged area begins to flake off. With this model, despite all the positive qualities of the coating, you should be as careful as with any other phone.

Stunning camera

The phone is equipped with a high-quality 13-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and laser sensor with autofocus. The picture looks rich and clear, which favorably distinguishes the model from its predecessors.

Nice, but with lags

Sometimes there are pauses when opening applications, which determines not the best performance of the phone. The model is equipped with a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810 processor and 2GB of RAM. The company is aware of the phone's performance issues, so it promised to fix them in updates.

One of the main issues of the technical part of the phone was its heating during operation, because the Snapdragon 810 processor caused a lot of criticism in some publications. The result of prolonged work with many applications was the heating of the phone, but within the normal range, fears of failure due to temperature did not materialize.

Functional battery

This, perhaps, is the subject of criticism on most modern phones. The devices have an annoying tendency to turn off at the most inopportune moment. But LG G FLEX2 can be used without recharging for 24 hours, and this is not an approximate figure, but a fact proven in practice.

Even when several applications are running, listening to music and running several games, this time value remains unchanged, in contrast to the declared operating time for most modern models (the company likes to embellish the capabilities of its products, which are not confirmed in practice).

Outcome

LG G FLEX2 is a striking representative of the series, the curved screen makes it thinner and more convenient than analogs... It is not only more pleasant to hold, the smartphone is more comfortable in your pocket and does not take up a lot of space.

The protective front cover and back panel are not scratched in the first 5 minutes after purchase, like other phones. But despite all the advantages, developers need to carefully work on the software, then the full potential will be revealed. this device.

pros

  • Original curved shape.
  • High strength indicators.
  • High quality wide angle camera.
