Cycle battery cedar auto 4a instruction. How to use the Cedar charger? Preparation for work and work procedure

Comments (17):

if you put a zener diode at 8.5V, will it be okay? will it not affect the operation and characteristics of the device in any way?

# 2 root June 14 2017

Victor, here are the parameters of the KS175Zh, which is installed in the circuit:

  • The minimum stabilization voltage is 7.1 V;
  • Nominal stabilization voltage - 7.5 V;
  • The maximum stabilization voltage is 7.9 V;
  • The stabilization current of the zener diode is 4 mA.

As you can see, the zener diode has a certain spread in the stabilization voltage: 7.1-7.9 V. It is used in the circuit to power logic chips series K176.
Most likely, replacing the KS175Zh with a zener diode with a voltage of 8.5V will not affect the operation of the charger in any way.

And why is the circuit like this, and the printed circuit board from another circuit?
I can't find a printed circuit board from the above diagram.

# 4 root January 19 2018

Vladimir, the printed circuit board (Fig. 10) was developed for the 1991 circuit (Fig. 7), and it differs slightly from the original factory board (Fig. 9). We have not yet come across a printed circuit board drawing for the circuit in Figure 3.

# 10 Alex January 08 2019

Got me in the repair KEDR AUTO 12V, I don’t know for a year. For all CEDARS I will not speak, only on the example of this instance. The printed circuit board and wiring diagram correspond to Fig. ten. Schematic diagram- fully corresponds to Fig. 7. Scheme Fig. 3 contains obvious errors, the connection of the DD4 - K176TM2 microcircuit is shown incorrectly. There, even for the DD4.2 part, the microcircuit legs are incorrectly numbered. In my copy, it was this microcircuit that failed, I had to sort it out. As shown in the diagram in Fig. 3, the node on the DD4 microcircuit cannot work correctly. It would be better to remove it .... the circuit in Fig. 3.

# 11 root January 09 2019

Alex, thanks for your comments. Errors corrected. We checked the numbering of the pins of all microcircuits in Figure 3 - for the DD4.2 element, 12 were swapped with 13 and 10 with 11.

All health! They gave me a 12v cedar in a faulty condition, the problem is in the power transformer. # 13 Pavel February 04 2019

Hello, What do R5 and R9 regulate? How can you limit the voltage to 14.8V?

# 14 Dmitry February 06 2019

Good day to all! One person has already asked about the KU 202g alternative. I'm not very good at radio and electrical equipment. One of the thyristors is out of order. In the store, when buying, "master sellers" assured that KU 202g and Ku 202zh were interchangeable (at that time, KU 202g were not on sale). Yes, of course, after installing KU 202zh, the device works, but does not work automatic shutdown when the battery is fully charged.
You have to constantly watch so that there is no recharge and the plates in the battery do not crumble.
Maybe there is still an alternative EXACTLY KU 202g?

# 15 root February 06 2019

Thyristors KU202G and KU202Zh are identical in characteristics with the exception of the parameter "Constant voltage in the closed state", where it is equal to 50V and 10V, respectively.

The circuit is low-voltage and this parameter may not be so critical here, perhaps some other details are out of order. It is necessary to check if all the transistors and diodes are in good working order, to study the operation of the device and check the microcircuits.

The board has a trimmer resistor R5 "End of charge" (diagram in Figure 7), it may have been twisted without understanding and the device is not configured to turn off the charge when a certain voltage level on the batteries is reached.

# 16 ALEX February 11 2019

Hello. For the memory, the cedar stopped working due to the breakage of diodes in the circuit of the control electrodes of the thyristors.
Replaced diodes and thyristors. Charging went only in a cyclic mode. When the automatic mode was turned on, the LED turned off, the ammeter showed a current of 2 A and turned off after a couple of seconds. Slightly moved R5, the charge went a little longer. The tester on a battery / 40A / showed the power of the charger on at 13.4 and off at 14.4. good, but there was no fixed shutdown. Zu turns on with the specified parameters and turns off until you disconnect it from the network. Please advise how it should be. Thank you in advance.

# 17 Alex March 14 2019

the charge occurs in a cyclic mode. those. the needle of the ammeter deviates by 1 A and then drops again to 0 A. and so on with a frequency of about 50-60 Hz.

Charger Kedr-Auto 4A: annotation. Car battery charger

In the arsenal of every car owner, there should be an auto charger for the battery. Operation of the vehicle without this device can be significantly complicated. An auto charger will be more useful for you when the battery has to be charged much more often. When the battery is fully discharged, you will have to "light up" the car, which is not necessarily comfortable, in some cases it may require additional expenses due to the appeal to 100. It is much easier to charge the battery at home. One of the most needed brands of car chargers is "Kedr" - devices of this brand are bought by many vehicle owners.

Model range of chargers: Kedr-M

Charging "Kedr-Auto" is intended for recharging car batteries. Such equipment is mainly used to restore the performance of batteries, which have lost it due to the reactions of sulfation and oxidation of electrodes. In addition, the service life can also be increased with the help of the Kedr-Auto Mini charger by means of training the charge-discharge cycle.

Device functions

  • Automatic termination of battery charging.
  • Repetitive charge-discharge mode, the action of which is aimed at restoring the capacity of the battery as a result of the sulfation reaction of the plates.
  • Protection system against small circuits and incorrectly connected clamps.
  • The provided recharge mode, which allows you to collect the full capacity of the battery.

Preparation for work

On the back of the charger there is a special compartment in which the cords with clips and a network cable are hidden.

The voltage of the Kedr-Auto 4A charger can harm human health or become a prerequisite for a fatal ending. The device must be turned off before restoration and repair work and changing the fuse. Installing self-made fuses and blocking the ventilation openings of the case is strictly prohibited. In addition, you cannot charge battery near heating devices.

Before work, the cords with terminals are removed from the rear compartment of the device. The 1st lever of the device is transferred to the charging mode, the 2nd - to the repetitive or continuous mode.

How to use Kedr-Auto 4A?

Continuous mode is used in this case if real battery charging is required.

The repetitive mode is used when forming or desulfating electrodes. In this mode, a 6-watt 12-volt light bulb is connected to the terminals.

Then the terminals are connected to the current leads observing the polarity.

The charger "Kedr" has a protection mode against incorrect connection and small circuits. In the annotation to the charger "Kedr-Auto 4A" it is indicated that its functioning can only be in this case, if a storage battery with the lowest voltage of 10 volts is connected to the terminals. When you try to return the charge of a 100% discharged battery, the device will turn on the protective mode.

Switching operating modes can be carried out without disconnecting the charger from the network. According to reviews on "Kedr-Auto", the current strength at the beginning of the charging process is 4 A with the following gradual decrease. The charger automatically turns off after full charging

battery

What is indicated by a special LED. Then you can put the charger into the recharge mode.

Charging the battery in a repetitive mode lasts 45 seconds, after which a special light turns on. This mode does not have an automatic shutdown, so it is better to keep the whole process under control.

The service life of the battery - the source of the vehicle's life - is 5 to 7 years. It all depends on the operating conditions. However, it is possible to increase the battery resource if it is periodically recharged and special trainings are carried out. For these purposes, the Kedr charger was developed - one of the best in the entire Russian automotive market.

The operation of any storage battery is based on anode-cathodic reactions that occur between lead cells and a sulfuric acid solution. As a result of the reduction of lead dioxide at the cathode, we get electricity... However, over time, the course of the reactions weakens. It is then that it is necessary to connect "rectifiers" that restore the original elements.

Series of chargers "Kedr"

The main purpose of the series of domestic devices "Kedr" is to charge the storage battery and restore its performance, lost due to the formation of lead sulfates and oxidation of electrodes. In addition, the "Kedr" charger can be used to "train" the battery in order to increase it specifications and extend the service life.

Externally, the devices of the series are a black plastic parallelepiped of a rather large mass. The control panel is located on the front side. The device has a cable for connecting to the AC mains, two clamps that are connected directly to the battery terminals. The device is configured for recharging in automatic mode.

The series of devices includes pre-starting devices that are used to start the engine of a car with a highly discharged battery ("Kedr-mini"). Also in the assortment there are universal units that perform both functions (charger "Kedr-auto-10").

Control Panel

Before starting the device, you must familiarize yourself with the rules of its operation. Neglecting it simple rule can cause electric shock or death.

The most important thing is to study the control panel of the device before connecting it to the battery. In the overwhelming majority of cases, it includes:

  1. Switch for control of automatic modes "Charge / Dose".
  2. Fuse holder, in other words - fuse slot.
  3. Toggle switch automatic modes Continuous / Cyclic.
  4. Ammeter and indicator of full battery charge in the form of LED.

There is a small compartment in the back wall of the device, which contains the cords needed to connect the "Cedar" charger to the mains and the battery.

Differences between devices and other chargers

The family of devices "Kedr" fell in love with domestic motorists for their ease of use.

The device recharges or restores the battery's performance thanks to the automatic functions built into its control board:

  1. Cyclic work - provides a partial restoration of the redox capabilities of the electrodes during the sulfation of elements.
  2. Recharging the battery - brings the constant charge to full capacity.
  3. Battery shutdown mode after fully charged.

Also, the device is equipped with automatic protection against short circuits as a result of accidental contact of the output clamps or incorrect connection of the battery. When triggered, the protection system simply stops supplying electric current, thereby protecting both the Cedar charger itself and the battery.

Before charging

Before you start charging, you need to make sure that your battery needs recharging and is working properly. To do this, you need to measure the voltage at the terminals. In winter, the maximum allowable discharge level is no more than 25% of the nominal value, and in summer, no more than 50%. If the voltmeter shows values below, then the battery needs charging.

Standard car batteries have a nominal voltage of 12 volts. Only in this case "Cedar" - a charger (instructions below) - can charge the battery. Also read the battery data sheet to make sure that this is the case. Remember that the voltage in the charger must be higher than the battery voltage to charge. Otherwise, nothing will work.

User manual

The instruction says that to charge the battery, you must do the following:

  1. Remove the cords from the cavity on the back wall, carefully stretch them on the floor, make sure that the clips do not touch.
  2. Connect the device to an alternating current source of 220 volts.
  3. Switch the toggle switches to the "Charge" and "Continuous" positions.
  4. Observing the polarity, connect the clamps to the battery terminals.

The battery will then start charging. As soon as the electric capacity is fully restored, the "Cedar" charger will notify about it with a red indicator "End of charge". After that, the battery is ready for operation.

Restoration of performance

A decrease in battery capacity occurs as a result of partial sulfation of the plates - the formation of sulfates on the electrodes. In this case, it is possible to increase the efficiency and increase the durability of the battery. This requires:

  1. Connect the device clamps to the terminals.
  2. Move the toggle switch to the "Cyclic" position.
  3. Connect a 12V or 6V bulb to the battery.

The restoration of operability occurs according to the following scheme: the charger "Kedr" for 45 seconds charges the battery, and then turns off, and the lamp comes into operation, which discharges the battery within 15 seconds. Such cyclic charging / discharging increases the battery life and performance.

The charger Kedr AUTO 4A is designed to charge and restore the performance of acidic lead 12-volt batteries, partially lost as a result of sulfation and oxidation of electrodes, as well as their training by carrying out charge-discharge cycles in order to increase the resource, service life and preservation.

The device Kedr AUTO 4A provides automatic shutdown at the end of the charge in the "AUTOMATIC" mode. The device is provided with a dial indicator (ammeter) and a light indicator, which: when the "AUTOMATIC" mode is switched on - does not light up; at the end of the charge in the "AUTOMATIC" mode - blinks; when the "CYCLE" mode is turned on, it glows evenly.

The KEDR-AUTO device provides an accelerated mode of charging a fully discharged (up to 10 V) battery with a compromise value of the initial current equal to 3 - 4 A. At the same time, after 1 - 2 hours (depending on the degree of battery discharge and voltage in the network), the value of the charging current decreases to a value of about 2 A and continues to decrease by the end of the charge to 1 A or less. This mode eliminates significant heating of the battery during charging and reduces the charging time of a fully discharged battery to 3 - 6 hours.

Before using the device, you must study the rules for the care and use of batteries.

Preparation for work and work procedure

Before using the device, you must study the rules for the care and use of batteries.
Open the cover at the back of the charger and remove the cords. Set the toggle switch for turning on the automation to the "CHARGE" position.
The "CONTINUOUS-CYCLIC" charge mode toggle switch allows you to select the battery charging modes.
If it is necessary to charge the battery, switch the charge mode toggle switch to the "CONTINUOUS" position.
If it is necessary to form or desulfate the plates, when the capacity of the storage battery decreases, switch the toggle switch for selecting the charge mode to "CYCLIC". Connect the load to the terminals of the storage battery (bulb 12V 6 W).
Connect, observing the polarity, the cord with the clamps to the battery.
Electronic protection of the Kedr-M device against short circuit and incorrect polarity connection is designed in such a way that the charging current appears at the output only if a voltage source (battery) with a voltage of at least 10V is connected to the output terminals.
The lamp connected to the terminals of the charger will not light up, since it is not a voltage source.

Work in battery charging mode.

Switching between operating modes of the device "CONTINUOUS-CYCLIC" and "CHARGE-FURTHER CHARGE" can be done while charging the battery without disconnecting it from the network.
Connect the plug of the 220 V power cord, and the process of charging the battery begins, as evidenced by the ammeter readings.
The charging current of a fully discharged battery at the beginning of the charge can amount to 4 A or more, further in the charging process the current will decrease.
When the battery charge is reached, the charger automatically turns off, as evidenced by the glowing of the LED "END OF CHARGE"
Switch the toggle switch for turning on the automatics in the "DOUBLE CHARGE" mode and continue charging the battery. The battery is considered fully charged if during the charging process the electrolyte density does not change for two hours.
In cyclic charging mode, after every 45 seconds of charging, the battery is discharged for 15 seconds through the load connected to the battery (light bulb).
In the "CYCLE" or "DOUBLE CHARGE" position, the automation is turned off.

Possible malfunctions and methods of their elimination

Despite the fact that the charger is simple and reliable in operation, in practice there are cases when consumers due to misuse cannot obtain the required charging current and mistakenly consider this to be a malfunction of the charger. These errors are summarized in the table.

Name of malfunctions, external manifestation and additional symptoms Probable cause Elimination method Note
1. When the charger is connected to the battery, there is no indication of the charging current 1. The fuse has blown. 2. Bad contact between the output terminals "+" and "-" and the AB terminals. 3. The polarity is reversed when connecting ZU-A to the conclusions of AB. 4. Output terminals "+" and "-" are closed together. 5. A short circuit in the battery or it is excessively discharged (the voltage on it is less than 4 V) 1. Replace the fuse. 2. Check the condition of the terminals. Strip them if necessary. 3. Check the correct connection of the AB device. 4. Open the clamps. 5*. Check device and battery. * In case of other malfunctions, the charger must be repaired.
2. When the charger is connected to the AB, the ammeter needle shows more than 5 A. 1. The battery is faulty (one bank is shorted). 2. The mains voltage is much higher than normal. 1. Disconnect the device, eliminate the battery or mains fault. * If the charger is in good working order, the malfunction must be looked for in the rechargeable battery
3. The charger has turned off, but the battery is significantly undercharged. 1. AB malfunction (plate sulfation, density out of specification, contamination, etc.) 1. Carry out a charge in the "Cyclic", "Recharge" mode. Check the charger with a known good battery.

To extend the life of the starter car battery requires regular maintenance. Maintaining a normal charge level is one of the must-haves. This is especially true for winter operation, because due to a large number powerful consumers and severe frosts, the standard car voltage relay is not able to fully charge the battery.

Curbing

Device overview

The charger is made in a small plastic case (185x130x90 mm). The low power of the device has led to its low weight.

The front panel contains:

  • Pointer ammeter to control the charge current;
  • LED indicator of the operating mode;
  • Switch of the "Cycle - Automatic" mode.

From the rear panel of the device there is a power cord and wires with terminals for connecting the battery.

Technical characteristics of the device Cedar Auto 4a

This charger provides a charge current of up to 4 A. This is quite enough to maintain the capacity of incompletely discharged batteries. Other technical characteristics:

WET batteries are standard liquid electrolyte lead acid batteries. Do not try to charge AGM, EFB or GEL batteries with this charger.

The memory kit includes instructions on the rules of use, which details the procedure for operation and possible malfunctions with the procedure for their elimination.

Features of the device and for which batteries it is suitable

The automatic charger is designed to charge lead-acid storage batteries with a capacity of 40 to 75 A / h.

Important! The larger the battery capacity, the longer it will take to charge. Moreover, many manufacturers recommend setting the charge current equal to 1/10 of its capacity. Thus, this device not recommended for regular charging powerful batteries with a high degree of discharge.

The device has built-in protection against incorrect switching on - polarity reversal. Output voltage and charge current are absent in such cases:

  • Incorrectly connected battery;
  • High degree of discharge (voltage at the battery terminals is less than 10 V);
  • Lack of battery.

Cedar Auto 4a has two operating modes - "automatic" and "cycle". Each of the operating modes uses its own charging algorithm.

The operation indicator light has the following modes:

  • Extinguished - "Automatic" mode;
  • Blinking - in the "Automatic" mode, the charge is over;
  • Continuous light - "Cycle" mode is on.

Machine

This mode is the main one and is designed to charge batteries without user intervention. The logic of operation is such that when a discharged battery is connected, the device begins to produce a maximum current, which decreases as the charging process proceeds. When the voltage at the battery terminals reaches 13.2 V, the charge is automatically terminated.

Important! The initial current depends on the degree of discharge of the battery, but does not exceed 4A in the most extreme case.

Cycle

The mode is intended for the recovery of batteries with signs of sulfation. In the cyclic mode, the charge alternates with a short-term low-current discharge, which contributes to the dissolution of large sulfate crystals in the active mass of the plates.

How to charge the battery using Cedar Auto 4a

The use of an automatic device simplifies the maintenance of batteries as much as possible and allows them to be performed regularly without a significant investment of time.

Procedure:

  • Connect the storage battery to the output terminals of the device;
  • Connect the device to the power supply;
  • Select the required operating mode by pressing the button on the front panel.

Important! In the case of desulfation (“Cycle” mode), parallel to the output terminals, it is necessary to connect a load - a 12 V 6 W car lamp, through which a training battery discharge will be performed.

Using a more powerful lamp will increase the discharge current, resulting in longer charging times. A light load, on the contrary, will not give the desired effect.

During the charging process, it is necessary to control the density of the electrolyte. The absence of an increase in density with an undercharged battery indicates that desulfation must be carried out.
