Additional modules

Sophos Antivirus

Sophos Antivirus is an add-on module that can be purchased with a new Kerio Control license or later.

Protecting all email passing through Kerio Connect:

  • Scanning of incoming, outgoing and forwarded mail messages, as well as their attachments.
  • Viruses found in attachments are removed, and an information note about this action is added to the message.
  • Attachment filtering capability.

Active Sync

Active Sync is an optional module that can be purchased with a new license or later. Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync® is a server-side technology that allows Kerio Connect to directly synchronize a mailbox with mobile devices that support Exchange ActiveSync

Software Maintenance (SWM)

An active subscription (Software Maintenance, SWM) gives the user the following benefits:

  • the possibility of free transition to new versions during the validity period of the SWM;
  • work of those modules for which it is necessary constant renewal bases (Sophos, Gray Listing, Active Sync).

The user will receive technical support only subject to valid SWM.

The initial purchase already includes SWM for 1 year (valid from the moment the server license is activated). With the initial purchase of Kerio Control, you can additionally purchase an extension for another 1 year, which will add up to 2 years of the current subscription.

SWM renewal

If the user does not renew SWM, then Kerio Control continues to work and perform basic functions. However, the signature databases for the Sophos antivirus and the Gray Listing spam filter will no longer be updated, and after 60 days these functions will stop working altogether. Also, the user will not be able to update the product to new versions, synchronize mobile devices using the Active Sync protocol and receive technical support.

The total number of renewal licenses must be equal to the total number of product licenses. That is, the SWM renewal is purchased for both a server license and additional user licenses.

The start date of the SWM renewal is counted from the end of the previous subscription, i.e. if after the end of SWM the next subscription was issued only after 2 months, the user will have to pay for these 2 months.

Licensing

Kerio Connect calculates the number of licenses required based on the number of physical mailboxes required. Aliases and mailing lists are not counted.

When buying a new product, a server license must be purchased, which includes 5 users. If more than 5 users will use Kerio Control, then they are purchased additional packages licenses for 5 users.

A fully functional 30-day trial version of Kerio Connect is available at the company's office

Today, many companies are actively using e-mail. And this is absolutely nothing surprising - it is software allows you to quickly and cheaply exchange a wide variety of information. Therefore, it is used both for intracorporate communication of company employees and for their communication with the "outside world". However, a truly effective use of e-mail in a company is impossible without organizing its own mail system.

Therefore, it is used both for intracorporate communication of company employees and for their communication with the "outside world". However, a truly effective use of e-mail in a company is impossible without organizing its own mail system.

The key element of the corporate mail system is mail server... It is this product that provides all the necessary functionality for the exchange of letters. There are a lot of products on the market today mail servers... However, we recommend that you pay attention to which has recently released a new, now the seventh version. Why is this product good? On the one hand, it has the richest features, and on the other hand, it is surprisingly easy to administer and use.

By the way, calling Kerio Connect Mail Server, frankly speaking, we have sinned somewhat against the truth. The point is that - more than mail server... Today its functionality is much wider. It allows you to organize not only corporate postal system but also to provide general access company employees to the address book, calendars, task list, etc. That is, in fact, it can be considered a full-fledged replacement for Microsoft Exchange.

Configuring Kerio Connect

The basis of the product is mail server... And therefore, setting it up, for the most part, comes down to just configuring the latter. Moreover, this process cannot be called particularly complicated. Any qualified system administrator can handle it without any difficulty.

The configuration process begins with setting up services that are responsible for working with various protocols (SMTP, POP3, IMAP, NNTP, etc.). After that, a list of enterprise domains is entered. Moreover, for each, you can set your own parameters and restrictions on the use of e-mail. In particular, you can set the maximum size of outgoing messages, enable automatic deletion old letters, set up forwarding, set up a user authorization system, etc. Especially here we can note such a possibility of the product in question as a distributed domain. What it is? A distributed domain is, in fact, a kind of cluster that unites several servers. At the same time, a single information space is created, which ensures collective work with the data of all remote branches of the company, regardless of their geographical location.

The next step is to configure the SMTP server, which is responsible for sending emails. It has two modes of operation. The first one is direct, when it sends messages on its own, and the second one - using relaying. When using it, letters are transmitted through an external SMTP server. In addition, you can enable or, conversely, disable user authentication, restrict relaying, define the parameters of the queue in which messages are placed, etc. After that, you need to set the parameters for connecting to the Internet. By default, it is assumed that the computer on which it is installed is permanently connected to global network... However, if necessary, the administrator can change these settings, in particular, specify the RAS service and its startup parameters.

At the end of the system configuration, you can set Extra options... So, for example, it is possible to enable the execution of certain actions on a schedule, specify external mailboxes from which correspondence will be downloaded and distributed to corporate accounts, etc. The system implements a large number of additional settings, detailed description which can be found in the help system.

The final stage of configuration postal system is the domain setting. This includes, first of all, user input. For each of them, you can set a list of mailboxes, set the rules for forwarding incoming correspondence to various addresses, set administration rights, set quotas for volume mailbox and the number of objects in it. Additionally, you can set the rules for processing user messages. In particular, the administrator has the ability to allow sending and receiving mail only within his domain (to organize the internal mail system), limit the maximum size of an outgoing message, configure rules for deleting old letters, etc. For ease of configuration, all users can be divided into separate groups, each of which has its own parameters.

If necessary, you can create mailings. Moreover, each mailing can be very fine-tuned. The administrator can set literally everything, starting with such "trifles" as the text of the welcome message sent to a new subscriber, and ending with such serious moments as the rights to self-subscribe to the newsletter and send letters to it, the appointment of moderators, etc.

Security in Kerio Connect

The term "security" in relation to mail server Is a complex concept consisting of many different aspects. First, it is protection against external threats: spam and viruses. Secondly, protection against mail server spoofing. Third, prevention of insider activities. And finally, fourthly, protection against loss of messages stored in the database as a result of various failures. All these aspects are extremely important, and in no case should they be neglected. Fortunately, there are tools to protect against all of these threats.

To protect against spam, this product has a universal multi-component filter. When enabled, all messages (except for messages sent from trusted addresses) undergo several checks, during which they are assigned a digital score from 0 to 10. The higher it is, the more likely it is that the message being checked is spam. What kind of checks do the letters pass? First, there is a SpamAssassin filter based on a trainable Bayesian algorithm. Secondly, the system uses blacklists, and not only custom, but also public databases of spammers' IP addresses. Thirdly, a system of custom rules has been implemented. With its help, you can set a number of conditions (some of the message fields are empty, non-empty, contains a certain substring, etc.), when fulfilled, the message will be considered or, conversely, not considered spam. In addition, the administrator can enable and configure a number of additional security tools, for example, sender ID authentication, SPF flag, and SMTP greeting delay.

An integrated Sophos subsystem is used to protect against viruses. Unless, of course, when purchasing a license, you chose the option with integrated antivirus (it can be sold without it). In addition to it, the administrator can connect one of the anti-virus modules: Dr.Web, NOD32, etc. Naturally, this requires purchasing the appropriate product. In this case, checking of incoming correspondence can be carried out both by one subsystem, and by two at once (in turn). Additionally, the administrator can activate the attachment filter, which allows you to block messages with certain types of files, or delete attachments and only then deliver the messages to the recipient.

Protection against spoofing the mail server is carried out due to the possibility of using secure communication protocols (secure POP3, SMTP, IMAP, etc.). Moreover, the ability to create, export and import the SSL certificates necessary for their operation is implemented.

The product in question also has an archiving and backup system. Despite the similar names, these two operations are fundamentally different from each other. Archiving provides automatic saving correspondence with the ability to view it in the future. It can be used to protect against insiders. If suspicions arise or during the investigation of incidents, the manager or other responsible employee can view the letters sent and received by certain users. And backup means protection against loss of information. This operation creates backup copies of the message store and configuration of the entire system as a whole. As a result, if any failures occur, the administrator can quickly "reanimate" the mail system.

In addition, a number of additional security tools are implemented in the product under consideration. Among them there are quite original ones, but, of course, very useful features... So, for example, one cannot fail to note the function Kerio Smart Wipe. It allows you to delete from mobile devices important information on wireless communication... This allows you to protect data from unauthorized access in case of loss or theft of a smartphone from an employee of the company.

Using the mail system

In terms of using corporate e-mail, one cannot but surprise with its versatility. The fact is that it can be used to build an absolutely cross-platform system. At first, this server can work with big amount clients for different operating systems: Windows, Linux, Mac. Secondly, it implements the function Kerio WebMail. It allows you to organize access to mailboxes through a web interface. It is especially convenient for remote access employees on a business trip. The web interface allows them to use corporate mail from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.

Of course, one cannot fail to mention the support of the product in question. a large number variety of smartphones running Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android, iOS and other mobile operating systems. This allows companies to organize mobile workplaces, whose users can work with e-mail, receive information about new events in calendars, updates to address books, tasks, etc.

Summing up

After reviewing the process of setting up and using the product, you can ensure that it is functionality truly meet the requirements of the most discerning corporate users. In addition, it is easy to implement and easy to use. Installation, configuration and maintenance of the mail server does not require highly specialized skills. you can contact the partners of the 1Soft network.

I got tired of setting up mail in my office, so I decided to write this article. All office mail was previously received by the provider, then it was distributed to clients via the Kerio Mail Server on the local network.

For many years everything worked fine, recently the technical support of the provider decided to save their resources and all mail was transferred to Yandex.Mail. Moreover, they did not even report the changes: not by an official letter and there was no phone call. After that, the "rake" began in the work of the office, incoming and outgoing mail ceased to work, respectively. However, I quickly managed to set up the work of incoming mail on Kerio Mail Server, but I had to suffer with outgoing mail.

Incoming mail at the office via Kerio Mail Server with Yandex.Mail

In the Kerio Mail Server settings: Menu Configuration - POP3 Download, edit the line on the right. Clicking the "Edit" button will open the "POP3 Account" window.

1. In the "POP3 Server:" field, enter pop.yandex.ru.
2. In the "Username POP3:" field, enter the old postal address of your office, the same E-mail that we use in Yandex mail.
3. Your provider saves the password, so you can specify Old Password... If you want to change it, first you need to do this in the Yandex.Mail settings (Settings link, the Mail path> Settings> Security).

Incoming mail must be accepted on computers on the local network. Settings account on local computer remain the same in the program that previously received mail.

Outgoing mail in the office via Kerio Mail Server on Yandex.Mail

Setting up outgoing mail in Kerio MailServer we do it by analogy with incoming mail. In Kerio Mail Server: Menu Configuration - SMTP Server edit in the window on the right, the "SMTP Delivery" tab. Check the box "Use SMTP relay server". Most likely, you still had a checkbox ..

1. In the field "Relay server name:" smtp.yandex.ru
2. In the "Relay server port:" field, specify the port number 25
3. In the "User:" field, enter the old mailing address of your office and below the password.

If SSL is used, check the box below, the port will change to 465. The general Yandex settings say: In case you cannot use a secure connection, you can connect to the SMTP server on ports 25 or 587.

4. And now important point: in the mail program, in the account settings on the local computer, change the "Email" field on E-mail postal mailbox that you have located on Yandex.Mail. The same E-mail was entered into Kerio MailServer, in the "Username POP3:" field and in the "User" field in the SMTP settings. We leave the rest of the settings in the mail program on the local computer unchanged.
