How to set the time on the microwave. How to set the time on a Samsung microwave oven

Time adjustment is carried out using buttons or a knob. Manufacturers label them in their own way. On some microwaves, you can see the dial icon, on others just the inscription "Time".

On a mechanical microwave oven there are regulators. They are responsible for the power and heating rate. The timer must be adjusted correctly so that the food is heated but not burned.

You can heat the water in one minute, and the chicken legs will bake for 30-40 minutes.

To defrost food, set the timer for 3 minutes, with the power set to minimum.

Automatic microwave ovens do not require a time setting. It is enough to select the mode, for example, "Popcorn" or "Fish", and the oven will set the timer itself.

Electronic models Samsung and LG, allow you to increase or decrease the cooking time. You do not need to turn off the microwave or wait until set time will pass, you can use the Up / Down buttons.

Some models have a Delay Start function. This is convenient for those who combine cooking with other activities. The microwave oven will start working by itself. the right time... Make sure this function works properly, otherwise the timer will not work properly.

The clock goes off every time you unplug the microwave or your apartment is de-energized. For example, the lights were turned off recently.

Cautions

Precautions to Avoid Potential Excessive Exposure to Microwave Energy

Thanks to the interlocking contacts built into the oven door mechanism, you cannot turn on the oven with the door open. These interlocking contacts provide automatic shutdown any cooking mode when you open the door, because if you do not do this in the case of a microwave oven, you could be exposed to harmful microwave energy.
It is important not to try to do anything with the blocking contacts.
Do not insert objects between the oven door and the front panel, and do not allow food residues or cleaning agent residues to accumulate on the sealing surfaces.

Do not use a defective oven.
It is especially important that the oven door closes securely and that there is no damage to: (1) door (bent), (2) hinges and latches (broken or loose), (3) door seals and sealing surfaces.
The oven should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone other than a qualified microwave technician.

A warning
Please always make sure that you set the cooking time correctly, as cooking too long may result in food fires and subsequent damage to the oven.

Heating liquids such as soups, sauces and drinks in your microwave oven can overheat the liquid above its boiling point without visible vapor bubbles. This can cause the superheated liquid to boil up unexpectedly. To avoid this possibility, you must take the following measures:

1. Avoid using cylindrical vessels with narrow necks.
2. Do not overheat the liquid.
3. Stir the liquid before placing the vessel in the oven and then stir again after half of the preheating time has elapsed.
4. After heating is complete, let the jar stand in the oven for a while, then gently re-stir the liquid or shake the jar and check the temperature of the liquid before drinking to avoid scalding (especially for bottles and jars of baby food).

A warning
Always let food stand after microwave cooking and check
temperature of food before eating it. This applies in particular to the contents of baby food bottles and jars.

How does a microwave oven work

Microwaves are a form of energy similar to electromagnetic waves used in radio and television broadcasts and in normal daylight.
Usually, electromagnetic waves propagate outward through the atmosphere and disappear into space without a trace. However, microwave ovens have a magnetron that is designed so that the energy contained in the microwaves can be harnessed. Electricity conducted to the magnetron is used to generate microwave energy. Microwaves enter the cooking area through openings inside the oven. At the bottom of the oven there is a rotating turntable or pallet. Microwaves cannot penetrate the metal walls of the oven, but they can penetrate materials such as glass, porcelain and paper, the materials from which microwave safe dishes are made.
Microwaves do not heat the cookware; however, the cookware is heated by the heat generated in the food.

VERY SAFE DEVICE

Your microwave oven is one of the safest appliances to use. As soon as the door is opened, the oven automatically stops generating microwaves. When it penetrates food, microwave energy is completely converted into heat, leaving no “residual” energy in food that could have a harmful effect on your health.

Unpacking and installing the oven

By following the basic instructions on the next two pages, you can quickly set up your oven and test its functionality. Please pay particular attention to the instructions for the installation location of the oven. When unpacking your oven, be sure to remove all accessories and packing materials from the oven. Important safety instructions

A WARNING
Please always make sure you set the cooking time correctly, as cooking too long may result in FIRE AND OVEN DAMAGE.

Read carefully and keep for future reference.
1. Do not attempt to adjust or repair the door, control panel, interlock contacts or any other part of the oven yourself. It is dangerous to perform maintenance or repair operations on the oven by removing any shields or covers that provide protection against microwave radiation. Repairs should only be performed by a qualified microwave repair technician.
2. Do not turn on the oven when it is empty. It is recommended to put a glass of water in the oven when not in use. If you accidentally turn on the oven, the water will safely absorb all microwave energy.
3. Do not microwave dry clothes that may char or burn if you heat them for too long.
4. Do not cook foods wrapped in paper towels unless the cookbook gives you exactly the same cooking guidelines.
5. Do not use newspapers instead of paper towels when preparing food.
6. Do not use wooden utensils. It can overheat and char. Do not use ceramic utensils with a metallic finish (such as gold or silver). Always remove the twisted wires that tie the food bags. Metal objects can create an electric arc that can seriously damage the oven.
7. Do not operate the oven with a tea towel, napkin, or other obstruction between the door and the front ends of the oven, as this may cause microwave energy to leak out.
8. Do not use recycled paper as it may contain impurities that can cause sparks and / or fires when cooking.
9. Do not wash the turntable in water immediately after finishing cooking. It can break or crack.
10. Small quantities of food take less time to cook or heat up. If you program the normal times, food can overheat and burn.

Microwave ovenware

Never use metal or metal trimmed utensils in your microwave oven
Microwaves cannot pass through metal. They will reflect off any metal object placed in the oven and cause an electric arc similar in origin to lightning.
Most heat-resistant non-metallic cookware is microwave safe. However, some utensils may contain materials that make them unsuitable for use in a microwave oven. If you are in doubt about the suitability of a particular cookware, there is an easy way to determine if the cookware is microwave-safe.
Place the utensil you are concerned about in the microwave next to a glass of water. Turn on the microwave on HIGH power for 1 minute. If the water heats up and the utensil under test remains cold to the touch, it is microwave safe. However, if the water temperature does not change and the dishes become warm, this means that they absorb microwaves and are unsafe to use in a microwave oven. Your kitchen probably already has a lot of utensils that can be used in microwave cooking. Just read the list below.

Dinner plates
Many types of tableware are microwave safe. If in doubt, check the cookware manufacturer's documentation or carry out a microwave test.

Glassware
Heat-resistant glassware is microwave safe. This also applies to all brands of tempered glass cookware. However, do not use fragile glassware, such as wine glasses or wine glasses, as they can burst when food is heated.

Plastic containers for food storage
They can be used to quickly reheat food. However, they should not be used for cooking for long periods of time, as hot food will eventually deform or melt.

Paper
Paper plates and bowls are convenient and safe to use in the microwave as long as the cooking time is short and the food is low in fat and moisture. Paper towels are also very handy for wrapping food and lining baking trays in which greasy foods such as bacon are cooked. In general, try to avoid colored paper as the paint can transfer onto food. Some recycled paper products may contain impurities that can cause an electric arc or fire.

Plastic bags for cooking
They are microwave safe provided they are specifically designed for cooking. However, be sure to cut the bag so that steam can escape from the bag. Never use ordinary plastic bags to cook food in your microwave oven, as they will melt and tear.

Microwave Oven Plastic Cookware
Microwave ovenware is available in a variety of shapes and sizes. For the most part, you can probably use the utensils you already have in your kitchen rather than buying new ones.

Faience, pottery and ceramics
Vessels made from these materials are usually fine for microwave use, but to be sure they need to be tested as described above.

WARNING
Certain items of cookware with a high content of lead or iron are not suitable for use in the microwave oven; to be sure that they can be used in the microwave oven, you should test them.

Food Characteristics and Microwave Cooking

Watch the cooking process
The recipes in the cookbook have been carefully crafted, but your success in cooking with them depends on how closely you observe the cooking process. Always observe food as it cooks. Your oven has a built-in light that automatically lights up when cooking, so you can look inside and check how the cooking is going. Instructions given in recipes on when to lift, stir, etc., should be considered the minimum required. If your food seems to be cooking unevenly, just take the steps that you think will improve the situation.

Factors affecting cooking time
Cooking time depends on many factors. The temperature of the ingredients used in a recipe will greatly affect the cooking time. For example, a cake made with butter, milk, and eggs fresh from the refrigerator will take significantly longer to bake than a cake made with the same ingredients but at room temperature. Cooking time ranges are indicated in all recipes in this manual. In general, you will find that if you cook a dish for the minimum time specified in the recipe, it is usually not completely finished, and sometimes you even have to exceed the maximum specified time to prepare a dish to your liking. The basic principle adopted in this cookbook is to be conservative when specifying cooking times. After all, if the food is burnt, then this can no longer be fixed. Some recipes, especially recipes for breads, pies and custards, recommend removing the food from the oven slightly uncooked. It's not a mistake. If the food is allowed to stand, especially when covered, it continues to cook even after it has been removed from the oven, as the heat absorbed by the outer layers of the food gradually penetrates inside. If food is left in the oven until it is cooked throughout, the outer layers will dry out or even burn. You will gradually become more and more adept at determining the cooking times and standing times of various dishes.

Density of products
Light, porous foods like cake or bread cook faster than heavy, dense foods like roast beef or stews. When preparing porous food, you must take care that the outer edges do not become too dry and brittle.

Food height
Tops of taller foods, such as roast beef, will cook faster than the bottom. As a result, it is recommended to turn a dish with a high height during cooking, sometimes several times.

Number of products
The amount of microwaves in your microwave remains the same regardless of the amount of food you cook. Therefore, the more food you put in the microwave, the longer it will take to cook. When you cook any food that weighs half the weight in the recipe, be sure to reduce the cooking time indicated in the recipe by at least one third.

Products shape
Microwaves only penetrate food to a depth of about 2 cm; the inside of a thick dish is prepared by transferring the heat generated from the outside to the inside. Only the outer layers of any dish are cooked using microwave energy, the rest of the dish is cooked by heat conduction. This implies that the worst possible shape for microwave cooking is a thick square. The corners will be ready for a long time, and the center has not even heated up yet. Round delicate dishes and ring-shaped dishes are most successful in the microwave oven.

Covering
The lid traps heat and steam, making food cook faster. To cover, use a lid or a close-fitting film, lifting one of its corners so that the film does not burst with steam pressure.

Browning
Meats and poultry that are cooked for 15 minutes or longer will brown slightly with their own fat. For foods that cook for a shorter time, you can use a browning sauce such as Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or barbecue sauce for a delicious color. Since relatively small quantities sauce for browning, the original aroma of the food remains unchanged.

Covering with greaseproof paper
Greaseproof paper effectively prevents splashing and helps food retain some of the heat. But, since it covers the food less tightly than a lid or tight-fitting film, it allows the food to dry out slightly.

Placement and provision of gaps
Piece foods such as baked potatoes, muffins, snacks will heat more evenly when placed in the microwave on equal distances apart, preferably in a circle. Never stack food on top of one another.

Mixing
Stirring is one of the most important microwave cooking techniques. In normal cooking, food is stirred to blend the ingredients. However, when cooking with microwaves, food is stirred to spread and redistribute heat. Always stir food from the edges towards the center, as the edges heat up first.

Rollover
Large, tall dishes, such as large pieces of meat and whole chicken, must be turned over so that the top and bottom cook evenly. It is also recommended to turn chicken pieces and chops.

Placing thicker portions outside
Since microwaves are “attracted” to the outside of the food, it is wise to place thicker portions of meat, poultry or fish closer to the edges of the dish in which they are cooked. In this way, thicker portions will receive more microwave energy and the food will cook more evenly.

Shielding
To prevent overcooking, the corners and edges of square or rectangular dishes are sometimes covered with pieces of aluminum foil that block the microwaves. Never use too a large number of foil and ensure that the foil is firmly attached to the platter, otherwise an electric arc may occur.

Lifting
Thick and dense dishes can be lifted so that microwaves can be absorbed by the bottom and center of the dish.

Piercing
Foods enclosed in shells, skin or membranes can explode in the oven if you do not pierce them before cooking. These include the whites and yolks of eggs, shellfish and oysters, and whole vegetables and fruits.

Readiness check
The microwave cooks food so quickly that you need to check it frequently. Some dishes are left in the oven until they are completely cooked, but most dishes, including meat and poultry dishes, are removed from the oven slightly uncooked and allowed to cook while standing. During the settling period, the internal temperature of the food rises by an amount from 30 C to 80 C.

Standing time
Food is often allowed to stand for 3 to 10 minutes after it is removed from the microwave. Typically, food is covered while standing to keep warm, unless it needs to dry outside (for example, some cakes and biscuits). Sludge allows food to be cooked, and also allows the bouquet of its aromas to mix and strengthen.

Cleaning your oven

1. Keep the inside of the oven clean
Food drops or spilled liquids stick to the oven walls and get caught between the seals and the door surface. It is best to remove them immediately with a damp cloth. Food crumbs and droplets will absorb microwave energy and lengthen the cooking time. Use a damp cloth to remove any crumbs and food debris between the door and the oven sealing surfaces. These areas must be especially cleaned to ensure that the door closes securely. Remove grease droplets from the interior with a soapy cloth, then wash off the soap and wipe dry. Do not use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners. The glass tray can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.

2. Keep the outside of the oven clean
Clean the exterior surfaces with mild soap and warm water, then rinse off the soap and dry the cabinet with a soft cloth or paper towel. To prevent damage to the interior of the oven, do not allow water to seep into the ventilation holes. To clean the control panel, open the door to prevent accidental activation of the oven and wipe the panel with a damp cloth, then immediately wipe it dry with a soft cloth. After finishing cleaning, press the button. Stop / Reset.

3. If steam condenses inside or outside the oven around the door, wipe the panels with a soft cloth. This can happen when the microwave oven is operated in a high humidity environment and does not in any way indicate a malfunction of the oven.
4. The door and door seals must be kept clean. For cleaning, use only a soft cloth and warm soapy water, then rinse off the soap and dry thoroughly.
DO NOT USE ABRASIVE MATERIALS, SUCH AS CLEANING POWDERS, METAL SOAP, OR PLASTIC PILLOWS.
Metal surfaces it will be easier to keep clean if you wipe them down more often with a damp cloth.

Q. Why does a beep sound when I press a button on the control panel?
O. An audible signal indicates that your control signal has been entered into the oven's memory.

Q. Will the microwave oven be damaged if it is turned on while it is empty?
O. Yes. Never turn on the oven when it is empty or without placing a glass tray in it.

Q. Why do eggs sometimes “explode”?
O. When you bake, fry eggs, or cook poached eggs, the yolk can “explode” due to the accumulation of steam inside the yolk membrane. To avoid this, simply pierce the yolk before cooking the egg. Never cook eggs in their shells.

Q. Why is it advisable to let the food stand after the oven has finished cooking?
O. After microwave cooking has finished, it continues to cook while it is “standing”. This settling time allows the food to reach readiness throughout its entire volume. The length of the standing time depends on the density of the food.

Q. Can popcorn be cooked in the microwave?
O. Yes, using one of the two methods described below.
1. Using popcorn cookware designed specifically for
microwave oven.

Q. Why doesn't my oven always cook as fast as indicated in my microwave cookbook?
O. Refer to your cookbook again to check that you have followed all the instructions exactly and to find out what causes the change in cooking time. The cooking times and power levels shown in the cookbook are suggested to help prevent overcooking and scorching, a problem most often encountered during the microwaving period. Variations in food size, shape, weight and thickness can result in longer cooking times. As with a conventional cooker, supplement the cookbook directions with your own common sense and experience to ensure that food is cooked correctly.

The number of household appliances in the kitchen is increasing every year. This is due to the entry into the market of a wide variety of electronic meat grinders, devices for drying vegetables, huge food processors, and more. And often in a small kitchen there is simply nowhere to put them.

A modern housewife simply cannot do without a microwave in the kitchen, and the question often arises, where to put the microwave if there is practically no space left? Many people put it on the refrigerator or on an existing microwave. The question of the proximity of electrical appliances may be of concern to the owners of small cafes with small kitchens where there is not enough space.

The same issue is often discussed by residents of communal apartments, where the appliances of several housewives are placed in the same kitchen space. Also, in large industries there is a kitchen for catering to employees with many microwaves and other appliances. With such a close placement of household appliances, you need to think first of all about fire safety.

You should pay attention to the fact that each model of the microwave oven has ventilation openings in different parts of it: bottom, top or side. When installing, remember that the ventilation must not be closed, the air must circulate freely in the openings.

Otherwise, the microwave may simply burn out from excessive heat. The free distance to another device should be at least 20–30 cm for the top cover, 10 cm for the back cover, and for the side clearance should be at least 5–10 cm.

Two microwave ovens can perfectly coexist, because each has its own body, and function only in it. The only thing is to carefully inspect the devices, and place them so that the ventilation holes do not intersect.

For a solid installation, place a rubber mat between them so that the upper microwave cannot move or fall. Without such a layer, the thin casing of the CB furnace can be damaged. It is recommended to turn them on in turn.

IMPORTANT! It is forbidden to put a microwave oven near a heating radiator or electric and gas stove!

When installing on a refrigerator, you should also observe all ventilation standards and do not block openings. If you cannot install it in another way, you can put the oven on a special stand or legs. There is no information in the operating instructions saying that you should not put the microwave on the refrigerator or microwave.

ADVICE! When you go shopping, immediately determine the place for the CB oven. They come in a variety of sizes and may not fit the way you originally intended.

Safety engineering

  • When installing the device, take care of the close location of the outlet, it is better not to use an extension cord;
  • Do not place it next to flowers, the emitted waves can destroy the plant;
  • By placing the oven on the refrigerator, he will buy a heat-insulating mat;
  • Do not place the microwave from the very edge, otherwise one uneven movement may hook the appliance, and it will fall to the floor and be damaged;
  • It is not recommended to install SV ovens on refrigerators with high heights. It will be inconvenient to put and even more to get the heated food from there. You will need to stand on a chair or footboard, and such manipulations may result in a burn or fall.

Where is the best place to place a CB oven?

  • If there is not enough space in the kitchen, you can install the microwave on the bracket;
  • Also, many place it inside the cabinet, the main thing is that it does not stand right next to the walls;
  • Often the place on the windowsill is occupied only by flowers. Take them away and put on the oven;
  • As a standard, CB ovens are placed on the work surface of the countertop..

Buying a microwave oven, the user is in a hurry to quickly understand all of its functionality, master the management of programs and modes in order to learn how to use the technique without additional questions... One of these features is the microwave time, which almost all modern microwave ovens are equipped with.

Microwave time

Before setting the time on the microwave, it is worth looking into the user manual - there, in detail, often in pictures, the setup process is described. For setting, buttons or touch keys are used, depending on the type of control. Models on mechanics, as a rule, do not have a clock - there is only a timer.

An example for tuning on a microwave Samsung ME82VR-WWH:

In addition to displaying real time, you can set the time for heating, cooking or defrosting food. Correct installation hour settings will save you from spoiled, overcooked and too dry dishes.

Timing by product type and management

The nuances of setting the time differ depending on the type of microwave oven control.

Mechanical type

In the most budget models regulation of parameters is carried out using one of two knobs. One of them is needed to adjust the cooking time, the second is used to adjust the power level. Even in the simplest stove, the digits-minutes are written around the timer knob, so there will be no problems with which position to turn the knob to.

Electronics

Electronics is complex, but latest models manufacturers have relieved the user of the need to choose a cooking time: just select a product or dish from the list, and automatic program She will take care of the cooking process herself, programming the necessary time for the preparation of the dish. Don't worry - such ovens also have a timer, it is used in cases when a particular dish is not on the list.

Typically, the timer control buttons on key or touch panels are placed separately - in the upper or lower part of the panel. One button is for choosing minutes, the second is for seconds, but the designs and variations of the timer performance, depending on the manufacturer and model, may vary.

Delayed start

In modern Samsung, Siemens or LG microwave ovens there is another convenient function, such as a delayed start. There is special buttons, with the help of which the desired time is set, and after its expiration, the cooking process starts. It is very convenient if you are doing several things at the same time or circumstances require you to be away from the kitchen.

We have to spend a considerable amount of time in the kitchen: there we cook and eat, wash dishes and clean surfaces, drink tea and talk on long evenings. It is very convenient to be near the clock, home time management will be more effective with it. You don't need to buy for this additional device, you can easily adjust the time on the microwave.

How to adjust the time display

In models of microwave ovens from different manufacturers, the clock display function is arranged in a similar way. The interface is different: the location and name of the buttons, the digital display. In some mechanically controlled devices, the design does not allow you to set the current time, it is only possible to set the desired cooking duration on the timer.

Clock on display

Setting clocks in different microwaves

Samsung brand ovens have a function for setting the clock, which shows the time in one of two formats. When the microwave is turned on, the number zero flashes on the display. To control, press the button with the dial and select the mode: day or half of them. Then, to set the required number of hours, use the up and down arrows. Lock with the clock button. Adjust the minutes in the same way and secure with the “dial”.

The microwave chamber from Mystery is also equipped with an electronic display that reflects the current time when the cooking process is not in progress. In the latter case, the duration of the preset mode is displayed on the screen. The first switching on of the oven is accompanied by sound signal and the numeric symbol "1:01" flashes on the display. The range can be set from 01 to 12 by pressing the "Clock" icon. The current settings are reset using the icon in the Cancel menu. To set the correct time, press the "1 minute" key consecutively as many times as there are hours, fix by touching the "Clock" indicator. Do the same with minutes.

Time on the Mystery microwave scoreboard

The LG microwave oven has the same principle: the buttons select the number of hours and minutes, confirmed by pressing the button on which the dial icon is. An example of setting the time 13:25 in daily format:

  • we clear the settings using the "Stop \ Reset" button;
  • press "Clock" twice, select the display in the mode of the whole day;
  • impulsely press for "10 minutes" until we reach the display of the number "13";
  • using the "1 minute" button, set the number of tens of minutes, that is, press it twice;
  • the remaining five minutes will be given by the "10 seconds" button, which should be pressed five times;
  • fix the result with the "Clock" icon.

If you need to correct the set values, you can do this by touching the "Stop / Reset" function.

With every power outage, the time is reset and must be re-set on the screen.

Mechanics and electronics

Appliances equipped with a manual regulator for cooking modes are not intended to display the clock. These microwaves are easy to operate and affordable, but that doesn't mean they're worse than expensive ones. In simplified models, there are usually two knobs, turning one of them in a circle, you set the power or mode. The second is used to start the countdown timer and is most often used to heat food.

Microwave with mechanical control

The electronic type of control gives microwave ovens great functionality. The touch buttons located on the front panel are needed to select a program. If there is a specific task to warm up food, then you can use one of the keys, denoting minutes and seconds. A clock is built into these microwave ovens; after installation, the current time will be displayed on the display. To reset and change the settings, you need to enter the "Clock" menu, then press the "Stop" or "Cancel" button.

Cooking modes for different products

Each type of dish implies its own cooking duration. The setting of the minutes on the timer or touch panel depends on the recipe, the amount of food and the option required. In the microwave, you can boil porridge and vegetables, bake an omelet and a muffin, make steam cutlets or fish. Most modern appliances support the defrost function: microwaves gently penetrate the structure of the frozen product and thaw it, almost without heating. Models with an electronic menu are equipped with a range of different programs for automatic cooking. The most popular heating mode, which is supported by all microwave ovens.

Soft menu bar

Delay start is another useful option. The menu pre-sets the time when the start will work and the microwave will turn on the desired mode. At the end of the cooking time, the timer will automatically stop the process. When using this function, it is important to ensure that the time is entered correctly in the device's memory. Then there will be no unpleasant surprises.

You will learn more about the function of setting the clock and the purpose of the menu buttons from the instructions for the microwave.
