Leningrad naval base

It traces its history back to the Petrograd naval base, established in March 1919. During the Civil War, its personnel actively participated in the defense of St. Petersburg. After the end of the Civil War, the base was disbanded. It was re-established in 1939. During the Soviet-Finnish war, it provided combat operations for the Baltic Fleet. Disbanded in July 1940. Re-formed in October 1941 as part of a detachment of ships of the river. Neva, ships of protection of the water area, transport and icebreakers, railway artillery batteries, artillery of N.-and. naval artillery range and other units. The base supported the actions of the land forces of the Leningrad Front with naval and coastal artillery fire, participated in the formation and landing of tactical amphibious assault forces, provided air and mine defense of ships and vessels, and was engaged in logistics support for the combat operations of the fleet forces. Disbanded in November 1944. Later it was created twice - in 1951 (disbanded in 1956) and in 1961. She was awarded the Order of the Red Banner (1975).
During the Great Patriotic War, the base was commanded by: Rear Admiral F. I. Chelpanov (1941), Rear Admiral Yu. A. Panteleev (1941-1942), Captain 1st Rank G. I. Levchenko (1942), Rear Admirals M Z. Moskalenko (1942), I. D. Kuleshov (1942-44), A. P. Alexandrov (1944).

The training of the forces of the Leningrad Naval Base in 2011 was aimed at maintaining the combat readiness of the military command and control bodies and forces at a level that ensures the fulfillment of the tasks assigned to them. The training was carried out in the difficult conditions of the ongoing reform of the Armed Forces. All this required the concentration of efforts of the command of formations, ships and units in order to successfully solve the assigned tasks.

The training plan for military command and control bodies and forces (troops) for 2011 has been fully implemented. The results of fulfilling the tasks of combat training, the daily activities of the forces of the LenVMB in the 2011 academic year make it possible to assess the moral and psychological state of the personnel of the ships and units as satisfactory.

In general, the tasks set were successfully completed, methods and programs of combat training were mastered, commanders of all levels gained and consolidated experience in leading military units and subunits, skills in command and control of forces, the effective use of weapons, and the performance of tasks by formations were improved. According to the results of the 2011 academic year, the LenVMB ranked first in the Baltic Fleet in the absolute majority of positions. The best connections: 1st place - a brigade of surface ships, 2nd place - a brigade of submarines, 3rd place - a brigade of ships under construction and repair, among training units 1st place - Vyborg training detachment, 2nd place - Kronstadt training detachment.

In 2011, more than 30 course tasks were worked out and handed over by the ships, more than 100 combat exercises of various types were performed using all the weapons and weapons systems available on the ships of the LenVMB, which is much more than in previous training periods. Every year, ship groups took part in the collection-campaigns of the formations of the ships of the fleet, the exercises of the groupings of the forces of the Baltic Fleet.

In 2011, ships of the naval forces of foreign states visited St. Petersburg: Venezuela, Brazil, Ireland, the Netherlands, the USA, Germany, and Algeria. In addition, there were visits of military delegations from France, Turkey, the USA, and Ukraine. The Leningrad naval base provided for all these visits.

Parades of the ships of the Baltic Fleet were held at a high level on the Day of the Navy in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt, in which the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy Admiral Tatarinov A.A., Deputy Commander of the Baltic Fleet Vice Admiral Kravchuk V.P. ., Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District I.I. Klebanov, Governor of St. Petersburg V.I. Matvienko, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Tyulpanov V.A., other officials.

In 2011, an operational-mobilization gathering of the leadership of the Navy in St. Petersburg, a meeting of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Admiral Vysotsky V.S., fleet commanders with the best graduates of naval educational institutions in the Konstantinovsky Palace was ensured.

Work with veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the Navy was systematized, their account was compiled (more than 10 thousand), including generals and admirals (200 people), Heroes of the Soviet Union and Heroes of Russia (60 people). A united council of veterans was created. The fighting traditions of previous generations of defenders of the Motherland have been preserved and are developing.

Close interaction has been established with the Maritime Council under the Government of St. Petersburg during the city events with the participation of military sailors of the LenVMB. Issues of interaction between LenVMB and the Government of St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region, and the administration of the Kronstadt District are being resolved on an ongoing basis and with high quality.

Earlier in 2009, on May 8, at a solemn ceremony in the Kremlin, Russian President Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev presented the delegation of St. Petersburg with a letter of awarding Kronstadt the honorary title of "City of Military Glory". St. Petersburg was represented at the ceremony by Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the city Vadim Albertovich Tyulpanov, head of the Kronstadt District Alexander Mikhailovich Goroshko and then Commander of the Leningrad Naval Base Rear Admiral Anatoly Ivanovich Lipinsky.

There is also our merit in this high appraisal of Kronstadt. Indeed, on May 18, 1954, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, for the courage and heroism shown in the Great Patriotic War and in connection with the 250th anniversary of Kronstadt, the Kronstadt fortress was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

On April 30, 1975, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, for the contribution to strengthening the country's defense capability and in connection with the 30th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Leningrad Naval Base was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

In close cooperation with the Administration of the Kronstadt region, the restoration of the Kronstadt Naval Cathedral in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is being carried out.

Social issues of families of military personnel are always resolved promptly: registration of children of military sailors in preschool institutions and schools in Kronstadt is always a priority.

In 2011, the LenVMB and the Administration of the Kronstadt region jointly held many significant events. Among them: the consecration of the bells of the Kronstadt Naval Cathedral, ensuring the stay in Kronstadt of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, Svetlana Vladimirovna Medvedeva, and other honored guests.

In conclusion, I would like to quote the words spoken by the Governor of St. Petersburg: “At all times, the Leningrad Naval Base has honorably performed combat missions to protect our Motherland! The feat of the Baltic sailors is inscribed in golden letters in the heroic annals of the defense of Leningrad. Military sailors have always been and remain the pride of St. Petersburg - the sea capital of Russia. Petersburgers love and appreciate you.”

Captain 1st rank Oleg Anatolyevich Dovganyuk

Deputy commander of the LenVMB for educational work

In April, I was in Kronstadt and, standing on the pier of the Peter the Great Canal, I took photographs of warships. The base to Kronstadt is part of the structure of the Leningrad Naval Base (LenVMB) - the naval base of the Baltic Fleet. The Leningrad naval base includes bases and ports in Kronstadt, St. Petersburg, Oranienbaum, Priozersk, as well as the water area of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga. This is my first first acquaintance with the Baltic Fleet.

At first I thought it was a lighthouse, but it turned out that the lighthouse also combines a leading sign! Leading marks are used to determine the position of the vessel relative to the axis of the navigable fairway and, together with buoys, buoys, are included in the fairway designation system.

Most of the ships I saw were not familiar to me, I had never seen such ships in Severodvinsk. Because of this, I had to turn to reference books. Let's start:

"RT-57" is a project 10750 raid minesweeper. In the fleet since 1989.

Two days ago, I wrote about the raid minesweeper, which is based with us, as part of the White Sea Naval Base. So, the project 10750 "Sapphire" becomes the next stage in the development of the project 1258, with the installed third propulsion engine, new weapons and structures made of improved materials. The raid minesweeper project was revised in the second half of the 1980s. The main developer is PKB Almaz. Work manager - GK V.Blinov

"RT-248" is a project 10750 raid minesweeper. In the fleet since 1990.

In the photo below, if I'm not mistaken, "BT-115" is the basic minesweeper of project 12650. It has been in the fleet since 1994. These three ships are part of the 22nd minesweeper division.

At first I thought it was a landing ship, I still thought so! It turned out to be the floating workshop "PM-30" of project 304. In the fleet since 1984.

I will finish the topic with this gun! Tomorrow it will be about warships, including even one from the Caspian flotilla!
