It usually happens to me like this: First, I change the hardware, then I realize that the OS does not want to start (therefore, Option 1 is described from a theoretical point of view, based on the knowledge of windows) and the search for a solution begins (do not rebuild the hardware back). It is also not difficult, although a little more manipulations will be required. Untie the old hardware by editing the registry directly. But first things first:

  1. We need a windows PE image (a windows preinstallation environment used to prepare for the installation of windows operating systems), or an OS image (it is also called windows PE, although this is no longer just an environment for preparation, but an almost full-fledged OS) that is not tied to any hardware installed on a USB flash drive or USB HDD.   2. We boot and if this is a "full-fledged" OS we boot and run the registry editor (it is usually present), select our OS and connect to it. If we boot from windows PE, then select System Restore and select the item, select the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset item.
  3. Launch the registry editor.

Once I liked it, but now any routine actions strain me a lot, as a result of which I thought about a way to transfer an already working and configured windows operating system from a laptop to any other personal computer.

For a long time I have been using recovery of the windows operating system using the image created by the Acronis True Image program. But is it really possible to transfer the image of the windows 7 operating system created on a laptop to another laptop or stationary personal computer without any problems? There is no definite answer on the Internet.

After reading the help for Acronis True Image, I learned that there is a proprietary Acronis Universal Restore technology that allows you to restore an image to different hardware. Naturally, there are limitations and some required steps for a successful image transfer.

Task: You have an ACER ASPIRE 5742Z laptop with the installed operating system windows 7 SP1 Russian version 32 Bit, you need to create an image of the bootable system partition C: and then transfer it to a stationary PC also to partition C :.

Tools and programs: Create or download Acronis True Image 2013 Plus Pack or RBCD rescue disk. An external USB hard drive is also required to contain the operating system image. The program for saving drivers to the hard drive, I used DriverMax.

3. Select section C: by checking the box and click the "Next" button.

5. Click the "Add search path" button and in the window that opens, specify the path to the folder with the drivers that we previously saved (found), to continue, click the "OK" button. The folder with drivers can also be pre-recorded on a stationary PC only on another partition D, E, etc. not just an external USB hard drive.

6. You will see the exact path to the folder with the drivers, to continue, click the "Next" button.

7. Select partition C: by checking the box, leave the MBR item blank, to continue, click the "Next" button.


8. In the settings of section C, click the "New storage" link, and in the window that opens, specify the section C: (this is the one on the stationary PC) to continue, click the "Accept" button. 9. Leave everything by default “Partition type and Partition size” and click the “Next” button.

The process of restoring the image created on the laptop to the selected partition of the stationary PC will begin, after which a window will appear about the successful completion of the restore operation. If you receive an error about a missing driver, you can skip or place the driver in the appropriate folder.

12. Recovery is complete, unplug the USB external drive, remove the bootable disk from the drive and restart your computer.

If the recovery is successful, after loading the desktop of the windows operating system, the installation of drivers will begin, after which you will need to restart the computer. If you receive any errors that do not interfere with the loading of windows, remove (reinstall) the driver, program, utility, in general, configure everything again.

P.S I had to change the name of the computer, reinstall the drivers for wi-fi and sound, adjust the screen resolution and the network with the Internet. And also the activation of two programs fell off, but otherwise “the beautiful marquise” everything is fine, everything is fine.

There are times when you need to transfer the operating system to another hard drive. For example, imagine that your computer has a small hard drive and you run out of memory. My computer has two hard drives. One of them is old with 80 GB (drive A), the second is a new one with a volume of 500 GB (drive B). It turns out that I need to transfer the Windows operating system from hard drive A to drive B. When all the operations are done, we can see that all information from the old hard drive (including Windows itself) has been transferred to the new one. However, the new hard drive has more memory than the old one, so we are left with an unallocated empty area. We can correct this.

First, right-click on the disk and in the menu that appears, click Resize Volume

Next, let's set the size of the unallocated space in front of the drive itself, since free space is needed to increase drive C. Disk C I had 50 GB, but I decided to increase the system disk to 100 GB. To do this, I need to leave about 50 GB in order to add it to disk C after all operations. Now click OK.

Note: owners of computers with a preinstalled OEM version of Windows 7, after transferring the hard drive to another computer using this tool, will have to reactivate the OS by phone, because activation information is rigidly tied to a specific hardware, such as a motherboard.

Stage 1. Preparing the system disk for transfer to another PC.

The sysper utility can be run both in the graphical interface and from the command line as an administrator with various parameters, depending on your task. For example the command

c: \ windows \ system32 \ sysper \ sysper.exe / oobe / generalize / shutdawn

removes operating system data from the Windows installation and shuts down the computer. Operating system information includes event logs, unique security identifiers (SIDs), and other information. After deleting unique system information, the computer is shut down. After the computer is shut down, you can boot Windows PE or another operating system onto the computer, and then record the Windows installation using the program ImageX by creating an original image that will be used on computers with similar equipment... A few things to know about sysprep:

the configuration of the computers on which the system is planned to be deployed should be approximately the same. For example, if you created an image of a uniprocessor system, then you cannot use it to deploy to a dualprocessor machine;

target computers must have the same BIOS types. For example, an image of a source computer with an ACPI BIOS will not work for a computer with an AWP BIOS;

the size of the system disk of the target computer must be the same or larger than that of the source computer;

sysprep does not create a disk image, it only prepares the system for cloning.

So, to prepare the transfer of a hard drive from an installed Windows 7 to another computer, you need to run the command in the command line as an administrator:

% windir% \ system32 \ sysprep \ sysprep

Pay attention to the settings that need to be set:

in the "Actions to clean up the system" select the option "Go to the system welcome window (OOBE)" and mark the option "Prepare for use";

in the "Shutdown parameters" select Completion of work. Choosing the "Restart" option will allow you to immediately take an image of the already prepared system disk by booting from the USB Windows PE disk. If you boot from the prepared system disk, you will have to start over the entire process of preparing the system transfer to disk.

After pressing the OK button, the system cleaning process starts, after it is finished, the computer turns off. Now you can transfer the hard drive to a new system, change the motherboard, and so on.

At the beginning of the download, you will see the inscription "Preparing the system for use", then "Installing devices":

The system may reboot and continue with the installation - this is normal.

In the end, you should see the regional settings window (the appearance of this window already indicates that the transfer was successful):

Enter the name of the new user. In order not to confuse the settings of existing users, enter a name that has not been used previously (for example, Test). This user can then be deleted.

Next, the standard settings for date and time, automatic update, etc. are performed. As a result, you will be taken to the desktop of the Test user. Now you can log out and log in with your regular account. The last step is to update the device drivers.

As mentioned above, Microsoft recommends doing this operation only for computers with the same configuration (AMD-AMD, Intel-Intel). Otherwise, various glitches are very likely to occur.
