Meizu M6 Note review: now on Qualcomm. The main camera of a mobile device is usually located on its rear panel and can be combined with one or more additional cameras

This is how the brand positions its device. And although the smartphone is not a budget, but an average price category, in practice Meizu M6 Note turned out to be quite consistent with this slogan. For its money, it offers an excellent set of features. But when using it, some small nuances have emerged that you need to know if you have your eye on this model.

Body and design

The smartphone is delivered in a box, in which, along with the device, two separate packages with a wire and a charger are enclosed, as well as a paper clip and instructions.

We got a review of the Meizu M6 Note in black color, its lid is made of painted aluminum. In this color, the body easily collects stains from fingers and is difficult to rub off from them, but it is very pleasant to the touch.

A flash of four diodes was placed on the antenna line, different blinking effects of which can be set for calls. In addition, when you turn on the flashlight, when the smartphone is in a standard case, you get a nice backlight around the edge. There are two camera lenses under the flash.

The screen is covered by a protective glass with rounded edges. It was not possible to check how much it collects fingers, since they immediately glued Meizu branded glass in the store.

Above the display is traditionally a speaker and a front camera, and underneath is a single button with a built-in fingerprint scanner.

At the top of the smartphone there is only a microphone, and at the bottom there is a 3.5 mm jack, a microphone, Micro-USB and a music speaker. If you use the connectors carelessly, you can leave scratches near the headset and charging points, but in general, the smartphone is not one of those that easily collect scratches.

On the left edge there is a slot for SIM cards and memory cards, on the right there are volume buttons and a power button.

If you wish, you can find fault with the fact that the Meizu M6 Note is heavy and looks a little pale from the back. But it's up to you to find fault or not.

Display

The screen here is 5.5-inch with Full HD resolution and a pixel density of 403 ppi. It is fully laminated, that is, without an air gap, so if you break the screen, you will have to change both the glass and the matrix. But thanks to this technology, the screen is more contrasting, conveys colors deeper.

The plus is that, compared to the 5 Note, the screen is less bright and with quieter color reproduction without going to yellow. The default colors are pleasing and balanced, but you can calibrate your own if you want to enhance the effect.

The viewing angles are not bad, with only a slight decrease in brightness at a high angle.

The overall brightness is sufficient for using the smartphone outdoors in bright light.

The display bezels on the sides are thin, you don't notice them when using.

In general, the screen is beautiful without any "buts".

Hardware

The Meizu M6 Note is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, Adreno 506 graphics, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage with expandable storage via micro-SD cards.

In benchmarks, the device manifests itself as a good average: in the Geekbench 4 multi-core test, the device gains 4272 points, in AnTuTu its result is 76,799 points.

All tasks are performed quickly, without lags and freezes. Asphalt 8 runs at high settings. While the promised 71% boost in graphics performance over the Note 5 isn't really felt in practice, it works great. And in the graphics test Geekbench, the device is gaining 3163 points.

The only question about the speed and smoothness of the response arises if you leave many windows open: the transition on links and scrolling of pages begins to freeze a little. Therefore, do not overload the RAM, and you will be happy.

Wireless and mobile communications work flawlessly. Especially pleasing is the even Wi-Fi reception Besides, there is a built-in test of its speed in the settings.

The speaker, although one, in the words of the owner of the device, "does not sound ashamed." The equalizer can be used to adjust the sound to suit you.

Battery

The manufacturer promises 10 hours of gameplay on a single charge. It was not possible to check whether the battery is enough for that much in the game mode, but with mixed active use, the device can withstand more than a day of work.

It was noticed that with one active SIM-card the time autonomous work increases significantly.

A full charge takes 90 minutes.

Cameras

The latest smartphone is equipped with a dual camera with Sony IMX362 / Samsung 2L7 sensors, and both modules have a fairly wide aperture: 12 megapixels with ƒ / 1.9 and 5 megapixels with ƒ / 2.0.

A few more features are the flash of two warm and two cold LEDs, as well as really instant focusing.

There is a manual mode, slow motion modes, panoramas and other standard settings.

The dual camera is here for bokeh, and, as is the case with other smartphones with a similar feature, the blurring is not always correct. Sometimes the blur is too strong, there are defects along the border of blur and focus. But I must say that more expensive top-end devices can also have bokeh errors.

Good outdoor lighting makes great shots. In the dark and artificial light, the camera shoots with detail, although it makes a little noise.

In terms of video shooting, there is digital stabilization when recording Full HD video. But it is not available for 4K, so videos in maximum resolution are obtained with a little rattling.

The front 16MP camera takes good selfies, but it also makes a little noise in artificial lighting. If you use make-up effects, keep in mind that they tend to overly narrow and blur your face.

A big plus is that the front camera can record Full HD video.

In general, I liked the quality of shooting with both cameras.

ON

The smartphone runs on Android 7.1 with the Flyme shell sauce, which uses the One Mind artificial intelligence system. It adjusts to the user's mode of life, his sleep and wakefulness, as well as habits, and speeds up the opening of applications that are most often used.

I like that you can open two windows on the screen at once, and also that when you long press the icon on the upper curtain, you go to the corresponding section of the settings. And the presence of a recycle bin from which you can recover accidentally deleted files.

A handy option is customizable gestures in the Quick Wake section. You can set a symbol, drawing which on the off display will start any application. But the most practical is the ability to switch tracks by swiping across the display without activating the screen.

From the usefulness of the shell, it is worth noting password protection - entering passwords only from the Flyme keyboard in order to avoid data leakage. As well as secure payments - protection against screen overlay, interception of transaction confirmation messages and other malicious processes.

Alternatives

Based on the presence of a dual camera, alternative models - , Huawei mate 10 Lite, or Xiaomi Mi5S Plus, which for the same money are sold in a configuration with 4 GB / 64 GB.

LeEco Cool1 without specifying the characteristics and functions of the second module, with video shooting up to 2160p 30 fps, as well as a narrower aperture and lower resolution of the front camera. And with wide bezels around the screen, but count at half the price and excellent quality in the dark.

Huawei Mate 10 Lite 5.9-inch, with a resolution of 2160x1080 pixels, a dual main camera 16MP + 2MP and a dual front camera 13MP + 2MP, but with a 3340 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Mi A1 has both 12 megapixel main camera modules, but the ап / 2.2 aperture and a thousand mAh battery are less than that of our ward.

The Xiaomi Mi5S Plus has a 13MP + 13MP main camera, and is powered by the Snapdragon 821 in a company with the Adreno 530, but it also has an inferior battery capacity.

Among the models without dual cameras, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) with an AMOLED display and one, but even faster camera, lives in the same price range. However, it has lower video resolution and frame rate, processor frequency and battery capacity.

Another option is the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 shovel with a 6.44-inch display, 4 GB of RAM, 5300 mAh, but a less interesting camera.

And finally, the iPhone SE 16GB doesn't require much introduction.

Pros and cons

  • moderately bright and rich display;
  • dual camera with very fast focus;
  • fast response and well-coordinated work in most scenarios;
  • good level of autonomy;
  • convenient software with Flyme chips.

Conclusion

Meizu M6 Note has collected a balanced set of characteristics, among which the display, main camera, autonomy and software are the most pleasing. Appearance remains a subjective criterion - some will like the back of the device, some will not. This is not to say that this is the best of the best offers, but in general this model can be recommended as the golden mean from what is on the market up to 17k rubles.

Previous generations of the Note line were scolded mainly for budget chipsets from MediaTek, while in other parameters - assembly, camera, screen, software - these were excellent mid-range smartphones. But, in comparison with its main competitor - Xiaomi, Meizu smartphones have always lost in performance.

Price and main characteristics

The brand new M6 Note can already be found in Russian online stores. The device is available in three modifications, the youngest will cost $ 165. For the 3/32 version, you will have to pay $ 195, and the top version is priced at $ 255.

Meizu M6 Note became the first smartphone in the lineup with a Snapdragon processor and a dual camera. Such changes contributed to the excitement around the device, the first batch of 200 thousand devices sold out during the day during the start of sales in China.

Completion and appearance

When unpacking the M6 Note, the user may get the impression that he mistakenly acquired a smartphone from the previous generation - the design of the cardboard box is so reminiscent of the M5 Note. Inside it you can find the minimum set of all the essentials: a microUSB cable, a charging unit, the device itself and documentation.

Aside from the recently released Meizu Pro 7, most of the manufacturer's smartphones follow the same pattern. The M6 Note looks like it just got off the tape of a copier. It differs from its predecessor only in small things, which are rather difficult to notice at first glance. The dual camera at the back brings more clarity - an unprecedented attribute among Meizu state employees.

A closer look at the device reveals a lot of interesting things. Firstly, for some reason he did not receive a Type-C connector on the bottom edge, although new standard has become almost an indispensable item in the technical specifications of every new smartphone. Secondly, the corners of the device have become a little more rounded, thanks to which it fits even better in the hand. The metal body of the M6 Note has received four color options: black, blue, silver and gold.

Traditionally, a multifunctional button with an mTouch fingerprint scanner is located under the 5.5-inch display of the gadget. The upper insert is occupied by the earpiece, 16-megapixel front camera and a pair of sensors.

In a small recess on the right are the keys for activating the screen and volume control.

On the left is a hybrid SIM card slot.

The multimedia speaker and 3.5 mm headphone jack are located on the bottom edge of the device. The space between them is occupied by a microUSB connector. The upper end does not bear anything interesting, there is only one small hole for the noise canceling microphone.

Finally, the back cover. Dual camera lenses come in different sizes and are positioned vertically. Above them, it is easy to see a plastic antenna insert with a built-in LED flash in the middle.

In general, the designers of the M6 Note did not look for new ways, in the new model we saw a slightly adapted, but still the same Meizu. Lack of imagination can hardly be written down as disadvantages, because this format has already managed to please millions of users around the world. And even after several days of use, the novelty leaves only pleasant impressions.

Screen

The M6 Note features a 5.5-inch IGZO display with FullHD resolution. Due to the high pixel density (403 units per inch), the image on the screen looks solid, it is almost impossible to see the pixel grid with the naked eye. The maximum display brightness threshold is limited to 450 nits, and the contrast is 1000: 1. Multi-touch supports up to 10 simultaneous clicks. During the test, the M6 Note did not notice any errors in the touchscreen.

Standard IPS matrix of course it loses to more progressive AMOLED solutions. Users of flagships in comparison may notice that the M6 Note looks rather dull and ordinary. However, the viewing angles and screen brightness are quite enough for basic tasks. On the larger smartphone for $ 155 does not apply.

Performance

Previous models in the line were often touted until it came to the processor. Mediatek has long remained a weak spot for Meizu, and for many buyers this has become a serious reason to change their choice in favor of a similar solution from Xiaomi. Finally, the brand's fans were overtaken by a change. The brand new M6 Note is equipped with a Snapdragon 625 chipset and Adreno 506 graphics.

Paired with 3 or 4 GB of RAM, the smartphone earns well-deserved points in the benchmarks. It also performed well in everyday use. Is that small brakes when switching the camera to 4K resolution let you know about the imperfection of the firmware. Gamers will be pleasantly surprised that the M6 Note has the right level of gaming performance. At the same time, the device does not heat up and does not experience throttling problems after hours of load.

Camera

The second long-awaited gift from Meizu was a dual photo module on the back panel. The main Sony IMX362 sensor has a resolution of 12 megapixels, the auxiliary OV - 5 megapixels. Both lenses have an f / 1.9 aperture. The camera is also capable of capturing colorful 4K videos. True, in the early version of the firmware, there are small friezes when recording video in the very high resolution... It is hoped that the manufacturer will fix all the shortcomings in the future.

Compared to its predecessor, the M6 Note has taken several big steps forward. The main camera received new software for working with background blur, autofocus and portrait mode. Daylight shots are quite high quality, with accurate color reproduction and capture of all the small details. Photos at night also look acceptable. Finally, the significant distortion that had interfered with shooting with the M5 Note has disappeared.

The front 16MP camera has an f / 2.0 aperture lens. Selfies come out of sufficient quality; the device has a variety of face enhancement algorithms and other useful options in its arsenal.

Speaker, sound quality

A smartphone is hardly worth using for listening to music through a multimedia speaker. It has a decent volume headroom, but the audio track itself seems unnecessarily "flat" due to the lack of tangible bass. For music lovers, we recommend using a third-party high-quality headset.

The speaker of the device is surprisingly good, the interlocutor is heard loudly and clearly.

Battery

The device is definitely not a thin smartphone, all because of the built-in 4000 mAh battery. This stock will be enough for all your daily needs. The M6 Note can last up to two days on a single charge in normal use.

The battery supports fast charging. True, there is no Type-C here, which can be safely written down as a disadvantage of the device. On the other hand, you can always find a charger for an outdated connector.

Communication and Internet

The M6 Note's connectivity list consists of dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and LTE support. The device works fine in Russian latitudes, during the test, no disconnections were noticed.

Some will complain about the lack of NFC or IrDA. The first one can be dispensed with for now, and the second is not very popular based on the similar experience of Xiaomi.

Video review Meizu M6 Note

Competitors, conclusion

  • Changing the line of processors;
  • Dual camera;
  • Autonomy;
  • Convenient and well-assembled body.
  • Mediocre display
  • No Type-C;

Meizu M6 Note is a sign of the beginning of positive changes. The long-awaited switch to Snapdragon and dual cameras make the device a worthy contender for the competition. All the same recognizable state employee from Meizu finally lost most of its negative sides. The only drawback for now is the manufacturer's refusal to switch to Type-C connectors.

In the past few months, the life of Meizu - one of the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturers - has been filled with very remarkable events. In 2018, the company turns fifteen years old, which will undoubtedly lead to many events dedicated to this date. In addition, in the fall of last year, Meizu unveiled its first smartphone based on a single-chip system manufactured by Qualcomm. Yes, dear friends, you guessed it, the topic of today's article will be a review of the fresh Meizu M6 Note.

Experienced readers of our resource know that earlier the main supplier of processors for Meise was MediaTek. However, no matter how good their processors were in terms of price-performance ratio, they could not come close to the new Snapdragon in terms of power and energy efficiency. Now Meizu and Qualcomm have settled their differences, and this is giving Snapdragon processors a welcome green light.

What kind of extraordinary novelty has turned out from Meise? What features does it have and does it need special instructions? We will try to find answers to these and many other questions in today's material. Let's "go over" the parameters, as well as separately consider all the main components of any smartphone based on the Android operating system. All in all, we present to your attention our review of the Meizu M6 Note and wish you a pleasant reading.

The smartphone comes in a very standard and especially unremarkable white cardboard box. If you do not know that the box contains the device from Meise, then from afar it is quite possible to confuse it with the packaging of any other vendor. mobile phones, which also prefers a discreet style. Nevertheless, the packaging materials themselves do not cause any complaints, the cardboard is dense and protects the gadget well from light mechanical damage.

The content of the kit is also quite standard for a mid-budget representative of the first echelon of Chinese brands. In other words, the package bundle of the smartphone is very meager and contains only the most necessary things. So, in addition to the main device, we also managed to find in the box:

  1. Charger.
  2. Micro-USB cable.
  3. A clip for removing SIM cards.
  4. Accompanying documentation.

Design and ergonomics

The first thing you think about when you look at the brand new Meizu M6 Note smartphone is that Meizu does not change itself. Indeed, the design of the new device, so to speak, is as “standard” as possible and is similar to many other devices by the company that came out earlier. Someone might say that in this way Meizu's devices become distinctive and well recognizable. Perhaps it is, but it seems to us more the right approach, which the company applied when creating Pro 7, that is, the maximum departure from uniformity and an attempt to bring something new and original to the industry.

Nevertheless, it is worth giving the designers Meise their due in the fact that in each of his new smartphone they still try to add some "zest" that would make the device individual, and not leave a faceless representative of the same type lineup... In Meizu Pro 6, the ring flash served as such a bright small element, while in M6 Note the flash is inserted with a thin line into the plastic strip of the upper antenna, which we have never seen before. Also, the phone highlights the elegant, soft rounding of the edges on back cover, thanks to which the phone is very comfortable and confident in the palm of your hand, as well as a thin bevel that is located on the side of them.

Traditionally for mid-budget Meizu smartphones, the M6 Note is made as an all-metal candy bar, the front is completely covered with a hardened protective glass processed using 2.5D technology. The phone is assembled with a very high quality, during testing we did not notice any backlash or squeaks. Tempered glass also fully copes with its function, and if you do not set yourself the goal of deliberately scratching it, then it will look like new for quite a long time. As for tactile sensations, the metal is slightly rough, but very pleasant to the touch; although fingerprints on the back wall remain, they are very unnoticeable. The phone comes in four colors: black, silver, gold and blue. We managed to hold several devices in our hands, and the gold and blue shades seemed to us the most "tasty".

In terms of placement of functional elements, a smartphone is mostly standard. On the front panel above the screen we have the earpiece, front camera, light indicator and a set of other sensors, and under the screen we will find the mTouch multifunctional button, which also has a built-in fast fingerprint scanner. And here back panel almost empty. In addition to the LED flash already mentioned today, two camera modules are also looking at us, which we just have to talk about in more detail. One of them rises slightly above the body by literally a couple of millimeters, and the second, on the contrary, is placed flush with the body and even slightly drowns in it, somewhat resembling one of the options for placing a fingerprint sensor.

No matter how much we would like to repeat the same things again, but, unfortunately, in the context of information about functional elements we have to talk about the side edges again. Here, everything is fully standard for lovers of smartphones based on the Android operating system. On the right side of the M6 there is a power / lock button, as well as a volume rocker. On the left side, we traditionally have a hybrid tray for two nano SIM cards or one SIM card and micro-SD memory card.

At the top of the smartphone, there is only a hole for an active noise cancellation microphone. But on the bottom edge, we can see the main speaker grill, a micro-USB port and a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, which Meizu does not refuse even under the influence of modern trends, and for which many thanks to her.

Screen

Meizu M6 Note is equipped with a high-quality 5.5-inch IPS-display with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and a pixel density of 403 ppi. Judging by the quality of the screen in comparison with other smartphones of the same price category, we must admit that it turned out to be more than worthy. The colors are bright and at the same time moderately saturated, the colors are reproduced correctly and seem natural. In general, the screen color gamut is very close to sRGB and almost completely repeats the famous triangle.

By default, the average color temperature is set in the smartphone settings, but thanks to a special branded application you can adjust the temperature to colder or warmer shades as you like. The viewing angles are no less pleasing. Although good readability at large viewing angles remains a feature of IPS-matrices, the M6 is particularly pleasing in this regard. Even at the most extreme angles, the picture practically does not fade, does not roll into sheer whiteness. Inverting or purple hues also do not show themselves.

According to the passport data, the maximum brightness of the smartphone should correspond to the level of 450 cd / m2. This is a very good result, but it seemed to us that neither manual mode, nor in the auto adjustment mode, this value is not reached. In bright sun, the screen fades significantly and becomes difficult to read, which should not happen at a brightness of 450 nits. Having looked at the test results from our colleagues, we were able to make sure that, indeed, for many devices the real value of the maximum brightness does not reach the declared value and is on average at about 360-380 nits, which, of course, is not good. Nevertheless, the anti-reflective coating is present and does its job well. So, albeit with reservations, you can still use the M6 Note on a sunny day.

The screen of the M6 Note has no air gap and is fully laminated. The test shows support for multitouch up to ten touches, the display is quite sensitive, pressing is triggered accurately and quickly. There is also a high-quality oleophobic coating, a finger glides on the screen confidently, fingerprints are reluctant to collect on the glass, but even those that accumulate are subsequently very easily removed with a regular napkin.

Performance and autonomy

On the test, we had a Meizu M6 Note M721H 32 Gb and in terms of performance it still managed to please us. As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the M6 has a Qualcomm single-chip system responsible for this parameter, and to be more precise, the Snapdragon 625. And here a very funny situation arises when talking about the performance of a smartphone is very simple and at the same time not. For Meise, this is a completely extraordinary event, the processor is used for the first time on the company's device and this should be covered in detail. On the other hand, this processor has been used for a long time; we have seen it on many other devices. And we, and you already know almost everything that is possible about this "stone". It is difficult to think of what to tell you about him, so that it becomes for you at least a little new information.

In this regard, today we will not list the detailed technical characteristics of the processor, but turn to our subjective feelings from its work on the M6 Note. In the main menu of the smartphone, as expected, everything is pretty smooth. The animations are smooth, the transitions between applications and screens are very fast, while the processor remains practically unloaded in the background. With more complicated tasks, the story is about the same, the video is played without lags, and the smartphone is equally easy to cope with both 720p and 1080p quality. Surfing the Internet is also a pleasure, the phone does not experience problems both in working with one tab, and when working with many open pages, despite its old age in multi-threaded performance, the "stone" is still quite good.

As for gaming applications, then everything is not as perfect as we would like. On the M6 Note, you will not be able to launch any game and set, without hesitation, the maximum graphics settings. In many modern projects, you will have to compromise and choose medium-high quality settings to achieve a stable 60 frames per second. I was very pleased with the opportunity to choose from the modes of maximum and balanced performance in the phone menu, as well as apply a special game mode in which you will not be disturbed by pop-up windows. In the benchmarks, the smartphone did not bring surprises and scored about the same number of points as other devices based on Snapdragon 625. So, in everyone's favorite AnTuTu benchmark, the phone scored 63,378 points, and in Geekbench 4, respectively, 858 points for single-threaded performance and 4243 points in multithreaded mode.

Due to the fact that we have long been accustomed to seeing in Meise phones mainly rechargeable batteries of 3000 or 3200 milliampere hours, the M6 Note was able to surprise us. The reviewed smartphone is equipped with a 4000 milliampere-hour battery, which is quite a lot in modern realities. As soon as we tormented our test device, we managed to discharge it to zero by the end of the day under moderate load only a few times. Basically, under normal operating conditions, the smartphone can easily survive for about a day and a half, and with a more gentle use scenario, the smartphone may well last up to two days. As for testing for a certain type of task, then with the M6 Note you can quite count on 15 hours in reading mode, about 10 hours when watching videos and about 5 and a half hours in modern games.

Multimedia capabilities

In terms of sound, the M6 Note is practically no different from other mid-budget smartphones based on Qualcomm processors. The sound from the external speaker is quite loud, but the lack of stereo makes itself felt. Despite its strength, the sound still turns out to be too flat and does not adequately cover the entire sound range. When using headphones - fortunately, the manufacturer has taken care of the presence of a 3.5 mm jack - the situation is greatly improved. The sound begins to acquire character, it becomes much richer and deeper. For true connoisseurs of music, the M6 Note is hardly suitable, but for those who simply do not mind to lie back on the sofa with their favorite selection of tracks for long evenings, it will do.

Meizu M6 Note's camera is a separate conversation. This time, Meizu decided to keep up with market trends and applied a solution with a dual camera in their new device, and, looking ahead, I would like to say that this solution turned out to be very successful. The main camera is a Sony IMX362 module with a resolution of 12 megapixels, six lenses and an aperture of f / 1.9. The second camera is equipped with a 5 megapixel Samsung 2L7 sensor, has five lenses and an f / 2.0 aperture. As always in duos like this, the responsibility for shooting falls on a stronger, higher resolution camera. At the same time, the second camera is designed to create a high-quality background blur when shooting in portrait mode, and is also designed to help the smartphone increase focus speed in low light conditions.

Considering that Meizu M6 Note belongs to the class of mid-budget devices, then to say that it shoots pretty well is to say nothing. If you look at examples of photos and do not know that they were taken on the M6, then you might well think that they were filmed with a much more expensive camera. The smartphone works great with color and white balance, detail and sharpness are also very high level... But most of all we were surprised by the night shooting. Thanks to high-aperture optics and good focusing, many small details can be seen in the frame, while digital noise is practically absent, which is very unusual for this class of devices. The smartphone also has the ability to manually adjust some parameters. For example, you can fine-tune the shutter speed from one thousandth to 20 seconds, adjust the ISO from 100 to 3200, and also choose the focus and white balance parameters.

The main camera of the M6 Note can record 4K video at 30 frames per second. The quality turns out to be excellent and pleases about the same as the photo. However, here, in contrast to photography, it is much more felt that the smartphone is actually far from a flagship. Due to the lack of stabilization, the picture looks a little shaky, and sound recording is not the best strong point of this unit.

But the front camera did not disappoint at all. It has a resolution of 16 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.0, which is not so often found in devices of this category. Thanks to the high resolution, the image is clear and rich in detail. Of course, there are also various modes for decorating and improving the texture of the face. Selfie lovers will surely be satisfied.

Shell

Meizu M6 Note operates on the basis of the operating system Android 7.1.2 and the proprietary shell Flyme 6. Immediately, we note that talking about software shells is a kind of conversation about tastes, and, as you know, there is no dispute about tastes. The assessment of the shell largely depends not on objective advantages, but on the preferences of specific people or on how much the user is accustomed to a particular shell. So, some stand up for pure Android, while others may not imagine life without Flyme or, for example, MIUI.

Nevertheless, there is no escape from objective reality, and each shell possesses a certain set of qualities. So, Flyme 6 stands out among other software shells by the absence of a separate list of applications, as in many other systems from China, all application icons are placed right on the desktops. The second distinguishing feature of the system, perhaps, is the very wide customization options. You can change almost anything at your discretion: wallpapers, various themes, icon and font sizes, status bar, set up automatic screen activation, and much more.

Flyme 6 supports work in several modes. A simplified mode of operation is available, which increases the size of interface elements and fonts, a child mode, which imposes restrictions on the use of some applications, and a guest mode, which limits the size of traffic and access to personal data. Another advantage of the Meizu shell is the wide range of gestures that can be used to unlock your smartphone, control your music player, launch certain programs and applications, and many other use cases.

On the M6 Note, the proprietary shell works smoothly, everything is fitted and tuned very high quality. During the operation, we did not have any problems with bugs, "brakes" or freezes. You can argue as much as you like about the advantages or disadvantages of competitors' software shells, but what about Flyme Meizu did a great job, it cannot be denied.

You are probably aware that the Meizu M6 Note was recently presented to the public for review. The new smartphone was immediately dubbed a breakthrough for the Chinese company, a bomb that should help the brand to impose a fight on its main competitor - Xiaomi. Main feature Meizu M6 Note has become a processor from Qualcomm. This is not the company's debut Snapdragon smartphone. In early 2015, Meizu presented one of the versions of the M1 Note, which received the Snapdragon 615. After that, the manufacturer used only MediaTek processors in its products, which many users did not like very much.

In many ways, it was the chipset that became the key point, because of which users chose, preferring more nimble hardware to a stylish design. Finally, the pleas were heard - the M6 Note was equipped with the rather popular Snapdragon 625 chip, which belongs to the middle class. But the smartphone is not going to surprise us with a single processor. Meizu M6 Note became the second device of the company (after the recent flagship), which received a dual main camera.

  • On AliExpress, the price of Meizu M6 Note starts at 11,500 rubles for the younger version ( link to the seller with the most orders / lowest price on AliExpress)

On paper, the novelty looks really interesting and promising. But will the smartphone be able to meet all expectations, will it become a worthy competitor for the Xiaomi Redmi Note line and will the company help the company to compete for the Olympus of the middle segment? Today we bring to your attention an overview of the characteristics of the Meizu M6 Note, in which we will analyze every feature of the smartphone, take a look at the price, and also tell you about where it is more profitable to buy a new product.

Meizu M6 Note: specifications

Contents of delivery

The manufacturer did not change the design of the box in which the smartphone is supplied. We get a classic white box with only the brand logo and model name applied. This kind of packaging is used for every budget / mid-range Meizu smartphone. In general, nothing out of the ordinary. The equipment does not stand out either. In addition to the device itself, we see a small envelope containing various documentation. Above, there is a classic manufacturer's tool for removing the SIM card slot. The power adapter, which supports fast charging technology, and a microUSB cable are neatly laid out in their places.

Appearance

Meizu M6 Note is unlikely to surprise users who are already familiar with. Did you hold Meizu M3 Note or M5 Note in your hands? The M6 Note is about the same style. From the front, smartphones are completely indistinguishable. And now the back side makes the M6 Note stand out a little against the background of its predecessors. Firstly, the dual camera catches the eye, and secondly, the LED flash, made in the form of a strip, like the Meizu E2. The design of the model does not shine with delights - this is just one of which we see several pieces every year.

The body is made of metal. The recognizable plastic strips, which the manufacturer did not consider necessary to somehow hide, have not gone anywhere. No, he made them distinct, which sends the M6 Note about a year ago, when these stripes were not so critical. Why not implement them as in, for example. By the way, the M6 Note and Mi 5X are, in fact, competitors, so we recommend taking a look at our recent one.

Meizu M6 Note presented in four colors. There are classic options for gold and silver, black and blue colors are also announced. The latter are still not widely spread, so the guest of our review is dressed in silver. Meizu M6 Note is not the most compact smartphone. It has rather thick bezels around the screen, which makes it quite wide and tall. It can hardly be called ultra-thin - after all, 8.35 mm looks weighty. The same one is thinner by about a millimeter. Although, let's give it credit, the latter has a thinner battery.

The smartphone has a classic arrangement of elements. In front we have a large display, under which the proprietary Home button is located, which at the same time plays the role of a fingerprint scanner. Many people like this key very much - it is really convenient to use. At the top of the Meizu M6 Note, we see the earpiece, front camera and a set of sensors. Let's go over the ends. Below is the main speaker grill, microUSB connector, 3.5 mm headphone port and microphone hole. On the upper end, the hole for an additional microphone is single-handedly located.

The volume rocker and the on / off button are found as standard on the right edge of the device, slightly recessed into the case. On the left we see a combined tray for two SIM-cards (instead of one SIM, you can install a microSD memory card). On the back panel, we see two sensors that differ slightly in size. At the top in the center (exactly along the plastic insert), there is a flash strip of four LEDs.

The design of Meizu M6 Note, which looked at our review, is not surprising, but it does not drive us into a stupor either. The main points were taken over from their predecessors, the rear side underwent some modernization, which received replenishment in the form of another module and a flash with a changed shape. Considering the price for which you can buy the Meizu M6 Note today, you expect something more (for about the same amount you can buy, which looks more interesting in terms of design).

Screen

Especially there is nothing to tell you. The hero of our review in the face of Meizu M6 Note, like the design, borrowed the screen from its predecessors. We have a standard 5.5 inches, the resolution of which is 1920 × 1080 pixels (FullHD). As a result, we get in 401PPI - it will be possible to distinguish individual points if you only look closely at the screen, bringing it close to your eyes. The screen is covered with Meise M6 Note, as well as the entire front part, with 2.5D glass. It is difficult to say how reliable it is, almost nothing is known about its origin. However, during the review, no noticeable scratches appeared on the Meizu M6 Note.

There is an oleophobic coating - it can be characterized by an average level. We saw better, but those smartphones cost more money. The screen has good viewing angles, again, the picture is average in saturation and a sufficient margin of brightness to comfortably use the smartphone on the street. Supports up to 10 simultaneous touches, which will surprise few people. The frames around the display, as already mentioned, are quite wide - the working area occupies something about 70% of the total surface.

What's the bottom line on the screen? It's not perfect, but it's not bad either. Something in between, which, in fact, show many others. At the price of Meizu M6 Note, the screen demonstrates a fairly good result. Although in this segment, in order to find something worse, you have to try.

Performance

Left - Meizu M6 Note; right - Xiaomi Mi 5X

Let's go to the sweetest. As already noted by no resource, the Meizu M6 Note smartphone received a processor from Qualcomm. In my opinion, this event has become more significant for users than the release of the flagship, which is equipped with a second screen. Snapdragon 625 was introduced in the second half of 2016. The processor is positioned as a solution for mid-range smartphones. Built on 8 Cortex-A53 cores, clocked at up to 2 GHz. What differs from the main competitors of MediaTek is a more modern technical process - 14 nm. Thanks to this, the smartphone is not only fast enough, but also has complete order with autonomy.

The Snapdragon 625 is actually hugely popular with smartphone manufacturers. It is installed in the famous Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, it was received by both the huge and stylish Nubia Z11 Mini. And it is not unreasonable because he is given preference to the company. Per graphics capabilities Meizu M6 Note is responsible for the Adreno 506 chip. In short, the hero of our review copes with any user tasks without any problems. Yes, in some games on maximum settings graphs can be seen freezing, so hardcore gamers are advised to choose something more serious. Here, take a look at the options on.

For its characteristics in the synthetic test AnTuTu Meizu M6 Note shows a standard result - about 60,000 points for the version with 3 GB of RAM.

Now let's talk about memory. Meizu M6 Note can be bought in a version with 3 or 4 GB of RAM. For most users, 3 gigs of "operatives" will be enough for all tasks, so do not rush to overpay. You can also choose the amount of storage: here and the minimum 16 GB, and 32 GB, which look the most optimal, and an impressive 64 GB. In addition, the hybrid tray allows you to install microSD cards up to 128 GB instead of a single SIM card. In general, there should be no problems with memory.

As a result, based on the characteristics of the Meizu M6 Note, we have one of (if not the best) smartphone from the company in recent years. Yes, the manufacturer also made good devices on processors from MediaTek, but on Snapdragon, you see, everything looks much better. The smartphone has no performance problems for its price, and the energy efficiency of the chipset is also encouraging.

Interfaces, sound and navigation

The Meizu M6 Note, as noted, is equipped with a hybrid dual SIM tray. Both SIMs must be in nano format. The smartphone works in all known networks, including 4G LTE. It should be noted that band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 are supported. Not everything is so dense with wireless interfaces - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 4.2. Unfortunately, the model did not receive NFC, without which modern smartphone looks somewhat deprived.

Moreover, the solution remained with the old microUSB connector. It is clear that for the price of the Meizu M6 Note, most smartphones still have the same port, but you still expect more from this company. The device supports the OTG function, which allows you to connect various drives and peripherals to it. The two most popular systems are available for navigation - GPS and GLONASS. Thanks to a rather nimble processor, the smartphone quickly finds satellites, even with a cold start.

Meizu M6 Note received a proprietary mTouch button, which, in addition, is a fingerprint scanner. It works smartly, one might say, flawlessly - in general, as usual. The sound of the smartphone is really good, despite the fact that it is equipped with only one main speaker. It's loud, pretty clean, and of high quality.

Meizu M6 Note received everything you need for comfortable work, but at the same time, it would noticeably decorate the smartphone with NFC and the USB-C connector, which, by the way, is equipped with.

Operating system

Meizu M6 Note "out of the box" has operating system Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Naturally, on top of the OS is the proprietary Flyme shell version 6.1.4.1A. The firmware on the Meizu M6 Note, which we have in our review, is global, but only the Alpha version, so there are some flaws. The fonts that are not finished to the mind are striking, in addition, a number of functions refuse to work or function incorrectly. In the near future, Meizu should release a stable firmware for the M6 Note, which will bring fixes.

Even on the Alpha version Flyme smartphone works great. The interface is smooth, and we did not have a chance to contemplate lags, despite diligent attempts. As they say, there are no comrades in taste and color, but the shell from Meizu looks, you see, much more interesting than that of many smartphones from its fellow countrymen. Flyme is simple and straightforward, pretty beautiful and functional. We hope that the normal firmware on Meizu M6 Note will be released soon in order to enjoy its work to the fullest.

You can follow the release of the firmware on the Meizu M6 Note on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum.

Cameras

Fascinated by the Qualcomm processor, we almost forgot that the new product has another rather catchy feature - a dual main camera. At the presentation of the smartphone, by the way, representatives of the company paid special attention to cameras, praising it as one of the best camera phones in the mid-budget segment. On paper, the characteristics of the Meizu M6 Note cameras really look good. Also note that this is the manufacturer's first smartphone in the mid-range segment with a dual camera.

Now, actually, about the sensors. On the back we have a pair of 12 and 5 megapixel sensors. The first sensor is presented by the company - IMX362. Not a bad module, spiced up with an f / 1.9 aperture. The second sensor is already from Samsung - 2L7 with f / 2.0 aperture. It serves here to blur the background so that the user can get stylish photos with bokeh effect. The main camera, forgetting about the additional sensor, in principle, takes good pictures for its price. Not that "Ah!" Is straightforward, but quite useful photographs are obtained. It is clear that the best shots come out during the day or in normal lighting conditions. At night, our guest's camera is frankly weak. Although there is a 4-LED flash located above the eye of the main camera.

The presence of an additional camera in Meizu M6 Note does not fully justify itself. It blurs the background, of course, better than the camera of the same or, but it still does it somehow not quite well. The background is blurred unevenly, and the edges of the object on which the camera is focused are often blurred. In general, while Meizu is not doing very well with dual cameras. However, there is hope that the jambs will be fixed with subsequent firmware updates.

You can record video on a smartphone with a maximum resolution of 4K, no image stabilization is provided. Meanwhile, the videos on the Meizu M6 Note are very good. The picture is rich, the sound is good - quite for its price.

16 megapixel front camera with f / 2.0 aperture. Quite good if you are not one of the overly demanding users. During the day, good selfies are obtained, at night the situation, of course, is much worse. The front camera can record videos at a maximum FullHD resolution.

Generally speaking, the Meizu M6 Note has decent cameras for its price, which probably will not surprise, but will definitely please. It remains to rely on the manufacturer, who is simply obliged to release fixes for the additional sensor.

Autonomy

The Meizu M6 Note is equipped with a serious 4000mAh battery. Together with an efficient chip, the smartphone can do without recharging for 1.5-2 days. What can be said for sure - you will have enough of it for the whole day, even with intensive use. The ability to quickly charge the smartphone is declared, which allows you to fill the battery from 0 to 100% in about 2 hours.

Another characteristic that can be written down in the virtues of the Meizu M6 Note.

Meizu M6 Note: where to buy, price, analogs

In Russia, Meizu M6 Note is about to appear, but the price is already known. The younger version (3 + 16 GB) will cost almost 17,000 rubles, for the middle peasant (3 + 32 GB) you will have to pay almost 19,000 rubles, for the older modification (4 + 64 GB) the manufacturer asks for all 25,000 rubles. It is much more profitable to buy Meizu M6 Note in Chinese online stores, where smartphones are available now.

The main competitor of the Meizu M6 Note will be the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, despite the fact that there is also a fresh Mi 5X. The characteristics of smartphones are comparable, including processor models and battery capacity. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X has only one main camera, and the front camera is weaker. But the smartphone is noticeably cheaper - about 9,000 rubles for the 3 + 32 GB version.

Meizu M6 Note: verdict and review

Of course, the new Meizu smartphone turned out to be worthy. Of course, it's too early to talk about a breakthrough, but the makings are there. The characteristics of Meizu M6 Note make the model really a mid-range smartphone, and the relatively low price, which, moreover, will only decrease over time, turn it into perfect solution for the average user. More than 200,000 smartphones sold are already talking about something.

Should you chase your smartphone for the Snapdragon 625? To be honest, in everyday tasks (Internet surfing, instant messengers, calls, casual games, etc.), you can hardly find the difference between the Meizu M5 Note (MediaTek Helio P10) and the M6 Note. But the latter feels more confident in demanding games thanks to a faster processor. In addition, the Snapdragon 625 is built on a more advanced technical process, which gives us extra minutes autonomous work. In general, if you do not depend on the newest resource-intensive games, and more frequent charging does not bother you, then there is no particular point in buying an M6 Note. Moreover, now you can buy Meizu M5 Note significantly cheaper.

To summarize under the review of the Meizu M6 Note, it is worth leaving a personal review. In general, the smartphone pleased me. Not a direct "wow", but one of the few Meise devices in recent years, which is really difficult to scold. The Meizu M6 Note is a good working device that now has everything for this title. Another thing is that the smartphone is still expensive and the firmware on the M6 Note is not yet normal. In a month or two, when the manufacturer releases an update, and the price drops slightly, the device may well break into the top sales.
