For example, we play with my wife, she also has a profile set up, but she does not have PS Plus. Accordingly, her saves are stored only on the PS4, they are not in the cloud. If I had just replaced the PS4's hard drive, we would have lost them - all her Persians in Diablo 3, LBP 3, etc. So, it is better to transfer the most important saved files to a separate flash drive (not the one with which the firmware will be installed), moreover, from each profile separately.
2. Downloading the firmware from the official PlayStation website was not easy. The fact is that there are, in fact, two files: full firmware and updating the firmware to the current one. Both files are named PS4UPDATE, and the link to both files says "download update". The only difference is that the firmware update takes 200-something megabytes, and the entire firmware is about 900 megabytes (there are 830-something, but it can take more on a flash drive, so you need a flash drive of at least 1 gigabyte to update).
The funniest thing is that following the link to official page with the firmware, the largest button leads exactly to the update, which will not allow the PS4 to start from the new HDD.
