Problem: bought Xiaomi phone Mi4c, in which the firmware was installed with a partial Russian translation, a bunch of advertisements and some inoperable menu items.

As far as I know, this is a common situation with this model. this phone model is not intended for the Russian market. Therefore, they bring it in and sew whatever it is. And then users either suffer, or shovel the Internet in search of simple instructions and the firmware itself.

This is not the first time I have done this on my first phone, and I understand the pain of my unfortunate colleagues. Therefore, I prepared another simple instruction.

The first step is to install the firmware with the unlocked bootloader:
  1. Install Mi PC Suite on your computer (download) so that the necessary drivers are installed.
  2. Download and install MiFlash. During installation, you need to install all the drivers. Windows will issue warnings about the absence digital signature- do not pay attention - install.
  3. Download the firmware with an unlocked bootloader and unzip it to any disk in the root directory.
  4. We put the phone into Fastboot mode - turn off the phone, then hold down and hold the volume down + the power button until the Fastboot logo appears).
  5. We connect the phone to the computer with a cable, if not already connected.
  6. In MiFlash, click Refresh. The device should appear.
  7. Click Browse and select the folder with the unzipped firmware.
  8. Next to the Browse button, click on the triangle and click Advanced ...
  9. Next to the FastBoot Script field, click Browse ... and select the flash_all.bat file in the folder with the unzipped firmware.
  10. Press Enter on the keyboard to save the setting.
  11. Click Refresh.
  12. Press Flash - the firmware has started.

It usually takes about 100 seconds. Then the first download is long - about 5 minutes.

This firmware only has Chinese and english languages... Therefore, next we need to install a custom recovery instead of the native one, through which it will be possible to install almost any firmware later.

Now let's install a custom Recovery that will allow you to install any firmware:
  1. Download TWRP 2.8.7.3 and unpack it to the root of any disk.
  2. We put the phone into Fastboot mode - we just did this (see above) and connect it to the computer with a cable.
  3. Run the 2.bat file.
  4. After the process is complete, you will be prompted to press any key. Click. Ready
And finally, let's install the most popular firmware from Xiaomi.eu
  1. You can download the latest version. Download specifically for Mi4c
  2. We enter Recovery - with the phone turned off, we hold the volume up button + power on.
  3. We make there wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache.
  4. Restart Recovery. To do this, go to the main recovery menu, choose Reboot - Recovery.
  5. Connect the cable to the phone from the PC. If the phone is not displayed on the computer, "mount" the storage manually. To do this, the main menu of the recovery:
    - select mount
    - check the boxes for data
  6. Throw the firmware downloaded in the first paragraph into the phone in the form in which it was downloaded (you do not need to unzip anything, etc.).
  7. Restart Recovery again.
  8. Click Install, select the firmware file and make a swipe for the firmware.
  9. After installation, we do wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache.
  10. Reboot - System. The first launch is long again.

If everything is done as written, it should work out.

First, you need to find and download the file with the firmware itself. You can take it:

  1. On the official Xiaomi website - http://en.miui.com/download-240.html, where several latest versions are posted at once official firmware based on Android.
  2. Custom modified options from xiaomi.eu and miui.su. You can download the version from miui.su in.

In addition, to reflash your smartphone, you will need root rights (we discussed how to get them in a separate article), as well as a program for automatic flashing and TWRP Recovery.

Xiaomi Mi4 firmware: procedure

Reflashing Xiaomi Mi 4 is quite simple. For comparison - with smartphones from HTC, you often need to fool your head much longer. With Xiaomi Mi4, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Install custom recovery:
  • Turn off your phone and start it in fastboot mode(simultaneously hold down the power key + volume down button).
  • Connect the computer to the phone via the original USB cable, run the required file with the * .bat resolution, before unpacking it yourself. The files cwm.bat and twrp.bat install the required recovery, and stock.bat will allow you to return to the phone's native recovery later. Follow the instructions written on the screen.
  • Boot into the installed custom recovery by simultaneously pressing the power and volume buttons up.

  1. Flash the smartphone, after making a backup of all data: boot into custom recovery (in this case TWRP), select "Install" and find the firmware archive you need to install with the .zip resolution. Attention! Before that, you may need to merge two system partitions into one (in the case of Marshmallow firmware).

Also, in order to avoid errors during the firmware process, we recommend that you take the following steps:

  • In Recovery, select "Wipe" or "Advanced Wipe".
  • Next, mark "Cache", "Data», "Dalvik / ART Cache", "System", « Internal Storage» (last action will delete all user data from the microSD card).
  • Please select "Advanced""Fix Contexts".

Sometimes, in order to fix an error that popped up at an inopportune moment, you can fix it by renaming the firmware to "Miui.zip”, However, it is best to follow the steps above.

While all the system files are being flashed, the phone cannot be disconnected from the PC and generally it is advisable not to touch it. After the operation is completed, the phone may take a long time to turn on for the first time - don't be afraid. The process can take 15, 20 or even 30 minutes, and several reboots during phone startup are also possible - this is quite normal.

If you have easily coped with the previous points, this one will seem quite simple to you. You need to drop the archive onto the memory card, which is also flashed via Recovery.

The firmware practically does not "eat" the battery - for 8 hours at night the battery can lose a maximum of 1% of the charge. Operating system works quickly, which makes it incredibly happy - it seemed like there was nowhere better, but Xiaomi was pleasantly surprised by the increase in the speed of work.

In general, new MIUI firmware more and more new interesting "chips" appear, for example, cloning programs and so on. The operating system is very good, configurable, and its style is consistent and pleasing to the eye.

The line of Xiaomi Mi devices is considered the flagship of the Chinese manufacturer, so all devices that come out under the name Xiaomi Mi can be considered flagships. One of the worst smartphones of this line can be considered Xiaomi Mi 4, which was released in the not so distant 2014. In terms of characteristics, the phone was not inferior to the flagships of that time - Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Alpha, Nexus 5, LG G3 and so on, but at the same time it cost significantly less than the listed models, which made it a bargain. You can even say that even now the phone will look not much worse than modern budget phones, and in some ways even better. Even now, in 2018, the phone continues to receive MIUI updates, not to mention custom firmwares, including Android Oreo from the very latest version 8.1. And so smoothly we approached the topic of this article - the firmware of Xiaomi Mi 4. We will analyze the firmware of the device for the latest official version MIUI 9.2 and tell you a little about custom firmware and how to install it. Let's stop dragging out the introduction and go directly to the instructions for the Xiaomi Mi 4 firmware.

Xiaomi Mi 4 firmware for the official MIUI

Give credit to Xiaomi, because the Xiaomi Mi 4 firmware is a very simple process that anyone can handle. Of course, if this is your first time at a computer and you don't even know what drivers are, then you shouldn't deal with these right away, but if you more or less understand how everything works in your computer, then you are welcome. Xiaomi firmware is not only an easy process, but also a unified one! Almost all Xiaomi smartphones are flashed with one program and the same drivers are needed. Mi 4, like any other Xiaomi smartphone, can be flashed to the official MIUI through the MIUI Rom Flashing Tool or MiFlash for short, and this is very convenient program... At least by the fact that it installs all the necessary drivers on its own and all you have to do is connect your phone to your computer in fastboot mode and click on the "Flash" button. Another clarification: the Xiaomi Mi 4 smartphone does not require unlocking the bootloader for flashing via MiFlash, which greatly speeds up and simplifies the process itself, so we can go directly to the firmware. It remains only to download the firmware itself, and to do this, follow the link and download the latest firmware.

The process itself

First, we need to turn off the phone and boot it in fastboot mode, for this we need to hold down the "power" and "volume -" buttons at the same time. After that, the phone will boot into fastboot mode, showing a similar picture:

We connect the phone to the computer (it is advisable to do this through the supplied cable) and wait for the phone to be detected by the system. After that, in the MiFlash program, click on the "Refresh" button (highlighted in yellow) and your device should appear in the list of devices.

Now you need to extract the downloaded firmware, preferably using WinRAR or 7Zip. Create a folder at the root of the C: drive and extract the firmware there. Copy the address to the folder with the firmware and paste it into the field highlighted in blue.

Now we press the "flash" button to start the firmware. The process may take several minutes, and the first boot of the device takes 5 to 15 minutes, please be patient.

As you can see, the process is very easy and does not take much time, most likely you will download the firmware longer than directly flashing it.

Custom firmware for Xiaomi Mi 4

Here everything will not be so simple, but I will try to explain everything as easily as possible. You will need to download the archive (link) with the necessary tools and unpack it to the root of the C: drive.

You need to start the phone in fastboot mode (power + volume down), and connect the phone to the computer.

First you need to flash custom recovery, and for this we will use the command Windows string... You can run it through the "Run" program, to start it press Win + R and enter "сmd". As necessary tools we are in the root of the C drive in the Android folder, then we need to go there, and for this we enter the command CD C: \ Android

To check the connection of your smartphone, you can enter the command fastboot devices and your phone should be displayed in the window.

To flash the recovery, you need to enter the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, where "recovery.img" is the name of the recovery file, which you can replace with your own.

After installing custom recovery, be sure to boot into it. To do this, hold down the "volume +" and "power" buttons.

For firmware in the recovery itself, you need to make wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache and only then install custom firmware in the "Install" section.

As you can see, the process of installing custom firmware is much more complicated than installing MIUI, and I would recommend just installing a fresh version of MIUI and not bothering with custom firmware.
