At the very top of the page are the latest world news. News headlines are underlined, which means they are active links. That is, by clicking on any heading, you will be taken to a page with more detailed description announced event or incident. Active links can be made in different ways: when you click on a link, a new page opens in new tab(then a narrow rectangle of this tab appears at the top) or a new page opens instead of the one you were viewing. If the page is not opened in a new tab, then return to previous page you can use the left arrow in the green circle in the left upper corner screen.

After reading the news, return to the main page of Yandex. By the way, you can return to the Yandex home page by clicking on the Yandex site logo. This rule applies to almost all sites that you will visit in the future.

For example, on the site Petersburg pensioner"you can always return to the main page by clicking on the logo, which in this case located along the top edge and consists of three lines, including site name, photo feed and online magazine category.

Topics, sections of the Yandex website are written above the yellow search bar. Click on the word "More", the drop-down menu shows a more detailed list of sections. Each section name is also an active link that you can click on and see the pages that open.

The registration process is very simple, with the only exception - it is difficult to choose a name for the page. The difficulty here is that at the beginning of 2001 more than 200 thousand sites were registered. And this means that it will no longer be possible to choose a short and sonorous name. Of course, you can try, but note that in most dictionaries the number of words is two to three times less.

But still, for the first step to be done, you can choose any word to initialize the registration process on the server. To do this, enter your favorite word or phrase in the input field (only Latin characters, numbers and a number of characters) and click on the button Borrow.

After that, you will be taken to the registration page (Fig. 3.3), where you will need to enter your personal data. Please note that in order to be able to register with the server, your browser (browser) must be allowed to execute JavaScript scripts and accept cookies.

Before filling in all the fields of the registration form, you need to check: is it possible to use the word (login) you entered on the server (not all characters are allowed in the name), whether the selected address is free. Note that many sonorous names are reserved for public use.

Click on the hyperlink to check your variant Verify. Most likely, if a short and sonorous word is selected, you will receive an error message:

Don't worry and pick up some other combination of words and numbers or a very long name. If your name is approved, then the answer will be:

In the fields Password And Confirm password enter a string of characters, which must be at least 4 ( best option password - 8-10 characters). For a password, always use the Latin alphabet, numbers and printable characters. The use of Cyrillic will almost certainly result in the loss of access to your page (due to technical problems with transcoding on your computer and server).

It is not advisable to use any common words or names for the password, such as pass, login, name, sex, etc. To simplify remembering the password, you can use Russian words typed when English layout keyboards. But, mind you, do not use Russian names in Latin execution, for example, Dima (Lbvf), Ivan (Bdfy), and especially your own. It is better to come up with a combination of short words with numbers. You will find detailed information about passwords and Internet security in the next chapter.

The most essential step when filling out the registration form is the indication of your personal data:

The fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory, and the rest, if desired, can be left blank.

When specifying personal information, the following points should be taken into account. Although you are required to tell the truth and only the truth, no one is required to provide a real postal address and last name. In most cases, when creating, for example, an entertainment site, it is better to indicate a pseudonym, and not your last name. Specify your postal address only to the city of residence, and the apartment number, and even more so home phone, not recommended.

Note

The Narod.Ru server does not yet require full personal information, but everything can change. Perhaps you will use another public server to host a site where, in all seriousness, they will even require your passport number.

Note that if your goal is to create a personal page with a resume, then when registering, you must provide genuine personal data. But still, even in this case, when specifying the postal address, it is recommended to limit yourself to the name of your city and microdistrict.

An electronic postal address (E-mail) is also included in the list of required information. If you don't have one, then enter the address of one that hasn't been created yet. mailbox on the Yandex server - [email protected]. You can do this because by registering in any Yandex service, you automatically reserve the same name (login) for yourself in all the others. In some cases, it is the extraterrestrial sphere of interest that is the decisive argument in favor of one or another candidate for a prestigious vacancy.

Main page

Any website starts with a main page named index.htm or index.html. This web page is always searched for by default browsers (browsers) unless a specific file name is specified. There can be as many web pages as you like: one, two, three, ten, one hundred ... In principle, you can limit yourself to one page with the summary text, but it’s better, especially since Yandex will help you with this, to make several pages: the main one is yours " a business card, a resume page, and, say, a page with photos of your pet cat or dog.

Let's choose, for example, the template Simple, which suits well enough for our purposes of presenting oneself to the employer (Figure 3.6). It is quite often used for sites with resumes, because the visitor does not have to search for navigation elements for a long time - buttons with the names of other sections of the site. But you can choose any other template to your taste. Note that in the future you can replace the template, because adjusting the design of pages created with their help is very simple and does not require a complete rework of what you have created.

The first step in the page creation process is that you are prompted to choose a background color, that is, the main color (paper color) of the page on which you will write. To do this, move the mouse pointer over the rectangle with the color palette. Left clicking on the color you want will be your choice (the square on the right will take that color).

The most significant in terms of achieving your goal is the item What is the site about. Here you need to seriously think about how to write. A silly or non-cultural name will only attract strawberry lovers. An illiterate sentence will create a not too good opinion about you. Therefore, if you do not find an interesting or original title, limit yourself to either - Personal site Ivan Ivanovich, or something neutral: Resume, Looking for a job etc.

The title of your page will be in the form of a title. The color, size and style of the letters can be selected in the fields below. It is not recommended to choose a font size that is too large or small. The text should read against the background of your choice. If you don't have favorite color combinations, then take a look at Chapter 19 "Psychological Tests" (read the "Web Design" section first, and then turn to the tests themselves).

Under the heading is a text that should explain to the guest where he got to. You can put, for example, a small piece of your resume (only not personal data). A few phrases about the reasons for creating the site are well received. In fact, there are countless options, so it all depends on your personality and your ability to succinctly state the essence of what you want to say.

Font parameters are set in the same way as for the title. But the size of the pin should be 3-4 times smaller. Firstly, this is a rather large text that will be inconvenient to read one word per line, and secondly, you highlight a secondary part of the information on your page. Perhaps the visitor will read the title, and then pay attention to the hyperlinks leading to your other pages. Very busy people, to whom employers belong, usually have no time to thoroughly study everything that is located on the personal page of a possible candidate for a vacancy. It is often enough to look at the title and follow one hyperlink to decide: not needed… Now, if you manage to interest your guest in something, then perhaps he will even want to read what you wrote, or, in our case, instruct the personnel department to find out more about you. So everything that you post on the site can play a positive or negative role.

The next step is to create links to other web pages. These could be your pages on people, that you haven't created yet, but plan to do so. Maybe you have a site on other servers that can recommend you from the right side. Sometimes you can link to the websites of your referees or the company where you work or have worked. True, you need to carefully weigh all the factors so as not to get into a mess. The only thing to note is that you shouldn't link from your first page to well-known servers, and in particular to directories and search engines. If you still want to create your own link directory, then place it on one of the internal pages of your site, making an unambiguous link to it. When referring to internal pages your site in the address field is not the full URL desired page, but just the filename with extension (unless you're creating directories). A drop-down menu can help you, in which there are names of standard people or your existing pages.

It is possible to create an almost unlimited number of links, although the default template offers fields for five. But you should always be moderate, especially when using a template. Two or three links in the title are enough to keep your home page simple and informative for the employer. Additional links are best done in the text or at the end of the page.

The next important step is the choice Link Color, Visited Link Color And Active link color. Try to pick up those colors that will not be lost on the background color. You can even choose one color for all links, because your site's job is to attract a buyer of your workforce, not easy site navigation or the Internet!

Checkbox Show title "Home" can be installed, because in our case this is not a minus for the design. Moreover, at any time you can change the design of the page using the editing functions.

To confirm that the web form is completed, click on the button Ready.

If desired, it is always possible to go back at all stages of working with the template using the button Change design. This is one of the nice features of the templates offered on the server. People.

Summary

Having created the main page, you should start building a web page with a resume. Of course, you can do the opposite, but the "face" of your site will set a certain style for all other pages. First of all, this concerns the color scheme and style of the text. It happens that, having developed the main page, the webmaster redoes the entire project. And since most Russians are faced with the problem of paying for the Internet, the construction plan proposed in the book is the most reasonable. It should only be noted that it is assumed that you have prepared texts and files for placement on web pages, which will not be difficult for you to do by reading this chapter to the end (you will learn how to write a resume in chapter 10).

Just do not make the most common mistake - choosing a template by its name. Take a closer look at the icons with images of the proposed templates. Maybe you recognize a design you liked before that you came across when you were looking through pages with other people's resumes. If you still hesitate, you can’t make your choice, then remember that the design of the template is always easy to change. Problems can only arise when you have corrected your web page in an HTML editor and uploaded it to the server.

The next step, note that it is the most responsible, is to fill out a web form with your personal information. Any mistake in the data you entered can lead to negative results - your resume will work against you. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to prepare the text for all fields in advance in the MS Word word processor. Middle name.

Year of birth - enter four digits, not two.

Marital status - be brief, but don't make the reader puzzle over tricky one- or two-letter abbreviations.

Address - it is not advisable to indicate the number of the house and apartment, because your page is available to everyone.

Phone - Use your phone number only if there is no other way to contact you.

E-mail - it is best to specify the address of your mailbox on the provider's server, and not on a public server.

Your photo - you must specify the full path to the file on your hard drive, but it is more convenient to do this by clicking on the button Overview.

The goal is to be very clear about what kind of job you want to find because the employer doesn't have time to figure out what you want.

Work experience - indicate only what can confirm your claims to occupy the job for which you are applying.

Education - Information in this field should confirm your qualifications.

Additional information - here, indicate the information about you that the employer is most interested in, for example, whether you have a driver's license.

Sample Classical does not provide additional features on the design of your resume, so you can click on the button Ready, so that your resume page is submitted to the server.

Other templates offer additional tools for decorating your resume, such as choosing a color and font style, or whether or not to show a standard headline. Therefore, carefully review the web form so that you do not miss important details, as it always takes a long time to correct.

Attention!

Don't forget to delete your resume when you get a permanent job. Otherwise, your new boss may think that you are not going to work for him for a long time, and this may adversely affect your career.

Photo album

The previous sections covered how to create the required pages for your job search goal. But, as you will learn in later chapters, you need to create a certain image for yourself that will help you in the interview, and in the selection of the resume will testify in your favor. A page that talks about your interesting hobby is best suited for this. For example, engaging in rational sports greatly increases your chances of being hired as a radio engineer or a ship's radio operator. A motorsport enthusiast will be happy to be hired by car dealerships. But, for example, a collector of beer labels may think that he likes to drink, although it also happens that he does not take alcohol in his mouth.

On the other hand, in the cases listed above, you can get the exact opposite result - they can hire a lover of beer labels, and the athlete will be immediately rejected. Note that talking about your hobby in your resume should be very careful and balanced. In addition, to create a good page with a story, for example, about your aquarium fish, excellent knowledge of web design is required.

The problem of an additional story about yourself is most simply solved when using a template Photo album. Surely you have enough good photos which can be scanned and posted on the website. In addition, photo scanning is no longer an exotic affair. Even more, you can use another Yandex service (Fig. 3.8).

Before you select a template, you need to prepare files with photos that will be hosted on the server. This procedure should be given as much attention as possible, because you will have to solve two difficult problems: choosing photographs that are really useful for your characterization and preparing graphic files.

The first problem is solved quite simply: look through your photo albums and select the photos you need. Be sure to consult with relatives or friends - a look from the outside will allow you to remove obviously unnecessary pictures from the collection. It is possible that, for example, your wife (you should always ask permission from the person who is photographed) does not want to be viewed on the Internet. It is also not recommended to post your childhood photos, and even more so of infancy - the employer is not interested in what kind of prodigy you were as a child! It is best when the photos are not older than 2-3 years. After all, your luck may turn against you when the personnel department asks why you posted very, very old photos, or, God forbid, a photo of your friend or movie actor, passing them off as yourself. Note that this practice is very common on the Internet, but it is absolutely not suitable for a site with a resume.

Photos posted on web pages are stored on the server as graphic files. Unfortunately, the files that you receive after scanning are most often not suitable for the Internet in two ways - format and size.

First, the graphic files must be in the JPG (JPEG) format, which is well suited for artistic photographs, although the image quality in it is worse than in other popular formats. Secondly, it is better to optimize the image for a resolution of 800x640, which will reduce the file size, and it will be easier for the browser to work with it (it may simply not be enough random access memory to decrypt the graphic file). Third, when creating the file, use maximum compression information, which again reduces its size (though at the expense of quality). If you do everything right, then the size of your graphic files will be in the range from 15 to 35 KB. Note that the smaller the better.

Of course, if you want to show off a great photo, but the size of the graphic file is more than 100 KB, then you need to make a separate page for it. It is best to link to this page as an icon and indicate next to it what size the graphic file is. Only in this case, you can count on the positive effect of posting such a photo on your website.

Note

All recommendations are given not for a professional webmaster who can use his proven methods, but for a user who has very limited technical capabilities for processing a scanned image.

To continue the story, we will assume that a certain set of graphic files is already on your hard drive. And if so, then you can start building Photo album. To do this, select one of the templates and click on the button Farther.

Note

The template type does not affect the loading time of the finished page from the server Photo album.

On the page Workshop / Photo album editing(photoalbum.html) you first need to specify which photos will be in the photo album. Note that the authors of the template managed to find a rather successful solution to the problem of embedding motley drawings and photographs into a web page, but, as one would expect, it imposes certain restrictions that must be taken into account (other templates may be developed).

When using the proposed templates, you must remember that in order to display a page created using these templates, the browser needs to download from the server all the graphic files that you specified when creating it.
