How to set up a D-Link Wi-Fi router: step by step instructions. Configuring WiFi router D-Link dir300 ("gray" interface) How d link works

Router connection Take the router out of the box and install it in a place convenient for you. Plug the supplied power adapter into the corresponding socket on the back of the router and into a 220V outlet. Connect the main network cable (the one that was led to your apartment when connected to the K-Telecom network) to the INTERNET port, and connect the supplied network cable to one of the numbered LAN ports on the back of the router, and the other end to the network card computer. You do not need the installation disc that comes with the router. Important: Do not plug the main network cable into the numbered LAN ports. This will disrupt communication throughout the home.

Configuring the router Open a separate tab in the browser, enter the address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and press the Enter key on your keyboard. Going to this address, we see the "Authorization" window for entering the password for authorization when entering the web interface of the router.

In order to change the language of the router settings, you must click on the "Language" button and select the "Russian" item.

In the line "Username" and in the line "Password" enter the word "admin" in Latin (English) small (capital) letters without quotes. Then we press "Enter" on the screen, or press the Enter key on the keyboard.

To set up an Internet connection, select the "Advanced settings" item.

In the window that appears, the current connection is presented, which is set on the default router, in order to configure the Internet connection, click on the "Add" button.

Initially, select "Connection Type" - "L2TP + Dynamic IP".

Next, we go down to the bottom of the settings window and fill in the fields "Username", "Password", "Password confirmation" (data from the contract), also in the "VPN server address" field, enter "172.16.0.1". We check the correctness of the entered data and click "Save".

After saving the settings of the newly created Internet connection, you must save the configuration settings on the router. To do this, click on the light bulb in the upper right corner of the window, and then on the word "Save".

If all the data was entered correctly, then after refreshing the page you will be able to see that the connection to the Internet on the router is established and now you need to configure wi-fi to do this, click on the left arrow.

WI-FI setting To set up a wireless connection in the advanced settings menu, select the item WI-FI, "Basic settings".

In the "SSID" field, you must enter the name of the wireless network, whatever is convenient for you, the main thing is that it should be entered in Latin characters and / or numbers. After entering, click on the "Apply" button, the rest of the parameters can be left by default.

In order to prevent unauthorized persons from connecting to your wireless network, you need to configure the network security. To do this, select "Security Settings" in the WI-FI menu of the advanced settings window.

In the window that appears, in the network authentication field, select "WPA2-PSK".

The "PSK Encryption Key" field is the password for your wireless network, you can write there any sequence of Latin characters and / or numbers.

This manual will describe in detail how to configure the D-Link DIR-300 Wi-Fi router. In particular, we'll talk about how to update the firmware on a router and why it is sometimes required, how to set up an Internet connection and what types of connection are used by different providers. It will also cover issues such as setting up a wireless Wi-Fi access point, how to put a password on a wireless network and connect various devices. At the same time, a video tutorial on setting up a DIR-300 router will be offered.

Wireless router (Wi-Fi router) D-Link DIR-300

Update: if your router has firmware 2.5.11 or 2.15.19 (in general, 2.5.x), and the settings interface is similar to the screenshot below, use this instruction:.

Things to do before setting up your router (router)

Even before you connect the router for its subsequent configuration, I recommend downloading the latest firmware file for your hardware revision.

What is hardware revision? Despite the common name of routers and the same appearance, D-Link DIR-300 are different. Here is a list of those that can be found on sale today:

  • DIR-300 A / C1
  • DIR-300NRU B5 / B6
  • DIR-300NRU B7

The hardware version of the router on the sticker

Each of them requires its own firmware. The hardware revision of the router is indicated on the sticker on its back, in the line H / W ver. In order to download the firmware for the router, you should go to the official D-Link website at ftp.dlink.ru, and follow the following path: pub - Router - your router model (DIR-300 or DIR-300NRU) - Firmware - hardware revision of the router. The folder in which you find yourself will contain one bin file and the "Old" folder. The mentioned file is the latest firmware for your device, and it should be downloaded to your computer. The Old folder contains old firmware for the router, which can also come in handy in some cases (unstable work on the new firmware).

The next action that is recommended to take before configuration is to reset the existing D-Link DIR-300 settings (if you have already tried to configure something yourself or it was configured for another Internet provider). To do this, use the Reset button located on the back of the router: hold it down for 20-30 seconds, release it and wait about 30 seconds until the router reboots with factory settings.

And one more thing: in order to get into the settings panel of the router, in the properties of the local network connection, "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain a DNS server address automatically" should be set. You can find these parameters in the following places:

  • Windows 8 and 7 - "Control Panel" - "Network and Sharing Center" - "Change adapter settings" - "Local Area Connection" (right-click, properties) - "Internet Protocol version 4" - "Properties".
  • For Windows XP, the path is similar, the only thing is, in the control panel, go to the "Network Connections" folder, and already there, look at the properties of a local network connection.

In some cases and for some providers (Interzet, various providers providing services to legal entities), the parameters that were recorded in the properties of the local network connection (IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS servers) should be recorded somewhere. Even a little differently: if something was indicated in all these fields, then be sure to write down this data.

Despite the fact that connecting a router, it would seem, should not cause any difficulties, you often see incorrect options. This is due to the fact that even with an incorrect connection, you can achieve, for example, that one computer has the Internet and at the same time digital TV works. However, it does not become correct from this, and devices connected via Wi-Fi will report that "The connection is limited or not available" or "Without access to the Internet." The correct connection option is in the picture below.

Thus, the cable of your Internet provider (or the cable coming from the modem, if you have one) must be connected to the Internet port and only to it. The network card is connected to one of the LAN ports of the router using the supplied RJ-45 cable (standard network cable).

DIR-300 firmware

First of all, a little about why it is better to update the router's firmware than not:

  • The DIR-300 router you bought in the store most likely has one of the first firmware versions. The manufacturer, in our case it is D-Link, regularly releases new versions in which various errors affecting the operation of the device are corrected (disconnections, the router cuts the speed, the settings get lost). Therefore, by updating the firmware before configuring the router, you can avoid many problems.
  • The firmware of the router itself does not present any particular difficulties and is available to anyone, even a "teapot". The main thing is that there is a normal leadership. This is exactly what you see in front of you.

The first step (provided that the router is already connected) is to launch any Internet browser on the computer and enter the following address in the address bar: 192.168.0.1, then press Enter.

You will be asked to enter a username and password. The standard login and password for all D-Link DIR-300s is admin (i.e. we write the same thing in both fields - admin). After logging in, you will be asked to change the default password for security purposes. Do this so that no one else can change the settings of your wireless router.

The next thing you will see is the router configuration interface, which, depending on the hardware revision and the current firmware, may have a different appearance.

This manual does not cover setting up DIR-300 B1-B3 (they are quite old and their owners, as a rule, have already learned how to set them up). Therefore, we will consider how to update the firmware in the last two options.

  1. For firmware 1.3, go to "Configure manually", select the "System" tab, and already in it - update the software. Then you should click "Browse", specify the path to the new firmware file (how to download the new firmware was described earlier)
  2. For firmware 1.4, you need to select the "Advanced settings" item, then on the "System" tab, click the right arrow (shown there), select the Software update item, then click "Browse" and specify the path to the new firmware file.
  3. Press the "Update" button

After that, it remains only to wait for the end of the router firmware process.

How to set up a connection

The essence of setting up routers, including the D-Link DIR-300, is for the router itself to initialize the Internet connection, distributing it to all other connected devices. The settings for this connection in the router interface are the main required action.

It should also be noted that when setting up the router, as well as after it, the previously used connection on the computer should no longer be connected. Those. if earlier on the computer you launched the connection of Beeline, Rostelecom, Aist, TTK, Dom.ru or any other, now you do not need to do this, otherwise, because the connection has already been established directly by the computer, the router, most likely, will not be able to establish it (in some cases, it is possible that several parallel connections work, but for most home Internet tariffs it will not).

Let's move on to setting up the connection. On the main page of the router settings at the bottom, click "Advanced settings", then on the "Network" tab, select "WAN" and click "Add" at the bottom of the page, which will display one connection with a dynamic IP address.

Now our task is to correctly fill in all the fields correctly, while the correctness is determined by what type of connection your provider uses:

  • Online - Dynamic IP, i.e. You don't even need to set up anything in the connection, the only thing you should take care of is the Wi-Fi password, which will be discussed below.
  • Beeline - L2TP + Dynamic IP
  • Interzet - Static IP
  • Rostelecom, Domolink, TTK, Dom.ru - PPPoE
  • Stork - PPTP + Dynamic IP

Information about what type of connection your Internet provider uses can be easily found on the official website or you can see the properties of the connection that was used on the computer to access the Internet.

In most cases, all that needs to be filled in besides the type of connection is the login and password that you received from the service provider, as well as the VPN server address for providers using a PPTP or L2TP connection.

After that, click "Save". And we find ourselves on the page with the newly created connection, which, as we are shown, is "broken". Also, on the top right, you will see an indicator informing us that the router settings have been changed and now they need to be saved (a second time). You should do this - otherwise, after restarting the router or when the power is turned off, all settings will be reset. Refresh the netlist page. If you configured everything correctly, without confusing the password or connection type, it will turn green and the Internet will become available. You can proceed to setting up a wireless Wi-Fi network.

Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot

In order to configure the wireless network (in fact, it is already working, but it would be better if you name it somehow and put a password on Wi-Fi), again go to the advanced settings page of the DIR-300 router and on the Wi- Fi click on the link "Basic settings".

On the page that appears, you can specify the name of the access point SSID, by which you will recognize your wireless network among neighbors. You can also change other parameters here, but in most cases this is not required. Save the settings.

After that, on the same Wi-Fi tab, select "Security Settings". Here we can put a password on the D-Link DIR-300 Wi-Fi router. To do this, select WPA2-PSK in the "Network authentication" field, and enter the desired password for the access point in the "PSK encryption key" and save the settings.

That's all, the DIR-300 router can be considered configured, now you can connect to it any devices that support a Wi-Fi connection, as well as a local network. If you are using digital television, then on the main settings page in the "IPTV settings" item, specify one of the ports as dedicated for TV and connect a set-top box to it.

Routers under the D-Link brand are among the most popular in Russia. Their main advantages are low price, reliability, provision of a sufficiently high speed of Internet access.

Particularly popular in the Russian Federation are the D-Link DIR series routers: 620, 2640U, 320, 615, 300, equipped with a Wi-Fi module. In turn, the D-Link DIR 2500U device is popular among wired devices. How is the D-Link DIR router configured, depending on the modification? Are there any noticeable differences in working with devices of different series?

It can be noted that, regardless of which specific modification the router released by D-Link belongs to, the device is configured using similar algorithms. At the same time, setting the necessary options when working with almost any modem of the D-Link series is a fairly simple procedure. However, there are specific features for each device. And therefore, we investigate them, studying the specifics of working with each device of the marked series.

Router D-Link 620

Let's look at how the D-Link 620 router is configured. Within the framework of this guide, we will connect the Internet, which is accessed via an Ethernet channel. First of all, therefore, we connect the appropriate cable to the appropriate port on the router.

The next step is to configure the software part of the connection interface on the PC. To do this, you need to enter the "Control Panel" of the Windows operating system, then select "Network Connections". Then we find the network card (or select the one that is used to connect to the Internet), press the right mouse button, select "Properties". Next - left-click on the item "TCP / IP Protocol". We select "Properties". We set the settings "automatically" at all points.

The next step is to connect the PC's network card and one of the free ports of the router using an Ethernet cable (this type of cable is typical when connecting to the Internet via a network card).

Next, open a window of any browser, for example, Internet Explorer, Opera or Google Chrome - it doesn't matter, the functionality of the required interface does not depend on the type of program used. We enter the following command in the address bar - 192.168.0.1, press the Enter key. After that, the user enters the router control window. You will be required to enter a username and password. In most cases, when configuring a D-Link router, you need to enter admin in both fields. This is a universal, programmed at the factory, login and password for devices of the type in question.

After entering the router control area, select the tab called "Network". Next, click on "Connections", after - on the WAN connection icon. On the page that will load after clicking on the WAN, you will need to make sure that the boxes for obtaining the DNS address and IP are ticked. In general, you don't need to change anything on this page. Most modern Russian providers do not require that this setting of the D-Link router be adjusted somehow. Rostelecom, for example, is one of them.

Then we return to the "Network" and "Connection" tab. Click "Add". After that, you will need to enter the settings that the provider working in a particular city must provide (moreover, they may differ for houses located in different parts of the settlement). Having entered the required values, click "Save".

Wi-Fi setup specifics

As a rule, if the D-Link router is being configured, WiFi can also be activated. In order to use the wireless module of the device, you must again select the "Network" tab, then "Wi-Fi". In the window that opens, enter the name of the network - any convenient for the user, in Latin letters. You can also set the maximum number of devices ("clients") connected to the router at the same time. For example, if a person uses three devices - say, a PC, a laptop and a smartphone, then the number 3 can be entered.

Next, select the "Security Settings" tab. We set up authentication through the WPA2 / PSK mixed standard (mixed type of protection) - it is considered one of the most reliable. We choose TKIP + AES encryption, since this option is recognized by many IT experts as optimal in terms of network security. After - enter the password. Its minimum length is 8 characters. However, IT specialists recommend that you enter a longer password. Also, it should be, if possible, difficult - so that it is difficult to guess. Using a password, you can control access to the Wi-Fi network, informing it only to those people who have the right to use the Internet to which the owner of the router is connected.

Note that setting up Wi-Fi, the main nuances of which we noted, is generally carried out according to the same principles also when working with other routers of the series in question.

After all the settings, click "System", after - "Save and Restart". This completes the configuration of the D-Link 620 router. In a few minutes, you can start using the Internet. If something does not work, it is advisable to contact the provider's support service.

As a rule, if the connection to the network was successful, then the once fixed settings of the router should ensure the correct operation of the entire system afterwards. At the same time, in a number of cases, on the side of the Internet provider, one or another type of technological modernization may occur, which may predetermine the need to adjust the operation of the router. In this case, the user will probably have to communicate with the service provider to determine the most optimal device settings.

Setting up the D-Link 2500U device

Now let's look at how to configure the D-Link 2500U router, another popular device. From the point of view of working with Windows program interfaces, the algorithm of actions is the same - you need to make sure that in the settings of the network card there are ticks opposite the items on obtaining a DNS address and IP automatically.

As in the case with the previous router, we connect all the wires, and then enter 192.168.1.1 in the browser line. The username and password will be admin. In most cases, the menu of this brand router is in English. To start setting up an Internet connection, click the WAN tab. We select the Add button, after which we get to the settings page itself. Here, as in the previous case, we need data from the provider. The values of both VPI and VCI can differ, therefore, not only between different cities, but also between districts of the same locality. After the user has entered the required settings, you can click Next.

On the page that opens, you should select the correct type of network protocol, also after consulting with your provider. For many Russian providers of Internet access services, PPP over Ethernet is typical, with respect to Encapsulation Mode - LLC / SNAP-BRIDGING option. Click Next.

The next window, of course, will also require knowledge of the data that can only be provided by the provider - this is the login and password. The rest of the options on the page, as a rule, do not need to be adjusted (unless the provider's support team advises otherwise). Click Next.

Setting up a D-Link router of the series in question usually does not require adjusting the items on the page that opens, but it does not hurt to consult the provider regarding this issue as well. If the technical support specialists do not give any recommendations, click Next. After moving to the next page - Apply ("apply settings"). After loading the next interface - click the Finish button, wait for the device to reboot. After a few minutes, you can try using the Internet. If something does not work out, we call technical support.

Despite the fact that this router is not equipped with a Wi-Fi module, many experts recognize it as a reliable and easy-to-use device. At the same time, as in the case of many other devices from D-Link, in the event of changes in the technologies for providing Internet access from the provider, the user may need to learn the new settings directly from the provider of communication services.

Working with the D-Link 2640U modem

Let us now study how the D-Link 2640U router is configured. The first steps in working with this device will be the same as in the case of previous devices - we set up automatic obtaining of the DNS address and IP through the "Control Panel" of the Windows operating system.

Further, as in the configuration of previous routers, we enter the modem settings panel through the browser. The address will look like this - 192.168.1.1. Login and password will be the same - admin. The router configuration interface in this case is likely to be in Russian. Select "Network" and then - "Connections". Click the "Add" button.

The most likely "connection type" is PPPoE. Connections in the "Bridge" format are used much less frequently.

Next, we prescribe the VPI and VCI settings - we, as in previous cases, learn from the provider. Similarly, we ask the service provider for a login and password (by the way, they are often indicated in the subscription agreement - you can try to find them there). It is recommended to activate the Keep Alive option. Regarding the indicators for LCP, it is also recommended to find out the optimal values from the provider. But, as a rule, in the "interval" item it is optimal to set the number 15, in the "dips" option - 2. Also, activate IGMP. Click the "Save" button.

Now we turn to work with another important function, which includes setting up a D-link router - WiFi. To do this, press, respectively, the Wi-Fi button, then - "basic settings". We write the desired name of the network, then set the encryption standard - as in the case of the D-Link 620 modem, this is WPA2-PSK, enter the password for the network. We save the settings. Then we press "System". Next - the item "Save and Reload". In a few minutes we try to use the Internet.

Configuring the D-Link 320 and 300 modem

Let's study how the D-Link 320 router is configured. It is noteworthy that the model with the 300 index is configured in almost the same way. First steps - as usual, we connect the wires, in the Windows settings we set the automatic obtaining of the DNS address and IP. Open the browser, enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Login and password, as in the previous cases, are the same - admin, we get to the web interface of the router control panel. As a rule, it is immediately suggested to change the password set from the factory default to the user one. If desired, an appropriate replacement can be made.

Next, select the menu item "Network", then - "Connections". Click "Add". The main settings window will open. There we select the required type of connection (as a rule, it is PPPoE). In the item "PPP Settings" we enter the login and password, which, as in the previous cases, can be requested from the provider or, alternatively, can be found in the subscription agreement. The MTU value will also need to be checked with the network provider, in many cases this figure is 1492. In general, these are all the settings that need to be made. We save the parameters.

Next, we need to configure Wi-Fi. We select the appropriate item in the menu. Enter the desired name of the wireless network, set up security. As in the previous cases, we select the WPA2-PSK encryption standard, enter the password. Click "Change". Then select "System", then - "Save". As we noted above, the D-Link 300 router is configured using almost the same algorithms. This device and D-Link 320 are actually devices of the same line.

Configuring the D-Link 615 modem

Let's consider how the D-Link 615 router is configured. First, we do everything that we did with previous modems: we connect the wires, set the automatic obtaining of the DNS address and IP in the Windows interfaces. Next - go to the browser, enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Enter in the fields "login" and "password" admin. The system may offer to change the relevant data - if desired, we carry out a replacement.

A distinctive feature that characterizes this released D-link router is that setting up a wireless connection is desirable in the first place. To implement it, you need to press the SETUP button in the start menu of the device control panel. Next, select Wireless Settings. After - Manual Wireless Connection Setup.

Next, it is important to set the correct parameters of the wireless connection. So, regarding the PROTECTED SETUP item, it is advisable to uncheck the Enable option. However, make sure that the checkbox next to the Enable Wireless and Always options is checked. In the Network Name item, enter the name for the network. We set the mixed - mixed - type for the 802.11 communication protocol. Regarding the security settings, Security Mode, it is optimal to set the WPA-Personal parameter. In the Cipher Type item, select AES. Next, enter the password (Pre-Shared Key) for the wireless network. Having checked the correctness of all the parameters, we save the settings by clicking the “Save” button.

Having configured the wireless network, you can proceed to work with the options related, in fact, to the connection to the Internet. Press the SETUP button, then - Internet, after - Manual Internet Connection Setup. In the menu that opens, we have to specify the communication protocol used (most likely, it will be PPPoE), login and password (we ask the provider, look in the subscription agreement). You can also configure an additional parameter by clicking on Clone MAC Address. Set Connect Mode Select to Always On. The recommended MTU value should be obtained from the provider, most likely, it will be equal to 1472. After checking the correctness of the settings, click Save Settings, after which the router will save the settings and reboot. After a few minutes, you can try to start using the Internet.

Features of setting up D-Link modems

If we have at our disposal a router released by D-Link, the configuration of this device, as a rule, is performed within the framework of very simple algorithms, which are generally similar for all device models. What features can be distinguished in relation to setting up devices of the types we have considered?

First of all, we note that, along with knowledge of the router configuration algorithm, information from the provider will be no less useful for us - and this is the main feature of working with devices. The step-by-step configuration of the D-Link router in any modification requires the appropriate data. If they are not at hand, then it will be problematic to connect to the Internet, since the spread of indicators that determine the technological specifics of connecting to the network can be very large in practice, it is not easy to guess the right one. Knowing the specifics of the standards used by the provider is an extremely important aspect; without it, it is difficult to correctly configure the D-Link router. Beeline, Rostelecom, other large suppliers, as well as various operators may be characterized by tangible differences in technological approaches. But, as a rule, the provider's support service is open to communication with the user. Her specialist usually always advises the required settings.

What other features does the D-Link branded router have? Setting up devices within the series we have considered, as we found out, at the very first stages of working with devices requires entering a username and password. They are usually standard, they sound like admin. But it may well turn out that the user will have a device with changed login and password settings. Which he may not know. But it's not a problem.

Reset

It is enough to carry out a hardware "reset" of all the settings of the router. To do this, you need to press the RESET button, which is located at the back of the case. That is, in the same place as the connectors for connecting cables. Be sure to turn off the power to the device before pressing it. After pressing, you should wait about a minute before working with the device again. After the user has reset the settings of the D-Link router, the factory login and password - admin - should work.

Please note that resetting the factory settings using the RESET button will invalidate all settings, including, in particular, those responsible for accessing the wireless network. Therefore, if, for example, in the process of restoring operable options, the user sets a new password on Wi-Fi, then he may need to tell it to people who used the network before, knowing only the old one. Also, if, for example, devices such as a Smart TV-enabled TV or a set-top box were connected to the device via Wi-Fi, then the corresponding settings in them will also need to be updated if a new password is set in the router.

Saving settings

The devices of the series in question have a useful function of saving settings (with the possibility of their subsequent restoration in case of failures). To do this, you need to set the correct settings through the router's web interface and make sure that the Internet works with them. Then you can save these parameters. To do this, in the main menu of the router control panel, select the TOOLS button, then - SYSTEM. To save the settings to a file on the computer disk, click Save Configuration, and then select the desired location in the file system. It is also useful to make a copy of the saved file on another medium, such as a USB flash drive. To, in turn, restore the settings, after entering the same area of the router control panel, click the "Browse" button (if the operating system version is Russian), and then specify the settings file that was previously written to the disk or to a USB flash drive. After - click Restore Configuration Settings. Then you need to reboot the router by clicking the Reboot button. Also, through this interface, you can restore the factory settings by pressing the Restore Device button - the effect will be the same as when you press the RESET button on the device case.

Restart required

The peculiarity of the devices of the series in question is that when changing the settings, the device must be rebooted every time. That is, if, for example, some important file is downloaded from the Internet, and a disconnection of the connection is undesirable, it is better not to change the settings of the router, but wait until the necessary information is loaded. Also, it may turn out that some other person is connected to the network via Wi-Fi, and it may also be undesirable for him to disconnect the Internet. Therefore, we are waiting for the router to be free of use, and only after that we make the necessary adjustments in the settings.

So, you just bought a D-Link router, and this article was written to quickly and correctly set up a new Wi-Fi router.
