For the examination, the Consumer Rights Protection Society "Roskontrol" purchased and transferred to its own testing laboratory 6 automatic washing machines of the brands Bosch (Germany, model manufactured in Russia), Candy (Italy, model manufactured in Russia), Electrolux (Sweden, model manufactured in Ukraine), Hotpoint-Ariston (Italy, the model is made in Russia), LG ( South Korea, the model is made in Russia), Samsung (South Korea, the model is made in Poland) costing from 16,600 to 24,000 rubles at February prices.

Each of the presented models belongs to stand-alone washing machines not equipped with a dryer. It is worth noting that, in addition to five samples of the popular “narrow style” (depth 38-45 cm), the number of tested machines included one super-narrow (depth 35 cm) model Hotpoint-Ariston WMUF 5050 B, designed for 5 kg of laundry.

Evaluation of ergonomics, quality of materials and assembly, as well as the aesthetic appeal of the samples was carried out by an expert commission consisting of 6 people. Manufacturers' logos and other distinguishing features were carefully masked before the so-called visual-tactile evaluation, so that the focus group participants would not have a "brand effect" that could affect perception.

During the study of the models, each of the engineering solutions was ambiguously evaluated by the group. Almost everyone noticed that when opening the hatch and the cuvette (powder tray) of the Candy washing machine, mechanical contact of these elements occurred. Considering that the washing Candy machine, as the cheapest sample presented, did not have an electronic character display (its function was partially performed by not very visual “bulbs” of the mode indicator), it received the lowest score for its design and quality of materials. The effectiveness of the washing machine "as a whole" depends primarily on how well it copes with dirt. In order to test the capabilities of the models, Roskontrol experts prepared 6 reference contaminants: black tea, coffee, red wine, fresh cherries, fresh herbs, and a meat dish (stewed pork with soy sauce). After contamination of the test cloths according to a special technique, all stains were “infused” for 20 hours at room temperature to obtain the effect of “stuck in”. After that, they, together with the ballast cotton fabric, ended up in the drum of each washing machine.

The total weight of the load was 80% of the maximum allowable for each model, the test wash was carried out using the most common program "Cotton 60ºС". Each machine has its own program algorithm, and it is this circumstance that largely determines the final result.

Each machine used a different amount of energy, water and time for a wash cycle with a spin cycle. Basically, almost a full drum of cotton fabric of the model was "digested" for 3 hours. Hotpoint-Ariston worked the longest - she spent 3 hours and 10 minutes, and the Bosch washing machine became the sprinter, which kept within 2 hours and 1 minute. As a result, the rush turned into the fact that one of the most expensive dough machines could not remove the stain from the cherry, taking only fifth place in the analysis of the quality of washing. However, other samples with washing coped with varying degrees of success. Among them, almost no one was able to completely remove stains from fresh cherries, and fresh greens also became a problem for many. The laboratory assistants took out a perfectly clean canvas only from the drum of the LG washing machine. The inexpensive machine from Candy proved to be very worthy. The sample of the Samsung brand coped with pollution the worst of all: the number of traces left from fresh cherries and greens unpleasantly surprised the experts.

“The miracle did not happen: all samples that spent 3 hours on washing coped with stains better than their “two-hour” competitors. What's more, the most economical models, which consumed the least amount of electricity and water per wash cycle, also performed worse. How much does a kilo of laundry cost?

The measurement of electricity costs and cold water consumption was also carried out when the machine performed standard program washing "Cotton 60ºС". The Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine spent the least. But it should be recalled that this model has the most modest dimensions and can hold no more than 5 kg of cotton fabric. Her energy consumption was 0.74 kW, and cold water 45 liters. Which, translated into the language of money, amounted to only 5 rubles and 5 kopecks for washing and squeezing each kilogram of linen (of which about 4 rubles is the price of the powder).

However, other samples also did not differ in wastefulness. The Bosch machine can be called the most "gluttonous" in this sense - its price for washing one kilogram of laundry has reached 5.35 kopecks. As you can see, the difference between the outsider and the leader in this part of the test is within 30 kopecks per kilogram, or 2 rubles per washing cycle of a fully loaded machine, so it hardly makes sense to make these results a selection criterion. But it should be remembered that the smaller the load of the machine, the less profitable the cost of washing in terms of a kilogram of laundry will be. Even if there are only a couple of T-shirts in the drum, the consumption of electricity and water per wash cycle will decrease slightly.

The noise of the drums

The noise level is a parameter that cannot be checked in a store, but at the same time loud noise operation of the device is one of the most annoying factors in the washing machine, especially if you run the wash late at night.

Noise level measurements were made using measuring equipment of the first class of accuracy in a special measuring chamber, during washing and during spinning at a "classic" speed of 800 rpm. The loudest were Hotpoint-Ariston and Candy.

The absolute leader of this stage of the test is the Samsung model, which wrung out the laundry at 1200 rpm, after which only 30% of excess moisture remained in the fabric. Models with a spin speed of 1000 rpm shared the second and third places with a minimum margin. Laundry after the rinse and spin program in the LG machine retained 44% moisture, after Electrolux - 45%. Worst of all, Bosch coped with the spinning process: the fabric moistened and wrung out in it became heavier by 56%. It will take much longer to dry such clothes.

According to the results of all tests, it turned out that the efficiency of washing machines does not directly depend on the price of the device. The obvious outsider of the tests is the super-narrow Hotpoint Ariston machine: noisy and by no means ideally washing. Expensive Bosch model and budget Candy in the final assessment, they stood on the same level, sharing third place. Second place, again jointly, was taken by Electrolux and Samsung cars.
