The feeling that the card is redundant for full HD does not leave. Perhaps 770 would be enough.
But I took it for GTA5, in the fall it will be clear whether I lost it or not.
Under load, the card is audible. But it's not critical, compared to the GTX470 it's just a sample of silence.
The case of Zalman Z9 Plus, the thermocouple practically lies on the backplate of the video card next to the power connectors. So the temperature is 40-42 degrees. at room 25.
I think in a simpler case the temperature would be higher.
The card almost butted up - it became about 3mm to the basket. Keep in mind.

Nevertheless, we have a stable 1215 core frequency and 6500 memory in overclocking. I didn’t drive the memory anymore because it’s scary that it will get very hot, although in the reviews people drive up to 7100))) In Furmarke at ultra 80 FPS))) Very good result. Pro noisiness I’ll write a card under load, it’s noisy no matter what anyone says, but thanks to its cooling from thick tubes, it keeps the temperature at 75-80 degrees when the coolers calm down to 50% And you can’t hear it at all. Well, if it cools down under load to 60-70 degrees but the ears are not comfortable. The new cooler howls like a wolf ... In general, I am satisfied with the purchase, but I had to put my hands on it. Yes, and even without Core i 7 A useless purchase.

I'm delighted!!! Relatively small, it doesn't eat much, it's cold, it chases well, but I can only write about Power with a capital letter!)) All I found on the Internet is the slider to the right to the end without overclocking, drawdowns will appear - overclocking will definitely eliminate

Guys, this is ... (you can’t describe it without swearing XD) Personally, my opinion is that taking the very top is stupid, taking the middle one is also stupid. Optimally before the top, which is inferior to the top 2-5fps and 30-50% of the cost. This VC, taking into account overclocking, will last you for a long time!

Silence. Both at idle and under load. No whistling, creaking, etc.
    Productive. Acceptable acceleration.
disadvantages
I didn't quite understand the location of the cooling pipes.
Apparently, the engineers at ASUS decided that the motherboards were freezing and brought all the pipes closer to the motherboard.
The price could have been lower.

Overclocking 1241 chips, 7200 memory.
There are no artifacts.
Left on a constant 1100/7000.
The temperature is a maximum of 71 C, the windows are open, outside the window is 30 C. FurMark swallowed.
I am satisfied with the purchase. Long thought between 770 and 780, settled on this one.
Works in tandem with 3570K.

Since we are talking about an accelerator on the Nvidia GPU, it is reasonable to pay attention to the application again. Nvidia GeForce Experience, which is part of the drivers and is designed to help owners of such accelerators. Owners of 3D accelerators will encounter this program one way or another when installing drivers.

So that the user of this family of video cards does not bother with questions about what settings to set in each game in order to get the best ratio of quality and performance, Nvidia specialists have developed optimal sets of options (settings) for games.

The utility independently scans the Windows registry for already installed games, as well as folders with popular gaming systems Steam, Origin, etc., by creating a list of games for a specific user. Then the utility scans the PC configuration to select the optimal settings for specific conditions. Finally the program installs optimal settings in games that this version already knows.

Moreover, even in games for which there are currently no settings in the database for a specific PC configuration, the program will try to select the settings that are as close as possible in terms of comfort, for which there are special button to start the optimization process.

Geforce Experience also monitors latest versions drivers, constantly checks for updates and informs the user about the availability of new (even beta) versions. If necessary, the driver is downloaded using the utility itself, and installed from it.

And we return to the study of the card based on Geforce GTX 780.

About the cooling system.

Asus Geforce GTX 780 DirectCu II OC 3072MB 384bit GDDR5 PCI-E

We see another representative of the Asus DirectCu series of cooling systems. In general, the scheme of operation is the same: a huge nickel-plated copper radiator, a base into which heat-conducting pipes are soldered, distributing heat along the radiator fins.

From above, all this is covered with a casing with two very high-quality fans: one main, the second auxiliary. The first has a special design, and the second initially works at constant low speeds, so it is almost inaudible. The CO turned out to be even slightly excessive for the GTX 780, so the maximum rotational speed of the main fan does not exceed 1800 rpm, which makes the cooler as a whole very quiet.

Memory chips are not cooled (however, they operate at standard frequencies), but power transistors have their own small heatsink.

We conducted a temperature study using the EVGA PrecisionX utility (author A. Nikolaychuk AKA Unwinder) and obtained the following results:

The "younger" Titan model called , we are already . Today we offer you to get acquainted with the review of another video card that did not have time for the previous summary test: ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC. As you can guess from the "DirectCU" add-on, ASUS added its own cooling system, which allowed the NVIDIA graphics card to better exploit the potential of GPU Boost 2.0 technology. In our review, we will evaluate the performance of the video card and other characteristics.

Until now, ASUS has only offered the GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II graphics card with the reference cooling system, a new version is just starting to appear on sale in the European market, and so far we have only met the version without OC. In Russia, the video card has not yet appeared.

Before we move on to a detailed review of the ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC video card and test results, let me briefly recall the GPU architecture.

Architecture Information

Like the GeForce GTX Titan, the GeForce GTX 780 is based on the GK110 GPU. But in this case not all available transistors and computing units are involved. The GTX 780 variant does not have all SMX clusters enabled, resulting in fewer CUDA stream processors. A total of 12 SMX Clusters provide 192 CUDA Stream Processors each, giving the GeForce GTX 780 2304 CUDA Stream Processors. The base GPU frequency is 863 MHz, which increases to at least 902 MHz in GPU Boost mode. The amount of GDDR5 memory is 3072 MB, which is exactly half compared to the 6 GB GeForce GTX Titan, the operating frequency is 1502 MHz, the memory is connected via a 384-bit bus, which gives throughput 288.4 GB/s. Due to architecture cuts, we end up with 192 texture units and 48 raster operations pipelines (ROPs). NVIDIA specifies a graphics card TDP of 250W.

But enough theory. Below we compare the specifications of the new ASUS with a reference video card and a competitor's product.

Announcement GeForce GTX 780 became a real holiday for those who were going to get a top-end video card with GPU from NVIDIA. Based on a slightly simplified version of the GK110 processor, the flagship of the GeForce GTX 700 graphics line is only slightly inferior to the GeForce GTX TITAN, but is noticeably cheaper. The possibility of significant savings with minimal loss in performance is a tempting prospect for demanding, but prudent gamers. This is well understood by video card manufacturers, who are ready to go to great lengths to attract the attention of picky users. Let's take a closer look at the capabilities of the forced version of the GeForce GTX 780 from a well-known Taiwanese manufacturer - ASUS GTX 780 DirectCu II OC.

The OC index used in the device name is a sure sign that we are dealing with a forced version of the video card. In this case, the manufacturer is not too zealous. base frequency GPU increased from 863 to 889 MHz. At the same time, the average value of the dynamic acceleration of the chip has been increased from 902 to 941 MHz. 3 GB of GDDR5 memory runs at the recommended 6008 MHz, which, coupled with a 384-bit bus, provides a throughput of 288.4 GB / s.

Recall that the version of the GK110 chip in the case of the GeForce GTX 780 is not so lightened. The GPU retained 2304 compute units and also has 192 texture units and 48 ROPs, while for the GPU in the GeForce GTX TITAN version it has 2688 CUDA computes, 224 TMUs and also 48 ROPs. As we could see earlier, such a shortage can be fully compensated for by increasing the GPU clock frequency, but more on that later.

The name of the video card from ASUS eloquently indicates that this adapter uses the DirectCu II cooling system. This series of coolers includes a lot of different options, but it is obvious that the GeForce GTX 780 needs a special design - after all, the video card has a TDP of 250W. And the very fact that we are talking about a top-level device requires some non-standard solutions from the manufacturer, because the reference cooler turned out to be very good in practice, and besides, it is very effective. Let's see what ASUS will surprise this time.

The manufacturer draws attention to the fact that the heatsink's dissipation area in this case is more than doubled compared to that of the reference model. Of course, a direct comparison here is not entirely correct, because the stock model cooler contains an evaporation chamber. However, the cooler from ASUS is also far from trivial. The DirectCu II modification used for the original GeForce GTX 780 includes a whole set of nickel-plated heat pipes that are in direct contact with the GPU die.

In general, this is already a familiar feature of DirectCu series coolers, but in this case one of the heat pipes has an impressive diameter of 10 mm. In addition, the design provides two 8-millimeter tubes and another pair with a diameter of 6 mm.

The existing "pipeline" is arranged in such a way as to maximize the transfer of heat from the source to the radiator cassette.

The stacked block of aluminum plates in this case is blown by a pair of 100 mm fans, which also have certain nuances. One of them is made using CoolTech Fan technology. In the central part, the location of the blades is typical for centrifugal-type models, which in this case makes it possible to increase the airflow area, as well as the air volumes that are removed outside system block through the grate in the mounting plate. On the outer radius, we have the shape of the blades, typical for axial fans.

This hybrid model allows some of the advantages of both types of fans. For the first time, we came across a similar development by ASUS during the review, where the manufacturer managed to create a powerful adapter within the compact dimensions.

Obviously, the very idea of a hybrid cooler turned out to be quite successful, so the manufacturer took it into service and uses it even for top-end devices.

The second fan also has a diameter of 100 mm, but it differs from the usual axial models in significantly increased dimensions of the blades, which allow generating a significant air flow.

The original circuit board is used for the video card. The PCB contains a more powerful power subsystem built according to a 10-phase scheme (8+2) and controlled by a digital controller DIGI+VRM (ASP1212). Power keys are additionally cooled with aluminum radiator, which has ribs.

On the reverse side, the board is covered with a metal perforated plate. It is not used to cool the components, but to protect against mechanical damage and also increases the strength of the structure. In addition, such aluminum armor perfectly complements the appearance of the adapter.

To connect additional power on the top edge there are two connectors - 6- and 8-pin. At the same time, the connectors themselves are deployed with latches outward, which simplifies the connection of power cables as much as possible. Traditionally for video cards of this level from ASUS, they are equipped with power supply indicators. The LEDs next to the connectors are green if the cable is connected, or red if you forgot to do so.

The recommendations regarding the power of the power supply do not differ from those indicated by NVIDIA for systems with the GeForce GTX 780. We are talking about models from 600 W and higher, capable of providing up to 38 A current through the 12 V line.

The presence of a pair of connectors for connecting SLI bridges indicates that the video card can work in a multi-adapter configuration, and combinations of 3/4-Way SLI are possible.

The length of the video card is almost 285 mm. Of course, this adapter is not at all a champion in terms of dimensions, however, before buying, it would be useful to make sure that the video card will be installed in the case without any problems, and the storage basket will not interfere with that. Note that the ASUS GTX 780 DirectCU II OC will take up two expansion slots, not three, like many top ASUS Solutions previous generations. This is an important nuance, especially if you plan to use multiple graphics cards in your system.

The graphics card comes with a user manual, a driver disk, and an SLI bridge for connecting a pair of video cards (usually shipped with motherboards) and an adapter from a pair of 6-pin auxiliary power connectors to one 8-pin.

Cooler Efficiency

We already have a general idea about the performance of the GeForce GTX 780 in general, so we wanted to quickly check the efficiency of the cooling system. We evaluated the capabilities of the cooler in an open testbed, while the temperature in the room at the time of testing was 23 °C. DirectCU II in the incarnation used cooled the GPU to 29 degrees, with a fan speed of 1150 rpm.

Under gaming load, the fan speeds increased to 1630, which was enough to keep the GPU temperature at 63 C.

As you can see in the diagram, the peak frequency, to which the GPU automatically accelerates under load, in this case is 992 MHz. In the case of the GeForce GTX 780 test sample, despite the lower base value, the chip could accelerate up to 1006 MHz, but this did not happen so often. Under high load, the temperature of the chip in the reference model on an open bench easily reached 80 degrees. Given that with the second version of GPU Boost, the GPU clock frequency is highly dependent on temperature, in such cases, the built-in auto-overclocking mechanism begins to actively regulate the processor clock frequency, reducing it from a peak of 1006 MHz to 940-960 MHz. At the same time, the large margin of safety of the cooling system used for the video card from ASUS allows it to pass even heavy resource-intensive tests actually at the maximum specified GPU frequency - 992 MHz.

Overclocking

More than a modest factory increase in the base frequency of the GPU encourages independent experiments. By changing the Power Limit parameter to 110%, as well as slightly increasing the chip supply voltage, we managed to increase the processor frequency to 1075 MHz. At the same time, under load, the GPU dynamically accelerated up to 1189 MHz.

A spurt of 20% should provide a nice performance boost. In addition, the memory "went" is also pretty good - from 6008 MHz to 7096 MHz. Let's see how this will affect the quantitative increase in frames / c in games.

In our testing conditions, additional overclocking increased GPU heating by only one degree - up to 63 C. Probably, in a closed case, the situation will not be so optimistic, and the temperatures will be higher.

Performance

On average, the performance of the forced version of the video card from ASUS turned out to be slightly higher than that of the reference model. Despite the fact that the peak value of dynamic auto overclocking here is even slightly lower than that of the reference GTX 780, an efficient cooling system allows the GPU to operate at the highest available frequency even under heavy load. Therefore, here we see a characteristic pattern - the higher the load on the video card in a single test stage, the greater the difference in performance. However, if we talk about absolute figures, then the difference is not so great ~ 1–2%.

Serious overclocking noticeably speeds up the video card. The basic version of the GeForce GTX TITAN remains behind in all cases without exception, while the gap between the boosted GTX 780 sometimes reaches a rather impressive 10-15% in synthetics and a more modest 2-10% in games. GeForce GTX TITAN can also be accelerated, however, we recall that these models are provided so far only in their original form with reference CO. As practice shows, this imposes certain restrictions that have already been removed for the GeForce GTX 780.

Results

The flagship of the GeForce GTX 700 series of discrete graphics cards, according to ASUS, turned out to be very successful. ASUS GTX780 DirectCU II OC based on the original printed circuit board with a reinforced power supply subsystem. The exclusive version of the cooler copes with the cooling of the GK110 much better than the reference model. At the same time, high-quality components allow you to count on a serious afterburner. In our opinion, the manufacturer was somewhat modest, indicating the basic frequencies for this adapter. The potential of the hardware platform in this case is ready for much greater gaming loads. Whoever has a desire will be able to verify this on their own experience. We checked, and as a result - " Editor's Choice: Best Quality».

GeForce GTX 780 is not cheap pleasure, besides the recommended price original version from ASUS is higher than that of the reference models (~$750). One, for owners of monitors of impressive diagonals, who do not intend to give up the maximum graphics quality due to high resolution, the cost of a video card with a GK110 chip will be justified. In addition, minimal overclocking makes it easy to overtake the GeForce GTX TITAN, and the ability to have the fastest single-chip video card is also worth something.

New generation NVIDIA graphics cards The GeForce GTX 700 stirred up the market somewhat, as the end user received far from what he expected. NVIDIA, under the auspices of the new product GeForce GTX 770, rolled out last year's top solution NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 with cosmetic changes. And in the face of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, the user got a really interesting product, which is one step lower than the top-end NVIDIA GeForce Titan solution. In today's review, we propose to dwell on the ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC video card, which differs from the standard solution not only in factory overclocking, a modified cooling system, but also in an increased cost of $50 relative to the base product.
The remarkable thing about the entire new line of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 graphics cards is that its recommended price is at the level of $650. The low-end GeForce GTX 770 took the $400 niche, while the $1,000 GeForce Titan sits at the top. Naturally, new solutions will have to appear soon, because the existing price range is quite wide and, for decency, it will have to be replenished with a solution, at least for $ 500, which the GeForce GTX 680 solution kept for a year.

Competitor represented by AMD plans to release a new generation Radeon video cards HD 8000. Unfortunately, this remains a plan for the time being - we don't see real products. Thus, if by announcing a new generation of video cards in late 2011-early 2012 - AMD's Radeon HD 7970 confidently took a leading position in the market and "skimmed" the cream from the growing market, then today it runs the risk of introducing its new generation of video cards and This is against the backdrop of rapidly declining demand for computers and their components. All this is rather sad and hardly promises AMD any obvious success.
The new generation of video cards GeForce GTX 780 differs from the GeForce GTX TITAN not only by reducing the cost and the number of computing units in the core. Also, the product has been reduced the amount of video memory to three gigabytes, while the GeForce GTX TITAN has six gigabytes of video memory. At the same time, the novelty received higher operating frequencies and a heat dissipation level of 250 watts, that is, similar to that of the GeForce GTX TITAN. Thus, the standard conclusion suggests itself that the new GeForce GTX 780 is nothing more than a rejected top product GeForce GTX TITAN. Nevertheless, this marriage has an attractive cost, so it will be in demand among users who are willing to spend more than $ 500 on a video card.

Equipment

The video card comes in a box of standard design. It is black, the front side indicates compatibility with Windows 8, the presence of a modified power system, overclocking capabilities software tools ASUS, as well as the use of the DirectCu II cooling system, popular and well-known in specialized circles.

On the back of the box, the manufacturer elaborates on technical features product, and also informs about the presence of a three-year warranty. The presented image shows a possible configuration of the multi-monitor modes of operation of the video card.

Despite the fact that the product is top-end and, compared to the reference version, it is offered to pay up to $50 for it, its bundle is rather poor. The box contains the video card itself, instructions, a disk with drivers and software, PCI-Express power adapter, and NVIDIA SLI bridge.

External inspection of the video card

When considering a video card, a modified DirectCu II cooling system catches the eye. It is already familiar to our regular readers. Her key feature is a direct contact of copper heat pipes with a video card chip, which significantly reduces the delta of operating temperatures by improving thermal conductivity.

The heat from the heat pipes is distributed on a massive heatsink, which is blown by fairly quiet cooling fans.

Unlike the reference solution, the reverse side of the video card is covered with a heat-distributing plate. It is not clear how effective it is, since there are no heat-conducting pads between the elements and the plate itself, and the plate itself seems to protect more from the user's playful pens than to take care of heat dissipation.

The video card has two SLI connectors for organizing multigraphic mode.

To provide additional power, the video card requires the connection of two PCI-Express connectors - an eight-pin and a six-pin.

Directly on the printed circuit board there is a platform for measuring the operating voltages of the video card.

Samsung elements marked K4G20325FD-FC03 and a nominal operating frequency of 1500 MHz are used as video memory chips.

Our copy of the ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC video card has a slight factory overclock - up to 889 MHz for the core, the video memory frequency remains at the reference level.

1. Temperature regime video card work
ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC - 34/64 C - idle / load in degrees

The video card was tested under the following conditions:
- in the room 27 degrees,
- the video card is installed in a closed case,
- there are no additional cooling fans in the case,
- the load is applied until the temperatures are fully stabilized for 15 minutes.

The results of testing the efficiency of the DirectCU II cooling system once again confirm that it has no equal. Even with enough high level heat dissipation, the core of the video card operates at temperatures below 70 degrees, which indicates a good thermal margin for the applied system.

2. Overclocking the video card
The overclocking of the ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC video card is slightly higher than the standard values. We managed to conquer 1092 MHz for the core, and 1857 MHz for video memory.

3. Game Battlefield 3
Test conditions: FullHD resolution, 4xAA anti-aliasing.
ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC - 106 FPS

4. Crysis 3

ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC - 39 FPS

5Metro: Last Light
Test conditions: resolution 1980x1200 pixels, anti-aliasing 4xAA.
ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC - 45 FPS

Conclusion

The main objective of this material was to find out the need for an additional $ 50 for a modified solution from ASUS. In our opinion, each user must decide for himself whether it is worth it or not: factory overclocking gives the video card about 8-10% performance increase, but the used cooling system shows itself from a more than advantageous side. Another thing is that at what temperature the video card works - 60 degrees or 70 degrees - does not affect anything.
