How to set up VoLTE on your smartphone

Calling over VoLTE is easy to set up. As a rule, the gadget after a software update turns on this mode automatically. If this does not happen, you can activate this option in the smartphone settings.

Select the "SIM cards and mobile networks" section, find the "VoLTE HD call" command and switch it to active mode.

Less than a year ago, she reached Russia. On the this moment four largest operator: Megafon, MTS, Beeline and Tele2. MegaFon was one of the first to start transmitting voice signals via LTE and is rightfully considered one of the leaders in high-quality voice signal transmission.

At the moment, VoLTE technology is available only in Moscow and the Moscow region. When roaming, it is recommended to turn off VoLTE in the phone settings in order to reduce the load on the phone, which will look for 4G if this is not deactivated.

Many people may ask: if the technology uses a 4G connection, does this mean that you can make free calls over the internet? and is traffic used during a voice connection?

Not. Calls can still be made free of charge, but only through third party programs, like Skype, a call over a 4G network is made and paid in the same way as a call in 2/3G networks, and when using it, Internet traffic is not consumed.

Advantages

1. Superior sound quality compared to others: 2nd and 3rd generation networks are limited to 16Kbps for bit rate and audio quality. The use of HD Voice technologies in VoLTE technology improves sound quality, gives volume to the voice and reduces the amount of interference and noise.
2. Possibility of simultaneous transmission of data and voice: in 2 and 3G networks, operators did not allow calling and using Internet services at the same time, since this increased the load on the network and significantly reduced the quality of communication. Now it is possible to transmit voice via LTE directly due to less capacious manipulations with transmission networks.
Voice over LTE technology reduces the load on the network by 3 times compared to 3G transmission and 6 times compared to 2G. This is due to the larger amount of data that base stations can receive. The lower the communication generation, the smaller the amount of data to be processed simultaneously.
3. More high speed connections: When using 4G while making a call, the phone was supposed to switch to 2/3G mode depending on the called party. This transition can take up to twenty seconds. On a phone without VoLTE support, it simply will not connect, even with the capabilities of a SIM card.

How to start using

To start using VoLTE technology, you just need to buy a Megafon SIM card and have a phone that supports it. Most of the SIM cards sold now are equipped with networks latest generation, which are activated when they enter the coverage area.
