Clock for SUUNTO climbers. Choice of sports clock for tourism

"Do not delay him, girl! Do you know how much time costs? Thousand pounds - one minute!"
It is said that "do not observe happy hours." If in the campaign or on climbing not to look at the clock, you can become unhappy. In the legendary "imperial transntarctic expedition" 1914-16, Ernest Sheklton was 24 chronometers and only one survived during this time. Thanks to him and a secret, Captain Wastley could successfully determine the location of all 1.5 years of autonomous existence. Modern clocks are already able to determine the coordinates and much more, but the main task, as a hundred years ago, is one thing - to show the exact time in any conditions. Today, many wristwrites are microcomputers, well protected by a polymer shell with a brutal design, "double" power, barometer functions, altimeter, navigator, thermometer, alarm clock, notebook, stopwatch.

In this review, under the clock for Outdoor, models are implied by manufacturers to the series for sports (including professional and extreme), various active types of recreation and physical activity, as well as hours for special services.

All wrist watches are divided into two large groups: mechanical and quartz / electronic.The first are with manual and automatic seabe, but in view of the nuances of their mechanized filling since the 1970s, they gradually gave way to quartz, especially if it comes to extreme use. The second work due to the quartz crystal and the battery element and are electromechanical (with arrows), completely electronic (digital display) or hybrid (time is shown by arrows and numbers at the same time). The most accurate time will show only the GARMIN GPS-navigator, which in the included state receives this information from the atomic hours of satellites, but much more convenient to just look at the wrist.
All quartz watches are similar - a quartz generator issues sinusoidal signal With a high degree of frequency stabilization (32768 Hz), which is further divided to the frequency of 1 Hz (1 second) and the enhanced fed to wind the step mechanism moving the second arrow or is fed to the processor that processes the signal and gives it to the liquid crystal indicator. The minus clocks with arrows is the small speed of reading information (you need to think to understand how many hours and minutes) and the presence of moving elements (two or three arrows), and therefore - the total less reliability compared to the fully electronic clock, which in its display instantly shown Not only time, but other information, incl. Pulse man, ambient temperature, height and more.

- Waterproof
One of the most important characteristics that reports how long, intensively and deeply hours without consequences can be in contact with water (located under the thickness, water pressure). Waterproof is determined according to ISO 2281 standards (Definition of sealing of the wrist watch of everyday use), ISO 6425 (professional clock for underwater dive), iphh (second digit from 0 to 9 indicates the level of water protection). According to the first standard, the clock is without labeling Water Resist, with Water Resist label (WR), 30WR, 50WR, WR 100WR, 200WR. Naturally the greatest rates at the diving hours to the depths of 300 meters using the breathing mixture. In normal use, even with a storm rain, there is enough labeling 50WR or 100WR (reinforced water resistance of class II for everyday use). In any case, all manufacturers categorically do not recommend using the crown and buttons under water.

- Life period from the battery
Many hours have an end indicator of the battery life. For example, the second arrow begins to move immediately into two (or four) seconds at once or strongly drops the display of the display, a special symbol appears on the display. The time life of the clock from the new battery depends on the model and frequency of use additional features (Illumination, Stopwatch, GPS) and ranges from 12 hours to 6 and even 10 years (Tough Battery 10 at Casio). Before replacing the power element, you always need to remember which type is used in this model - the battery or battery. The second is set if the clocks have a built-in solar cell using Eco-Drive or Kinetic / Autoquartz (energy source of human hand). Reliable clock element manufacturers: Renata, Varta, Maxell, Panasonic, Sony, Seizaiken.
Oxide-silver watch batteries are divided into 2 groups. In the first group, a gel sodium hydroxide solution is used as an electrolyte - NaOH. The batteries of this group are used in clocks with low constant power consumption (only time indication). In the second group, a gel solution of potassium hydroxide - KOH is used as an electrolyte, due to the high electrical conductivity of which, the batteries of this group are used in hours with energy-intensive functions (beep, backlight).
Lithium power sources (3 volt) appeared relatively recently, but provide uninterrupted nutrition up to 6 years
From the instructions for the clock "Suunto Vector": "The wrist computer works on a three-tight lithium battery of the CR 2430 type. The probable maximum period of its operation in the device is about 12-18 months. The battery discharge indicator turns on when there are still 5-15% of the battery capacity. In this case, we still advise you to change the battery. Very cold weather can also provoke the inclusion of the discharge indicator of the battery. "

- accuracy of the course when wearing on the wrist
The accuracy of the stroke of quartz clock exceeds the accuracy of mechanical and averages + -15 ... + - 30 seconds per month. However, it is worth noting that the quartz crystal is susceptible to aging, which means sooner or later the clock will begin to rush. The accuracy question is partially solved by automatic corrective amendments through ground base stations by radio channel or from satellites, but this feature is only in expensive Casio hours with the Hybrid Wave Ceptor function (GPS + Multi Band 6) and others. "Let's check the clock!"

- Temperature mode Work
The operating temperature range at the clock is prescribed by manufacturers usually from -10 ..- 5 to +50 .. + 60 degrees Celsius. At first glance, this is not enough for harsh conditions, but the watches are always on hand, which means that heated with heat of the body and closed with clothing. More is dangerous, as for any electronics, a sharp transition from cold to heat. Some models have a thermal sensor (sensor) and are able to show ambient temperature, but in a limited range.

- Impact resistance
Under this concept, it is implied to preserve the performance and integrity of the clock design after applying various shock and vibration loads, drops, squeezing, friction. This breakthrough on this issue was made by Casio with the G-Shock clock in 1983. The design had 10 layers protecting the quartz timer module, including a rubber bumper, a steel housing, mineral glass, screwing the steel back cover, and a "floating module", where the quartz mechanism is fluent in the polyurethane foam frame. The clock is kept dropping from a height of up to 10 meters.

- Having a backlight
The illumination of the clock clock is possible in several ways: either this is a built-in LED, or an electroluminescent backlight, or a light burst coating, i.e. The coating of the shooter from safe neradoactive paint, accumulating solar and artificial light and gives it in the dark. Giving the accumulated light, the coating gradually becomes more dull. Large progress on this issue was produced by Luminox with branded tritium backlit (LLT technology guarantees a glow up to 10 years) and TRASER.

- Case material and strap
Basically use reliable steel and polymer plastic enclosures, less often from titanium, carbon. Fastening back cover The housing is screwed or on the screws. Separately, you need to consider the materials of the glass. This is a sapphire (the most expensive and scratch-resistant, but it is easy to smash it), mineral (most popular in the budget segment), from plastic (plexiglass in low-cost hours). The best is the sapphire glass made of artificially grown sapphire crystal with hardness gemstone and sustainable k. mechanical damage. The watch straps and bracelets are an important component - they depends on the reliability of the clock fastening on the hand, durability and ease of wearing. The straps are made of rubber, silicone, nylon, textiles, genuine leather, and bracelets are steel, titanium. For Outdoor, durable, frost and dirt-resistant straps and bracelets are preferred.

- Altimeter (altimeter)
Very useful feature for climbers, mountainous tourists and fascinated flights. Information about height can be obtained by the measurement results of the atmospheric pressure baroometer, or on the basis of gPS data Sensor. Typically, the measurement range is from -700 to 10,000 m in 5 meters increments (model Casio SGW-300H). The ratio between height and air pressure is calculated in accordance with the International Standard Atmosphere "ICAO" (International Civil Aviation Organization). Before use, it is recommended to calibrate on a point with a known high-altitude mark (for example, on the GSS paragraph, the mark of which can be taken from the topographic map).

- Caliber hourly mechanism
This is perhaps the most important thing in any clock, but .. Don't think about it! It is only enough to know that world manufacturers of high-quality mechanisms are only four: ETA and RONDA from Switzerland, and Miyota (Citizen) and Tmi Seiko from Japan. But what exactly is in your clock - the question is not significant in essence. The more expensive the clock itself, the better in essence.

A separate topic is a Smart watch working on operating systems Android Wear, Watch OS (Apple), Pebble OS, Tizen, Garmin OS. But is it worth it to take them to a multi-day hike?

"For someone, Ponte is a good ice ax, for someone - climbing hours" (from the profile forum Baurock.ru)

"The whole world is on the palms - you are happy with him," said Vysotsky about the joys of the conquest of new vertices. Owners of modern watches for such extreme sports, like mountaineering and climbing, could sing a little different: "The whole world on the wrist - You are happy and it. " A decent part of what an extremal need for a comfortable orientation on the terrain is collected "here in these little boxes."

"You don't have a plain here"

For quite understandable reasons, the absolute majority of climbers and climbers remove the wristwatches from themselves and are generally all unnecessary before training, competition or ascent. However, in some cases, the clock remains on the hand (for example, if there is no other opportunity to find out the time or achieved height, you need a beep alert signal or simply do not want to get the mobile phone with white hands).

So, this article for those who decided to supplement their equipment with such an important accessory and is now located at the very edge of the not studied field of clock brands.

General advice

The first and most important conditions for climbing watches are high resistance negative conditions at high altitude.

  • Hours should not be scary drops of temperature and pressure, as well as mechanical impact (strikes about the solid breed).
  • Hours must have a good water care (at least 100 meters) and be lungs (Optimal materials: titanium, carbon, lightweight plastic).
  • Hours must be very firmly fix On the hand, so that they do not fall out and not slipped!
  • The watch strap should be kauchukov, preferably S. perforationSo that the skin breathe. Rubber is easily rinsed from magnesia. The leather strap is very fast idle, rag - dirty, the steel bracelet will pull the hand (exception is a light titanium bracelet).
  • Hours do not need additional coating. With such intense loads, even very durable coating will soon get off, the clock will lose look.
  • Numbers should be large Clear, understandable. It is better to acquire electronics to not spend and share a second to awareness of the time shown by the arrows.
  • Desirable block buttons (This feature is, for example, from Suunto), because the clock will be often in contact with the wall.
  • Of course, climbers should prefer quartz and electronics Mechanics. Permanent strikes on the rock, shaking and other unfavorable conditions will very soon lead an automatic mechanism into disrepair.

Required functions:

  • Barometer (measurement of atmospheric pressure will help predict weather conditions, the thunderstorm will not find you by surprise);
  • Altimeter (measuring height is necessary not only to establish personal records, but also to alerts about achieving a given point, about height differences, etc.);
  • Stopwatch / Chronograph / Takhimetre / Telemeter (to pass the tracks for speed, determining the speed of approximation of bad weather, alerts about the time remaining at the attempt, etc.)
  • GPS ( satellite system navigation allows you to track exact location in the coordinates, measure the distance from point A to item B, etc.);
  • Compass and thermometer

By default, all or almost all of these features are in the wristwatches considered in this article. The mechanisms of operation of each function marked with an asterisk will be covered in detail in the next article. So, you are the most serious stamps for those who are always on top.

"My climbing, my climbing!"

Women remain women in any conditions. Even where it is necessary to show men's endurance and power. In a climbing woman, everything is fine: both forms, and shape, and all sorts of pleasant little things like a beautiful bandana, a swelling ... or fashionable wristwatches.

For the Austrian champion Angela I. Her electronic wristwatches - Talisman. It is not the fact that on the tracks - in training not always removes them!

It is clear that with the same specificationsAs for men's hours, women's climbing hours are different only by dimensions and design.

Among the most popular brands in the world in sports world is Casio.Baby-G. And with a special hunting of girls acquire white models. It's funny that in any other situation the white color would be marked. However, in our case is optimal option, because Magnesia is not visible on white clock. In addition, the "outbound" rock climbers are tanned - white accessories will look at them very effectively. On the other hand, such hours are not found in the snow, so choose the models separate for summer and for winter.

We turn to the review of one model from a premium series, which today is considered one of the best for professional mountaineering. It will be about Casio Pro Trek PRX-8000T - the most older and functional representative of the MANASLU family. They differ not only by a premium design, a rich set of functions, but also excellent information readable, so calmly can be used by climbers even at an altitude of 8 kilometers.

A slight retreat. The name of the MANASLU collection went from the mountain of the same name, which is one of the most dangerous mountains with a height of 8 km. This mountain was first conquered, that is why they also decided to devote their best Protrek PRX-8000T watches, which initially entered the market in two color variations.

Materials

The kitchen details of this model are made of high-strength titanium alloy, which for additional resistance is covered with a layer of titanium carbide. Crown of hours, bezel and all buttons are treated with a DLC coating (carbon diamond substance). Dial with double luminescent handling arrows for better visibility in the dark is covered with heavy-duty sapphire glass.

As you can see, have the maximum protection, so they are not afraid of any blows, nor vibration, nor diving into water (up to 100 meters), no temperature drops (up to -10 ° C), and it is difficult to find something that might Hurry to damage. Of course, if you wish, you can break any protected hours, but in the mountaineering, where anything happens, the model PRX-8000T is the most reliable assistant who will definitely fail.

Functionality

The main functional feature of these hours is the presence of a TRIPLE SENSOR VER. 3. The new generation of the sensor makes it possible to read as quickly and clearly and clearly:

  • azimuth;
  • temperature (from -10 ° C to +60 ° C, step - 0.1 ° C);
  • recruited height (from -700 to +10 000 meters, a step is 1 meter);
  • atmospheric pressure (step - 1 GPa);
  • pressure drops with alarm function.

Other functions:

  • magnetic compass;
  • time calibration by radio signal in automatic mode (carried 6 times in 24 hours);
  • stopwatch;
  • customized LED backlight;
  • world verse;
  • timer;
  • five multifunctional alarm clocks;
  • charge level indication;
  • power supply Tough Solar.

As you see, our Protrek PRX-8000T watches are charged as much as possible. useful featuresBut they still highlight them a very important detail - these are their moderate dimensions. The weight of this model is only 140 grams. Dimensions - 14.4 x 52.5 x 59.7 mm. Such indicators were achieved not only through the use of ultralight and durable titanium, but also through the introduction of a new triple sensor, which, compared to previous versionshas significantly smaller sizes.

Climbers. Each of them is the richest experience of using various projectiles, including hours.

Do you need a clock climb? Do modern sports watch help on climbing? What fun fun fun fun, and which are not used? Are the GPS tracking climbers write for subsequent analysis? Now I use climbing hours and in ordinary, urban life. On my hand Suunto Ambit 3, and I am quite pleased. What functions are more in demand? Well, of course, the altimeter, sometimes GPS is quenched. And cardiodeators for training, of course!

In general, I use watches not only in the mountains, but in any activity. At home I run with them, train. In Kyrgyzstan, this year he drove on great and cut out on Kayak ... I have the first hours, I wonder to test them in different conditions. Yes, it is even not a clock - it's a small wrist computer!

That's what was a pleasant surprise in my clock, so this is what GPS really works. I went with a clock in the forest, specially tested, along with my main navigator - Garmin 62, and the navigator in the clock is an absolutely adequate kid.

Basically, the watches completely replace many separate devices. Navigator with a normal display, of course, more convenient, but on ascent, if you do not blocked in milk, the small screen of sports clock is quite enough.

For training, by the way, the clock is generally an indispensable thing, especially in combination with a cardiodeatter. When I started following the body's reaction with their help, this watch was discovered for me on a lot of eyes, along with the GPS.

In general, the device does not fail. Of course, sometimes a altimeter is lying. Well, and they do not need to charge them, so as not to sit on the route, and so - even there are no complaints about them.

Everything is very functional and will suit anyone. The earlier you begin to conduct competent control of workouts and other movements, the earlier will gather statistics that will allow you to better understand your body, and plan loads both in training and in the mountains.

Kirill Belotserkovsky

I use sports clock for a long time and constantly, where without them in the mountains? I always monitor time, often use alarm clock, stopwatch. Often I look at the barometer and the thermometer, the weather on the ascents is the subject of constant control, in the mountains it changes instantly. Occasionally turn on the altimeter.

Previously, I had sunto altimax watch, moisture-proof and frost-resistant, simple and universal. Now I distinguish your workout clock and for climbing. In training rarely I take clock, I have a simple Sigma pulsometer, it is light. But on the climbing and for everyday socks on my hand today Casio Pro Trek watches. I like them absolutely to me. The only drawback is a metal case, the hand in them sometimes will shine.

Compass, by the way, never used in the past watches, nor in the current ones.

And the most cool, which is in my clock is a solar battery. And orange strap! :)

As for the navigator - it is not in my clock, and I don't really need it. We, in Tuyuk-Su, everything is somehow simple: you want to get away from the camp - go up the valley, you want to go back - shouted down. Therefore, I do not know how long the clock can replace the navigator. Of course, he knows how to write tracks, but the trackster is also not very needed. I do not write them.

Among my acquaintances are novice climbers acting, and those who have already completed, on the clock are increasingly watching time. The remaining functions are rarely used. But damn it, what are we for climbers, if we can not say anytime, at what height are located?!

Alexey Trubachev

Of course, I use sports climbing hours. Moreover, I do not wear hours outside the climbing programs, but their presence on the route is obligatory not only for yourself, but also for customers.

The most demanded function at the watch is to show time! Everything else is nice additions, but secondary.

If we talk about where the clock is more often needed, then in training, I don't use the clock for hours. But on ascent, I need to control the time and orientation in space, so I never forgotten the clock in the tent!

Navigator, of course, is good, but personally, I think that in the clock it is absolutely an extra function. The main problem with GPS modules in the clock is that they have high power consumption and eat a charge that can be vital for other functions. In addition, none of the manufacturers did not have a full-fledged navigator in the clock, and those grills, which can be placed in such a compact device as a clock, do not differ particularly useful functionality. In short, the navigator in the mountains is necessary, but my opinion is that it should be a full-fledged separate device.

With tracks the same story. If I analyze all my tracks, I will not have time. The meaning of analyzing your own track, probably some kind of, but for a professional guide with the intensity of walking 3-4 climb a week - it sounds like a joke!

I had a few hours, usually, when they bored me or outdated, I give them to someone and buy more modern. Now I have Casio Pro Trek PRW 3000, before that I used others from the same line. I think this the lineup The manufacturer has the most optimal quality ratio, price and reliability. I will change only if these again give someone as it was with all my previous clocks.

Move me this watch only time - when I forgot them on the bedside table and almost late for the plane due to the fact that I had to come back, without having an accurate instrument on the hand to refer time! There were no more trouble with these clocks.

The clock is constantly measured by the absolute air pressure using the built-in pressure sensor. Based on these measurements and control values, a height is calculated above sea level (altimeter or Alti) or air pressure at sea level (barometer or BARO).

In the clock, three Alti-Baro profile are used: altimeter, barometer or automatic. The clock uses the default automatic profile to interpret the air pressure changes, for example, when changing the height above sea level or weather, depending on movements and pressure testimony.

When writing the exercise, you can change the profile to optimize the testimony of the pressure sensor.

If the exercise is associated with a change in height above sea level (for example, when hiking in the mountains), you must select a high-volume profile.

If an exercise with a change in height above sea level is not connected (for example, running along the route), you must select a barometer profile.

IN additional parameters In Movescount, you can set a specific profile for each sports mode.
