All Xiaomi smartphones have standard application SMS with which you can send SMS and MMS. Although we live in the heyday of messengers of all kinds, the ability to send and receive SMS messages has not lost its importance. In this article, we will introduce the basic and hidden functions of the SMS app and teach you how to SMS like a pro.
1. Basic actions with SMS dialogs
Open the SMS app. A window will open where all SMS are sorted by dialogs according to contacts. Click on any dialog and hold for half a second until editing mode opens. In it, you can block the sender so that you no longer receive SMS from him, you can, on the contrary, pin the dialogue in order to have fast access to it, and of course you can delete the dialog. The above actions will apply to those dialogs that you select. You can also select all dialogs.
2. Search SMS
It is very easy to find the required SMS. It is enough to click on the search bar, which is located at the top of all dialogs. If you can't see it, then swipe up slightly, sometimes it can just be hidden.
After you have entered search query, the application shows all dialogs in which the search word or letters were found, and these words are highlighted. When we select the desired result, the selected dialog immediately opens, in which the searched letters and words are again highlighted so that it is easier for you to find them on the screen. Searching helps a lot if you have a long important correspondence or just a lot of dialogues, and you don't want to scroll manually.
3. Full screen SMS
Sometimes on the go it is not at all convenient to peer at what they wrote to you in SMS. For such cases, the MIUI team has specifically added a small but very useful feature. Double click not SMS and it will open full screen.
4. Private SMS
If you need to hide the correspondence from other eyes, then drag down until a new window of private SMS opens.
5. Write SMS to several people and groups
You can write SMS to several people at once or even a whole group. When you start writing SMS, you can select several recent contacts in the "To" field. And if you click on the contact icon in the upper right, you will be taken to the recipient selection menu from your notebook... There you can select the contacts themselves, sorted alphabetically or recent, and entire groups.
6. Send template SMS, video and music
Attach to message function different pictures, video and audio recordings are extremely popular in all modern instant messengers and are almost forgotten in SMS. However, in MIUI SMS the application, despite all its external simplicity and minimalism, is very functional and allows you to send a whole list of media files and other useful data types. To get started, go to the dialogue and start writing SMS. In the center you will have an input field, to the right of it is a button for sending a message, but on the left is a button with a plus sign - what we need. Click on it and instead of the keyboard, a window will appear in which icons for the types of attachments that can be attached to the message are located. So, by clicking on the icon with the inscription vCard, you can add contact details from your notebook by clicking on the button that says Images, go to the selection of pictures, then Take a photo will switch you to the camera, Favorites will open a list of favorite images, Nick will send a nickname, and Timer will allow you to send a message at any time you specify. Note that a group message can also be set on the timer.
In the SMS application, the function of sending template SMS is also available. To go to the menu for sending a template message when writing an SMS, just swipe to the left. There you can choose from existing templates and customize your own. If you need to send an audio or video message, write a very large message, or even split the message into slides, then scroll to the right and you will be taken to the corresponding window.
7. Operations over SMS - copy, forward, favorites
Open a dialog and press and hold the desired message until the edit mode opens. In it, as always, you can select one, several or all messages. There will be four buttons at the bottom. By pressing the button Forward, the selected message is automatically copied and pasted into the new message, where you just have to select the recipient. Button Copy just copies the text of the message, no fiction, however, like the button Delete just deletes the selected messages. More interesting functionality is hidden behind the last button Yet... Click this button and a menu will open where you can add a message To favorites, learn about him detailed information, save attachment if there is one, and save message to SIM card.
Why don't SMS come to Xiaomi?

In some cases, on Xiaomi smartphones, in particular Redmi note 3 Pro, no SMS messages come or go. There may be several reasons for this "behavior" of the phone. And it is advisable to check all of them in order to accurately exclude the problem.
But first, be sure to restart your phone and try again - maybe it's a normal freeze? If it does not help, perhaps the problem will be solved by one of the methods below.
Is the SIM card working?
Sometimes it happens that the point is not at all in the phone, but directly in the card. Therefore, before scoffing at the device, it is better to take and test it on another device. On which SMS messages work exactly. Just rearrange and try to send and receive.
It should be remembered that if the card was replaced for some reason (for example, a universal card was purchased instead of cutting the old one under new format), you cannot receive or send messages from it. Typically, the limit is in effect for 24 hours to protect the client.
Setting up an SMS center
In each region, different operators have their own identifier numbers. Roughly speaking, they help them send SMS messages over the network. And these numbers must be driven into Xiaomi, if he did not do it automatically. Sometimes it happens that the smartphone has an incorrect SMS center number.
You can find this section in the settings like this:
1. Go to "Settings";
2. Find "System Applications" there;
3. Select "Messages";
4. Tap on "Additional";
5. Open the "SMS-center number".
Upon opening it will be possible to change this number. It is advisable to find out about it directly from the operator by calling hotline... Because the information on the network may be out of date, and entering the number will not help. A call center mobile operator will definitely provide the most up-to-date information for a specific region.
Black list
If you do not receive messages from several specific numbers, but with others everything is fine, you should check the "Black List", which is located in the "Security" section. Perhaps these numbers accidentally ended up there, so messages from them do not come.
Disallow background processes
Sometimes it happens that Xiaomi blocks background processes including the SMS application. This happens especially often when maximum settings energy saving - when the user turns off everything background applications and generally tries to make the smartphone live as long as possible.
Therefore, you should go to "Settings" and find "Performance and battery", and there - "Power consumption by applications". The path may differ depending on the version of the Xiaomi smartphone.
Here you need to select the power saving mode. If it is "Standard" or "Enhanced", then there is a chance that messages will be accidentally disabled. So it's worth sacrificing a few tens of minutes of battery life and choosing the "Off" mode. And don't forget to close unnecessary applications manually.
What to do if messages in Xiaomi won't open at all?
If there is such a trick that the messaging application completely refuses to work, does not open, or immediately crashes, you can try to do a few things:
Change the font size to standard. Sometimes, due to a font change in Xiaomi settings messages can fly out. Therefore, it is worth returning everything as it was;
Sometimes a smartphone may require "activation" of messages, not wanting to work without it. Therefore, you should look into the "Settings", select "System applications" there, open the item "SMS / MMS". Already in this section, find the cherished "Mi messages" and tap on the "Activate" button;
Return to phone English and accept all requests of the SMS app. Initially, Xiaomi does not support Russian. The Chinese just tried to reach a larger market and introduced our language "at the request of the workers." But because of this, sometimes errors occur. For example, you need to open the application and accept a few questions from Xiaomi, without which it will not work. But the language does not allow. Therefore, returning to the original position will help open the SMS program itself, where you just need to accept a few permissions. And everything should work. Then you can return the Russian language.
If all else fails, you can check the Xiaomi smartphone with some kind of antivirus. It is possible that something in the network has "stuck" to the device and is now blocking important functions. Including messages.
The problem is in the firmware
If the card is definitely working, and nothing else helps, you should look for a problem with the phone. Most often, it is contained in the firmware. Sometimes the Chinese release frankly buggy versions, and they start working after fixes - installation new version MIUI.
But the words "firmware update", although they sound scary, do not carry anything complicated in themselves. Because in the settings there is a special button for this. It is enough to find it and press it. Then the Xiaomi smartphone will do everything by itself.
Reset
If there are no more options left, you can try doing a factory reset. Unfortunately, in this case, all information from the phone will be permanently deleted. That's why good decision will copy it somewhere. It is also advisable to remove the SIM card and memory card.
And then turn the phone back on, go to "Settings" and in the "Restore and reset" section, tap on the "Reset settings" button. And wait a bit. If the problem was twisted parameters, then it should be fixed.
Below is a list of those programs that you can remove without risking damage to the system, as well as their given short description and it is noted whether they affect the speed of the system.
To delete system applications, Root rights are required.
- BugReport... Submits error reports. Affects the speed of the device.
- CloudPrint... Application virtual printer... Does not affect speed.
- Email... Quite an acceptable client Email from Xiaomi. If you use it, then there is simply no point in deleting it. Well, if you use a third-party mail client, then feel free to delete.
- Fasdormancy... This feature is only available for certain European and Asian mobile operators. Read about it on the Internet and check if your mobile operator supports it. No - delete. Affects speed.
- FingerprintService... The second branded virtual printer from Xiaomi. Does not affect speed.
- MiLinkService... Very useful application from Xiaomi, which allows devices on MIUI to exchange files with each other. If you don't use it, delete it. Does not affect speed.
- PrintSpooler... Specialty stamps used with virtual printers. Does not affect speed.
- QuikSearchBox... Branded search from Xiaomi, which opens by swiping down from the top of the screen. There is a bit of a curve in use, so you can remove it. Does not affect speed.
- StepsProvider... Add-on to the pedometer app. Affects speed.
- Stk. Service menu from a mobile operator. If your operator does not support this function, you can delete it. Affects speed.
- Updater... Allows you to update the firmware, and very often gets bored with its reminders. Feel free to delete. Doesn't affect the speed, but rather the usability of the smartphone.
- Whetstone... Submitting error reports that relate to processor performance. Quite often the application "wakes up" the smartphone - we can safely delete it. Affects speed.
Some standard programs, which can also be deleted, are located in the directory system / priv-app... We go there and look: 
- Browser... Official Xiaomi browser... Contains too much "Chinese" - you can delete and put an alternative. Does not affect speed.
- Viset... Russian browser, which is available only in some firmware. If you also have it installed, it is better not to delete it, since it is completely Russified, has a lot of settings and works pretty quickly. Does not affect speed.
- CellBroadcastReceiver... Alert for emergencies that are most common in Asia. Affects speed.
- GoogleFeedBack... Official Google reviews. Affects speed.
- Shell... Component operating system MIUI, which contains data about the operation of the shell (error reports, etc.), and then sends it to some server. You can delete. Affects speed.
- YellowPage... Yellow Pages program. Shows data about your corporate accounts. Affects speed.
- Weather... Weather forecast server. Enough good program, the interface is pleasant, there are a lot of settings. For an amateur. Does not affect speed.

Remove system applications MIUI 7
We follow the path system / app and we find ourselves in the folder with the main system applications. This is where we begin to get rid of those applications that, in my opinion, are not needed in the system.
Below are the applications that are uninstalled without consequences. I note that everyone has this list is individual and depends on whether you use services from xiaomi or not, and also depends on the firmware version and localizations (multirom, xiaomi.eu, miui.su, miui.pro, copyright solutions). I am using services from xiaomi, so the list is rather narrow. I will also try to indicate which applications are present on different versions firmware.
SYSTEM / APP
BugReport- Submitting bug reports (present on all versions) - To optimize
CloudPrint2- Virtual printer. I do not need it and will need it (7.1.2.0 - 7.1.3.0 is missing) - does not affect optimization
Email- Enough universal application mail from Xiaomi. If you use it, then there is no point in getting rid of it. I don't need corporate email support, especially since I'm using another application, so I'm deleting it. (on all firmware versions, some copyright exceptions) - does not affect optimization
Fastdormancy- This function, if I understand correctly, is used by mobile operators in Europe and Asia. You can read about technology on the Internet. After reading it, I realized that my cellular operator does not support it. And it can also drain the battery charge quite strongly if there is no operator support. Definitely "under the knife." (only observed xiaomi.eu and latest version from multirom) - to optimize
MiLinkService- "useful" feature for devices from Xiaomi. Allows you to transfer files between devices from Xiaomi. Overkill for me. Removed. (Present on all versions except some copyrighted ones) - does not affect optimization
PrintSpooler- printing. Take into account the same as with other services from the "virtual printer". (Present on all versions except some copyrighted ones) - does not affect optimization
QuickSearchBox – Quick search from Xiaomi, which appears if you swipe up from the bottom of the screen. I tried it and realized that it was a little crooked to use. Alternative to Google Now. Works great, responds clearly to the challenge. In short, I recommend it. (Present on all versions except some copyrighted ones) - does not affect optimization
StepsProvider- this service was not available in previous builds. Perhaps responsible for the pedometer. I don’t understand why it was added. Removed. (Observed on 7.2.4.0 and 7.2.7.0 from xiaomi.eu) - to optimize
Stk- service application from cellular operator... MTS Belarus has little in this application useful functions... I just removed it, but it's better to freeze it in Titanium, otherwise after full reset to the factory settings, there may be problems with the network detection. Updater- Firmware update via system application. Many people ask “How to disable incoming notifications on the appearance of a new software version ". We delete and forget about it.

As for the DEV firmware, this application cannot be deleted, otherwise the phone is blocked and asks for the login and password of the MI account. But after entering it hung up on check. I set it up and realized that the browser is very smart. Flash support. I just replaced the version from xiaomi.eu with the version from the firmware 7.1.2.0 from Viset (got up without problems). Shell- Part of the MIUI shell, which stores summaries and logs of the shell, which are later sent somewhere. Deleted, tested, no problems identified. (in the comments they say that after deletion, they do not have developer mode). Fine. In addition, I will say that removing this service helps to get rid of process "Shell", which hangs in memory and sometimes loads the processor quite heavily.

Weather, WeatherProvider- Weather and weather server. The application is good, it differs from different editions (localizations). Suppose the temperature graph of the Multirom is made in the form of sinusoidal curves. It looks great. However, more often than not in the forecast, instead of the usual units for measuring wind speed and atmospheric pressure, there are km / h and Pa, respectively. I uninstall and install an alternative Weather BZ... IMHO the best weather app. Looks familiar, integrates perfectly into standard weather widgets, as well as custom themes and lock screens. (Present on all versions except some copyrighted ones) - does not affect optimization
