In this case, we get only 1 file (if the book is not longer than 13 hours), which will always be played from the place where you left off, where you can place bookmarks and tables of contents for easy navigation through the book, while chapters can be assigned individual illustrations or covers. For people familiar with the MKV video container (matryoshka doll), this principle will be familiar and understandable, everyone else should try it, I think you will be satisfied.

You can listen to such books on any IDEVICE (iPod, iPad, iPhone), on your Mac in iTunes or VideoLAN player, on some non-Apple audio players and smartphones, and for Windows users there is Windows Media Player 9 and higher or foobar2000.

So, how do we convert an inconvenient bunch of mp3s into the m4b library format? There are special applications of varying degrees of payment. Let's consider a few.

After adding files (or exporting from AudioCD), you can give names/titles to chapters, subchapters and assign a separate illustration to each chapter (if necessary).

If the added files had correctly written tags, then the name is imported automatically. In the absence of tag information, the title of the chapter will be given by the file name. A little handmade renaming will not hurt, if you need it of course.

Sometimes there are long chapters, and in mp3 they are divided into several files. You can leave it as it is, or you can assemble it into one chapter by selecting these files and clicking on the button with the image of a "lightning bolt". If you change your mind, before converting, you can always “take it apart” with the button next to it.

Before switching to the third, final tab, we check with our eyes that the order of the files is correct. Suddenly, when adding, some files have changed places, this can easily happen with drag&drop. If you see a mess, you can easily restore justice by simply dragging and dropping inside the playlist.

Also here you can set the duration of a part of the book if the total length is more than 13 hours. The interface is simpler, has only 2 pages. On the first one, we set the title of the book and the author and add files through the Finder (using the +- buttons in the lower left corner of the program window) or the traditional drag&drop.

But now the management here is not as simple and clear as that of Audiobook Builder.
The process looks like this: By adding media files we create chapters. Simple renaming is not provided here. We must enable the function in the program menu of the Chapter "Add content", one chapter will immediately appear with the total time of the entire book. It is unlikely that this will suit us. We select a chain of 1 chapter files (or 1 file if 1 chapter equals 1 file) and in the same menu Chapters click on function "Combine"- get a new chapter. Thus, by selecting groups of files, we create chapters. Once created, they can be named appropriately and arranged in the desired order by dragging them around the playlist.

As you can see, the process is more troublesome, but not complicated.

What we don't have: automatic creation of chapters when files are added, export of their tag data, addition of illustrations and chapter covers, and more inconvenient creation of a playlist. There is also no export from AudioCD (well, God bless him).

But, as practice shows, in 90% of cases, users do not often use these functions. So, given that the program is free, the loss is not big.

On the second tab, we only have the opportunity to add a cover and that's it.
