If you're willing to risk your laptop's speakers, go for it.

For the rest, I suggest using the loudness option, as well as using software tools that can amplify the sound qualitatively. If nothing helps at all, then I would advise you to contact the service center - it is quite possible that the cause of the quiet sound in your laptop is the hardware problems of the sound card.
