Sales of the LG Optimus G device began not in Russia quite a long time ago (in November in the USA and Canada), and given its technical characteristics at that time, the G could be considered the fastest Android smartphone. Interestingly, the South Korean company (LG Electronics), together with the American Google, also began selling a Google phone called the Nexus 4, which, in turn, almost completely copied the parameters of the Optimus G, and also had latest version Android 4.2 and cheaper! However, the demand for the brainchild of LG and Google was so great that the production capacity of the Koreans simply could not cope and the phone was in short supply.

In Russia Nexus 4 began to be sold since January of this year, and Optimus G appeared in February. The first gadget went on sale at a price of 20,000 rubles, and the second - 25,000 rubles. Naturally, such a pricing policy caused bewilderment, because LG's direct competitor, Samsung, offered the Galaxy S III (certified) for 20,000 - 21,000 rubles. While people were deciding what to buy and how much, LG released an even more sophisticated smartphone in its home market - Optimus G Pro: 5-inch screen, FullHD resolution and so on. And the Optimus G model somehow smoothly turned from a flagship device into (if I may say so) a semi-flagship one. However, until the “proshka” appeared with us, it makes sense to consider in detail the “Gee”, especially since the price for it slowly began to decline and this moment stopped at around 20,000 rubles (PCT).

Design, dimensions, controls

It would be strange if LG did not try to use the design concept in its new device Google Nexus 4. I think few people will argue that for a long time it was the appearance of the “nexus” that caused so many emotions!

The body shape of the Optimus G, unlike the Nexus 4, is rectangular with slightly bevelled corners. Personally, I like devices of this form: visually, the device acquires a slightly more strict appearance. However, the Nexus is more comfortable in the hand due to the rounded edges. In addition, the edging of the “Googlephone” has a “soft-touch” coating, so the smartphone practically does not slip in your hand. The Optimus G has a glossy sidewall. But first things first.

Dimensions "Optimus" - 131.9x68.9x8.5 mm, i.e. quite compact and relatively thin, since the Nexus has the following dimensions - 133.9x68.7x9.1 mm. Their weight differs minimally: 145 grams for G and 139 grams for the “four”. Smartphone samsung galaxy The S III is lighter (133 grams, which is no wonder - solid plastic), but 5 millimeters higher, a couple of millimeters wider and slightly thicker (0.1 mm).

A thin chrome strip runs along the LG edge. Painted, frankly, not very high quality: over time, the paint will peel off and expose the dark-colored plastic. On the other hand, it looks cool, reminiscent of metal.

Between the back cover and the piping are two more plastic strips in black and light gray (slightly thicker than the first). The side faces smoothly pass to the back side. Thus, the edges protrude slightly above the surface and protect back cover from damage. Plastic glossy, black, quite high quality in appearance. Like the Nexus 4, the Optimus G boasts an original back design. The first thing worth noting is the coating of the back of the case: the second-generation Gorilla Glass glass is practically not scratched, but like any glass, it is very fragile, so it can be broken if handled carelessly. The same story was with the iPhone 4/4S. Under the glass is a glossy panel with small squares. And if you look closely, you will notice that they consist of microscopic notches applied at different angles. However, the pattern on the G is different from the pattern on the Nexus. On the first one, it is made evenly, and on the second one, according to a certain scheme, so that under various tilts of the phone in the light you observe the “matrix” effect. It's sad that LG decided not to use a similar effect. Interestingly, Samsung in its flagship Galaxy S IV designed the back cover in much the same way. True, SGS IV is not glass, but plastic.

Fingerprints remain both on the front panel and on the back of the case. However, they are practically invisible and are easily erased.

The assembly of the Optimus G is of high quality, there is nothing to complain about. Separately, it should be said that the case is monolithic, there are no collapsible parts in it (unless you specifically unscrew the cross-shaped fixing screws). Accordingly, the battery is built-in. This will upset someone, and someone will give up. Personally, I don’t care at all: if a problem arises, I’ll contact service center. Another reason, alas, to overpay ("gray" is cheaper, although slightly), but to protect yourself from the difficulties associated with the SC.

Front camera, light and proximity sensors, speaker, as well as the "event indicator" are located on the top of the front panel. The light sensor smoothly adjusts the backlight level of the matrix, correctly adjusting the brightness. The proximity sensor did not fail during testing, blocking the screen from accidental touches in time. At the top in the center is a speaker, covered with a thin black metal mesh. Its volume is very high, often had to be made quieter. Mainly listened to medium and high frequencies. The tone is pleasant extraneous noise missing, no echo. The only thing I didn't really like was the location of the speaker - a little high, almost on the verge: every time I had to choose the angle of the phone so that the sound evenly hit the ear.

Under the screen are three touch buttons "Back", "Menu" and "Home". Without illumination, they are practically invisible, they are applied with a dark gray translucent paint, thin. The brightness is low.

At the bottom there is a microUSB without a plug and a hole where the main microphone is hidden. On the top there is an additional microphone for noise reduction (when recording video, the sound is mono) and a standard 3.5 mm audio output for headphones.

The slot for installing a microSIM card is located on the left side: we put a paper clip into a small hole, remove the compartment, insert the SIM card and install the holder back. A little higher is the volume rocker. It is made in the style of the case design: thin, one part is chrome-plated, the other is lacquered in black. On the right side - the same type of on / off button, it also acts as a lock and activate the screen backlight. It is slightly convex, the pressure is soft, in general, comfortable - it fits exactly under the thumb of the right hand.

The camera module is located on the back side. The shape of the frame is square: the lower border is chrome-plated, a little higher - glossy black plastic and protective glass lens. The module rises by about 1.5 mm. Below it is a flash. The speaker is on the bottom right.

In general, I really liked the design, everything is good with ergonomics, the assembly is excellent. From point of view appearance and the workmanship of the case LG Optimus G 100% looks like a flagship - premium and expensive.

By the standards of modern technology, the diagonal of the LG G smartphone is ordinary, I would say standard - 4.7 inches. But the resolution at the moment is not the highest - 768x1280 (WXGA) pixels. But, again, we must take into account that the device began to be sold in November last year, and soon we will probably have a G Pro with an increased diagonal and resolution.

The pixel density of the Optimus screen is 312 ppi. Used here IPS matrix, but LG decided to show off, so they used the True HD marketing prefix. If you think that the Optimus G matrix is the same as on the Nexus 4, then you are wrong. The developers squeezed the maximum out of this technology and, plus everything, applied, I believe, their own “software” image enhancement, much like Sony did in TVs and smartphones (Bravia Engine). "Eldzhishniki" not only fine-tuned the color gamut of the display, but also added contrast and sharpness. It is sharpness, not clarity, since the latter can only be done by increasing the resolution. Therefore, the picture on the LG Optimus G screen looks as sharp and contrast as possible, in some cases the second parameter is redundant, i.e. small details are lost, for example, when viewing photos. Otherwise, the Optimus G display behaves as standard: at angles, the brightness slightly decreases, if tilted to the left, the image gets a purple tint, and to the right - yellow.

On average, the device worked for about 15 hours (brightness - "automatic"): 15-20 minutes of calls per day, sending 20 text messages, 5-7 hours of internet surfing (3G connection).

The phone works in cellular networks 2G (850/900/1800/1900), 3G (850/900/1700/1900/2100) and LTE (800/900/1800/2100/2600). Speed DC-HSDPA, 42 Mbps, HSDPA - up to 21 Mbps, HSUPA - up to 5.76 Mbps.

Video camera records in FullHD resolution at 30 frames per second, regardless of lighting conditions. Autofocus is active during shooting. Works correctly enough, ie. if it cannot determine the focus, it sets it to infinity, rather than "floats". The sound is clear, the volume is high. Despite the presence of a second microphone, the sound is mono for some reason.

Speaker volume is slightly above average. If you put LG on a horizontal surface, then the volume will drop by 50 percent, if you cover it with your hand - by 90.

Before the LG Optimus G began to fall in price, I was extremely skeptical, since 25,000 rubles for this product was a very high price. Now the device is available for 19,000 - 20,000 rubles, so the impression is completely different.

Personally, I liked the design and materials of the case, the quality of the camera, the unusual screen with high contrast and sharpness, nice software features (animation of the lock screen and the main screen, QuickMemo and QSlide). Separately, it is worth noting that high speed of the interface that it can only be compared with Nexus 4.

There was one significant minus - the price, but as I said, it has decreased. Of the minor ones - the poor quality of a standard music player, heating of the case when the processor is under load (almost all powerful smartphones), the lack of a slot for installing microSD. Perhaps everything.
