Connection d link dir 320. Old horse, does not spoil the furrow

At home or in small office. Moreover, with its help, you can implement both a wireless connection of devices, and using a twisted pair. In the latter case, a limitation is imposed: there are only 4 ports, that is how many devices can be connected.

Equipment

The following equipment boasts D-Link DIR-320:

    user manual;

  • power supply with non-removable cord and plug;

    meter twisted pair, crimped at both ends with the corresponding lugs;

    a disk with drivers and an electronic version of the documentation for the router.

Appearance and purpose of connection elements, indication and control

Displayed on the front of the device information panel, which consists of the following LED indicators:

    Power: glows continuously during operation and indicates that the device is connected to the network.

    Status: During normal operation of the router, it constantly blinks. If it is lit continuously, an error has occurred and the device needs to be restarted.

    Internet: may simply glow continuously (when connected, but no data is being exchanged) or blinking (when connected and transmitting information).

    The next 4 ports are wired. When there is a connection, they are constantly lit, and when data is being exchanged, they flash. If the port is not used during operation, then the corresponding indicator is disabled.

    The last LED is linked to the printer. It simply lights up continuously when a printer is connected, and blinks while the document is being output.

The following communication and control elements are located on the rear side of the device:

    antenna wireless connection;

    USB port for printer connection;

    4 LAN ports for creating a wired part of the LAN;

    input port for connecting twisted pair from the provider;

    socket for connecting the power supply;

    Reset button to reboot the router.

Choosing a place to install a network device

At the first stage, we choose the right place for installation. And here everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. On the one hand, all wires should be suitable for the installation site of the router, there should be a power outlet nearby. On the other hand, it is most correct to place the router in the center of the room: this will provide excellent transmission and reception speeds, high level WiFi signal. The router should also not be placed near metal sheets that can dampen the signal. wireless network. Based on the recommendations given earlier, you need to choose the location of the router.

Sequence D-Link DIR-320

The order of this network device model is as follows:

    we collect a temporary scheme for the first initial setting;

    turn on the device and configure it properly;

    we analyze the timeline;

    install the router in a permanent place;

    we assemble a permanent scheme of the local area network;

    turn on the router;

    we test the correctness of the settings in the wired network segment;

    We check the performance of the Wi-Fi wireless network.

The router can also be configured at a permanent location, provided that a computer is constantly connected to it by wire. Since this condition cannot always be met, it is recommended to do the setting in 2 stages.

Temporary connection for configuration

The next stage of setup D-Link router DIR-320 is a timing circuit collection for configuring a network device. To do this, install it next to a PC or laptop. We use the complete crimped one to connect the computer and the router to each other. We install one end of it in the port network card PC, and the second in any of the 4-wire ports of the router (but not the one that is designed to exchange data with the provider's equipment). We install the power supply in any nearest free outlet, and the cord from it into the power socket of the router. The timeline is ready.

Set parameters

Now you need to set the software d-link settings DIR-320. To do this, we do the following:

    turn on the connected computer and router;

    we are waiting for the computer and network device to finish loading;

    launch any of the browsers available on the PC;

    in the address bar of the browser, we type the combination of numbers 192.168.000.001 (this is network address our router) and press Enter;

    in response, a request will appear with a login and, of course, a password. In the first field, enter admin. Leave the second field empty for the first time. If this is not the first launch, then enter the password in the second field that was previously set;

    in the router settings interface that opens, select the “Connection Setup Wizard” item;

    then set a new administrator password and confirm it, if necessary;

    at the next stage, you need to set the connection settings for the provider's network equipment. This data is provided by the Internet service provider and is usually specified in the contract. This includes the type of connection (for example, PPPoE or L2TP), login and password for establishing a connection (if required), network address static or dynamic;

    after all necessary settings press the Connect button. The router will then reboot;

    after rebooting the router, go to the previously given method in the setup menu and select the item "Wireless Network Setup Wizard";

    then set the name of the wireless network at your discretion;

    the next step is to set the wireless network password. Again, at your own discretion;

    save the changes and force reboot the router.

    The preliminary setup is over, you can turn off the computer and network device and disassemble the timing diagram.

    Install the router in a permanent place and connect

    Now install the D-Link DIR-320 router on permanent place, which most optimally corresponds to the previously given conditions. We pull all wired communications here: twisted pair from the provider and other devices that connect to the LAN in this way. We connect the incoming wire from the Internet service provider to the Internet port. In the remaining 4 ports we connect the equipment that will use a wired connection. We install the power supply in the socket, its cord to the router socket. After fully collecting the permanent circuit and checking the correctness of the connections, turn on the router.

    Checking the wired LAN segment

    After the D-Link DIR-320 NRU router boots up, you can test the wired part of the LAN. To do this, on any computer connected to the router using a twisted pair, go to the network settings (Start\Control Panel\Network Connections). Next, create a new connection and save it. We close all windows. We launch any browser and enter any Internet address and press Enter. After that it should open start page. If this does not happen, we check the settings, which must be configured to automatically obtain a network address.

    Testing the wireless part of the local area network

    Next, you need to check the functionality of the wireless WiFi connections. The D-Link DIR-320 router allows you to use it to transfer information at speeds up to 54 Mbps. The order of connection in this case is as follows:

      The router must be turned on and in working mode, and not in the boot phase.

      On any mobile device Activate the Wi-Fi transmitter.

      We go into the "Settings" of the device, select WLAN and click on the "Search" button. When completed, a complete list of all available wireless LANs will appear.

      We select exactly the network whose name was specified at the configuration stage and connect to it. When prompted for a password, enter it. At the same time, it is important not to confuse the administrator password on the D-Link DIR -320 and the password for accessing the wireless network. It is necessary to enter the second one, and they must be different.

      In the future, the color of the Wi-Fi indicator should change: two triangles should appear on it.

    Summary

    After the configuration of the D-Link DIR-320 router, this network device will serve you for more than one year. This operation, as a rule, has to be performed only at the first start-up of the equipment. In the future, it functions with the given values, and there should not be any problems with it.

D-Link routers are very popular among users. Therefore, instructions for setting up, setting a password, solving some problems, etc. are always relevant. In this article, we will set a password for Wi-Fi on a D-Link router. I will show the whole process using the example of the D-link DIR-615 router model, which we configured in the article. In the instructions for setting up certain models, I always try to write about setting a password for a wireless network. But, a general article for all D-Link models will not hurt.

Following this instruction, you can set a password for D-link DIR-300, DIR-615, DIR-320 and other models. Unless there is different versions firmware that differ in interface. Therefore, we will consider several options.

As for the question of installing protection on a Wi-Fi network, then it is necessary to set a password. And preferably during the first setup. Believe me, there are many who want to join. And this is an extra load on the router, low speed connections, and it's not safe. It may even be that by connecting to your network, a third party will gain access to your files. Now, if you don’t have a password right now, you can look at. If your network is open for a long time, then I am sure that you will see not only your devices there.

Therefore, I advise you to come up with a good password, be sure to remember it (or write it down), and protect your home network.

Instructions for setting a password on the Wi-Fi network of a D-Link router

Actually, nothing is difficult. First, go to the router settings. It is advisable to connect to the router via cable. But, if this is not possible, then you can use Wi-Fi (if there are any problems after installation, then see the solutions at the end of this article).

In the settings, go to the tab WiFi - Security Settings (if you have English language menu, then change it to Russian). Drop down menu Network Authentication set WPA2-PSK. In field PSK Encryption Key enter the password that will be used to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Just come up with a more complex one than mine "123456789" :) The password must be at least 8 characters long.

In chapter "WPA Encryption Settings" do not change anything, just click on the button Apply.

If your control panel is different from the one I have in the screenshot above, then you can try .

If you do not want to update the software, then here's another instructions for installing protection on D-link with older firmware (light interface) :

In settings go to the tab Set up manually.

Then open the tab WiFi and Security Settings.

Set a password, save the settings, and reboot the router.

And another instruction for firmware with a dark interface:

Save the settings and reboot the router.

What should I do if I can't connect to Wi-Fi after setting a password?

A very popular problem is when, after setting a Wi-Fi password, computers, phones, tablets, and other devices do not connect to the wireless network. On a computer, this is usually a well-known error. "The network settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements of this network", or "Windows could not connect to...". Mobile devices may simply not connect.

What should be done. You just need to delete the Wi-Fi network on the computer, forget it, and reconnect with the password that was set in the router settings. It is very easy to do this. I wrote about this in detail in this article:. If you have Windows 10, then see the instructions.

On mobile devices, you just need to click on the network, hold it for a while, and select Delete from the menu.

This manual shows and tells in detail how to set up a D-Link DIR-320 Wi-Fi router for Beeline and Rostelecom Internet.

Let's take a look at the following points step by step:

  • How to connect DIR-320 to Internet line and computer for setup
  • How to set up an L2TP connection for Beeline Internet and PPPoE for Rostelecom
  • How to set up a Wi-Fi password and wireless network name
  • Setting up IPTV television (Digital TV Beeline and Rostelecom).

So, everything you may need to configure this wireless router is here, you just have to read carefully.

How to connect a router

I'll start with how to properly connect a Wi-Fi router to configure it, since even here there are problems.

Behind the D-Link DIR-320, apart from power and a couple of buttons, there are five ports: 4 LAN and 1 Internet. It is to the last connector that you need to connect the cable of your Internet provider.

I also note that the setup itself will be easier if you perform it from the computer that is connected to the router by wires: connect one of the LAN ports on the device to the network card connector on the computer.

And the last two points:

  • When setting up the connection Beeline, Rostelecom or " High speed connection” on the computer should be broken. And after you set it up, don't run it either - the router itself will connect to the Internet.
  • If you are unable to enter the router settings, as described below,.

So, now you can proceed to the configuration itself.

Login to the settings web interface

To enter the D-Link DIR-320 settings, launch a browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, you should see a login and password request. Standard login and password, if you have not changed them before - admin(if the password is not suitable, then you will be “thrown” again to the password entry page. It may have been changed. Then you can reset the router to factory settings by pressing and holding the Reset button for 15-20 seconds).

After entering correctly, you will be on home page with basic device information. Click "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the page.

Setting up D-Link DIR-320 for Beeline

To configure the connection, in the "Network" item, select "WAN", a list of connections will open. At the bottom of the list, click "Add" and set the following Beeline Internet connection parameters:

  • Connection type - L2TP + Dynamic IP
  • Login, password - your Internet login data that you received from Beeline
  • VPN server address - tp.internet.beeline.ru

The rest of the settings do not need to be changed. Click "Save", after which the page with the list of connections will open again, and at the top there will be a notification with a one, click on it and click "Save".

Now, if you refresh the page, you should see that the newly created connection is in the "Connected" state, which means that the Internet is configured correctly and you can proceed to setting up the Wi-Fi network. Do not forget, the Beeline connection on the computer must be terminated.

On the advanced settings page, in the "Network" item, click "WAN". A list of connections will open, where there will be only one - click on it, and on next page click Remove. You will be returned to an already empty list of connections. Click "Add" and enter the following parameters for the Internet from Rostelecom:

  • Connection type - PPPoE
  • Username and password - Internet login data provided to you by Rostelecom

The remaining parameters can be left unchanged, click "Save". You will return to the list of connections. Please note that the "light bulb" is on at the top of the DIR-320 settings page, click on it and select "Save".

Refresh the page after a minute. If you see that the connection status has changed to “Connected”, then you did everything right and the Internet is already there, you can proceed to setting up Wi-Fi. Let me remind you that the connection of Rostelecom on the computer itself should be disabled.

Setting up a Wi-Fi network

In order to configure the wireless Wi-Fi network settings on the DIR-320, on the page with advanced settings in the Wi-Fi item, click "Basic Settings", on the page that appears, you can set your wireless network name (SSID) instead of the standard DIR-320.

Then save these settings and return to the "Wi-Fi" item, now you should select "Security Settings". This is where the Wi-Fi password is set. Recommended settings:

  • Network Authentication - WPA2-PSK
  • Encryption key PSK (password) - at least 8 characters, without Russian letters.

Save the settings, do not forget to also click "Save" at the top of the change indicator (light bulb). In general, the DIR-320 setup is complete.

TV setup

In order to customize digital television Beeline or Rostelecom, on the main page of the router settings, select "IPTV Setup Wizard", in it specify the port where the set-top box will be connected and save the settings. Connect the set-top box to the selected LAN port.

Connecting to the Internet is a technically complex operation. In turn, the client must also understand what type of connection he will use, what speeds he wants to receive and what he expects from a new connection.

D-Link router model Dir-320 has established itself as a reliable budget device with good functionality and near additional features missing in most cheap routers. If the user is looking for a router to distribute the Internet in an apartment or house, this will be the most the right choice in terms of price and quality ratio.

First of all, routers differ in the type of connection. D-Link Dir version uses fiber optic cable and FTTx technology to connect, the maximum transfer rate for this type of connection reaches 90 MB / s. This is enough to download an HD movie within one minute. But do not forget that the traffic speed is controlled by the operator and depends on the package ordered by the user.

There are several varieties of Dir-320 routers, the differences are in the color of the case. The functionality is the same, they are configured according to the same scheme.

As already mentioned, this is a budget model, so functions such as setting up a repeater (repeater) or setting up a torrent client on the router are not provided. But, using third-party firmware, some additional features are added that are not related to the hardware, for example, connecting a router D-link models Dir-320 in torrent client mode.

Appearance

The router is a rectangular "box" measuring 14x3x11 cm. It is made of rigid plastic with a glossy surface.

At the front of Dir is a panel that displays the status of connections. If you look at it from left to right, the first icon is responsible for connecting to the mains router Dir. Next comes the globe icon. It becomes active if a network cable is connected, that is, access to the Internet is obtained. It is followed by the Wi-Fi indicator, showing the distribution of the network from Dir. The next four computer icons show the number of connected users via Lan cable. The maximum possible number of clients, respectively, is four. And the last icon is responsible for the connection of the USB device with the router. Through the USB connector it is possible, for example, to directly connect the printer to the Dir-320.

Connectors and a button are built into the reverse side of the router Reset, as well as a power output, where the wire from the unit with a voltage of only 5V is connected. The Dir router has been assigned the third - the last - level of security and does not cause any harm to humans and pets.

Now directly about the Dir connectors. Let's start the review from right to left. The first input is Internet: the main cable with the Internet is connected to it, RJ-45 type connector. Next come similar inputs, but for connecting users to a PC. A local network is configured between them and the Dir modem.

It is possible to connect a computer to any free outlet, after which an IP address will be assigned to it by the DHCP server. Address information is viewed in the settings menu Modem Dir. The last connector is designed to connect other USB devices (printer, 3G router) to the Dir router. This is additional function. If you configure Dir, it is capable of transmitting traffic not through a cable.

Also in the picture you can see the antenna, in this configuration it is one. But there is enough power to distribute "wi-fi" on an area of 50-60 square meters, taking into account concrete walls, the presence of electrical wiring and other sources of duct pollution. If necessary, the antenna can be easily dismantled, replacing it with a more powerful one.

Connection and preparation for work

After the user has unpacked the router, it is necessary to assemble it. Included with it are: antenna, power supply and stand. The block is connected to the back of the Dir router, the connector is marked as “5V 2A”, that is, it works at a voltage of five volts. According to the instructions, the parts are first connected to the equipment, and only after that the power is connected to Dir.

Internet connection occurs in two ways: using the usual network cable, coming from the public network, or using a wireless USB 3/4 G-router connected to the USB connector near the antenna.

Now that the power is on and there is access to the network, you need to start and configure the D-link Dir-320 router for the first time. For initial setup, the Dir router must be connected to a laptop or PC via a regular Lan cable that is built into one of the four ports on the Dir router. Now let's go directly to the management of parameters.

Settings

After the circuit is assembled and everything is connected, the Dir router is turned on. By default, some settings D-link router Dir-320 are carried out automatically. For example, he takes the IP address 192.168.0.1 for himself, by which it is possible to connect to him in the future and make changes to the configuration. Here are some examples of automatic configuration.

Automatic setting

For the convenience of users, as well as the speed of connecting devices, an “Automatic Configuration Wizard” was added to the router menu: Wi-Fi, Internet (all PPPoE, PPTP protocols, connection via static, dynamic IP using 3G) and IPTV.

The wizard works in such a way that when adding any connection, the user does not need to fill out the configuration form at all. After saving the configurations set automatically, it will create a working network. A small exception is PPPoE network, since for its operation you will need to enter the data provided by the provider. Otherwise, the network will be created, but without Internet access.

Also, the "Setup Wizard" does not generate passwords, so the Wi-Fi network created with its help will be open to the public. The user is allowed to make changes to the configurations set by the Wizard, thus creating a convenient and flexible system interaction, which saves time, as well as items that are incomprehensible to the user, you do not have to look for information.

Connecting to the Internet manually using some providers as an example

Some providers provide access to the Internet directly only if the client has a username and password. For this they use Various types PPPoE connections, L2TP. In this case, you will need to fill in the necessary data and manually configure the D-link Dir-320 router.

For most providers, the connection methods will be different, but entering the router settings directly from the PC is always the same. If the Dir router is connected, as indicated in the previous section, you need to open any browser and enter the line: 192.168.0.1. The main window will open:

By default, the username and password are the same - admin. After authorization, it is possible to change it if you wish. If the password and login have not been changed, but access could not be obtained, you must reset the current settings. This is done by using the Reset button. When Dir is working, you should hold down the button until the lights on the panel simultaneously go out and turn on again. After that, the standard authentication data will definitely fit.

Now directly about configuring the Dir router for certain providers.

Home ru

This provider provides services along with the equipment. The company installs its own firmware on the router, so when buying named devices, there are no connection problems, and the procedure takes place in automatic mode. But there is one drawback: the Dir router cannot be used when switching to another provider. Therefore, it would be more correct to purchase a factory Dir and set it up manually.

First you need to go to the "Network" tab and view the presence of working WAN connections, if they work, select and delete. Then create a new one. The main thing is to select the type of connection during the connection process: for Dom.ru, this is PPPoE. The prefix PPP means that you will need to enter data provided by the provider to access. When signing the contract, the subscriber is given a “Username” and “Password” entered in the “PPP Settings” section.

The rest of the fields remain unchanged. "Service name" here any name is used. Add the created network and be sure to save the configuration so that it does not disappear after a reboot or power loss.

Rostelecom

Rostelecom also offers its users a Wi-Fi router D-Link Dir with its own firmware. But the connection algorithm is no different. The user will also need to delete working connections in the "Networks, WAN" tab.

Then add a new PPPoE type, enter authentication data and save it.

"Beeline"

Many are accustomed to the fact that Beeline deals only mobile communications and wireless internet. But recently there are often areas where it is possible to order a service. wired internet and IPTV from Beeline. Enough to have official version firmware on any compatible router so that everything works stably and without failures

.

You can try to establish a connection without latest version Firmware Dir. The main thing is to open advanced settings, find the "Network, WLAN" field, delete all existing connections. Next, add a new one. As the network type is selected "L2TP with dynamic IP".

To connect to the NetByNet network, it is advisable to update the device firmware. Next, go to the networks menu and if there are already ready-made ones in it, delete everything completely. Then create a new one with the PPTP network type.

First of all, in the menu that appears, select dynamic type IP. In the Ip / Name Vpn Server field, you must enter the provider's server. This information provided to the client by the company providing the connection. For example, for Moscow, the address is: ppp.lan. You will also need to enter the username and password provided by the provider. The last item is the choice of the type of connected mod, it is set to the Always position. At the end of the configuration are saved.

The provider also provides connection services using the PPPoE protocol. The algorithm is identical to Dom.ru.

Backup connection via 3G, 4G

The technical characteristics of the D-Link router allow for a backup connection. This means that not only a Lan cable is used as a traffic source, but also 3/4G wireless modems.

It should immediately be noted that given function is in the device, but not on all types of firmware. Before trying to connect, you should update the software version. As a rule, the version information says whether it supports the connection of third-party mobile devices or works only with a Lan cable.

Next, proceed to the connection and configuration procedure. wireless router. First you need to connect it to the "Dlink" Dir router and apply voltage to it. Now go to the familiar address: 192.168.0.1. The user will be interested in the section WANs. Here create a new connection. Select 3G or 4G as the network type, depending on the type of modem.

In the "Provider" section, you need to change the manual type to the country / region from which the connection is made. For example, Russia. Here the provider is selected. After that, all items are filled in automatically. All that is required of the user is to save the changes and wait a few minutes for the Dir router to reconnect to the new network.

Wireless network

To set up a wireless network, the wi-fi router must be turned on and have access to the Internet. By default, the network is open and has a standard name - Dir. But this needs to be changed so that only the user has access. To do this, you need to password-protect Dir. To get started, find the router settings, open the Wi-Fi section. Pay attention to whether there is a check mark next to "Wireless connection". She must be present. Then you need to fill in the fields:

SSID: here you need to enter the name of the future "wi-fi", as if the user would like to see it among available connections e.g. Home WiFi.

Channel: This parameter will determine the data transfer rate. By default, they all work at the same speed, but if many users have gathered on one channel (they are not necessarily connected to personal network, maybe to the neighbor's), then problems with speed begin. To determine which channel is free, use special applications on a mobile device. If this is not possible, it makes sense to choose among 5-8. They tend to be the least loaded.

Mode: Limits the maximum possible transfer rate. 802.11 B/G/N is considered the current standard and should be chosen.

Encryption type: this is just the answer to the question: how to put a password on wi-fi Dir-320. It is at this point to choose how the subscriber's data will be protected. The strongest encryption on this moment is WPA2. Well, the password itself comes up with the user. It must be at least eight characters: letters and numbers.

IPTV

To start IPTV setup, you must first connect the set-top box to the Dir router through one of the Lan outputs. Port numbering for IPTV connection is not important, but the fourth is most often used. Then you should go to the Dir settings and find the IPTV section. Here indicate which port was selected, save the changes. Most providers use a simple circuit connections. To do this, go to advanced settings, find all the ports of the Vlan group and delete them. Next, go to the WAN section, the "Port" field, specify the TV set-top box used. In the "Tag" column, the value untagged is entered. Now it remains to save the changes in order for the scheme to work.

Dynamic DNS

The Dir router has a function dynamic DNS. In order to activate it, you need to go to DNS settings or when creating a network, specify what type of server will be used: static or dynamic.

You can also set an alternative address that the user enters on his own, and in case of problems with the main one, the transition will be carried out through the additional one.

DNS allows you to work with another convenient server remote access to the router Dir - DDNS. To use it, you will need to register your own Domain name. For these purposes, it is recommended to use the official website dlinkddns.com. After registering and binding his domain name to the IP on the site, the user will have the necessary data to create remote access.

Then return to the advanced settings of the Dir router, find the DDNS section in the Advanced tab. Having opened the setting, you will need to create a new connection. In the "Host name" field, add the domain name obtained during registration. The Username section must contain the login used during registration. The password for the network comes up with the subscriber himself. The last item is "Renewal Period". Here the value is set to 60. After all, you should return to the advanced settings, save the changes.

To control access to resources, Dir has a function parental controls. The user enters the addresses of sites to which access will be denied to the list. It also sets the time and days of the week during which access to them will be open or, conversely, limited.

Security settings (antivirus, firewall)

To enhance the security of the PC, the firewall settings in the Dir router are used to filter outgoing IP addresses. To do this, you need to go to the advanced menu and find the tab " Firewall”, where you first need to add a rule in the Port Forwarding section. Next, the packet direction is set in the Firewall tab. The penultimate stage: you will need to enter a rule that controls the receipt of packets from IP addresses and specify the destination port. The last step is to specify an exclusive rule for receiving packets.

This is the main plan for working with the Firewall of the Dir router. All addresses and ports are selected individually. This allows you to block access from sites that do not meet the requirements and can harm your PC.

Printer setup

Printers with USB connectors are directly connected to the Dir router. This allows users of the same group connected via a LAN to share it.

The DLNA server allows you to watch free IPTV on multiple Smart TVs, and for free. In this case, there is a chance to use one, as well as different channels. To do this, the Dir router must have the appropriate firmware - DD-WRT.

First you need to download it from any known resource. Then you need to check the network settings on Windows. First of all, in the "Start" menu, find "Control Panel". Here select "Network and Internet", then - "Network and Control Center and public access”, then - “Change adapter settings”.

Then you need to right-click on the "Local Area Connection" icon, select "Properties". Here, find the section "Internet Protocol version 4", select properties, check that both submenu items are in automatic mode. Modify and save as needed.

Next, go to the settings of the Dir router, change its version using the DD-WRT firmware, as indicated in the “Firmware Update” paragraph. The reconfiguration procedure takes about 3-4 minutes. Then return to Windows settings, the item where the IP address was determined automatically, change to the second one, enter the following Ip: 192.168.1.2.

To get into the router configuration, you need to use the address 192.168.1.1 in the browser. When you first log in, you need to register, to do this, come up with a username and password. Remember them, as they will be required for further use of the Dir router. Next, go to the "DHCP server" settings and check the configuration: the status should be automatic. Now, when IP addresses are distributed in auto mode, go to the settings of the network card, change the item "Obtaining an IP address" to automatic.

After the performed operations, you can safely connect the set-top box via a Lan cable and enjoy watching your favorite TV shows.

Setting up a VPN server

Network equipment does not support the creation of a separate VPN server, but it is possible to use third-party options. When creating a PPTP connection, it becomes possible to connect a VPN server. It ensures the privacy of user data. That is, the provider will not be able to view which sites have been visited. To configure such a connection, you must fill in all the fields in the IP section that opens when you create a PPTP network. Passwords, IP address and the VPN server itself are provided by the provider, the data is usually in the contract.

Possible malfunctions, ways to eliminate them

Often, when it comes to a malfunctioning Dir router, the problem comes down to incorrect settings. If Dir fails, the device stops working in most cases.

If there are interruptions in the connection, first of all it is worth checking whether the configurations are set correctly.

Most often this happens with "wi-fi". If the user does not see his connection in the available ones, or it either appears or disappears, then the channel needs to be changed, most likely it is overloaded. If the network is found, but the IP address is constantly being authenticated, then the DHCP settings on the Link Dir have gone wrong, it has switched from automatic to manual mode.

When the Internet is lost directly on the PC via a Lan connection, this may be due to automatic settings described above in the section of the same name. Or you need to update the firmware of the network device. Conducting section this action listed below in the article.

Firmware update

Updating the firmware to the latest version, or installing a third-party assembly, will expand the number of functions performed by the router. But first you need to find out which version is currently installed so as not to use the outdated one. The description of the router, its characteristics, as well as the firmware version are written on the bottom side of the device. Installation new version firmware for this model is provided only through the web interface. Knowing the necessary information, you should proceed to the update process itself.

Via web interface

It is required to download the firmware version of interest to the user from the official website or other resource. Today there are quite a lot of them and they offer very interesting assemblies. Now that the file is on your computer, you need to go to the router settings and find the “Update software". Here, find the "Browse" button, clicking on which will open a menu with a file selection. You must select the catalog downloaded earlier, then start the update procedure.

Important! In no case should you interrupt the process of installing the firmware, this will lead to the failure of the router itself.

The whole procedure takes about three minutes, at the end the Dir router will reboot.

Reset router settings to factory settings

There are two ways to reset to factory settings. In the first case, you will need a thin long object, for example, a pin, to hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds. After that, the equipment will drop all configurations.

For the second method, you will need to use the interface, to do this, go to the router settings and select the "System" menu, where there is an item "Restore default settings". Select it and carry out the reset procedure.

After the above actions, passwords and logins will be reset to standard ones. To enter the settings, you will need to enter admin / admin, wifi network renamed to Dir, becomes open.

Conclusion

The Dir router, which was reviewed, is worth the money. This is a budget router, but with good set features that are not found in all expensive models. In addition, the router is equipped with a USB connector through which you can connect the printer, as well as configure other Powerline products. USB devices. Including portable 3/4 G-routers, so staying with him without the Internet is almost impossible. It is also worth noting that the Dir device is powered by only five volts, which saves power consumption, and in emergency situations allows you to power it from the battery.

Owners of network devices are often faced with the need to configure a router. Difficulties arise especially for inexperienced users who have never performed similar procedures before. In this article, we will clearly show how to adjust the router yourself, and we will analyze this task for D-Link example DIR-320.

If you have just purchased the equipment, unpack it, make sure that all the necessary cables are present, and choose the ideal place for the device in your house or apartment. Connect the cable from the provider to the connector INTERNET, and plug the network wires into the available LANs 1 to 4 located on the back side

Then open the section with network settings in your operating system. Here you should make sure that the IP addresses and DNS have a marker set next to "Receive automatically". Detailed information about where to find these parameters and how to change them, read in another material from our author at the link below.

Configuring the D-Link DIR-320 router

Now it's time to go directly to the configuration process itself. It is produced through the built-in firmware. Our further instructions will be based on the AIR interface firmware. If you have a different version and appearance does not match, there is nothing to worry about, just find the same items in the appropriate sections and set them to values, which we will discuss later. Let's start by entering the configurator:

The D-Link DIR-320 firmware allows you to configure in one of two available modes. Tool "Click'n'Connect" will be useful for those who need to quickly set only the most necessary parameters, while manual adjustment will allow you to flexibly adjust the operation of the device. Let's start with the first, simpler option.

Click'n'Connect

In this mode, you will be prompted to specify the main points of the wired connection and points WiFi access. The whole procedure looks like this:

Successfully configured settings are analyzed by pinging the set address. The default is google.com , but if you don't like it, enter your address in the field and rescan, then click on "Further".

The latest firmware version has support for the DNS function from Yandex. If you are using the AIR interface, you can easily set up this mode by setting the appropriate parameters.

Now let's deal with the wireless point:

Now many users buy a TV set-top box at home, which connects to the Internet via a network cable. The Click'n'Connect tool allows you to quickly set up the IPTV mode. You only need to do two things:

This concludes the quick configuration. You have just been introduced to how to work with the built-in Wizard and what parameters it allows you to set. A more detailed setup procedure is carried out using manual mode, which will be discussed next.

Manual setting

Now we will go through approximately the same points that were considered in Click'n'Connect but let's pay attention to the details. You, repeating our steps, can easily adjust the WAN connection and access point. Let's start with the wired connection:

We have analyzed the main Extra options WAN and LAN. This is the end of the wired connection, it should function correctly immediately after accepting the changes or rebooting the router. Now let's analyze the configuration of the wireless point:

  1. Go to category Wifi and open section "Basic settings". Be sure to include here wireless connection, and also enter the network name and country, at the end click on "Apply".
  2. On the menu "Security Settings" you are prompted to select one of the network authentication types. That is, set the security rules. We recommend using encryption WPA2PSK, you should also change the password to a more complex one. fields "WPA Encryption" and "WPA key renewal period" may not be touched.
  3. Function "MAC filter" limits access and helps you configure your network so that only certain devices receive it. To edit a rule, go to the appropriate section, turn on the mode and click on "Add".
  4. Enter the required MAC address manually or select it from the list. The list displays those devices that have already been detected by your point.
  5. The last thing I would like to note is the WPS function. Enable it and select the appropriate connection type if you want to provide fast and secure device authentication when connecting via Wi-Fi. To understand what WPS is, our other article at the link below will help you.
