Msi system recovery. Restoring laptop to factory settings

15.06.2019

Often, restoring the operating system or rolling it back allows you to quickly and effectively get rid of many serious problems that, for example, appeared after installing updates. Unlike previous versions of Windows, version 10 offers five ways to help restore the graphical shell to work.

When is system recovery necessary?

Often, personal computer users resort to system recovery after receiving new updates for the OS. Unfortunately, despite the quality of the operating system itself, Microsoft does not uncommonly release update curves. After installing them, there can be two options for development:

  • the first is OS recovery and rollback;
  • the second is waiting for patches. They appear quite quickly, so immediately resorting to such drastic measures as system rollback is not worth it (except in rare cases when PC security may suffer).

The more common reason why you need to perform an OS recovery is because the software is not working correctly. For example, if the user installed any drivers, after which the programs stopped functioning properly, then the best option recovery will be the solution to the problem.

More advanced PC users often try to make some changes to the system registry. This is a common practice, but in inexperienced hands it can be pointless and cause a lot of harm. Since in system registry contains information about all applications, their data, including the data of the system itself, then you should not make any adjustments here. If, after the changes, the PC stopped working as before, it is necessary to use OS recovery.

It should be noted that if the PC began to work somehow differently, errors of an unknown kind appear, you can always use the recovery function. It will not harm the device, but it will remove any changes that were made after the date the restore point was created.

Windows 10 recovery methods (if the system boots)

Microsoft Corporation latest version The OS has provided users with a variety of OS recovery options. The choice of this or that method directly depends on the capabilities of the user, as well as the state of the device itself. Consider three options:

  • using a restore point;
  • reset to factory settings;
  • changing the history of files.

Recovery point

One of the most useful functions Windows 10 operating system - restore point. It was present in previous versions, but it was not supposed to store many variations of the OS state. Typically, a restore point was created either automatically after making changes to system files or drivers, or manually by the user. Now, in the event of errors in the operation of the device, you can always use the optimal rollback point.

Restore points still contain only information about the changes made. As such, the operating system image is missing in this case. This means that if you did not create restore points yourself, then the list will display only those dates when changes were made to critical and system files of the OS.

First, the user needs to enter the recovery settings section of the Windows 10 operating system. This can be done as follows:

  1. Use the key combination Win + R on your keyboard.
  2. Enter the command "Restore" in the field.

    In the panel, click the "Create a restore point" button

  3. In the window that appears, open the "System Protection" tab. In the "Protection settings" section you can see all the available sections hard disk. Separate restore points are created for each of them. Pay attention to the "Protection" field. Select the required section and change its state using the "Configure" button.

    Change the restore point parameters for the selected hard disk partition

  4. Change the state of the option to "Enable system protection". Also, do not forget to indicate the optimal amount of disk space. It will be used to create operating system restore points in the future. Save your changes.

    Activate the function of creating a restore point and specify the amount of memory that will be used for these purposes

When the specified amount of memory is reached, old restore points will be deleted and overwritten with new ones.

To use existing restore points, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the "Start" icon and select "Settings".
  2. Find the Update & Security button in the list.
  3. In the menu on the left go to the "Recovery" section. Click the "Start System Restore" button, after which a window with parameters will be displayed. There are two options you can use here:
    • Recommended recovery options. It is used in cases where incorrect drivers, updates and other software are the probable cause of malfunctions in the system's performance;

      Choose the appropriate restore points: Recommended or Custom

    • using user-created restore points. If you did not create them, then no option will be displayed in the list.

      All points created by the user are displayed in a list, from which the appropriate option is selected

  4. After selecting a suitable restore point, click the "Next" button and wait for the procedure to complete. It will take at least 5–20 minutes of time, depending on the selected date and PC configuration. This will automatically restart the computer. When you log on to the graphical shell again, the system will notify you that the recovery was successful.

Factory reset

This feature is a kind of novelty, since in previous versions of the Windows 10 operating system, the only thing a user could do was reinstall the OS on his own. In this case, it was obligatory to have a corresponding CD or image.

This is not required when working with Windows 10. The system will use the executable files saved on the hard disk for installation. In this case, the reset procedure itself will take 20 or more minutes (directly depends on the device configuration).

The same can be done without entering the graphical shell on the user selection screen. Hold down the Shift key and at the same time press the "Restart" key in the lower right part of the window. A special window will appear in which you will need to use the "Diagnostics" tool, and then select "Reset".

As an analogue, you can use and new function that appeared in Windows 10 called Start Over. This process is practically no different from the option described above, except that a clean installation of the operating system will be performed. It starts in a few clicks and can take about 20 minutes, depending on the computer. A distinctive advantage of this function is that, compared to standard reset, the recovery of additional software that was installed after the purchase of the device (antiviruses, programs from the manufacturer, and much more) will not be performed.

To take advantage of this opportunity, do the following:

  1. Find in the tray " Windows defender”And activate it.
  2. Go to the Device Health tab.
  3. Look for the Start Over or New Start option.

    In the New Launch section, click More Information

  4. Click "More Information" and then use the "Get Started" button.

    To activate the function, click the "Get Started" button

  5. A window will appear warning the user of all possible changes. If you agree, then click the "Next" button.

    Activate the "Start Over" feature to start a clean version of Windows 10 and confirm its execution

  6. A list of all applications and programs that will be affected by uninstallation will be displayed. The last thing that remains to be done is to confirm the procedure and wait for its completion. Upon completion, a file will appear on the desktop, where all changes will be detailed. There will also be a special directory with old version operating system.

File history

The File History feature was first introduced in Windows 8. It can be very useful, especially for non-professional users. This feature will come in handy if you accidentally deleted an important file or directory, made incorrect changes, or the data of a program was infected with malicious software. In all these cases, the user can use the "File History" function, which allows you to restore the previous, workable state.

It should be said that this feature has its own settings. If the user has not made any changes, the system will automatically back up folders such as Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos. The retention periods are also configurable, but by default the data of these files will be stored indefinitely.

To launch the settings and view this function, use the standard Windows search 10 by specifying in the "File history" field.

In the "Storing history" section, the user will see the hard disk partitions and used drives, as well as the status of the function itself. To activate it, just select the appropriate section and click on the "Enable" button.

Turn on the function of recording file history on the computer

If you want to change the save options, use the "More options" button. Here you can configure the time interval after which the files will be saved, as well as their storage period.

Change the parameters in a way that suits you, choosing the saving interval and the storage time of the files

To use the restore function through the "File History", open the directory where the necessary information was stored. In the "Home" tab, you will see the "File History" icon, which is required in this case.

Go to the directory to restore the file and activate the entry to the "File history" section

To restore files and data, just enter the "File History", select the appropriate document and click on the restore button, after which it will reappear in the directory. The procedure itself is performed in a matter of minutes.

Select the file you want to recover and confirm the procedure

Windows 10 Advanced Recovery (If System Won't Boot)

Some problems that any user can face personal computer, are very serious and lead to the fact that the graphical shell does not load at all. In such cases, you probably will not be able to use the methods described above.

Fortunately, Microsoft has provided for such a scenario and added several functions that will allow the computer to return to a working state in cases where it is impossible to log into the OS.

Windows 10 recovery disc

A recovery disc is a standard tool for returning your system to a usable state. Do not pay attention to the name itself: the disc can be not only CD or DVD drive, but also an ordinary USB flash drive.

The only drawback of this method is that the user needs to pre-write information about the operating system to removable media and thereby create this recovery disk. In any case, you can use another computer or the help of friends.

A recovery disk means saving the most important information operating system (files and directories). This will allow them to be used in the future to replace damaged components.

To create a disc, do the following:

Installation disc

An installation disc or other storage device that has a Windows 10 operating system image is very helpful. For example, in the case when the OS does not want to boot, using such a drive, you can easily and quickly solve the problem.

If you do not have such a disk, use the built-in operating system tools to create one. This can be done as follows:

  1. In the search for the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and open it.
  2. Change the item display options to Large Icons and select the Restore option.

    In the "Control Panel" select the "Recovery" option

  3. A window will appear where the user can create a recovery disc using the corresponding button.

    In the list of options, select "Create a recovery drive"

  4. Install the drive and select it in the working window. Confirm the creation procedure and wait for it to complete.

    Select a suitable drive from the list of installed drives and use it to create a disk

The last step is to change the boot order of the PC components through the BIOS.

Activate the embedded environment at device boot using the Del button (button combinations vary by manufacturer motherboard). Go to the Boot Configuration Features tab. Here, change the boot order of the components so that either the optical disc drive or USB is installed first. It depends on which drive was used to create the boot disk.

It is very important to remember the order in which items are loaded, especially if you are a novice user. Otherwise, after making the changes, the system will boot incorrectly.

Exit BIOS and wait for the OS installation window to appear. Here you can do in any convenient way:

  • roll back the system using a restore point;
  • perform a system restore at boot;
  • reinstall it and much more.

Windows 10 System Restore error 0x80070091

A common problem that PC users may face during recovery is error 0x80070091. When it appears, you will not be able to use the device again, and the recovery process will not be completed.

It is necessary to warn in advance that it is extremely difficult to get rid of this problem and the user should be aware that all the measures that he resorts to are carried out at their own peril and risk. Probably, some manipulation can lead to other problems.

The reason for this error is the contents of the Program Files folder, namely WindowsApps. Usually the malfunction appears after the next OS updates.

The solution to the problem is very simple. To do this, it is enough to delete the directory itself and subsequently use the restore point. How to create and use it was described above.

  1. Activate the "Command Prompt" with administrator rights by right-clicking on it and selecting in context menu"Run as administrator"
  2. In the field enter the command TAKEOWN / F “C: \ Program Files \ WidowsApps” / R / D Y.

    Enter the command to rename the folder in the field

  3. After completing the process, activate the display hidden files and folders by checking the box next to the corresponding item in the "View" tab in the "Explorer Options".

    Turn on the display of hidden files and folders through the "Explorer Options"

  4. To change the name of the system directory, download the Unlocker utility. It can be easily found in a search engine and installed.
  5. Run the program and select the WindowsApps directory, then change its name and click the Unlock All button. After these changes, the error will be fixed.

    Open the option to change the WindowsApps directory and change its name

How to recover the activation key for Windows 10 yourself

At the first installation and activation of the operating system, the key specified by the user is automatically assigned to the device. It can also be saved to personal account, which can come in handy when, for example, you are going to install the same OS on another computer.

Nevertheless, no one is safe from the fact that after the next updates license key it will just fly off, and yours Windows version 10 will no longer work properly.

It is quite easy to restore it. This is where the function will help us, in which the key is literally attributed to the account. To restore the key, follow these steps:

The whole further process of working with this option is described above.

Note that upon completion of the procedure, the license key will be returned to its place, but some information will still be deleted. This will depend on the recovery method you chose.

How to restore screen resolution

After reinstalling the operating system or restoring it, the screen resolution often becomes non-standard. For example, if you previously used 1920 × 1080, then, probably, after the specified procedures, it will change to something else.

The problem can be solved in two ways:

Windows 10 password recovery and reset

If you have set a password for logging into your account on your computer, but for some reason forgot it, use the recovery tools. The procedure directly depends on the type of account used (local or Microsoft).

Reset account password Microsoft records runs online. It can even be done using a mobile phone.

If everything was indicated correctly, follow the instructions on the screen. This way you can quickly and easily regain access to your computer.

Second possible way elimination of the pressing problem - the use of the built-in administrator account. This option is most appropriate if you have forgotten the password for your local account.

An important feature of this option is the need to use a recovery disc. How to make and use it was described above.

Change the boot parameters of the computer components through the BIOS, as described above. When the window for choosing the language for installation appears, use the key combination Shift + F10. Here, specify the commands one by one:

Remember the name of the partition of the hard disk where the directory with the operating system is stored, then this will be required. Enter the command exit to exit the diskpart utility.

Also in the "Command Line" specify the following commands:

If the operations are completed without errors, exit and change the boot options in the BIOS.

It remains only to return to the account selection screen and in the section special features select "Command line". Provide the following information: net user username new password. So you can change the password and use it to enter the graphical shell.

There are many recovery tools for the Windows 10 operating system, most of them can be used even if the user is unable to log into the computer's graphical shell. You can also resort to additional means in the form special programs created by third party developers, but it is better to use standard set tools in the system itself.

BIOS- a set of utilities that are installed on the motherboard, which make it possible to turn on the device to install the OS. With its help, Windows 10 is loaded, the data carrier is selected, the range of thermal sensors is indicated, and various parameters are configured. If the system stops loading, errors crash and restore in a standard way fails, you can through the BIOS.

How to restore Windows 10 through BIOS.

But this method can be used only if you have an installation disk or flash drive with a distribution of a licensed operating system with the version and bitness that you have installed, without external storage this option is not possible.

First of all, you need to start by setting the BIOS to read the disk immediately upon starting the computer.

If the preparation of automatic recovery does not make it possible to restart the computer normally, you need to do it forcibly by holding down the shutdown buttons for 10-15 seconds, as soon as the system starts to boot, you must press one of the keys: F1, F4, F3, Delete, F8 (say exactly which exactly you need to press it is impossible, since it depends on the model of the motherboard on your device).

In the instructions for the computer or on the manufacturer's website, you can look for which key you need to enter. Most PCs use the "Delete" button, on laptops the key combination "ctrl + alt + esc" can be used.
After the BIOS starts, go to the Boot section.

You need to find the parameter "1st boot device", which can be located in the section "Boot Device Configuration", "Advanced Features", "Boot", "Boot Sequence. There you will need to set a parameter for a CDROM or PXE UND I disk to boot from a USB flash drive:

Press "F10" to save the result, insert the disc into the drive or connect the USB flash drive that contains the distribution kit, then reboot the device.

After the computer boots up, the initial system installation menu appears, where you will need to click on the "System Restore" button.

The menu "Select actions" will open, you need to select the item "Diagnostics".

Then go to the item "Additional parameters".

After clicking, a window will open with a choice of a restore point.

Startup Repair scans your computer for errors and fixes them as they are found. You can try to run the utility, but in most cases, after searching, it usually displays a message that the computer could not be restored.

If you had a rollback and your Windows after the above steps was successfully restored, then this field will need to go into the BIOS and return the hard disk boot priority back to the first place.

How to restore Windows 10 via command line.
If you did not create a checkpoint, restoring Windows systems 10 can be tried through the command line. To do this, you also need a bootable disk or USB flash drive with the Windows operating system, which is installed on the computer.

If you do not want to restart your computer, you can restore the system through the command line from Windows. To do this, you will need to insert the disc into the DVD-ROM with the PC booted up. Then start the command line by pressing the hotkey combination "Win + R" and in the search row of the "Run" window enter "sfc / scannow" and click "OK". After that, the broken system distributions will be copied from the boot disk automatically. System restore, rollback is pretty quick and problem-free.

If you are interested in Windows 10 recovery, then you have come to the right place.

Let's figure out how to get Windows 10 back on track without using third-party programs.

System Restore

This option will help fix errors that appeared after installing software, Windows updates, changes in the registry, and the like.

The resume function allows you to revert registry settings and protected system files to a previously saved state - one of the checkpoints that Windows creates automatically.

This does not affect the user's documents.

Regeneration points in "tens" are created before installing programs, drivers, system updates or just every 7 days. In addition, the user can create them manually.

Procedure

  • Go to the control panel, open the "Recovery" applet and select "Start System Restore" from the list of commands.
  • Select the checkpoint created before the crash and click Finish.

  • During the execution of the task, the computer will be restarted. After 5-7 minutes, Windows 10 will return to the state that preceded the problem.

Resuming the system is also available when Windows 10 does not start. If the download fails, instead of the welcome window, you will see the following:

By pressing the button " Additional options recovery ”you will be prompted to choose an action. Here you need to click on the "Diagnostics" item.

After that, the already familiar window will open to you with a proposal to select a control point. Follow the instructions and wait for the wizard to finish.

Restoring your computer to its original state

This option will help you deal with errors that System Resume does not fix, or where appropriate control points missing or not created.

Restoring Windows 10 to its original state can be done:

  • With preservation user files and a number of preinstalled programs. Moreover, all system settings, the drivers and software installed by the user will be reset.
  • Without saving personal data, programs and settings. This option reverts the system to a clean install state. No user information will remain in it.

Important! On computers and laptops where Windows 10 was installed by the manufacturer, a third option may be available - restoring to factory settings. This deletes not only user data and settings, but also the contents of non-system hard disk partitions.

Returning to the factory state without saving personal information is used as a last resort - an alternative to reinstalling the system in case of intractable failures, as well as before selling the computer or transferring it to another user.

How to return Windows 10 to its original state

  • Open the Start menu and click the "Options" button.

  • Select Update & Security from the list of options.

  • Then select "Recovery".

  • In the Reset this computer section, click the Get Started button.

  • After that, select the option you need: "Keep my files" or "Delete everything".

In about 40-60 minutes, Windows 10 will be back online.

Rollback to a previous version of the system (Windows 7 or 8)

This method is available only to those who installed the "ten" in the order of updating the previous OS - "seven" or "eight". And it is possible only within a month after the update.

This will save the user's files in personal folders, drivers, software and settings previous system, and everything that was in Windows 10 will be deleted.

To roll back to the originally installed OS, launch the Settings app from the Start menu, open Update & Security, then Recovery, and select Revert to Windows 8.1 (7).

If this item is not in the parameter list, then the function is unavailable. It will also be unavailable if the user has deleted from system partition hard disk folder Windows.old.

Reinstall Windows 10 from a recovery drive

This option will be useful for those who previously created a regeneration disk. A backup copy of the system with functional parameters is saved on it.

To create a recovery disc, do the following:

  • prepare a blank DVD or USB flash drive (the minimum storage capacity is determined individually) and connect to a computer;
  • open the "Recovery" section in the control panel, select "Create a recovery disc" and follow the instructions.

The finished Windows backup media must be stored in a safe place and not used for anything else.

How to restore Windows 10 from a backup

If the system boots, open Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery and Reset this computer.

After rebooting into the recovery environment, select the "Diagnostics" and "System Image Restore" section.

  • Confirm your consent to the rollback and wait for it to complete.
  • Will be done automatic recovery Windows with saving user files, software and settings. The system state will be the same as when the backup was created.

    Midsummer of 2015 saw the release of the expected Windows 10 operating system. Consumers were able to get it by downloading free upgrade... Which is offered by every computer with Windows 7 and 8.1 installed. A new version identified herself as the most reliable. But like any mechanism, sooner or later it may fail. Older versions assumed different ways bug fixes. Windows 10 is no exception. How to return it to working condition or fix errors is described in this article.

    Itself operating system offers users a wide range of recovery methods. First, you need to diagnose the alleged Windows problem 10. For example, if the computer does not boot or freezes badly, then you should use the troubleshooting tools that are present on installation discs... If the operating system still boots, but it does not work well or often freezes, then you can use the means of the system itself to return to a working state.

    There are three main methods of restoring the system to work, each of which is suitable in different situations based on the diagnosis of the problem itself. They are all known and are similar to the methods that were in older versions of Windows:

    • return to original parameters;
    • restore point;
    • return to working state using an OS image;
    • boot Windows disk 10;

    Repair using the "Recovery Point" method

    The most common and not requiring much knowledge in information technology the way is to use restore points. To use this method, the user needs to click on the notification tab, then select the following items: "All parameters" - "Update and security" - "Recovery".

    Also get into this menu you can even not boot the OS completely. To do this, after the welcome screen appears, where the computer prompts you to enter a password, you need to click on the power icon and hold down the Shift key. After a couple of seconds, a window will appear in which you need to select the "Diagnostics" item and go to the "Reset" tab.

    To start fixing problems in Windows 10, in the "Reset" item, click on the "Start" button. After that, a dialog box will appear, which will offer two options for reinstalling the OS:

    The method by deleting all files and completely reinstalling the OS

    This method removes all old owner data and Windows options 10. After that, all the necessary drivers and the operating system itself are installed. All actions take place in automatic mode- this prevents the occurrence of errors that can appear due to the human factor.

    The disadvantage of this method is that it will not be able to resurrect the OS if there is damage to the hard disk. This will require other methods.

    OS with personal data retention

    The method returns the computer to its original form, but at the same time retains all the owner's data. This fix does not format the files stored in the users folder (sections such as Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc.). However, all programs that were previously installed will be removed.

    Recovery point

    This method has been used by Windows for many years. The points of the system for fixing a non-working OS are known to many, but few people know how to check or enable them. They help the owner of the computer to get it working in the event of an unsuccessful installation of the driver or other programs that led to the breakdown of Windows 10.

    To make sure that the program creates such points on a schedule, the user needs to go to the "System Setup and Restore" menu. To do this, right-click on the "Start" button and select the following items one by one: "Control Panel" - "Recovery" - "System Restore Settings".

    Typically, points are created automatically on a schedule, and this feature is enabled by default. But the owner can always change most of the parameters on his own by clicking on the "Configure" button.

    All restore points are created automatically when any important software settings and parameters, as well as various services, installation of programs, etc. In the event of experiments or other dangerous moments, the owner can create a record of the state of the system himself.

    If Windows 10 does not work well after installing a program or driver, then by going to the appropriate item, you can return to its original state. To do this, select the "Start System Restore" section, where the user can select the point creation date. After agreeing to the changes, you should click the "Continue" button, after which the OS will return to the state that was saved earlier.

    Create a complete Windows 10 recovery image

    The developers left the function to create a complete OS recovery image on a hard disk (built-in or external) or on several optical DVDs.

    The difference from the previously used option is that in the process a complete reflection of the operating system is created, including all installed programs required drivers, individual settings that are relevant at the time the image is loaded. In the previous version, the user could only get the OS installation file and save personal data.

    It is best to create such a file immediately after the complete installation of the OS, all drivers and required programs when the computer is fully configured and not overwhelmed extra files and applications.

    To record this image, go to the "Control Panel" menu, here open the "File History" item. In the lower left part of the window, select the line "System image backup", then "Create a system image". An alternative way: go to the menu "All options", select the item "Update and security", then the line "Backup service", in the window that opens, click "Activation and recovery (Windows 7)", then "Create a system image".

    In the displayed menu, the user can independently specify the path where it is necessary to save generated file: options for HDD, to a DVD or network folder, select the necessary one, and you can also mark the items and partitions on the disks that need to be included in backup, and which ones to remove. Most often this is a partition occupied by the OS itself and the software parts of the disk.

    Subsequently, the resulting file can be used in order to quickly return the computer to the desired state. Run this function you can either from the image itself from the disk on which it is saved, or select the "Restore" menu in the program. To do this, go to the "Diagnostics" window, select the "Advanced options" line, and then "System image recovery".

    Windows 10 boot disk

    Resuscitation work can be carried out both from a bootable CD / DVD disc, and from a USB flash drive.

    In older versions of Windows, a specialized disk with a set of repair utilities was used. In a modern OS, this is a full-fledged disk with Windows 10 and various recovery programs.

    For safety, the user can use the built-in Windows tools 10 create such a disk. To do this, go to the Create Recovery Disc menu.

    This feature is also useful for quick system setup. To do this, you must select the item that makes a backup copy with a full copy of all program files.

    To start such a media, you need to restart the computer and first, before loading the OS, go to the bootmenu and select the desired disk. Or, such a function can be configured in the BIOS, indicating from which media the boot will go.

    After saving the settings, a welcome window of the installation should appear. Here, you need to select the System Restore item, then the "Diagnostics" section. This will enable the user to fix the system in several ways:

    1. Command line - here, you can fix errors by manual input commands, launching various utilities. This method is suitable for advanced users.
    2. OS recovery from an image - loaded from a previously saved image.
    3. Restore point - Loads from a previously saved system state.
    4. Startup Repair - fixes all important program files that could have been damaged.
    5. You can also go into the BIOS to fix or change the system settings.

    With such a device, the user can protect himself in many areas. The advantage can be considered as fast Windows installation 10, with the drivers already on board.

    As you can see from the above, Windows 10 offers a very big choice in fixing system errors. Even an inexperienced user can master them. They have the simplest and most convenient mechanism for interacting with a person.

    Many may argue that there is now a large number of products aimed at fixing the OS. They also have a convenient and clear interface... The flexible algorithm for saving data is more perfect than in the operating system itself. All this gives a green light third-party programs... But, as a rule, they cost a lot of money. Therefore, it will be a good form for the owner to know how to reanimate Windows 10 by means of the system itself.

    Image Windows recovery 10 is the official tool thanks to which you can restore your OS to work if problems happen to it. You have two ways to get yourself an image. The first way is to download the Windows 10 recovery image from the Internet. The second way is to create this image yourself, while your system is still working as stable as possible. Ideal if you choose the second method. It is best to create the image when you have just installed the OS. At this point, your system is as close to a clean state as possible.

    How to use the Windows 10 recovery image

    The Windows 10 recovery image must be written to a USB flash drive. After all, if problems happened to your computer, then you will not be able to use the data recorded on your hard disk. Therefore, it does not matter which of the two methods you choose, you must write the data to USB stick... The recovery image requires a USB flash drive of at least 4 GB. We recommend that you create such a USB flash drive immediately after you have installed the system. You have 2 ways how you can get a recovery image:
    • Create an image on your computer;
    • Download Windows 10 recovery image from the Internet;
    The first option is to create an image on your computer, better. Since in that case we are talking about a full-fledged recovery image. You will be able to restore exactly your version of the OS. If you use the second option - recovery from an image from the Internet, then you will be using a regular clean version of Windows 10. And this is not really a recovery image, it is just a full-fledged version of the OS. On its basis, you can also restore the performance of your version of Windows 10. But this restoration will take place without taking into account the peculiarities of your computer.

    It is not possible to download a recovery image for your computer. You can only create a personal image yourself, because it is unique. Of course, the image is created at the moment before you have any problems. Experts recommend creating images on a regular basis. For example, once every six months or a year. The image must always be at hand. After all, a computer can be disabled at any time. If you do not have a ready-made image, and the computer is broken, then you will need a second device on which you will create a Windows 10 recovery image from Windows image 10. Of course, for this you must read the instructions,

    If Windows has stopped loading, then you can use standard utilities to restore correct operation.

    One of the main nightmares of lovers computer technology- this is to face a situation where the device cannot be turned on. The operating system starts to load, but eventually displays a message like: “Failed to configure windows updates, the changes are being canceled, do not turn off the computer. " After which nothing new happens - to recover software fails, and loading stubbornly does not help.

    System recovery tools

    Before the release of Windows 7, a similar situation turned into numerous dances with a tambourine, and often even completely complete reinstallation operating system. Now everything is different, and often the problem is solved by standard Microsoft tools, which do not even need to be specially installed. The task boils down to being, in principle, aware that such a toolkit exists, as well as to simply remembering about it when something "irreparable" suddenly happened.

    The trick is to boot your computer, even before the icons appear. Windows boot, have time to get into the advanced parameters of this boot itself, where it will be possible to run diagnostics and, if necessary, restore the system to the selected checkpoint. In Windows 7, when loading, it was required to press function key F8 and then select the “Troubleshoot” option (although in rare cases the “Last Known Good Configuration” option saved).

    Additional boot options for Windows 7

    Once in the System Recovery Options menu, in most cases one of the first two options became the salvation. "Startup Repair" could save the operating system in an automatic mode, and "System Restore" required you to manually select a checkpoint to which you will rollback.

    Windows 7 System Recovery Options

    In order to be able to restore it to its original state in the event of a malfunction of the operating system, it is necessary to make a recovery disc in advance.
    Microsoft would change itself if it left everything with the update of its brainchild useful tools the old way. Windows 10 system recovery is carried out by pressing "hot keys" Shift + F8, and, in contrast to the "seven", you need to press this combination very, very quickly, since the operating system itself began to load much faster.

    Has undergone changes and appearance saving menu. Selecting “Diagnostics”, in “ Additional parameters”There is already familiar to us“ System Restore ”and“ Startup Repair ”(only in a different order). There is also an option “Return to the previous build” if you upgraded to “ten” from one of the previous versions Windows.

    If automatic repair didn't work

    Restoring your Windows system to one of the past checkpoints is not a difficult task. It is only important that these points themselves exist in the system, because sometimes users themselves manually disable their creation, at the same time deleting the existing ones. Indeed, it makes sense to clean up old checkpoints from time to time, since they take up a lot of space. But giving up recovery points altogether is a risky business.

    To make sure that you automatically create restore points or make changes to the appropriate settings, you need to select the display of icons "Large icons" (or Small, but not Categories) in the "Options" window and select "Recovery". There you already select “System Restore Settings”, check if protection is enabled and, if necessary, use the “Configure” button. Here you can manually create a point for later recovery.

    If we have restore points, then using the method described earlier, that is, using the built-in Windows tools to restore the system, you can quickly roll back to an earlier state of the computer without losing important files.

    As a last resort, you will have to restore the system to its original state or according to a previously created system image. It is advisable to create “System Image” and “System Recovery Disc” in working condition operating system after you have installed all the applications you need. This is done all through the same “Control Panel” (aka “Options”), when browsing by “Categories”, selecting “Backup and Restore (Windows 7)”. Here you can restore the operating system to a previously created image, if the computer is still booting, but has already stopped working as it should.
    With every release of the operating system Microsoft asks for more and more information from users. But you can moderate her appetites.

    Restoring a laptop to factory settings

    If standard means do not help, and you do not have a disk or USB device with a recovery image, laptop owners can use the “hot keys” to launch the built-in recovery utility. Some models may even have for these purposes separate key, for example, Lenovo's OneKey Recovery, but this is rather an exception. In other cases, it is important to know which one " hotkey”For your laptop, as it tends to differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.

    "Hot keys" for laptop manufacturers:

    • F3- MSI;
    • F4- Samsung;
    • F8- Fujitsu Siemens;
    • F8- Toshiba;
    • F9- ASUS;
    • F10 - Sony VAIO;
    • F10- Packard Bell;
    • F11- HP Pavilion;
    • F11- LG;
    • F11- Lenovo ThinkPad;
    • Alt + F10- Acer (before that select in BIOS - Disk-to-Disk (D2D));
    • Ctrl + F11- Dell Inspiron;
    • Clamp [ Alt] - Rover.

    The factory utility will restore the device to its original state, as if it were fresh from the store. This will delete all programs with settings, all files, including your favorite photos, which just for such cases it makes sense to store in cloud services... However, the device will be able to work again, and in some cases this method will simply help to prepare the laptop for subsequent resale or transfer to relatives.

    Sometimes a computer owner is faced with the need to clean the system from various bugs that interfere with normal operation. This can be done by reinstalling the operating system, or using special utilities... But there is a method that has several undeniable advantages over them.

    Restoring the settings to factory defaults will help restore the device to working condition in most cases, even if you cannot start the OS. This method is especially relevant for those who do not want to waste time reinstalling the OS.

    When restoring factory settings, the OS will be reinstalled automatically. You do not need to enter a second OS activation code. The version of Windows that came with the laptop at the time of purchase will be restored.

    By rolling back the BIOS, you will fix the listed problems. In this article, we will look at how to return your laptop to factory settings and restore it to working condition. There are several ways that we will take a closer look.

    The option to reset the settings may be needed if:

    What are factory parameters?

    Factory parameters are set by the manufacturer for specific model computer or laptop. They store BIOS settings and computer configuration parameters. Such information is located in the dynamic memory of the device, which is called CMOS.
    All factory parameters take up very little space, and have a separate power supply - from a small battery located on the motherboard. You can reset the laptop parameters without access to the BIOS. To do this, just take out the battery, wait 30-40 seconds, and insert it again.

    After the zeroing process is complete BIOS settings and the OS has been reinstalled, you will receive the laptop in the state in which you bought it in the store.

    It should be noted that in order to successfully return the device to factory settings, in addition to CMOS, a Recover section is needed, in which setup files and other necessary system information.

    Where is Recovery and its activation

    The hidden partition on the hard drive that stores all the files needed to restore the system is called Recovery. It is created by default on all laptops, and is deleted or damaged in most cases as a result of incorrect user actions.

    You can see where the hidden section is located:

    There you can also see the size that Recovery on HDD takes. Usually it is 20-25 GB system information and installation files.

    If you have a Toshiba laptop, then you probably already noticed that the D drive contains system folder called HDD Recovery. It also stores the information necessary to reset the system, so it cannot be deleted.

    Activating Recovery starts the zeroing process custom changes BIOS, factory restore, and OS reinstallation and system programs and drivers.

    In order to activate Recovery, press a specific combination of hot keys. This will allow you to enter the system menu where you can select several options for system recovery. It should be remembered that each manufacturer has its own combination of hot keys, below we will consider the most popular.

    Restoring settings with hotkeys

    In order to restore your laptop to factory settings, you should memorize a few hotkey combinations. When the system boots, press hot keys to access the menu BIOS Setup from where you can start the restore process.

    Depending on the manufacturer of computer equipment, hot keys and their combinations differ:

    1. Toshiba - depending on the model, F8, or 0, or Fn + 0;
    2. Sony - F10;
    3. Acer - Alt and F10 at the same time;
    4. HP, LG and Lenovo - F11;
    5. Samsung - F4;
    6. Fujitsu - F8;
    7. ASUS - F9;
    8. Dell - Ctrl and F11 at the same time, but in some F8 models;
    9. Packard Bell - F10. If Windows 8 is installed, you can use the power button when you log in. Hold Shift and at the same time select the "Restart" menu item;
    10. MSI is F3 and on some models F11.
    11. How to reset a laptop to factory settings via BIOS

      Using hot keys, you can rollback custom system changes and reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

      On the black screen that appears, select sequentially:

      1. option "Launching Recovery Center" for Sony, or "Troubleshooting computer problems" for Toshiba, or "System Recovery" for HP;
      2. menu item Load Defaults BIOS.

      Depending on the manufacturer, the option name may vary: Load BIOS Setup Defaults, Load Safe-Fail Defaults", But the words "Load" and "Default" will be sure to attend.

      Training

      Prepare for a factory reset:

      After you start the process of resetting the settings, the process of collecting information and preparing system files will begin. This may take a while, so don't worry.

      Recovery process

      After you start the recovery process, all actions will be performed automatically, without your participation. The computer can restart if required by the installed software. In the process of resetting the settings, the drivers for the devices will be restored and the standard system programs will be installed.

      It is worth mentioning that it is not always possible to successfully reset the settings on a laptop. This is possible if:

      What can you do if you removed the hidden Recovery partition from your hard drive? You will have to look for a bootable settings disk or a hidden partition image for your laptop. They can be found on the net, and sometimes manufacturers offer to buy such discs for system recovery on official sites.
      If there are no ready-made images for your laptop, you can ask the owners of a similar model on computer forums to create such an image for you. And to avoid this situation, you can create your own bootable USB flash drive or DVD-drive for your laptop, which you can keep close at hand and use when needed.

    Recovery - what kind of program is it? Translated from in English into russian "recovery"- it "recovery"... Recovery is a program preinstalled by the manufacturer on the hard drive of a laptop or internal memory smartphone, which allows you to roll back the device (laptop, phone, tablet) to its factory state. In smartphones, this program is launched from the off state by simultaneously pressing and holding the power button and the volume control button for a few seconds (usually "up", but sometimes "down" or both at once). For laptops, this monotony is not provided.

    How to start recovery on laptops

    After turning on the laptop, we begin to feverishly press the keys:
    F3- MSI recovery;
    F4- Samsung. For OS it is possible through Samsung Recovery Solution;
    F8- Fujitsu Siemens. In general, it often allows you to get into the proprietary recovery utility on other laptops (through troubleshooting).
    F8- Toshiba recovery;
    F9- ASUS recovery;
    F10- Sony VAIO. Under the OS it is possible through VAIO Recovery Utility;
    F10- Packard Bell;
    F11- HP recovery;
    F11- LG recovery;
    F11- Lenovo recovery.
    Alt + F10- Acer recovery. Before that, select Disk-to-Disk (D2D recovery) in the BIOS;
    Ctrl + F11- Dell Inspiron;
    F8 or F9- Dell XPS.
    Pinch- Rover

    In the main window of WinSetupFromUSB, select the name of our flash drive.

    We put a tick on the item Auto format it with FBinst and tick the FAT32 item,

    Check the box Vista / 7/8 / Server 2008/2012 based ISO and click on the button that opens the explorer window.

    The explorer opens, we find it on the computer ISO image Live CD AOMEI PE Builder and select it with the left mouse, click "Open".

    We press "GO".

    "Yes"

    The creation of a bootable Live CD AOMEI PE Builder USB stick begins.

    Bootable USB stick ready.

    "OK"

    We boot the laptop from the bootable Live CD AOMEI PE Builder flash drive. Our flash drive is universal, from it you can boot a laptop with a UEFI interface, as well as with a regular BIOS.

    We press "Enter" on the keyboard.

    The desktop Live CD AOMEI PE Builder is loaded, which is a regular Live CD on Windows based 8.1.

    We connect a portable hard drive to the laptop USB disk or a regular flash drive with a volume of 16-32 GB.

    Click on Windows button Disk Management

    In Disk Management, you can see three drives connected to the laptop.

    Disc 0... Laptop hard drive with all partitions:

    The first hidden partition without a letter, 450 MB in size, contains the Windows 8.1 recovery environment.

    The second hidden partition without a letter, volume 100 MB, with The EFI system partition (contains the Boot Configuration Store (BCD) and operating system boot files).

    Section (C :) with installed Windows 8.1 which does not load.

    Section (D :) with user data files.

    The last hidden partition without a letter, the volume is 20.37 GB, it is on it that the factory image of Windows 8.1 is located. We need to enter this section and copy the factory Wim image to a USB portable hard drive (I'll explain why later).

    Disc 1... Bootable USB flash drive Live CD AOMEI PE Builder.

    Disc 2... USB portable hard drive 1TB.

    Drive (C :) needs to be formatted before use. Click on it with the right mouse and select "Format"

    "OK"

    Disk (C :) is formatted.

    Run the command line

    and assign the letterhidden partition, volume 20.37 GB.

    Enter the commands:

    diskpart

    lis vol (list all partitions of the hard disk)

    sel vol 5 (with this command we select hidden RECOVERY partition without a letter, volume 20.37 GB, with the factory image of Windows 8.1)

    assign (the command assigns a letter to the hidden section).

    We open the "My Computer" window and see that the letter (E :) is assigned to the hidden section, go to this section.

    First of all, we enable the display of hidden files and folders, otherwise we will not see the factory WIM image with Windows 8.1, since it has the "Hidden" attribute. Left-click on View and put a check mark on the item "Hidden" items

    Next, we look in the folders factory WIM image. On my laptop, it is located in the folder"Factory" is called install.wim. Regardless of the laptop manufacturer, the file containing the Windows factory image called install.wim.

    Sometimes this file divided into several files with the extension .swm what to do with these files, I will also explain to you later in the article.

    So, copy our file install.wim to a USB portable hard drive. Right-click on the file and select"Copy"

    Go to the (H :) section of the USB portable hard drive.

    Click on an empty space with the right mouse and select Paste (Paste).

    File install.wim is copied to the (H :) section.

    File install.wim copied to section (H :).

    Friends, now we just need to deploy the contents of the file using the command line install.wim(Windows 8.1 factory image) to disk (C :), for this you need to enter only one command, but you need to enter it correctly, the command must contain the file indexinstall.wim and is easy to spot.

    Any install.wim file necessarily has the so-called image index and in the next command, we must specify it. To determine the index of the image of the install.wim file, open a command line and enter the command:

    Dism / Get-WimInfo /WimFile:H:\install.wim

    where H :, the letter of the drive where the file is located install.wim.

    As you can see, the index of the image 1 .

    In accordance with this, enter the following command:

    imagex / apply / check H: \ install.wim 1 C: \

    where image / apply / check H: \ install.wim 1 C: \, then unpack the file install.wim from disk (H :) checking the image for errors, to disk (C :), and 1 is the image index.

    Starts unpacking Windows 8.1 image from file install.wim to disk (C :). In other words, we have done with you using the command line and the utility ImageX is what the factory rollback program was supposed to do - deployed the factory image from a hidden partition to disk (C :).

    Progress 100%. Unpacking completed successfully. Factory Windows 8.1 deployed to disk (C :)!

    We reboot the laptop and get into the final phase Windows installations 8.1.

    The language and regional settings are not changeable.

    We accept the terms of the license agreement.

    The laptop manufacturer may ask you to create your own ID and register the system. You can refuse by unchecking the corresponding items.

    Enter the computer name.

    You can immediately set up an Internet connection via WI-FI or refuse.

    "Skip this step."

    You can manually configure the parameters, as I told you how to do it.

    Or you can "Use standard parameters"

    Enter the username and click "Finish"

    Windows 8.1 is loaded.

    When connected to the Internet, the operating system is automatically activated.

    Anticipating your questions:

    1. Hello admin! You have learned the index of the image install.wim using the utilityDism, why didn't you expand the image with it further?

    Yes, you are right, you can use the Dism utility, the command will look like this:

    Dism / apply-image /imagefile:H:\install.wim / index: 1 / ApplyDir: C: \

    but since the days of Windows 7 I got used to the ImageX utility, Dism does the same thing, but the commands are 2 times longer, which means the probability of errors (especially for an inexperienced user) increases.

    2. Why transfer the install.wim file from a hidden partition on a laptop hard drive to a portable USB hard drive?

    Basically, no matter where the file is located install.wim, and on the command line you can specify the full path to the file, for example, in my case, the command would look like this:

    imagex / apply / check E: \ OKRBackup \ Factory \ install.wim 1 C: \

    3. What to do if there is no file in the hidden section on my laptop install.wim, and there is a group of files:

    install4.swm ...?

    In this case, you need to add the key ref and the command will look like this:

    imagex / apply / check / ref H: \ install * .swm H: \ install.swm 1 C: \

    If you use Dism, the command will look like this:

    Dism / apply-image /imagefile:H:\Install.Swm /SWMFile:H:\install*.swm / index: 1 / ApplyDir: C: \

    4. After expanding the file install.wim, Windows bootloader 8.1 gave an error. What to do?

    It is better to restore the bootloader in the recovery environment. AOMEI PE Builder Live CD desktop has a shortcut to go to environment restore WIN 8.1 - Windows Recovery Environment.

    5. I have a 32-bit operating system and your image Live CD AOMEI PE Builder 64 bit, doesn't suit me.
